MacOS 12.0.1 Monterey Bluetooth issues

Hi, I am an application developer for Mac. Our application uses bluetooth to connect to our hardware devices.

Since the upgrade to MacOS 12.0.1 Monterey Bluetooth is broken customer wide. Hence pairing works but our driver cannot connect (code worked for MacOS 10.7 - 11.3). The internet reports a lot of Bluetooth issues related to Broadcom BT on Monterey and the Bluetooth Framework has changed significantly by Apple.

  1. Where can I find detailed information about Apple's Bluetooth changes ?

  2. Should I just wait until Apple fixes this from their side ?

Any other guidance is appreciated.

Thank you?

  • Here same problem "No name or address" in the console log.

The Bluetooth Core on Monterey is buggy.

  • Hi!

I don't have a solution but want to report the same problem here. Maybe this helps to get more attention. We also use bluetooth to connect to our hardware. Worked until 11.6.

  • same problem, waitting for fix it.

Our production application has also been unable to create Bluetooth socket connections since the last update. We have validated this issue with two independent API for Bluetooth connection -- all of which are fully functional up to and including Big Sur.

Customers having upgraded to Monterey are all unable to connect their devices to our desktop application. This is critical and we are waiting for a fix.

  • Apple devs any chance you can fix this ASAP

  • ASAP (or sooner) would be very helpful.

  • Is Apple ever going to fix this bluetooth problem? since my mac updated I can no longer connect to my iphone which means i cant use airplay to transfer files from iphone to mac, strangely it works the other way round, so annoying, when i try to connect via bluetooh on my phone to my macbook i just get an error message saying my macbook isnt supported,

Posting my solution: After trying nearly all the suggestions previously posted, with no sustained results, I unplugged my monitor which connects to the majority of my bluetooth devices. I initiate the startup/boot up of my MacBook Pro (running Monterey) with nothing else connected except the power cable. Then, after startup is complete, I plug back in my monitor. Now, all my devices work fine and consistently. This has been the only reliable and least cumbersome fix.

As a follow-up on my other answer:

As of Monterey 12.3 Beta 4, RFCOMM handles for our device are being properly returned and connectivity is restored within our application.

As an additional note, calls to IOBluetooth.recentDevices which we were leveraging are not currently working (at least for us). We have reverted to using IOBluetooth.pairedDevices() instead, which provides similar information.

I am using a Bluetooth USB dongle, and it stopped working since I upgraded to MacOS 12.2 Monterey. In my case I found a solution that works: Every-time I boot the system I have type on terminal:

sudo pkill bluetoothd

type your Mac password

Then turn on bluetooth, and it works again.

It is March 2022 and just update to Monterey version 12.2.1, MAC still has the same problem on mouse response and bluetooth connection. Does Apple really tried to solve this?

Same problem here. Just updated to Monterey. My bluetooth headphones show up, I can click Connect, then they instantaneously disconnect. They still work fine on all my other devices, just not my *#$&# laptop I use for work meetings, testimony at hearings, etc. Hope they come up with a fix soon.

After 5 hours/2 days working with Apple tech through phone, we did everything mentioned above and even more at least twice, still NOTHING WORKS. We had to send iMAC back to a local store and see if they have a better solution and voila~ after spend $267 for changing the wireless card, bluetooth/airdrop/mouse finally all function well. It seems that the Monterey system has bugs with the wireless/bluetooth card. It seems when updating OS, it's time for the Mac store to get profit from old customers.

Same problem; older MacOs had bluetooth working poorly; Monterey really screwed things over big time.

After calling apple support for the 4th time I finally got an answer: Pairing Iphones to a mac via bluetooth is no longer expected behaviour, the only thing we can do is submit feedback via this page: https://www.apple.com/feedback/

MacBook Air M1 chip experiencing the same Bluetooth connection issues described above since the 12.2.1 update bluetooth mouse pointer works but logitech mouse is NOT discovered in Bluetooth Devices and scroll wheel does not work now serious cost to productivity

The Macbook Air 2017 - Monterey 12.3 - still has problems with connecting to bluetooth. the first connection is normal, each next writes connected but the sound is flowing from the Macbook or the soundbar rejects the connection. Monterey broke bluetooth. Everything works fine on Big Sur. Apple fix it at last !!!

The Bluetooh issue has not been fixed.

The phone's "Nokia PC Suite" Bluetooh service is not present on the macOS 12.3, this is a serious bug. The "Nokia PC Suite" Bluetooh service is the service which I need.

Same here.

The issue has been spotted on i) an M1, 2020 running 12.3 with an iPhone XR and ii) on a MBP 15 2019 runnint 12.3 with an iPhone 6S.

12.3.1 release notes doesn't refer anything about a potential bluetooth fix :(
