After iPadOS 26 beta and iOS 26 beta, AVCaptureMetadataOutput no longer detects Face on some devices.
I'm creating an app that uses AVCaptureSession to pass camera input to AVCaptureMetadataOutput type set [metaout setMetadataObjectTypes:@[AVMetadataObjectTypeFace]] and scan Face. After updating to OS 26 Beta2 and iOS 26 Beta2, an issue has occurred where the delegate method of AVCaptureMetadataOutputObjectsDelegate is not called on some devices. The following devices are experiencing this issue. iPad (9th Gen) iPad air (4th Gen) iPhone 15 This issue has not occur on any other devices I have. I tried running the AVFoundation sample code on the Apple Developer site on the above device. The same problem still occurs. https://developer.apple.com/documentation/avfoundation/capture_setup/avcambarcode_detecting_barcodes_and_faces Are any additional settings required after OS 26 beta and iOS 26 beta? Or is there some problem on the OS side?

Camera become black for few propduction users during photo capture
PLATFORM AND VERSION :iOS 18.5 I wanted to bring to your attention a critical issue some of our production users are experiencing with the CoinOut app. Specifically, users are encountering a problem when attempting to capture photos of receipts using the app's customized camera feature. The camera, which utilizes AVCaptureVideoPreviewLayer and AVCaptureDevice, occasionally fails to load the preview, resulting in a black screen instead of the expected camera view. This camera blackout issue is significantly impacting the user experience as it prevents them from snapping photos of their receipts, which is a core functionality of the CoinOut app. Any help/suggestion to this issue would be greatly appreciated. STEPS TO REPRODUCE Open the app and click on camera icon. It will display camera to capture photo. Camera shows black for few production user's. class ViewController: UIViewController { @IBOutlet private weak var captureButton: UIButton! private var fillLayer: CAShapeLayer! private var previewLayer : AVCaptureVideoPreviewLayer! private var output: AVCapturePhotoOutput! private var device: AVCaptureDevice! private var session : AVCaptureSession! private var highResolutionEnabled: Bool = false private let sessionQueue = DispatchQueue(label: "session queue") override func viewDidLoad() { super.viewDidLoad() setupCamera() customiseUI() } @IBAction func startCamera(sender: UIButton) { didTapTakePhoto() } private func setupCamera() { let session = AVCaptureSession() session.sessionPreset = AVCaptureSession.Preset.high previewLayer = AVCaptureVideoPreviewLayer(session: session) output = AVCapturePhotoOutput() device = AVCaptureDevice.default(.builtInWideAngleCamera, for: AVMediaType.video, position: .back) if let device = self.device{ do{ let input = try AVCaptureDeviceInput(device: device) if session.canAddInput(input){ session.addInput(input)} else { print("\(#fileID):\(#function):\(#line) : Session Input addition failed") } if session.canAddOutput(output){ output.isHighResolutionCaptureEnabled = self.highResolutionEnabled session.addOutput(output) } else { print("\(#fileID):\(#function):\(#line) : Session Input high resolution failed") } previewLayer.videoGravity = .resizeAspectFill previewLayer.session = session sessionQueue.async { session.startRunning() } self.session = session self.session.accessibilityElementIsFocused() try device.lockForConfiguration() if device.isWhiteBalanceModeSupported(AVCaptureDevice.WhiteBalanceMode.autoWhiteBalance) { device.whiteBalanceMode = .autoWhiteBalance } else { print("\(#fileID):\(#function):\(#line) : isWhiteBalanceModeSupported no supported") } if device.isWhiteBalanceModeSupported(AVCaptureDevice.WhiteBalanceMode.continuousAutoWhiteBalance) { device.whiteBalanceMode = .continuousAutoWhiteBalance } else { print("\(#fileID):\(#function):\(#line) : isWhiteBalanceModeSupported no supported") } if device.isFocusModeSupported(.continuousAutoFocus) { device.focusMode = .continuousAutoFocus} else if device.isFocusModeSupported(.autoFocus) { device.focusMode = .autoFocus } device.unlockForConfiguration() } catch { print("\(#fileID):\(#function):\(#line) : \(error.localizedDescription)") } } else { print("\(#fileID):\(#function):\(#line) : Device found as nil") } } private func customiseUI() { let path = UIBezierPath(roundedRect: CGRect(x: 0, y: 0, width: self.view.bounds.width, height: self.view.bounds.height), cornerRadius: 0) let rectangleWidth = view.frame.width - (view.frame.width * 0.16) let x = (view.frame.width - rectangleWidth) / 2 let rectangleHeight = view.frame.height - (view.frame.height * 0.16) let y = (view.frame.height - rectangleHeight) / 2 let roundRect = UIBezierPath(roundedRect: CGRect(x: x, y: y, width: rectangleWidth, height: rectangleHeight), byRoundingCorners:.allCorners, cornerRadii: CGSize(width: 0, height: 0)) roundRect.move(to: CGPoint(x: self.view.center.x , y: self.view.center.y)) path.append(roundRect) path.usesEvenOddFillRule = true fillLayer = CAShapeLayer() fillLayer.path = path.cgPath fillLayer.fillRule = .evenOdd fillLayer.opacity = 0.4 previewLayer.addSublayer(fillLayer) previewLayer.frame = view.bounds view.layer.addSublayer(previewLayer) view.bringSubviewToFront(captureButton) } private func didTapTakePhoto() { let settings = self.getSettings(camera: self.device) if device.isAdjustingFocus { do { try device.lockForConfiguration() device.focusMode = .continuousAutoFocus device.unlockForConfiguration() device.addObserver(self, forKeyPath: "adjustingFocus", options: [.new], context: nil) } catch { print(error) } } else { output.capturePhoto(with: settings, delegate: self) } } func getSettings(camera: AVCaptureDevice) -> AVCapturePhotoSettings { var settings = AVCapturePhotoSettings() if let rawFormat = output.availableRawPhotoPixelFormatTypes.first { settings = AVCapturePhotoSettings(rawPixelFormatType: OSType(rawFormat)) } settings.isHighResolutionPhotoEnabled = self.highResolutionEnabled let previewPixelType = settings.availablePreviewPhotoPixelFormatTypes.first! let previewFormat = [kCVPixelBufferPixelFormatTypeKey as String: previewPixelType] as [String : Any] settings.previewPhotoFormat = previewFormat return settings } } extension ViewController: AVCapturePhotoCaptureDelegate { func photoOutput(_ output: AVCapturePhotoOutput, willCapturePhotoFor resolvedSettings: AVCaptureResolvedPhotoSettings) { AudioServicesDisposeSystemSoundID(1108) } func photoOutput(_ output: AVCapturePhotoOutput, didFinishProcessingPhoto photo: AVCapturePhoto, error: Error?) { guard let data = photo.fileDataRepresentation() else { return } let image = UIImage(data: data)! showImage(cropped: image) } func showImage(cropped: UIImage) { let vc = self.storyboard?.instantiateViewController(withIdentifier: "ImagePreviewViewController") as? MPMusicPlayerController.applicationMusicPlayer.currentPlaybackRate no longer working in iOS 26.0 (Tahoe)?
I'm wondering if someone happened issues with currentPlaybackRate in released version of iOS 26.0? There is no issue happened in case of iOS 18.5. When I changed currentPlaybackRate on iOS 26.0, it seems to unexpectedly change currentPlaybackRate to be 0 or 1.0 forcibly no matter DRM or non-DRM contents. And also, playing music will be abnormal behavior and unstable with noise if currentPlaybackRate is not 1.0. And changes stop state and play state frequently.

