GPS Coordinates with Photos
I am currently developing an application that requires access to GPS coordinates from photos on iOS. However, with the recent update to iOS 18 beta, I have encountered a challenge: I can only view photos within maps, and I am unable to access the GPS coordinates directly. Could you please provide guidance on how to enable or retrieve GPS coordinates from photos in the current iOS 18 beta version? Any insights or resources you could share would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your assistance!

Swift fails to fetch Photo Albums Synced using Windows iTunes from External Drive
See Configuration Details at the end of this message. Despite numerous attempts, I have been unable to determine the correct syntax to fetch photo albums from my iPad Pro 13.0 using Xcode and Swift. All the photo album were synced to the iPad Pro 13-inch using the latest versions of Apple iTunes for Windows from an external Western Digital G-Drive hard drive (No iCloud). All synced albums appear under "From My Mac" on the iPad. I only want to access each album's photo and video count. See sample code snippet below. I have tried multiple subtype options and album types without success. Zero albums are always returned despite having around 3900 albums in the iPad Pro 13.0 photo library. Authorization to the photo library does not appear to be the problem. PHPhotoLibrary.requestAuthorization { status in if status == .authorized { let result = PHAssetCollection.fetchAssetCollections(with: .album, subtype: .any, options: nil) if result.count == 0 { print("No albums found.") return } } } Any help or suggestions would greatly be appreciated. ApplePhoto Configuration Details iPad Pro 13-inch (M4) (iPad16,6) iPadOS = 17.7 iCloud = Turned Off iPad Pro Photo Library Albums = 3900 iPad Pro Photo Library Photos = 118000 iPad Pro Photo Library Videos = 4800 MacOS = Sonoma 14.6.1 XCode Version = 16.0 Swift Version = 5.0 (Xcode Default) Microsoft Windows 10 Pro Version = 22H2 Apple iTunes for Windows = 12.13.4.4

PHPickerResult take loong time to load large video
On some devices, loadFileRepresentation(forTypeIdentifier: completionHandler) take a loong time(about two minute) to callback result for some large video(about 200 MB, take by device camera). environment: Model: iPhone 12 Model Number: MGGM3CH/A iOS Version: 18.3.2 PHPickerResult.NSItemProvider.loadFileRepresentation() // import PhotosUI func picker(_ picker: PHPickerViewController, didFinishPicking results: [PHPickerResult]) { picker.dismiss(animated: true, completion: nil) guard let provider = results.last?.itemProvider else { return } guard provider.hasItemConformingToTypeIdentifier(UTType.movie.identifier) else { return } Task { provider.loadFileRepresentation(forTypeIdentifier: UTType.movie.identifier) { url, error in guard let url = url else { return } // Do some stuff... } } } ps: I also try some other function, eg: provide.loadItem(forTypeIdentifier:), but not work too.

Error capturing ProRAW using iPhone 17 Pro Telephoto with photoQualityPrioritization set to .Quality
Hey, I'm having a very strange issue on my iPhone 17 Pro. I'm trying to capture a 12MP ProRAW image using the Telephoto Lens with the photoQualityPrioritization set to .Quality. Unfortunately I receive this error when trying to capture the image: Error Domain=AVFoundationErrorDomain Code=-11800 "The operation could not be completed" UserInfo={NSUnderlyingError=0x134f7a1f0 {Error Domain=NSOSStatusErrorDomain Code=-16802 "(null)"}, NSLocalizedFailureReason=An unknown error occurred (-16802), AVErrorRecordingFailureDomainKey=4, NSLocalizedDescription=The operation could not be completed} The photo captures correctly at 7.9x zoom, it's only a problem when the zoom goes over 8x. Also, it's only this particular configuration of settings which causes the issue. I'm able to capture an image if I either: Set quality to ".balanced" Set max dimensions to 48MP Capture a JPEG image instead of a ProRAW image Use the TripleCamera fusion lens Any help would be greatly appreciated. LivePhoto not applying on iOS 17+ as live wallpaper
Hi fellow iOS developers! 👋 I've written a Swift code that converts a video (from a URL) into a Live Photo after downloading it. The conversion process seems fine, but when I try to set the generated Live Photo as a wallpaper on iOS 17+, it shows the message 'Motion not Available.' Has anyone else experienced this issue or know why this might be happening? Could it be related to changes in iOS 17 Live Photo handling or the generated file structure? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! 🙏

