Optimizing YOLOv8 for Real-Time Object Detection in a Specific Screen Area
I’m working on real-time object detection using YOLOv8, but I only need to detect objects in approximately 40% of the screen area. Is it possible to limit the captureOut method to focus solely on that specific region of the screen? If this isn’t feasible, I’m considering an approach where the full-screen pixel buffer is captured and then cropped to the target area before running detection. However, I’m concerned about how this might affect real-time performance. I’d appreciate any insights on how to maintain real-time performance or suggestions for better alternatives. Thank you!

Crash when presenting Camera via Web View in iOS 18.2 Beta - WebCore::AVVideoCaptureSource::create
We are experiencing thousands of crashes in our application when attempting to present the camera through a Web View. The app crashes during this process, and the crash logs point to WebCore::AVVideoCaptureSource::create WebCore::RealtimeMediaSourceCenter::getUserMediaDevices. This issue has only been observed in iOS 18.2 beta versions (beta 1 - 22C5109p, beta 2 - 22C5125e, beta 3 - 22C5131e). In iOS versions below 18.2, the functionality works and we haven't identified any correlation with specific device models. The problem seems to stem from a WebCore framework introduced in these beta releases 18.2. We kindly request a review and fix for this issue in upcoming beta releases to restore functionality. Let us know if there are any workarounds or adjustments we can implement in the interim. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

I cannot acquire entitlement named com.apple.developer.avfoundation.video-data-output-prepares-cellular-radio-for-machine-readable-code-scanning.
AVCaptureVideoDataOutput.preparesCellularRadioForNetworkConnection requires com.apple.developer.avfoundation.video-data-output-prepares-cellular-radio-for-machine-readable-code-scanning. But I cannot acquire its entitlement. I can't find its entitlement on 'Certificates, Identifiers & Profiles'. Any solutions? Provisioning profile "iOS Team Provisioning Profile: ......" doesn't include the com.apple.developer.avfoundation.video-data-output-prepares-cellular-radio-for-machine-readable-code-scanning entitlement.

Green Line Appears in Thumbnails in Photos but Not in Actual Photo
Hello, I’ve encountered an issue where a green line appears only in the thumbnail view of an image in the iPhone photo gallery. The green line is not present in the actual image itself. Here are some additional details: • The issue occurs only when saving the image as a JPEG. When saved as PNG, the green line does not appear. • The green line also shows up when using the PHAsset method requestImage(for:targetSize:). Depending on the targetSize, the resulting image may contain the green line. • Interestingly, this issue does not appear on iPhone Xs Max running iOS 15.2.1. However, the green line does appear on iPhone 15 Pro Max running iOS 18.0.1 when viewing the same image. I have attached the problematic image for your reference. Following images are the screen captures that shows the issue occurring on my iPhone. iPhone 15 pro max (iOS 18.0.1) iPhone Xs Max (iOS 15.2.1 ) Could this be related to a display or gallery app issue on iOS? Any advice or solutions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Captured photos in wrong orientation
I'm building a custom camera screen that displays the camera image on a preview layer and then captures an image, using AVCaptureSession. When the picture is captured, I immediately load it into a UIImageView in order to display it to the user for approval. I've actually done this many times before, but this is the first time I've tried to do it in an app that supports interface rotation. If I hold the phone in Portrait mode and capture a picture, everything works as expected. When the user rotates the phone into Landscape orientation, I detect this and I replace the preview layer (AVCaptureVideoPreviewLayer) with a new one, specifying connection.videoRotationAngle in order to make the image appear in the right orientation. I'm a little surprised that this is necessary, and it's not a smooth transition, but that doesn't matter. What does matter is that when I capture the image, it is in the wrong orientation. I tried rotating it myself, but this doesn't seem to make any difference. What am I doing wrong?

