We are experiencing an issue where MKMapView appears red on the app builded with Xcode 16 and executed on iOS 18 simulator.
Only the ground is affected and buildings or POIs stay normal color.
Xcode 16.1 beta 3 shows same result.
Is there any similar case?

Hi, I am using Location Push Service Extension in my app but as soon as my app gets an update Location Extension fails to launch. From the console I can see OS is terminating this process. What could be the reason ? When user launches the app after update the extension starts to work as expected.
Hi Apple Dev Team & Community,
We’ve encountered an issue with background location updates when using an XCFramework we’ve built from our main app.
Context:
We have a standalone app called TravelSafely that reliably performs background location updates and alerts, even during sleep mode.
From this app, we extracted some core functionality into an XCFramework, including location management, and provided it as an SDK to a client.
We created a demo app to test this SDK in isolation.
Problem:
In the demo app, we notice that location updates work fine in the foreground.
However, in the background or sleep mode, location updates sometimes stop completely.
When we bring the app to the foreground again, location resumes.
This does not happen in the original standalone app.
What We’ve Already Checked:
UIBackgroundModes includes location
Info.plist has the required permissions
Location is started correctly using startUpdatingLocation
We maintain strong references and use background tasks as needed
Question:
Why would an app using a binary XCFramework (with location logic) behave differently from the original app in terms of background execution?
Is there any known issue or recommendation when working with SDKs/XCFrameworks that need to manage background tasks and location updates?
Any insights or recommendations to maintain proper background behavior would be highly appreciated.
Thank you!

Hello everyone,
I’m experiencing an issue with App Clips Advanced Experiences and Apple Maps/Siri Suggestions. We have already contacted Apple Support before, but they are investigating the cause of this issue and it has not been resolved til date.
The App Clip is bundled with the main app and has been already available on the App Store for several months. The business running the app has several physical shops and wants to offer the App Clip to show up in Apple Maps and Siri Suggestions at each location.
The App Clip is correctly exposed in the AASA file, and it's also validated correctly by the AASA APIs available at https://app-site-association.cdn-apple.com/a/v1.

{
"appID": "TEAMID.bundleid",
"paths": []
}
]
},
"appclips": {
"apps": [
"TEAMID.bundleid.Clip"
]
}
}
(with TEAMID and bundleid being the team and bundle identifiers of the app)
The App Clip is displayed correctly when loading the website and when scanning a QR code or App Clip code, but doesn't appear in the Maps app or in Siri suggestions.
We have set up the App Clip Advanced Experiences on the App Store Connect page of the app, and each URL has been linked to a physical shop. All URLs are in the "Received" state, so they should appear correctly on Maps.
Unfortunately, I don't see any "Order" button in Apple Maps at any location card. We tried with both iOS 17 and 16. According to feedbacks from people in the shops, they don't see the app suggested in the Siri Suggestions.
I have just submitted a Custom Action Link on Apple Business Connect for one of the shops, but without success: the App Clip doesn't appear.
Any idea why is this happening?

Maps and Location
We’re building a new subway/bus app at the MTA. Our system includes roughly 300 underground stations, around 150 elevated stations (i.e., above street level), and about 5 at-grade stations (i.e., at street level). We serve roughly 5 million riders a day.
We’re diving deep into Core Location on iOS and have found that the altitude values returned from two fields we’re testing aren’t accurate enough for our use case:
CLLocation.altitude
CMAbsoluteAltitudeData.altitude
We need to reliably distinguish whether a user is:
At street level
On an elevated platform (see attached picture)
On any platform in an underground station — most have a single platform level, but some, like 59 St (see attached), have multiple platforms at different elevations.
These levels typically differ by at least 15 feet, which should in theory be well within the precision range of a properly calibrated barometric pressure sensor.
However, the absolute altitude values we’re seeing from these APIs are often inaccurate and inconsistent — not only compared to ground truth, but also across devices. For example, holding two phones side-by-side frequently yields altitude readings that differ by more than 15 feet. That level of variation makes the data unreliable for our needs.
Please see the below photos for more context.