Unable to Capture 24MP Photos
Hello, I'm wondering how to capture 24MP photos. I'm currently testing on an iPhone 16 Pro Max. By default, the device's activeFormat supports 24MP (photo dimensions: {4032x3024, 5712x4284}). For the photoOutput, I'm setting the maxPhotoDimensions to videoDevice.activeFormat.supportedMaxPhotoDimensions.lastObject, and setting MaxPhotoQualityPrioritization to quality. When capturing, I'm applying the same maxPhotoDimensions and photoQualityPrioritization settings from the photoOutput directly to the AVCapturePhotoSettings. What could be the issue? // Objective-C // setup [self.photoOutput setMaxPhotoQualityPrioritization:AVCapturePhotoQualityPrioritizationQuality]; CMVideoDimensions maxPhotoDimensions = [(NSValue *)videoDevice.activeFormat.supportedMaxPhotoDimensions.lastObject CMVideoDimensionsValue]; [self.photoOutput setMaxPhotoDimensions:maxPhotoDimensions]; // capturing AVCapturePhotoSettings *photoSettings = [AVCapturePhotoSettings photoSettings]; photoSettings.maxPhotoDimensions = self.photoOutput.maxPhotoDimensions; photoSettings.photoQualityPrioritization = self.photoOutput.maxPhotoQualityPrioritization; [self.photoOutput capturePhotoWithSettings:photoSettings delegate:photoCaptureDelegate]; ...

App randomly be terminated due to Capture Application Requirements Unmet
Hi. I encounter some random crashes of my camera app. After some investigations, I found that it's terminated by the system and the crash log did be generated but the information is not quite useful, and here is the log found via the Console app. Termination & Crash log "Camera not actively used; AVCaptureEventInteraction not installed": Received termination request from [osservice<com.apple.SpringBoard>:10931] on <RBSProcessPredicate <RBSProcessInstancePredicate| [app<com.juniperphoton.PhotonCam]>> with context <RBSTerminateContext| explanation:Capture Application Requirements Unmet: "Camera not actively used; AVCaptureEventInteraction not installed" reportType:CrashLog maxTerminationResistance:Interactive> The crash log exported from the device will have some common information like: It's a EXC_CRASH (SIGKILL) type with no termination reason. The app is in the foreground and users are interacting with some functions like viewing photos or editing photos in the app. When users exit the camera view, like entering the gallery or settings, the camera session will be stopped. Both TestFlight and Debug build will have the same issue. No 3rd party crash reporter is installed(I deliberately disable it in Debug build and TestFlight build) It has adopted the LockedCameraCapture, but current it's running on the main app target(if not, my app will have a button of unlock, so I can confirm about this). Also, when it comes to the memory consumption, there is no JetsamEvent around the crash time. Device and app information Additionally, some information about the tech stack and the current state of my device and my app: iPhone 16 Pro with iOS 18.2 Beta 3. The app is a camera based app(it's PhotonCam and you can find it on the App Store), its main functionality is the camera feature using AVFoundation + Core Image + Metal to deliver camera functionality. It has adopted the Camera Control, AVCaptureEventInteraction and LockedCameraCapture features. If I remember it right, it occurs in iOS 18.1 Release build, but currently I have no such device to confirm. But in iOS 17.x the issue has never happened. Regarding to this termination, on top of my head is the "watchdog" mechanism that will terminate the process that is running on the LockedCameraCapture feature. However I can make sure that currently the app is running as the main target on the home screen. Has anybody encountered this kind of issue and has found some solutions? Thanks in advance.