IPadOS 17 external camera exposure
I'm developing iPad app that will be mostly dedicated for certain external camera for visually impaired people. The linux UVC api (e.g. using guvcview) allows to enable automatic exposure for the camera. IOs api "isExposureModeSupported" unfortunately returns false for any of the exposure modes. Is it a bug? Or perhaps AVFoundation doesn't support UVC exposure yet?

Is there a way to get lossless music playback on macOS?
I noticed that while playing back the same tracks via MusicKit on different OSes I get different results regarding the audio files being streamed. Playing back a lossless file with 24Bit 48kHz and watching the Console for RemotePlayerService I get: on iPadOS: Lossless; groupID: audio-alac-stereo-48000-24; bitDepth: 24-bit; sampleRate: 48khz; codec: alac; channels: 2; layout: Stereo; on macOS: Creating AudioQueue with format:'paac', framesPerPacket:1024, sampleRate:44100 While the iPad looks perfect, the Mac does not. Is there a way to fix this issue on macOS. BTW: I switched the Audio-Midi Settings before, after and while the macOS App was lunched. I also switched to different output devices. I wasn't able to change the bad audio-output on the mac. I tested this under Sequoia 15.5 and Tahoe beta 1, Xcode 16.4 and 26 beta 1. The AudioVariants of the Album/Tracks are .dolbyAtmos, .lossless, .lossyStereo Apple Music displays Lossless 24 Bit/48 kHz ALAC when clicking on the playercontroll icon on macOS I hope there are only some missing or misconfigured properties to get macOS up to par. Thanks :-)

Question about PT Framework channel tone behaviour
I've been wondering if there is a way to modify or even disable tones for indicating channel states. The behaviour regarding tones seems like a black box with little documentation. During migration to Apple's PT Framework we've noticed that there are few scenarios where a tone is played which doesn't match certain certifications. For example; moving from a channel to another produces a tone which would fail a test case. I understand the reasoning fully, as it marks that the channel is ready to transmit or receive, but this doesn't mirror the behaviour of TETRA which would be wanted in this case. I'm also wondering if there would be any way to directly communicate feedback regarding PT Framework?

