Do we need an MFi authentication chip to send video/commands to iPhone?
Hello, my company is developing a product that will send data to/from the phone over cable and Wi-Fi. I have three questions: Do we need an MFi authentication chip in our product if we plan to send video and commands to the iPhone/iPad over USB or Lightning cable? Likewise, do we need an MFI authentication chip for communication over Wi-Fi? (Informal research suggests that the answer is no to this one.) And, do we even still need MFI certification at all for Wi-Fi comms? (We are not using HomeKit.) Thank you!

Music Keeps cutting off
Everytime I put my AirPods in and connect them to my phone or my Mac or my iPad since the iOS 18.3 update on my devices they’ve been disconnecting without reason, pausing songs I’m in the middle of playing, and only partially reconnecting in one pod and it’s getting really frustrating

How to write RGB & Depth Frames Without Losing Synchronization
I’m currently working on a project where I capture both depth frames and RGB frames using AVCaptureDataOutputSynchronizer. Depth frames are stored as raw binary data and RGB frames are saved with AVAssetWriter. The issue I’m facing is that AVAssetWriter enforces a fixed framerate, meaning it adds or discards frames to maintain that rate (as I understand it). This causes a desynchronization between the depth and RGB frames, which is a problem because I need each depth frame to be exactly matched with the corresponding RGB frame as they were captured. How can I ensure that the RGB frames are saved without AVAssetWriter modifying the frame count?

SystemMusicPlayer.item nil when state = .playing
I've been working with MusicKit without enrolling for a developer account and I haven't run into any issues until I noticed nil on the SysteyMusicPlayer item for some songs and I don't understand why. Are some songs blocked from the framework? Or is it somehow a limitation to not having registered MusicKit to the bundle ID? I am planning on using MusicKit properly in prod and this is just a test app for a package I'm working on. These are the nil songs which I got from the Discovery Station: https://music.apple.com/ca/album/okay/950816298?i=950816304 https://music.apple.com/ca/album/youre-so-cool/1670485433?i=1670485446

Build a vision capture system for apple vision pro
Hi, I am a newbie here. We have been given a task to build a robotic vision system to capture an immersive video in a hazed environment, which will later be played on Apple Vision Pro. I am thinking of starting with 2 or 4 basic CMOS camera sensors, such as IMX378, AR0144, or VD66GY, and designing an FPGA-based circuit to synchronously capture and store raw frame-by-frame data. Some frame initial processing such as demosaicing and filtering can also be done by the FPGA. Then, I would use software for post-processing to convert the data into a compatible video format for Apple Vision Pro. Will this idea work? I can handle the raw data capture, but I’m unsure if this approach is feasible and what post-processing software I should use. Thanks a lot for your suggestions! Charlie

Rear View Camera Installed – Now CarPlay Audio Stops After 15 Seconds via Bluetooth
I recently installed a rear-view camera in my car, and ever since, I've been experiencing a frustrating issue with my CarPlay. After about 15 seconds of playing audio via Bluetooth, the sound stops coming out of the speakers, even though the song continues to run in the background. For context, my stereo system is an aftermarket unit that I installed to enable CarPlay functionality. Everything worked perfectly before adding the rear-view camera. Unfortunately, my unit does not have a port for a wired connection, so I can't test the audio using a cable. Has anyone experienced a similar issue? Could the camera installation be interfering with the Bluetooth or audio system somehow? Any advice or troubleshooting tips would be greatly appreciated!

