I have an app already in production that uses SwiftUI's lifecycle (paired with an AppDelegate). Due to some specific behaviour of the app, we decided to migrate the app to use UIKit's lifecycle, adding the corresponding SceneDelegate to the app, as well as modifying the Info.plist file accordingly to accommodate to these new changes.
Although everything seems to work when installing the app from zero, when installing it on top of another version, the screen goes black and the user cannot interact with the app at all unless they reinstall it completely. As I've read online, iOS is reusing the window configuration from the previous execution of the app. I know this because the AppDelegate's application(application:connectingSceneSession:options) is not being called when coming from a previous version of the app.
I would love to know what can I do to make this work because, as you may understand, we cannot ask our user base to reinstall the application.

In iOS 18, the tab bar has been moved to the top on iPad. How can I hide this tab bar? Using TabBarController.tabBar.isHidden = true isn't working.
I am writing to report an issue I encountered with iOS 18 beta that affects my application, which has been available on the App Store for over two years and currently has over 60,000 active users.
My application utilizes a UITabBarController to manage multiple tabs, where each tab hosts a UIViewController embedded within a UINavigationController. The application operates in two different states, where users may have either 5, 4, or 3 tabBarItems depending on their configuration.
The issue arises when fewer than 5 tabs are present. In these cases, I add child view controllers to the UITabBarController to ensure they are displayed above the tab bar, rather than below it. The relevant code snippet is as follows:

Prior to iOS 18, this implementation functioned as expected. However, with the release of iOS 18, adding a child view controller to the UITabBarController results in the child being incorrectly added as a UITabBarItem. This misbehavior leads to an application crash when the unintended tab is selected.
The crash trace is as follows:
"Inconsistency in UITabBar items and view controllers detected. No view controller matches the UITabBarItem '<UITabBarItem: 0x142d9c480> selected'."
I have attached screenshots from iOS 18 and previous versions to illustrate the issue, which compares the expected behavior in earlier iOS versions with the problematic behavior in iOS 18.

On testing my app with tvOS 18, I have noticed the Siri Remote back button no longer provides system-provided behavior when interacting with tab bar controller pages. Instead of moving focus back to the tab bar when pressed, the back button will close the app, as if the Home button was pressed. This occurs both on device and in the Simulator.
Create tvOS project with a tab bar controller.
Create pages/tabs which contain focusable items (ie. buttons)
Scroll down to any focusable item (ie. a button or UICollectionView cell)
Hit the Siri Remote back button. See expect behavior below:
Expected behavior: System-provided behavior should move focus back to the tab bar at the top of the screen.
Actual results: App is closed and user is taken back to the Home Screen.
Has anyone else noticed this behavior?
I have already searched for a lot of information about this issue. Many people have encountered it with UISplitViewController or on iPadOS, but I am experiencing this problem on iOS 18. It does occasionally occur on iOS 17, but it definitely happens on iOS 18. The error messages are as follow:

I am sure about the process on iOS 17, first I use UINavigationController.present(UINavigationController()) and then call keyWindow.rootViewController = UINavigationController(), it crashes. So I can dismiss the presentedViewController before assign keyWindow.rootViewController. However, on iOS 18, the app crash when launch.

I have an iOS app that is using SwiftUI but the gesture code is written using UIGestureRecognizer. When I run this app on visionOS using the "Designed for iPad" destination and try to use any of my gestures I see this warning in the console:
Trying to convert coordinates between views that are in different UIWindows, which isn't supported. Use convertPoint:fromCoordinateSpace: instead.
But I don't see any visible problems with the gestures.
I see this warning printed out after the gesture takes place but before any of our gesture methods get kicked off. So now I am wondering if this is something we need to deal with or some internal work that needs to happen in UIKit.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

I am using the simulator to launch my app and can see AppDelegate related logs but I am not seeing any SceneDelegate logs (I suppose because it is not being initialized nor called).
I have tried restarting the computer/Xcode, clean and rebuild the application but none of the things I tested work.
Is there any part of my code wrong? Any other idea here?
I’m seeing a crash in production for a small percentage of users, and have narrowed it down based on logging to happening as or very shortly after an alert is presented using SwiftUI.
This seems to be isolated to iOS 17.5.1, but since it’s a low-volume crash I can’t be sure there aren’t other affected versions. What can I understand from the crash report?

It looks like Xcode 16 has changed this behaviour so I'm not sure if this is a bug or not.
When a SwiftUI Button wraps a UIImageView and the button style is .plain the button doesn't work without setting isUserInteractionEnabled.

Hi,
I am trying out the new UITabBar stuff in iOS18, and I don't think it'll be a good fit for my app. Is there a way to revert to the old iPad UITabBar look and placement that we've been using before? I don't want to make such a big change like this just yet, but I would need to make other changes to the app as well and I don't want to use the new UITabBar just yet. Is there a way to achieve this?
Problem
Our app use UIPasteControl for people taps to place pasteboard contents in UITextView.
It worked fine at first, but recently received a lot of user feedback and the button suddenly disappeared

I have recently submitted a new app version to the Appstore with Xcode 15.0. Unfortunately, I have started to see the below crash in the Xcode organiser > Crashes section occurring for more number of times.

