Retrieving private-public-certificate triples from keychain
Hi there, I'm currently working on a compatibility feature for Apple that allows the user to manage their keys and certificates from within our internal API. For this I need to retrieve all the items contained within keychains. I am looking at the documentation for SecItem API but so far I have not really found an obvious way to link these items together. My best guess so far is to perform two queries, grabbing all SecKeys from the keychains, pairing them up with public keys through SecKeyCopyPublicKey, then downloading all CertItems and pairing them with public keys with SecCertificateCopyKey, and then join the two using public keys. This sounds however somewhat involved and I was wondering if there was a better way of going about the process?

Does SecTrustEvaluateWithError validates External Reference Identifiers?
Trying to validate external reference identifiers with SecTrustEvaluateWithError Method by setting reference Ids to SecPolicyCreateSSL() & SecPolicyCreateWithProperties() But two concerns are - Validates for correct reference IDs but gives error for combination of wrong & correct reference Ids 398 days validity works mandatorily before reference Ids check. Is there any other to validate external reference Ids?, which give flexibility To pass multiple combinations of reference IDs string (wrong, correct, IP, DNS) To validate reference ID without days validity of 398. Please suggest. Any help here is highly appreciated.

New iOS-style App Groups Prevent App Submission
We have a macOS app that has a Photos Extension, which shares documents with the app via an app group container. Historically we used to have an iOS-style group identifier (group.${TeamIdentifier}${groupName}), because we were lead by the web interface in the developer portal to believe this to be the right way to name groups. Later with the first macOS 15 betas last year there was a bug with the operating system warning users, our app would access data from different apps, but it was our own app group container directory. Therefore we added a macOS-style group identifier (${TeamIdentifier}${groupName}) and wrote a migration of documents to the new group container directory. So basically we need to have access to these two app group containers for the foreseeable future. Now with the introduction of iOS-style group identifiers for macOS, Xcode Cloud no longer archives our app for TestFlight or AppStore, because it complains: ITMS-90286: Invalid code signing entitlements - Your application bundle’s signature contains code signing entitlements that aren’t supported on macOS. Specifically, the “[group.${TeamIdentifier}${groupName}, ${TeamIdentifier}${groupName}]” value for the com.apple.security.application-groups key in isn’t supported. This value should be a string or an array of strings, where each string is the “group” value or your Team ID, followed by a dot (“.”), followed by the group name. If you're using the “group” prefix, verify that the provisioning profile used to sign the app contains the com.apple.security.application-groups entitlement and its associated value(s). We have included the iOS-style group identifier in the provisioning profile, generated automatically, but can't do the same for the macOS-style group identifier, because the web interface only accepts identifiers starting with "group". How can we get Xcode Cloud to archive our app again using both group identifiers? Thanks in advance

AES Decryption
Having trouble decrypting a string using an encryption key and an IV. var key: String var iv: String func decryptData(_ encryptedText: String) -> String? { if let textData = Data(base64Encoded: iv + encryptedText) { do { let sealedBox = try AES.GCM.SealedBox(combined: textData) let key = SymmetricKey(data: key.data(using: .utf8)!) let decryptedData = try AES.GCM.open(sealedBox, using: key) return String(data: decryptedData, encoding: .utf8) } catch { print("Decryption failed: \(error)") return nil } } return nil } Proper coding choices aside (I'm just trying anything at this point,) the main problem is opening the SealedBox. If I go to an online decryption site, I can paste in my encrypted text, the encryption key, and the IV as plain text and I can encrypt and decrypt just fine. But I can't seem to get the right combo in my Swift code. I don't have a "tag" even though I'm using the combined option. How can I make this work when all I will be receiving is the encrypted text, the encryption key, and the IV. (the encryption key is 256 bits) Try an AES site with a key of 32 digits and an IV of 16 digits and text of your choice. Use the encrypted version of the text and then the key and IV in my code and you'll see the problem. I can make the SealedBox but I can't open it to get the decrypted data. So I'm not combining the right things the right way. Anyone notice the problem?