AVQueuePlayer/AVPlayer rate property is not being changed everytime I assign a new value to it.
I have used AVQueuePlayer in my music app to play sequence of audios from a remote server, this how I have defined things my player in my ViewModel Variables private var cancellables = Set() private let audioSession = AVAudioSession.sharedInstance() private var avQueuePlayer: AVQueuePlayer? @Published var playbackSpeed: Float = 1.0 before starting playback, I am making sure that audio session is set properly, the code snippet used for that is do { try audioSession.setCategory(.playback, mode: .default, options: []) try audioSession.setActive(true, options: []) } catch { return } and this is the function I am using to update playback speed func updatePlaybackSpeed(_ newSpeed: Float){ if newSpeed > 0.0, newSpeed <= 2.0{ playbackSpeed = newSpeed avQueuePlayer?.rate = newSpeed print("requested speed is (newSpeed) and actual speed is (String(describing: avQueuePlayer?.rate))") } } sometimes whatever speed is set, player seems to play at the same speed as it was set, e.g. Once I got "requested speed is 1.5 and actual speed is 1.5", and player also seemed to play at the speed of 1.5 but another time I got "requested speed is 2.0 and actual speed is 2.0", but player still seemed to play at the speed of 1.0 to observe changes in rate, I used this **private func observeRateChanges() { guard let avQueuePlayer = self.avQueuePlayer else { return } NotificationCenter.default.publisher(for: AVQueuePlayer.rateDidChangeNotification, object: avQueuePlayer) .compactMap { $0.userInfo?[AVPlayer.rateDidChangeReasonKey] as? AVPlayer.RateDidChangeReason } .sink { reason in switch reason { case .appBackgrounded: print("The app transitioned to the background.") case .audioSessionInterrupted: print("The system interrupts the app’s audio session.") case .setRateCalled: print("The app set the player’s rate.") case .setRateFailed: print("An attempt to change the player’s rate failed.") default: break } } .store(in: &cancellables) }** when rate was set properly, I got this "The app set the player’s rate." from the above function, but when it wasn't, I got this "An attempt to change the player’s rate failed.," now I am not able to understand why rate is not being set, and if it gave "requested speed is 2.0 and actual speed is 2.0" from updatePlaybackSpeed function, why does the player seems to play with the speed of 1.0?

How to set volume with MusicKit Web?
I've got a web app built with MusicKit that displays a list of songs. I have player controls for play, pause, skip next, skip, previous, toggle shuffle and set repeat mode. All of these work by using music. The play button, when nothing is playing and nothing is in the queue, will enqueue all the tracks and start playing with the below, for example: await music.setQueue({ songs, startPlaying: true }); I've implemented a progress slider based on feedback from the "playbackProgressDidChange" listener. Now, how in the world can I set the volume? This seems like it should be simple, but I am at a complete loss here. The docs say: "The volume of audio playback, which is set directly on the HTMLMediaElement as the HTMLMediaElement.volume property. This value ranges between 0, which would be muting the audio, and 1, which would be the loudest possible." Given that all my controls work off the music instance, I don't understand how I can do that. In this video from WWDC 2022, music web components are touched on briefly. These are also documented very sparsely. The volume docs are here. For the life of me, I can't even get the volume web component to display in the UI. It appears that MusicKit Web is hobbled compared to the native implementation, but surely adjusting volume shouldn't be that hard right? I'd appreciate any insight on how to do this, including how to get web components to work (in a Next JS app). Thanks.

MusicKit Web Playback States
In MusicKit Web the playback states are provided as numbers. For example the playbackStateDidChange event listener will return: {oldState: 2, state: 3, item:...} When the state changes from playing (2) to paused (3). Those are pretty easy to guess, but I'm having a hard time with some of the others: completed, ended, loading, none, paused, playing, seeking, stalled, stopped, waiting. I cannot find a mapping of states to numbers documented anywhere. I got the above states from an enum in a d.ts file that is often incorrect/incomplete. Can someone help out pointing to the docs or provide a mapping? Thanks.

Best way to cache a inifinite scroll view of videos
Hi, Im working on a app with a infinite scrollable video similar to Tiktok or instagram reels. I initially thought it would be a good idea to cache videos in the file system but after reading this post it seems like it is not recommended to cache videos on the file system: https://forums.developer.apple.com/forums/thread/649810#:~:text=If%20the%20videos%20can%20be%20reasonably%20cached%20in%20RAM%20then%20we%20would%20recommend%20that.%20Regularly%20caching%20video%20to%20disk%20contributes%20to%20NAND%20wear The reason I am hesitant to cache videos to memory is because this will add up pretty quickly and increase memory pressure for my app. After seeing the amount of documents and data storage that instagram stores, its obvious they are caching videos on the file system. So I was wondering what is the updated best practice for caching for these kind of apps?

