Questions about FTP crop up from time-to-time here on DevForums. In most cases I write a general “don’t use FTP” response, but I don’t have time to go into all the details. I’ve created this post as a place to collect all of those details, so I can reference them in other threads. IMPORTANT Apple’s official position on FTP is: All our FTP APIs have been deprecated, and you should avoid using deprecated APIs. Apple has been slowly removing FTP support from the user-facing parts of our system. The most recent example of this is that we removed the ftp command-line tool in macOS 10.13. You should avoid the FTP protocol and look to adopt more modern alternatives. The rest of this post is an informational explanation of the overall FTP picture. This post is locked so I can keep it focused. If you have questions or comments, please do create a new thread in the App & System Services > Networking subtopic and I’ll respond there. Don’t Use FTP FTP is a very old and very crufty protocol. Certain things that see

I'm trying to install iOS 13 on my iPhone X and iPadOS 13 on my 2nd Gen iPad Pro but for both devices I always end with the error message, that the update is not available on the server if I try to update with the *.ipsw file through iTunes. Is there anything I miss?
iOS 13 Can't Install Because theres no Install Profile Button, all other betas have install profile options except for iPadOS 13 and iOS13, is it bugged or have they forgot about adding that to iOS and iPadOS
It’s just a problem
This is a shame and it’s also happening with iPadOS
Trying to restore a dev iPad to iPad_Fall_2018_13.0_17A5492t_Restore.ipsw on a 2018 iPad Pro 12.9, and I keep getting This iPad could not be restored because the firmware is not compatibleI've tried re-downloading the ispw, no go. Anyone else seeing this?
So I'm trying to get iPadOS 13 working on an Ipad Air 2. After updating to Catalina I did initially see it on the finder side. But when I clicked on it, it just hangs. So I rebooted. I can see it and access it in Apple configurator 2, but don't see it on my finder window anymore. So I figured I'd try to restore it via configurator. Well option-restore doesn't seem to work there. So I just dragged the bundle file ontop of my ipad image and got and error, iOS cannot be restored on Ipad, failed to unzip the restore bundel [come.apple.MobileDevice.MobileRestore -oxFB5 (4021).Anyone else expereincing this?
I too am having problems installing iPadOS Beta on my 2019 Ipad pro. I have updated my Macbook to 10.15 but I dont even see my iPad Pro in the finder at all. Any suggestions?

This is on a 2017 iMac 21.5 inch with Retina 4K. I have not reported this yet. I tried an install of Catalina Beta 1 over the top of Mojave 10.14 beta 2. After a successful install overall, the Mail app will not launch. Anyone else run into this? In addition, with iTunes broken up and iOS/iPadOS now in Finder, my iPhone and iPad are listed in Finder but the data is not loading into the Finder window. Had to use another mac to install onto developer iPhone and iPad.Others having either of these problems?Tnx in advanceBill
Hello,In the keynote, I saw the Files app being able to see external flash drive connected via the Lightning port. Is this only available for the iPadOS or also iOS as well? Will it also available in Document Picker?Thank you
From release notes:Following an update to iOS & iPadOS 13, users with large photo libraries might need to wait for an extended period while their device displays the Apple logo with a progress bar. (51147659)I've seen this on a test iPhone SE device, as well as on the Apple TV. Both would stay with the progress bar untouched, but connecting to the console would show PhotoAnalysysd and related processes running. As both devices are test devices (iPhone SE I've even restored as a new device, just in case, and the Apple TV, I did a reset (home+desktop button for 5 seconds) and let it boot and care about the photos later. However I'm gonna wait until this is solved, as my main library has 100K photos and almost 2TB of icloud occupied, so I know already that anything that touches photos will be at least a whole week burning the device, so I'm clearly not gonna be waiting a whole week for the progress bar to finish.

To install iOS 13 on an iPhoine or iPadOS 13 on an iPad, open a Finder window while the device is connected. You will find it in the sidebar and clicking on it will bring up a similar screen like there used to be in iTunes. Now option-click the Update button to select the ipsw file ...

I have my iPad Pro (11-inch) on iPadOS 13 connected to my MacbookPro 15 running Catalina via the provided USB-C to USB-C cable but when trying to access Sidecar I get the following error:You can’t open the “Sidecar” preferences pane because it is not available to you at this time.To see this preferences pane, you may need to connect a device to your computer.Has anyone got this working yet?