Does PHAsset localIdentifier change after device transfer?
Hi, I’m working on a photo backup app. I track the PHAsset localIdentifier to determine which photos have been backed up and which haven’t. Recently, I’ve noticed that two users seem to have experienced the localIdentifier changes after transferring data to a new iPhone using Quick Start. Additionally, others on StackOverflow have mentioned that the localIdentifier sometimes changes after updating the iOS version. https://stackoverflow.com/questions/40094728/phobject-localidentifier-reliability I’d like to confirm the reliability of the localIdentifier after an iOS version upgrade or device transfer. Can I continue using these locally stored localIdentifiers? Or is there another recommended approach, such as using PHCloudIdentifier?

Custom Image Filters
I’m building a camera app using SwiftUI and UIKit (with UIViewControllerRepsrwsentable). My app already is able to capture photos, but I also want to implement the important feature - apply my custom image filter to the image for live preview in camera and when this image is saving to the photo library (like in the default Apple camera app with Photographic styles). My image filter must be pretty advanced because I’m a photographer and I trying to achieve the same colours as I have with my custom image preset in Lightroom. I want to control the image parameters such as basic (exposure, contrast, shadows, etc.), tone curves for each channel (Red, Green, Blue channels separately), HSL (for Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Aqua, Purple and Magenta), apply colour grading and more. Currently I’m straggling with implementation of this. I tried to create a custom image filter using Metal (it works with saturation) but I’m not sure if it is the best approach. I need help and recommendations of how developers implement this complex thing in their apps (what technologies should I use and etc.)

Does CMIO support "hide" build-in camera
Hi guys, Can I use CMIO to achieve the following feature on macOS when a USB device (Camera/Mic/Speaker) is connected: When a third-party video conferencing app is not in a meeting, ensure the app defaults to using the USB device (Camera/Mic/Speaker). When a third-party conferencing app is in a meeting, ensure the app automatically switches to the USB device (Camera/Mic/Speaker).

Why Does AVCaptureSessionInterruptionReasonVideoDeviceNotAvailableWithMultipleForegroundApps Occur on iPhone?
Hi everyone, We're encountering an unexpected issue with our iPhone-only camera app: 👉 TimeMark - Photo Proof https://apps.apple.com/us/app/timemark-photo-proof/id6446071834 Problem Description: Our app uses a full-screen camera view via AVCaptureSession. In some cases reported by users, the camera fails immediately upon app launch, and we receive this interruption reason: AVCaptureSessionInterruptionReasonVideoDeviceNotAvailableWithMultipleForegroundApps According to the Apple documentation https://developer.apple.com/documentation/avfoundation/avcapturesession/interruptionreason/videodevicenotavailablewithmultipleforegroundapps?language=objc , this interruption typically occurs when the app is running in a multi-app layout such as Slide Over, Split View, or Picture in Picture — all of which are iPad-only features. However, this issue is being reported on iPhones, and our app does not support iPad at all. Also noted in the documentation: "Given your present AVCaptureSession configuration, the session may only be run if your app occupies the full screen." Additional Context: The issue occurs immediately on app launch, before the user can interact with the camera. We don’t enable multitaskingCameraAccessEnabled. We are 100% sure this is happening on iPhone, not iPad. It’s hard to reproduce; users report it happening sporadically. Locally, we tried playing Picture-in-Picture videos (e.g., Safari/YouTube) before launching our app, but we could not reproduce the issue. Questions: Why is this interruption reason occurring on iPhone, which doesn’t officially support Slide Over or Split View? Could this be caused by some system-level multitasking or resource contention (e.g., Picture in Picture from FaceTime or Safari)? Would enabling multitaskingCameraAccessEnabled help prevent this issue on iPhone, even though it's designed for iPad? Enabling multitaskingCameraAccessEnabled seems to require enabling UIBackgroundModes → voip. Would adding this background mode cause any App Store review risk or rejection if our app doesn't actually use VoIP functionality? Any help, insight, or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

How to reliably detect user-modified photos?
I'm developing a photo backup app. To detect newly added or edited photos since the app launched, I keep a local dictionary in the format [localIdentifier: modification_date]. However, PHAsset.modificationDate is not reliable. It often changes unexpectedly, possibly due to system operations like iCloud metadata updates. Is there a more reliable way to detect whether a photo has been modified by user since the last app launch? I'm thinking about using content hash instead, but I'm not sure how heavy this operation is in terms of performance.