Is it an CLMonitor API bug? Should I file a bug report?
We have a that relies on accurate GPS location but we’ve noticed that every now and then the location ‘jumps’ a few hundred meters to a different location but reports horizonal accuracy less than 10m.
we think the device is picking up a rough location from a local WiFi rather than internal gps sensors.
can we
a) disable WiFi location Updates?
b) identify WiFi location Updates?
thank You

I'm trying to use the new Apple Maps Server API. As far as I can tell I have set up the token correctly, but my web request is still returning 401 unauthorized.
The following is my code in TypeScript:
import * as jwt from 'jsonwebtoken';
const JWT_SECRET = "-----BEGIN PRIVATE KEY-----\n" +
"MIGTAgEAMBMGBy..............................\n" +
"..............................................................\n" +
"..............................................................\n" +
"-----END PRIVATE KEY-----";
const header = {
alg: "ES256",
kid: "26DYPK65ZK",
typ: "jwt"
}
// Example payload data
const payload = {
"iss": "7F3PBYWYMS",
"iat": Date.now(),
"exp": Date.now() + (1000 * 30 * 60),
};
export async function getRestaurants() {
let token = jwt.sign(payload, JWT_SECRET, { algorithm: 'ES256', header: header});
const response = await fetch('https://maps-api.apple.com/v1/token (https://maps-api.apple.com/v1/token)', {
method: 'GET',
headers: {
'Authorization': "Bearer " + token
},
});
console.log(response);
}
What am I doing incorrectly here?
Hello,
I upgraded my Apple Developer account from free to paid (Individual), but I cannot enable “Background Modes” (specifically “Location updates”) for any of my App IDs—including both old App IDs created while on the free account and brand new App IDs created after upgrading.
When I go to Apple Developer Portal > Identifiers > [select App ID] > Edit, the option for “Background Modes” is missing from the list of capabilities.
This is preventing me from enabling required entitlements for background location in Xcode, and all provisioning profiles fail with errors such as:
Provisioning profile "iOS Team Provisioning Profile: [my bundle id]" doesn't include the com.apple.developer.location.always and com.apple.developer.location.background entitlements.
Steps I’ve Taken:
Upgraded to a paid Apple Developer Program (verified in my account).
Created new App IDs after upgrading—Background Modes is still missing.
Created new Xcode projects with new App IDs and bundle identifiers—same result.
Refreshed provisioning profiles, cleaned Xcode, logged out/in—no change.
Contacted Apple Support; advised to file a Code-Level Support request, but the issue is with the portal/App ID capabilities, not my code.
My Question:
Has anyone experienced this issue where Background Modes capability is missing for all App IDs, even after upgrading to a paid account?
Is there any workaround, or does this require intervention from Apple Developer Support to “unlock” the missing capabilities for my developer account?
Any insight or advice would be appreciated!
Thank you.
Hello,
I'm currently implementing code to track routes and determine if users have arrived at their destination using CLServiceSession, CLBackgroundActivitySession, and CLLocationUpdate.liveUpdates.
I want to obtain location data across all app states: foreground, background, and terminated.
I have two questions:
Background Location Indicator Issue: I'm using CLBackgroundActivitySession to get location updates in the background. Normally, the background location indicator (blue bar) doesn't appear at the top left of the screen for my app. However, when another app (e.g., LiveUpdatesSample) activates CLBackgroundActivitySession, my app's background location indicator suddenly becomes visible. Can you explain why this happens? or Can I Control showsBackgroundLocationIndicator in CLBackgroundActivitySession
Session Management: Is there a way to terminate all currently active CLBackgroundActivitySessions? I understand that when CLBackgroundActivitySession is activated and the app is terminated and then relaunched, a new CLBackgroundActivitySession needs to be created. In this case, are the previously created and running CLBackgroundActivitySessions automatically released when the app is relaunched?
Loading tile overlays is slow even when the raster data is locally available on the device running iOS 18.2 and built with Xcode 16.2.
In this video (https://3dtopo.com/superSlowTileLoading.mov) it takes 38 seconds to load tiles readily available on the device. Then, the whole screen flashes when tiles that are already drawn are redrawn, making for a very poor user experience. 38 seconds to load a dozen or so small images (512x512) stored locally on the device is simply unacceptable. I can't release a product like this that I've spent the last 1.5 years building and many years developing the maps themselves. This severe issue is new since I committed to basing my app on MapKit.
Note that this issue does not occur with Apple's base map tiles.
I created a Feedback Assitant case, FB16110803, for this issue.
For the video, I disabled loading any tiles from the network and disabled loading any other data, such as polylines. Essentially all I am doing is loading the tiles stored on the device and returning them, such as:
public func loadTile(at path: MKTileOverlayPath, result: @escaping (Data?, Error?) -> Void) {
fetchData(forKey: key,
failure: {error in result(nil, error)},
success: {data in result(data, nil)})
}
open func fetchData(forKey key: String, failure fail: ((Error?) -> ())? = nil, success succeed: @escaping (Data) -> ()) {
let path = self.path(forKey: key)
do {
let data = try Data(
contentsOf: URL(fileURLWithPath: path),
options: Data.ReadingOptions())
succeed(data)
self.updateDiskAccessDate(atPath: path)
} catch {
if let block = fail {
block(error)
}
}
}
Hey All,
Seem to be in a loop and unable to proceed.
New app specific for iOS being built on xCode. Project is configured only to deploy and use iOS, not macOS or anything else.
Trying to create a new App iD always see it default to all platforms which means "Background Modes" is not visible or available.
Automatic signing etc in xcode can't seem to get around this and just continues to flag I'm missing the entitlement for locations.background.
Not sure what I am missing as I cannot manually configure the ID for iOS only and xcode is also generating new ID's with the same platform structure and constraints.
Any thoughts or insights here please?
My app is currently using CLGeocoder to get a CLPlacemark, then using placemark.postalAddress with CNPostalAddressFormatter to get an attributed string for the full address, I then enumerate its attributes to pull out specific elements like just the street or state or zip etc.
This is deprecated in iOS 26 with MKReverseGeocodingRequest being the intended replacement. This API returns an MKMapItem which doesn’t provide a CNPostalAddress - you can get a full address as a String but not structured address data that I’m seeing. Am I missing some way to get the postal address? Or is it a non-goal to provide that anymore? Thanks!
The easiest way to explain this is to show it. On any device, open Maps, set it to Driving (which will show traffic). Go to Baltimore Maryland. In the water just south east of the city there is a bridge (Francis Scott Key Bridge). . On Apple Maps the road is colored dark red.
At certain zoom levels, there is a "button" (red circle with a white - in it). When you click on that "button", it says 1 Advisory (Road Closed).
How do I show this "button" on my map. My map shows the dark red color, but no "button" appears.
The only "advisory" that I've been able to find is when you create a route. Of course you can't create a route over a road that fell into the water.
struct ContentView: View {