Discrepancy between documentation and the actual behavior
I think there's a slight discrepancy between what is being communicated in EndpointSecurity docs, and what is really happening. For example, consider the description of this event: https://developer.apple.com/documentation/endpointsecurity/es_event_type_t/es_event_type_notify_truncate?language=objc "ES_EVENT_TYPE_NOTIFY_TRUNCATE: An identifier for a process that notifies endpoint security that it is truncating a file." But, it seems that this event is fired up only when truncate(2) is called, not when process truncates a file (which can be done in lots of different ways). But the documentation doesn't even mention that it's only about the truncate(2) call, it's impossible to know. Another example: https://developer.apple.com/documentation/endpointsecurity/es_event_type_t/es_event_type_notify_copyfile?language=objc "ES_EVENT_TYPE_NOTIFY_COPYFILE: An identifier for a process that notifies endpoint security that it is copying a file." It seems that this event is only called when copyfile(3) syscall is called. But the docs doesn't mention that syscall at all. The wording suggests that the event should be emitted on every file copy operation, which is probably impossible to detect. I mean, I get that you'd like the docs to be "easy to digest", but I think that such working confuses people. They expect one thing, then they get confusing behavior from ES, because it doesn't match their expectations, and after reaching out to Apple they get concise and clear answer -- but it would be easier for everyone (including Apple devs) when this answer would be included directly in the official docs for the framework.

How does the Endpoint Security Client communicate with the Container APP?
I've developed a Endpoint Security system extension, which will be installed in a container APP. I use XPC to send message from container APP to the ES client, it works fine. I have developed an Endpoint Security system extension that will be installed in a container app. I utilize XPC to send messages from the container app to the ES client, and it functions properly. However, when I attempt to send messages from the ES client to the container app, it always displays an error: 'Couldn’t communicate with a helper application.'. I have removed the sandbox capability of the container app and also employed the same app group for both the ES client and the container app. When an XPC client is connected, I use the following code in the ES client to establish two-way communication. - (BOOL)listener:(NSXPCListener *)listener shouldAcceptNewConnection:(NSXPCConnection *)newConnection { newConnection.exportedInterface = [NSXPCInterface interfaceWithProtocol:@protocol(NXFileGuardXPCProtocol)]; NXFileGuardXPCService *xpcService = [NXFileGuardXPCService sharedInstance]; newConnection.exportedObject = xpcService; // To APP container client (As remote interface) newConnection.remoteObjectInterface = [NSXPCInterface interfaceWithProtocol:@protocol(NXFileGuardXPCClientProtocol)]; [newConnection activate]; self.containerAPPConnection = newConnection; return YES; } But it always fails. How can I deal with this error?

Does opensources.apple code are publicly available?
Dear Apple Team, I hope this message finds you well. Recently, while exploring Apple’s open-source resources, I came across some files that appear to contain sensitive information, including private keys. I wanted to reach out to clarify whether these files are intentionally made publicly available or if they might be exposed due to a potential misconfiguration. Understanding the nature of these files is important, and I would appreciate any guidance you can provide regarding their accessibility and any necessary steps that should be taken to address this matter. Thank you for your attention to this issue. I look forward to your response.

Authorization Plugin code signing issue
Hi. We're writing Authorization Plugin and started with NullAuthPlugin compilation. When tried to run it on VM (Sonoma 14.6, SIP enabled), we're going into the following issue: `2025-03-08 13:38:20.699503-0800 0xdcb0 Error 0x0 0 0 kernel: (AppleMobileFileIntegrity) [com.apple.MobileFileIntegrity:library_validation_failure] Library Validation failed: Rejecting '/Library/Security/SecurityAgentPlugins/NullAuthPlugin.bundle/Contents/MacOS/NullAuthPlugin' (Team ID: ABCD12EF34, platform: no) for process 'SecurityAgentHel(2094)' (Team ID: N/A, platform: yes), reason: mapping process is a platform binary, but mapped file is not' As I understand, the platform binary is the one signed with Apple signature, which indeed is unavailable for us. How can we avoid this issue and run the plugin? Perhaps we're missing some build setting requirement?

Using AppleId appleIdToken in two different sub-systems
Hello Apple ID support, When a user successfully login with Apple, the apple OAuth will produce a appleIdToken. From my understanding this token is best to not leave the user device. I have two sub-system that can take a appleIdToken and manages the token-refresh separately. In short: Apple -> appleIdToken sub-SystemA(appleIdToken) and sub-systemB(appleIdToken) sub-SystemA and sub-systemB has two separate token management/refresh The question: Is this allowed by the Apple identify server? Is the usecase of supplying appleIdToken to sub-SystemA and sub-systemB valid?