PHPhotoLibrary.shared().performChanges raised error 3303
I want to modify the photo's exif information, which means putting the original image in through CGImageDestinationAddImageFromSource, and then adding the modified exif information to a place called properties. Here is the complete process: static func setImageMetadata(asset: PHAsset, exif: [String: Any]) { let options = PHContentEditingInputRequestOptions() options.canHandleAdjustmentData = { (adjustmentData) -> Bool in return true } asset.requestContentEditingInput(with: options, completionHandler: { input, map in guard let inputNN = input else { return } guard let url = inputNN.fullSizeImageURL else { return } let output = PHContentEditingOutput(contentEditingInput: inputNN) let adjustmentData = PHAdjustmentData(formatIdentifier: AppInfo.appBundleId(), formatVersion: AppInfo.appVersion(), data: Data()) output.adjustmentData = adjustmentData let outputURL = output.renderedContentURL guard let source = CGImageSourceCreateWithURL(url as CFURL, nil) else { return } guard let dest = CGImageDestinationCreateWithURL(outputURL as CFURL, UTType.jpeg.identifier as CFString, 1, nil) else { return } CGImageDestinationAddImageFromSource(dest, source, 0, exif as CFDictionary) let d = CGImageDestinationFinalize(dest) // d is true, and I checked the content of outputURL, image has been write correctly, it could be convert to UIImage and image is ok. PHPhotoLibrary.shared().performChanges { let changeReq = PHAssetChangeRequest(for: asset) changeReq.contentEditingOutput = output } completionHandler: { succ, err in if !succ { print(err) // 3303 here, always! } } }) }

How to get the actual distance of the depth map image subject from the true depth camera
I was able to obtain the depth map image using AVCapturePhotoOutput from the delegate method func photoOutput(_ output: AVCapturePhotoOutput, didFinishProcessingPhoto photo: AVCapturePhoto, error: (any Error)?) I convert the depth map to kCVPixelFormatType_DepthFloat32 format and get the pixel values of the depth map using the below code func convertDepthData(depthMap: CVPixelBuffer) -> [[Float32]] { let width = CVPixelBufferGetWidth(depthMap) let height = CVPixelBufferGetHeight(depthMap) var convertedDepthMap: [[Float32]] = Array( repeating: Array(repeating: 0, count: width), count: height ) CVPixelBufferLockBaseAddress(depthMap, CVPixelBufferLockFlags(rawValue: 2)) let floatBuffer = unsafeBitCast( CVPixelBufferGetBaseAddress(depthMap), to: UnsafeMutablePointer<Float32>.self ) for row in 0 ..< height { for col in 0 ..< width { if floatBuffer[width * row + col].isFinite{ convertedDepthMap[row][col] = floatBuffer[width * row + col] } } } CVPixelBufferUnlockBaseAddress(depthMap, CVPixelBufferLockFlags(rawValue: 2)) return convertedDepthMap } Is this the right way of accessing the depth float values from a depth map. And what will be the unit for it. Because some times the depth values are in range of 0.7 when I keep the device close to the subject around 15 to 30 cm.