)
)
var body: some View {
Map(position: $position)
.mapStyle(.standard(pointsOfInterest: .all, showsTraffic: true))
.cornerRadius(25)
}
}
Is this a WCDWAD, or is there a way to show the "button"

Hello,
I'm encountering an issue with UNLocationNotificationTrigger in my iOS app.
I've scheduled three local notifications using UNLocationNotificationTrigger, each tied to a distinct geographic region. These regions are significantly distant from one another and should not trigger simultaneously under normal movement conditions.
However, during testing, the user received all three notifications within one second, despite being physically located near only one of the regions. This behavior is unexpected and defeats the purpose of using location-based triggers.
Could you please clarify why this might be happening? Is there a known issue with UNLocationTrigger, or is there a possibility that iOS preemptively triggers all scheduled location notifications?
Any guidance or recommended practices to avoid this behavior would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!
We developed an IMDF indoor map for a client (paid work) which we submitted to Apple a few months ago. Our client is wondering how many months the approval process will take. Also, we would like to get paid for the work. Any estimate from that team would be appreciated. Thank you
I have an application that uses geolocation to track the user’s location and trigger actions when the app is in either the foreground or background. Currently, it seems that region entry is not triggered unless an app like Maps (which actively uses location services) is opened. The location permissions are correctly set to “Always” with precise location enabled.
We are using geofencing to setup region and trigger actions when entering or leaving.
Is there something I’m missing in the configuration that could be preventing region monitoring from triggering properly when the app is in use or in background?
I have an App which needs to monitor one CircularGeographicCondition for a feature. No other location services are required in the moment.
Im facing the problem that entry events aren't forwarded to my implementation in every case on real devices. In the simulator everything is working like a charm. Exit events seemed to be working quite reliable on real devices too.
Even after resuming the app from background in case of a missed entry event does not trigger the entry event. Only restarting (which recreates the monitor) triggers an entry event.
The radius of my geofence is 200 meters
What I have done:
a. Holding a service session
session = CLServiceSession(authorization: .always)
b. Creating a Task which holds the CLMonitor, adds the conditions and loops through the events.
My questions are:
Is this expected behavior?
If yes, how can I force the CLMonitor to recalculate the state of the condition?
Thank you so much for your help
In the last few months we have seen a lot of the following errors in which it fails to retrieve location information. This seems to happen across multiple browsers and feels related to apple/mac OS more than the browsers.
Error: "CoreLocationProvider: CoreLocation framework reported a kCLErrorLocationUnknown failure."
Any suggestions or an ETA on when this can be fixed? I have seen other threads/posts on this but wanted a new one to highlight the issue is prevalent.