Max HLS segment file size?
The media services used for HLS streaming in an AVPlayer seem to crash if your segments are too large. Anything over 20Mbps seems to cause a crash. I have tried adjusting the segment length to 1 second also and it didn't help. I am remuxing Dolby Vision and HDR video and want to avoid transcoding and losing any metadata. However the segments are too large. Is there a workaround for this? Otherwise it seems AVFoundation is not suited to high bitrate HLS and I should be using MPV or similar.

Playing music with Musickit.js in Chrome and Firefox
I'm unable to play music using Musickit.js in the Chrome or Firefox browsers. Even using the apple guide here: https://js-cdn.music.apple.com/musickit/v1/index.html - I've added my Music Developer Token and song/album url, but it only works in Safari and not in Chrome or Firefox. I'm unsure if this is a global issue, or if there is something I need to do to enable playback in other browsers, but as it stands it's not working for me. Thanks for any help in advance!

AVURLAsset with AVURLAssetHTTPCookiesKey - Cookies not persisting on retry requests
I'm experiencing an unexpected behavior with AVURLAsset and cookies. When setting cookies through AVURLAssetHTTPCookiesKey option, they seem to be sent only on the initial request but not on retry attempts. Here's my current implementation: let cookieProperties: [HTTPCookiePropertyKey: Any] = [ .name: "sessionCookie", .value: "testValue", .domain: url.host ?? "", .path: "/", .secure: true ] if let cookie = HTTPCookie(properties: cookieProperties) { let asset = AVURLAsset(url: url, options: [ AVURLAssetHTTPCookiesKey: [cookie], ]) } According to the documentation, AVURLAssetHTTPCookiesKey should apply the cookies to all requests made by this asset. However, when the initial request fails and AVPlayer retries, the cookies are not included in subsequent requests. Only when I store the cookie with HTTPCookieStorage.shared.setCookie, then it persists. Questions: Is this the expected behavior? If not, what could be causing the cookies to not persist for retry attempts? Is using HTTPCookieStorage.shared the recommended approach instead? Environment: iOS 16+ Using AVPlayer with AVURLAsset Streaming HLS content Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

photos-navigation://album scheme
In my app SexyPeri (https://apps.apple.com/fr/app/id6738291985), I create an album with some pics Album is called SexyPeri Now, I wish to redirect the user from my app SexyPeri DIRECTLY to the album SexyPeri There is no doc about your scheme photos-navigation, or I didn't see it. Some guys retro-engineered it, but I couldn't make this work. photos-navigation://album?name=SexyPeri doesn't work. So my question is: how can I redirect to the album directly ?

Help for a plugin audio unit
Hello All, It seems that it's "very easy" (😬) to implement a little Swift code inside the prepared AU using Xcode 16.2 on Sequoia 15.1.1 and a Mac Studio M1 Ultra, but my issue is that I finally don't know... where. The documentation says that I've to find the AudioUnitViewController.swift file and then modify the render block : audioUnit.renderBlock = { (numFrames, ioData) in // Process audio here } in the Xcode project automatically generated, but I didn't find such a file... If somebody can help me in showing where is the file to be modified, I'll be very grateful ! Thank you very much. J

Increased delay when AUGraph's output device is system output
I'm using an AUGraph to mix audio from different sources for a real time streaming application. Whenever the audio device used as the graph's output device is also the Mac's default output device, the measured latency increases by about 35 milliseconds for wired devices. Any idea why this is? Is there a way around this besides nagging the user to not the use the system output in our app?

Garageband displaying error 100001 when loading up some AU plugins
I recently got some plugins from Universal Audio, and have licensed them properly through both UA and iLok manager. Whenever I try to load up the plugins (specifically from UA) in GarageBand, it first says that "NSCreateObjectFileImageFromMemory-p47UEwps” because the developper can not be verified. After clicking either 'show in finder' or 'okay', it opens the plugin in a form without its GUI and showing that it is not licensed (even though it is). It also displays error code 100001. I have tried only some basic stuff to troubleshoot like restarting the DAW/my computer and reinstalling/relicensing the softwares. I don't know if the macOS version has anything to do with it but for some reason I just can't get it to work.