How to delete FPS Certificate from Apple developer account
Hello All, I am looking for assistance with our FairPlay Streaming (FPS) certificates. We are in the process of migrating to a new video streaming vendor and need to create a new FPS certificate using SDK 4. However, we have reached the limit of allowed FPS certificates in our account and cannot create a new one. Issue Details: • We currently have two FPS certificates active in our developer account. • One of these was created using SDK 5, but our new vendor (Mux) requires an FPS certificate based on SDK 4. • Since Apple does not allow deleting FPS certificates from the developer portal, we are unable to create a new SDK 4 certificate. • We kindly request Apple to revoke one of our existing FPS certificates to allow us to generate a new SDK 4 certificate. Request: We would greatly appreciate it if you could assist us on how to delete one of our existing FPS certificates so that we can proceed with creating a new SDK 4 certificate for our vendor integration. Thank you for your support.

Under certain conditions, using CallKit does not automatically enable the microphone.
Issue: Under certain conditions, using CallKit does not automatically enable the microphone. Steps to Reproduce: 1.Start an outgoing call, then the user manually mutes the audio. 2.Receive a native incoming call, end the current call, then answer the new incoming call.(This order is important.) 3.End the incoming call. 4.Start another outgoing call and observe the microphone; do not manually mute or unmute. Actual Behavior: The audio icon indicates that the audio is unmuted, but the microphone remains off, and the small yellow dot in the top status bar (which represents the microphone) does not appear. Expected Behavior: The microphone should be on, consistent with the audio icon display, and the small yellow dot should appear in the top status bar. Device: iPhone 16 pro & iPhone 15 pro, iOS 18.0+ Can it be reproduced using speakerbox(CallKit Demo)? YES

Attaching color properties to CVPixelBufferRef
I believe this should work: CFMutableDictionaryRef attrs = CFDictionaryCreateMutable(kCFAllocatorDefault, 0, &kCFTypeDictionaryKeyCallBacks, &kCFTypeDictionaryValueCallBacks); CFDictionaryAddValue(attrs, kCVImageBufferColorPrimariesKey, kCVImageBufferColorPrimaries_ITU_R_709_2); CFDictionaryAddValue(attrs, kCVImageBufferTransferFunctionKey, kCVImageBufferTransferFunction_ITU_R_709_2); CFDictionaryAddValue(attrs, kCVImageBufferYCbCrMatrixKey, kCVImageBufferYCbCrMatrix_ITU_R_709_2); CVPixelBufferRef pixelBuffer = NULL; CVPixelBufferCreate(kCFAllocatorDefault, width, height, kCVPixelFormatType_32ARGB, attrs, &pixelBuffer); assert(CFDictionaryGetCount(CVBufferGetAttachments(pixelBuffer, kCVAttachmentMode_ShouldPropagate)) > 0); But that last assert fails, so it appears the color info does not get attached. kCVImageBufferColorPrimariesKey and the others are not one of the keys listed under BufferAttributeKeys, but I think they're supposed to be allowed because they're listed by CMVideoFormatDescriptionGetExtensionKeysCommonWithImageBuffers(). I'm hoping that putting the color matrix info in there will control how AVAssetWriter converts the RGB to YCbCr.

AVCaptureMetadataOutput .face detection not working on iOS 26 Beta with high sessionPreset
In iOS 26 (Developer Beta), the AVCaptureMetadataOutputObjectsDelegate no longer receives callbacks when metadataOutput.metadataObjectTypes = [.face] is set. On earlier iOS versions the issue does not occur. Interestingly, face detection works if I set the sessionPreset to .medium, but not with .high — except on the iPhone 16 Pro Max, where it works regardless.

TypeScript definitions for MusicKit JS
I take that MusicKit JS is built with TypeScript, based on the attributions in the script: https://js-cdn.music.apple.com/musickit/v3/musickit.js In the script it points to https://js-cdn.music.apple.com/musickit/v1/acknowledgements.txt – I assume this should be the v3 URL for the v3 version? It returns the same content nonetheless. This contains attributions for TypeScript. Currently there's a third-party effort with DefinitelyTyped, which publishes the NPM package @types/musickit-js. The latest supported version available is v1. However, there is no version compatible with v3. This makes it hard to use MusicKit JS v3 in a TypeScript project. Please publish the types, ideally on the CDN along with the musickit.js file. Also consider publishing an officially Apple supported DefinitelyTyped package, or help to maintain the existing @types/musickit-js to make consuming this even easier.