The exception trace is not leading to main() function but not pointing to any of the code line. I had used UIAlertController in the past versions to show the alerts but there is no code written in the current version code related to UIAlertController. Only from the latest version, this kind of crash started to surface.
In the latest release, We have added a third party SDK and while implementing the SDK, we had added the Location and Bluetooth Permissions in Info.plist file. But as we don't want to use/track the Location and Bluetooth details from the app, the SDK team has disabled the Location and Bluetooth settings to not reflect in the tracked data.
Is this behaviour creating any conflict with the UIAlertController and logging the crash? Because by default the OS tries to show the alert when the permissions exist in the plist file, but the alert will not come as the service is disabled on the SDK server settings. Is this creating any conflict and logging the crash.
Please extend your help.

Hello! I've been digging into this for a little bit now, and am hitting something of a wall. Our app is crashing occasionally, and googling the crash yields literally 0 results.
Tl;dr: Something related to adaptivePresentationStyle(for:traitCollection:) is resulting in our app crashing.
Context
In our app, we have a custom UIPresentationController that we use to present a small sheet of content overlaying other app content - similar to a UISheetPresentationController with a medium-ish size. So we have a custom UIViewController to present, and it conforms to the UIAdaptivePresentationControllerDelegate protocol. We also have custom present and dismiss animators.
The crash
However, we seem to be running into a really odd crash. I've attached a crash report as well, but here's what one sees in xcode on reproducing the crash:
The _computeToEndFrameForCurrentTransition block is nil inside the _transitionViewForCurrentTransition block, value of outerStrongSelf currently : <XxxYyyyyyZzz.PopupPresentationController: 0x12d017a40>. This most likely indicates that an adaptation is happening after a transtion cleared out _computeToEndFrameForCurrentTransition. Whenever we present one of these view controllers, things work just fine. When we try to present another one though, if someone is aggressively changing the phone orientation, the app crashes. This crash occurs somewhere in between dismissing the old VC and presenting the new one. It occurs before I ever hit any breakpoints in the "present" animator for the second view controller.
I've narrowed things down a bit, and by commenting out our implementation of adaptivePresentationStyle(for:traitCollection:), the crash can't be reproduced anymore. The downside there being that the app no longer functions how we want it to. Our definition of that function (which causes crashes) looks like this:

A bit more testing, and it seems like if that function returns the same thing consistently, nothing crashes. Are we not allowed to put conditional logic in this function?
In the crash, we can see that it occurs due to a failing assertion internal to UIPresentationController:

The question
This all leads us to wonder if we're doing something wrong, or if there could be a bug in one of the iOS APIs that we're consuming. Thus, posting here. Does anyone have any insight into how this could be occurring, or has seen this before and has ideas? Thanks!

We've seen this issue in debug and release builds from Xcode 14 and 15
We see the issue on users with iOS 15+, though it could be occurring on 14 in just incredibly low numbers

My App development language is only Arabic. I am using textField to Login User, whenever user long pressed, ToolTip showed up. Problem is with tool tip text it is flipped. My device language is English

I was trying to do a Button with title left aligned. With the old UIButton, I would have used the title-/contentEdgeInsets to achieve this, but with the new button these values are deprecated and do not work anymore. As far as I understood, with the new button only the spacing between the elements (sub-, title and image) is controllable. I also tried just setting the buttons width to the same width as the label, what would be possible in my case since it should be kind of a "hyperlink-button" which has no background or border. This works so far, but once the user interacts with the button, the title label gets multiline, which is on the one hand not wanted and on the other hand of course does not look left aligned anymore. (Besides the buttons height is fix in my case which leads to clipping of the title)
So here again in short: Is there any way to make the title of the new UIButton left aligned inside of the button?

Okay so I'm getting this log every time I present a UIAlertController:
Mac Catalyst: Presenting view controller <UIAlertController: 0x10f027000> from detached view controller <MyViewController: 0x10d104080> is not supported, and may result in incorrect safe area insets and a corrupt root presentation. Make sure <MyViewController: 0x10d104080> is in the view controller hierarchy before presenting from it. Will become a hard exception in a future release.
A few points:
MyViewController is not detached and the presentation shows just fine.
I specifically check for this before presenting the alert controller like so:

It spews out every time an error is fed back to my app and I present the alert controller (I can turn off the network connection and I show an alert controller with a "retry" button in it which will loop the error back so I can replay the error alert presentation over and over again) .
Every time the alert controller is presented, I get this spewing in the console. Please don't start throwing hard exceptions because the check is faulty.
I recently was thinking about which is the best format to use for my little icons in the app, and was considering the performance of PNG versus SVG . I know that PNG decoders are hardware accelerated and parallelized, and the rendering is as simple as placing the pixels on the screen.
On the other hand, SVG requires computation to determine the placement of pixels based on mathematical equations.
Considering this, my current assumption is that PNG is faster to render than SVG. However, if SVG is also hardware-accelerated, it could alter the situation, although this may not be the case.
On iOS17, UIDevice.current.batteryLevel is returning values rounded to 0.05, such as 1, 0.95, 0.9. Which used to be a 1% granularity in iOS16. Is this a bug or a new feature?