CryptoTokenKit framework usage
Hi, I’m currently working on an app that uses a third-party SDK to perform smart card authentication via PKCS#11 APIs. Specifically, the app interacts with the smart card to retrieve certificates, detect the card reader, and perform encryption and decryption operations on provided data. I’m wondering if it's possible to replace the PKCS#11 APIs and the third-party SDK with Apple's CryptoTokenKit framework. Does CryptoTokenKit provide equivalent functionality for smart card authentication, certificate management, and encryption/decryption operations? Additionally, I’ve come across the following CryptoTokenKit documentation: CryptoTokenKit API - TKSmartCardSlotManager Could you provide an example code or any guidance on how to implement this functionality using CryptoTokenKit, particularly for interacting with smart cards, managing certificates, and performing cryptographic operations? Thank you for your assistance.

Sign in with Apple: domains to whitelist
We are developing a captive portal for a community Wi-Fi service that will be deployed to thousands of locations around the world. The service is a paid service that sells Wi-Fi connectivity by data volume rather than time. We want to enable our customers to Sign in with Apple without giving them full internet access until they have made a purchase. This requires us to whitelist domains and URLs to make this work. Where can I find a complete list of domains that are required for Sign in with Apple to function correctly? It’s not possible for us to whitelist *.apple.com because that results in significant (free) background network traffic during the sign in process. So far we have whitelisted: account.apple.com appleid.apple.com appleid.apple-cdn.com idmsa.apple.com gsa.apple.com mzstatic.com Our customers are still having issues with Sign in with Apple while interacting with our captive portal in the iOS pseudo browser. How can we debug this because we cannot use the Safari developer tools with the pseudo browser. Are there any logs when doing this on a Mac that we can check in the Console? If we kick the user out to Safari then they are able to complete the Sign in with Apple process, but that is not the user experience we want.

sending to Private Relay Email using amazon ses not working
Hello Developers, I have ran into a problem while sending mail to apple private relay email. We have built a mobile application where user can sign up through apple and they can sign up using hide-my-email feature. Which provides private relay address for us. Now we want to communicate with them using private relay mail address. The technology we are using to send emails are amazon SES, have done SPF, DMIK, DMARC and added domains in apple identity services for mail communication, passed an SPF check as well. But still mail is not getting delivered what am i doing wrong or apple doesn't support third party apps for sending emails to private relay? Is there any other way to achieve this please let me know Using the same body as attached in image is working fine for rest emails.

Everything is working if someone logged in, but on the login screen I have the error The application “TestApp” could not be launched because a miscellaneous error occurred. with code 256 NSWorkspace* workspace = [NSWorkspace sharedWorkspace]; NSWorkspaceOpenConfiguration* config = [NSWorkspaceOpenConfiguration configuration]; config.createsNewApplicationInstance = YES; config.activates = NO; config.promptsUserIfNeeded = NO; config.addsToRecentItems = NO; [workspace openApplicationAtURL: appURL configuration: config completionHandler:^(NSRunningApplication *app, NSError *error) { }]; Sometimes after the third try it works, sometimes not at all. I try to use "open" command, it works on MacOS Sequoia, but not working for operating systems below, I see this error The application cannot be opened for an unexpected reason, error=Error Domain=RBSRequestErrorDomain Code=5 "Launch failed." Repeated "Invalid Client" Error with Sign In with Apple
Hi everyone, I'm having a recurring issue with the "Sign in with Apple" integration in my web app, and I’m hoping someone here can help or share insights. Here’s the situation: I implemented "Sign in with Apple" following the official documentation, and it worked perfectly at first. After about two weeks, I started getting the "invalid_client" error when redirecting to the authentication page. I reviewed everything and discovered I hadn’t set up the email configuration properly in the Apple Developer Console. Once I fixed that, it worked fine again. Now, the same error ("invalid_client") has returned, and I’ve triple-checked every part of my configuration: The service ID, redirect URIs, and domain settings match exactly. The client_secret is generated correctly with all required fields (iss, iat, exp, aud, and sub) and signed with ES256. My server time is synchronized. Nothing has changed in my code or configuration since it last worked. This seems to be an issue on Apple’s end because everything was functioning perfectly before, and I’ve already resolved this once by updating settings in the Developer Console. Has anyone else faced this issue? Is there something I might be missing, or could this be a problem with Apple’s service? Any advice or guidance would be greatly appreciated!