photos-navigation://album scheme
In my app SexyPeri (https://apps.apple.com/fr/app/id6738291985), I create an album with some pics Album is called SexyPeri Now, I wish to redirect the user from my app SexyPeri DIRECTLY to the album SexyPeri There is no doc about your scheme photos-navigation, or I didn't see it. Some guys retro-engineered it, but I couldn't make this work. photos-navigation://album?name=SexyPeri doesn't work. So my question is: how can I redirect to the album directly ?

LockedCameraCaptureManager
Task { for await update in LockedCameraCaptureManager.shared.sessionContentUpdates { switch update { case .initial(let urls): print("frank: init \(urls)") await MainActor.run { let label = UILabel(frame: CGRect(x: 100, y: 100, width: 100, height: 30)) label.text = "frank test" label.textColor = .black UIViewController.getTop().view.addSubview(label) } case .added(let url): print("frank: add \(url)") case .removed(let url): print("frank: removed \(url)") default: break } } } why 'case .initial(let urls)': never never be executed? Can some one provide a sample code?

Improving the transition between ultra wide and wide angle lens
I'm building an app which uses the camera and want to take advantage of the ability of the builtInTripleCamera and builtInDualWideCamera to automatically switch between the ultra wide and wide angle lens to focus on close up shots. It's working fine - except that the transition between the two lenses is a bit jumpy. I looked at what the native Camera app does and it seems to apply a small amount of blurring when the transition happens to help "mask" the jumpiness. How can I replicate this, or is there another way to improve the UX of switching between one lens and another automatically?

LockedCameraCaptureManager sessionContentUpdates sometimes is not called
Within my app, I have: for try await update in LockedCameraCaptureManager.shared.sessionContentUpdates { It seems that the first time my app opens from LockedCameraCapture (after enabling camera permissions etc...) this update is never called and the user will not see their capture (.added or .initial) If I then try to take another picture/video through my LockedCameraCapture control, it takes the video, opens the app as before, but this time sessionContentUpdates is called twice, once for the first video and once for the second video! After that it doesn't seem to occur again and all works perfectly! My device is: iPhone 16 Pro Max, iOS 18.2 developer beta Has anyone experienced this?

Attaching depth map manually
Hi, I have a problem when I want to attach my grayscale depth map image into the real image. The produced depth map doesn't have the cameraCalibration value which should responsible to align the depth data to the image. How do I align the depth map? I saw an article about it but it is not really detailed so I might be missing some process. I tried to: convert my depth map into pixel buffer create image destination ref and add the image there. add the auxData (depth map dict) This is the output: There is some black space there and my RGB image colour changes