Apple Music API Library Playlist Images
Hi, I'm sending an API request to: https://api.music.apple.com/v1/me/library/playlists?limit=$limit&offset=$offset To list all of the users library playlists, however the resulting objects do not contain the playlist artwork in the JSON. I've tried adding the extend and include attributes as well but to no avail. A partial example of the response: {"id": PLAYLIST_ID, "type": "library-playlists", "href": "/v1/me/library/playlists/PLAYLIST_ID", "attributes": {"lastModifiedDate": "2024-09-18T20:18:24Z", "canEdit": true, "name": "Afro Party Anthems", "isPublic": false, "description": {"standard": "Definitive African party starters"}, "hasCatalog": false, "dateAdded": "2022-03-10T18:30:56Z", "playParams": {"id": PLAYLIST_ID, "kind": "playlist", "isLibrary": true}}, "relationships": {"catalog": {"href": "/v1/me/library/playlists/PLAYLIST_ID/catalog", "data": []}}} Is there a way to get the artwork URL without sending a request for each playlist? And if not can this be fixed?

ScreenCaptureKit and mixed Retina/non-Retina configuration
The two ScreenCaptureKit WWDC22 sessions show how to capture with the new framework but the retina factor is hardcoded to 2 in SCStreamConfiguration. When using on a non-retina display, the screencapture is floating on the upper-left corner of the image buffer. There does not seem to be a simple way to retrieve the retina factor from the SCShareableContent data (when configuring the capture). When processing the streaming output, the SCStreamFrameInfo attachment is supposed to have a scaleFactor property but .scaleFactor does not return a value. I have found out that the attachement dictionary contains SCStreamUpdateFrameDisplayResolution. This entry gives me the retina factor but it is not an official SCStreamFrameInfo key. I list the keys to access it. What is the proper way with ScreenCapture to handle the retina factors ?

Background Upload Extension
Hello, We are trying to use the new Background Upload Extension to improve uploads of assets (Photos, Live Photos, Videos) in the background in our application. 1 - We implemented the code to upload still images. We would like to do the same for Live Photos but we are not sure how to proceed since a Live Photo is composed of 2 resources that we would like to upload in the same job so that we keep the association between the 2 resources. Steps: A Live Photo is captured on the device. Our application is notified for new content in the Photo Library and the asset is queued for upload by our application. The system calls the background upload extension and the Live Photo is prepared for upload but we can schedule a job only for one resource (still photo or paired video) so we can not upload both resources in a single job. 2 - Is there a way to synchronise the application and the extension so that the application would not process the same data or execute the same requests than the extension. For example: our application is working with tokens and we would like to prevent those tokens to be consumed by the application and the extension at the same time. 3 - is there a command in xcode or terminal to start or stop the extension, something similar to what exists for processing tasks (https://developer.apple.com/documentation/backgroundtasks/starting-and-terminating-tasks-during-development).

Orientation does not work on iPhone 17 and above.
I'm receiving output from avcapturesession and capturing an image using Vision, but the image is output in landscape orientation instead of portrait. Even when I set the orientation to up in ciimage, cgimage, and uiimage, the image is still output in landscape orientation. On iPhones 16 and below, the image is output in portrait orientation. But on iPhones 17 and above, the image is output in landscape orientation. Please help.

AVAudioRecorder loses audio recorded before interruption
Hi everyone, I'm running into an issue with AVAudioRecorder when handling interruptions such as phone calls or alarms. Problem: When the app is recording audio and an interruption occurs: I handle the interruption with audioRecorder?.pause() inside AVAudioSession.interruptionNotification (on .began). On .ended, I check for .shouldResume and call audioRecorder?.record() again. The recorder resumes successfully, but only the audio recorded after the interruption is saved. The audio recorded before the interruption is lost, even though I'm using the same file URL and not recreating the recorder. Repro: Start a recording with AVAudioRecorder Simulate a system interruption (e.g., incoming call) Resume recording after the interruption Stop and inspect the output audio file Expected: Full audio (before and after interruption) should be saved. Actual: Only the audio after interruption is saved; the earlier part is missing Notes: According to the documentation, calling .record() after .pause() should resume recording into the same file. I confirmed that the file URL does not change, and I do not recreate the recorder instance. No error is thrown by the system during this process. This behavior happens consistently when the app is interrupted and resumed. Question: Is this a known issue? Is there a recommended workaround for preserving the full recording when interruptions happen? Thanks in advance!