kCGImageSourceDecodeToHDR and CGImageSourceCopyPropertiesAtIndex
Hi, I'm using Core Graphics to load a .DNG photo shot by a Leica Q3 camera. The photo is shot in portrait, however the embedded preview is rotated 90 degrees to landscape. I load the photo like this: let options = [kCGImageSourceDecodeRequest: kCGImageSourceDecodeToHDR] as CFDictionary let source = CGImageSourceCreateWithData(data as CFData, nil) let cgimage = CGImageSourceCreateImageAtIndex(source, 0, options) let properties = CGImageSourceCopyPropertiesAtIndex(source, 0, nil) as? [CFString : Any] When doing this I can see that the orientation property is 1 indicating that the orientation is 'Up', which it isn't. If I don't specify the kCGImageSourceDecodeToHDR option (eseentially setting options to nil) - the orientation property is 8 (rotated 90 degrees). What puzzles me is that a chang to the CGImageSourceCreateImageAtIndex call can have an influence on that latter call to CGImageSourceCopyPropertiesAtIndex ? I would expect these to work independently? Cheers Thomas

Camera not detect dataMatrix code
Hello, I have a problem reading a 2D data matrix type code with a camera. In the application, I use AVFoundation to operate the camera and work with 2D codes, and in the vast majority there is no problem with loading. Nothing special. I originally thought it might be a problem in my code, but I got the same result when I tried with the Camera app integrated in IOS. It can be seen that only the LiveText API for text recognition worked. But I am attaching the code with which the camera has a problem, even though the code looks perfectly fine at first glance. A classic handheld 2D code reader will read the code just fine. Can someone please explain to me why the camera, which normally reads these codes at the speed of light, sometimes has a problem with the codes? Thank you [Personal Information Edited by Moderator]

How to Capture 48MP Photos with Ultra-Wide Camera During AR Session on iPhone 16 Pro?
Hello Developers, I am working on an app where I need to capture 48MP high-resolution photos using the ultra-wide camera of the iPhone 16 Pro while an AR session is running. The goal is to take these photos without interrupting or impacting the AR session, which uses the main wide-angle camera. Despite extensive testing and various approaches, we have been unable to achieve the desired functionality. What We Have Tried So Far 1. Using AVCaptureMultiCamSession: • We attempted to leverage AVCaptureMultiCamSession to simultaneously use the wide-angle camera for ARKit and the ultra-wide camera for photo capture. • However, this approach resulted in resource conflicts, with errors such as Cannot Record (OSStatus error -16409) and dropped frames. Additionally, the ultra-wide camera feed would frequently freeze or stop. 2. Dedicated AVCaptureSession for the Ultra-Wide Camera: • We separated the ultra-wide camera into its own AVCaptureSession while letting ARKit exclusively use the wide-angle camera. • This setup showed initial promise, but the ultra-wide camera feed would still stop running after a very short time (under one second). • Debugging logs indicated potential system-level interruptions, possibly due to resource prioritization by iOS. 3. Notification-Based Monitoring: • We implemented monitoring for session interruptions (AVCaptureSession.wasInterruptedNotification), but this provided limited insights into the exact cause of the session stopping. • We suspect iOS is de-prioritizing the ultra-wide camera session due to resource management policies or conflicts with ARKit. 4. Adjusting Camera Configurations: • We attempted to simplify both ARKit and AVCaptureSession configurations by reducing features like depth data and by using lower session presets for video capture. However, the core issue persisted. The Core Problem • The ultra-wide camera session frequently stops or freezes when used alongside ARKit. • Capturing high-resolution 48MP photos during the AR session is critical to the functionality of our app. Question Has anyone successfully implemented a similar setup? Specifically: • Capturing 48MP photos with the ultra-wide camera while ARKit is actively using the main camera. • Avoiding conflicts between ARKit and AVCaptureSession for the ultra-wide camera. Any insights, suggestions, or alternative approaches would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your help! 😊

Any information about background replacement in the system video effects?
In the docs it looks like something allows you to set a background replacement image in the Control Center controls (like on a Mac). However, I can't find any documentation on it, beyond this reference in the Apple docs. https://developer.apple.com/documentation/avfoundation/avcapturedevice/isbackgroundreplacementactive?language=objc Does anyone have any advice to enable backgrounds in the camera system wide?