Memory leak when performing DetectHumanBodyPose3DRequest request
Hi, I'm developing an application for macos and ios that has to run DetectHumanBodyPose3DRequest model in real time for retrieving the 3d skeleton from the camera. I'm experiencing a memory leak every time the model is used (when i comment that line, the memory stays constant). After a minute it uses about 1GB of ram running with mac catalyst. I attached a minimal project that has this problem Code Camera View import SwiftUI import Combine import Vision struct CameraView: View { @StateObject private var viewModel = CameraViewModel() var body: some View { HStack { ZStack { GeometryReader { geometry in if let image = viewModel.currentFrame { Image(decorative: image, scale: 1) .resizable() .scaledToFill() .frame(width: geometry.size.width, height: geometry.size.height) .clipped() } else { ProgressView() } } } } } } class CameraViewModel: ObservableObject { @Published var currentFrame: CGImage? @Published var frameRate: Double = 0 @Published var currentVisionBodyPose: HumanBodyPose3DObservation? // Store current body pose @Published var currentImageSize: CGSize? // Store current image size private var cameraManager: CameraManager? private var humanBodyPose = HumanBodyPose3DDetector() private var lastClassificationTime = Date() private var frameCount = 0 private var lastFrameTime = Date() private let classificationThrottleInterval: TimeInterval = 1.0 private var lastPoseSendTime: Date = .distantPast init() { cameraManager = CameraManager() startPreview() startClassification() } private func startPreview() { Task { guard let previewStream = cameraManager?.previewStream else { return } for await frame in previewStream { let size = CGSize(width: frame.width, height: frame.height) Task { @MainActor in self.currentFrame = frame self.currentImageSize = size self.updateFrameRate() } } } } private func startClassification() { Task { guard let classificationStream = cameraManager?.classificationStream else { return } for await pixelBuffer in classificationStream { self.classifyFrame(pixelBuffer: pixelBuffer) } } } private func classifyFrame(pixelBuffer: CVPixelBuffer) { humanBodyPose.runHumanBodyPose3DRequestOnImage(pixelBuffer: pixelBuffer) { [weak self] observation in guard let self = self else { return } DispatchQueue.main.async { if let observation = observation { self.currentVisionBodyPose = observation print(observation) } else { self.currentVisionBodyPose = nil } } } } private func updateFrameRate() { frameCount += 1 let now = Date() let elapsed = now.timeIntervalSince(lastFrameTime) if elapsed >= 1.0 { frameRate = Double(frameCount) / elapsed frameCount = 0 lastFrameTime = now } } } HumanBodyPose3DDetector import Foundation import Vision class HumanBodyPose3DDetector: NSObject, ObservableObject { @Published var humanObservation: HumanBodyPose3DObservation? = nil private let queue = DispatchQueue(label: "humanbodypose.queue") private let request = DetectHumanBodyPose3DRequest() private struct SendablePixelBuffer: @unchecked Sendable { let buffer: CVPixelBuffer } public func runHumanBodyPose3DRequestOnImage(pixelBuffer: CVPixelBuffer, completion: @escaping (HumanBodyPose3DObservation?) -> Void) { let sendableBuffer = SendablePixelBuffer(buffer: pixelBuffer) queue.async { [weak self] in Task { [weak self, sendableBuffer] in do { guard let self = self else { return } let result = try await self.request.perform(on: sendableBuffer.buffer) //process result DispatchQueue.main.async { if result.isEmpty { completion(nil) } else { completion(result[0]) } } } catch { DispatchQueue.main.async { completion(nil) } } } } } }

Photo permission dialog not shown when iOS app runs on Mac
According to the docs: The first time your app performs an operation that requires [photo library] authorization, the system automatically and asynchronously prompts the user for it. (https://developer.apple.com/documentation/photokit/delivering-an-enhanced-privacy-experience-in-your-photos-app) I.e. it's not necessary for the app to call PHPhotoLibrary.requestAuthorization. This does seem to be what happens when my app runs on an iPhone or iPad; the prompt is shown. But when it runs on a Mac in "designed for iPad" mode, the permission dialog is not presented. Instead the code continues to see status == .notDetermined. That's today, on macOS 15.3. It may have worked in the past. Is anyone else seeing issues with this? Should I call requestAuthorization explicitly? (Would that actually work?)

Unkown photos were added to my iPhone Photo App.
There are several unknown pictures were added to my iPhone Photos. I'm developing a iOS app in swiftUI. And I'm sure that neither my developing app asked a permission to save photos to iOS device, nor these pictures are taken by myself, downloaded from the web, or synced from my iCloud. Why does this happen? Is my account or my iPhone attacked or hacked? btw, my device has turned the debug mode on, will this setting option would leads some vulnerability or some debug tools would add photos to my albums? The attached pictures are the unknown photos in my Photos App. I'v search this photo with google. And I found that many developers in stack overflow use this picture when they encounter troubles with image display or other manipulation. Where where are this photo come from? Why does it exist in my Photo albums?