802.1X authentication using certificates in the data protection keychain
Can you please give me a hand with importing certificates under MacOS? I want to connect to Wi-Fi with 802.1X authentication (EAP-TLS) using a certificate that my homebrew application imported into my data protection keychain, but the imported certificate does not show up and I cannot select the certificate. It also does not show up in the Keychain Access app. One method I have tried is to import it into the data protection keychain by using the SecItemAdd function and setting kSecUseDataProtectionKeychain to true, but it does not work. Is there a better way to do this? ID: for id in identities { let identityParams: [String: Any] = [ kSecValueRef as String: id, kSecReturnPersistentRef as String: true, kSecUseDataProtectionKeychain as String: true ] let addIdentityStatus = SecItemAdd(identityParams as CFDictionary, nil) if addIdentityStatus == errSecSuccess { print("Successfully added the ID.: \(addIdentityStatus)") } else { print("Failed to add the ID.: \(addIdentityStatus)") } } Certificate: for cert in certificates { let certParams: [String: Any] = [ kSecValueRef as String: cert, kSecReturnPersistentRef as String: true, kSecUseDataProtectionKeychain as String: true ] let addCertStatus = SecItemAdd(certParams as CFDictionary, nil) if addCertStatus == errSecSuccess { print("Successfully added the certificate.: (\(addCertStatus))") } else { print("Failed to add the certificate.: (\(addCertStatus))") } } Private key: for privateKey in keys { let keyTag = UUID().uuidString.data(using: .utf8)! let keyParams: [String: Any] = [ kSecAttrApplicationTag as String: keyTag, kSecValueRef as String: privateKey, kSecReturnPersistentRef as String: true, kSecUseDataProtectionKeychain as String: true ] let addKeyStatus = SecItemAdd(keyParams as CFDictionary, nil) if addKeyStatus == errSecSuccess { print("Successfully added the private key.: \(addKeyStatus)") } else { print("Failed to add the private key.: \(addKeyStatus)") } }

Device unable to download the AASA file when using a domain name with special characters
Hello, I have a fully functional webauthn relying party that uses passkeys and I am trying to implement an iOS sdk for it. On the server, the AASA file is valid and well served at /.well-known/assetlinks.json. I verified its validity with branch.io and that it is indeed cached by Apple's CDN (https://app-site-association.cdn-apple.com/a/v1/service.domain.com), but even will all these I still get the following error when installing the app on a device and starting the passkey ceremony: Passkey authorization failed. Error: The operation couldn’t be completed. Application with identifier TEAM.com.APP is not associated with domain service.domain.com So I then checked the system log when installing the app on my iPhone, and under the swcd process (which is apparently responsible of fetching the AASA file) I found the following error: swcd: Domain is invalid. Will not attempt a download. The issue that I have is that my domain is actually an IDN, it has a special character in it. But everywhere I have used it, I converted it to ASCII (punycode). With this conversion, Apple's CDN is able to fetch the AASA file, and the passkey ceremony works fine on a browser. So I don't understand how the device (both iPhone or Mac) finds this domain to be invalid? In the app's entitlements, I added the capability for an associated domain, with webcredentials:service.domain.com with the domain name converted to ASCII (punycode) and developer mode doesn't address this issue as it appears when the app is installed (and is not related to Apple's CDN). The last thing I tried was to add the domain with special characters in the app's entitlements (for webcredentials:) but then Xcode was unable to install the app on the device, and gave the following error: Failed to verify code signature (A valid provisioning profile for this executable was not found.) which happened only with a special character in the domain in the app's entitlements. All this leaves me kind of in a dead end, I understand Xcode or iOS/macOS has a hard time with IDNs and special characters (so do I), but I have no idea on how to solve this (without changing the domain name), so I would really appreciate any help. Thanks in advance. PS: I tested all this previously with another domain without special characters and it was working. It also had dashes ('-') in it and the new domain converted to ASCII is basically a regular domain with '-' in it so I suppose there is some kind of conversion made from ASCII back to special characters and that then, the domain is considered as invalid, but this doesn't really help me a lot... PS2: My devices are running on iOS 17.4.1 and macOS 14.4.1 with Xcode 15.2
