Is my POST method correct
//Is my post method correct because google and claude are telling me I must use content type for the json and use .setvalue. I thought that my process was correct because I encode the data to turn into json and then make the request func createTask(_ task: Task) async throws -> Task { if let url = URL(string: "(baseURL)/todos"){ var request = URLRequest(url: url) request.httpMethod = "POST" let encoder = JSONEncoder() do{ let data = try encoder.encode(task) request.httpBody = data let (data, response) = try await URLSession.shared.data(for: request) return task //we want to make encoder and then turn the data into json and put it in body } catch{ throw JSONErrors.encodingFailed } } else{ throw URLError(.badURL) } }

Guidance Needed: Safari ITP's Link Tracking Protection Impacts Legitimate App Functionality
Area: WebKit (Safari) Description: I am reporting an issue where our application's core functionality is being broken by Safari's Intelligent Tracking Prevention (ITP). ITP's "Link Tracking Protection" feature automatically strips specific query parameters from URLs. We understand this is an intentional privacy feature. However, our application requires these query parameters to carry essential, non-tracking data, such as authentication tokens or specific app-state information to function correctly. When a user navigates to our site, Safari strips these parameters, this means our client-side application never receives the necessary data, which breaks core features and leads to a failed user experience. This is a significant issue for our application as it prevents users from accessing their content. We are seeking guidance on how to resolve this. Questions for Apple: Is there a recommended way to identify and flag essential, non-tracking query parameters so that Safari's ITP does not strip them? Our parameters are critical for app functionality, not for third-party tracking. What is the recommended best practice for building web applications that rely on URL parameters while adhering to ITP's privacy-first model? We want to ensure our application is compatible with modern browser privacy features without compromising functionality. Could you provide a detailed explanation of what criteria ITP uses to decide which parameters to strip? Understanding the underlying logic would help us restructure our URLs to avoid this issue. Device Information: Operating System: iOS and macOS Safari Version: Latest stable versions on both platforms Device Models: All relevant models and device types

After iOS 18.4, files are called multiple times in WKWebView
Since the transition to iOS 18.4, we have been having an issue where when loading an m3u8 file specified in the src attribute of a video tag in WKWebView, the ts file is loaded repeatedly. Are there any good ideas for this? Also, if there have been any changes to the specifications of WKWebView, we would appreciate it if you could let us know.

declarativeNetRequest addOrReplaceParams adds a parameter when already present
I'm trying to use DNR to force safe search with Qwant search engine. Under certain circumstances (scenario described below) the search is performed with an API which contains the safe search level in a URL parameter. A typical query URL is https://api.qwant.com/v3/search/web?q=test&count=10&locale=fr_FR&offset=0&device=desktop&tgp=1&safesearch=0&displayed=true&llm=true. I want a DNR rule to force safesearch to be 2 (= strict) (from some javascript code) : { id: 1, priority: 1, action: { type: 'redirect', "redirect": { "transform": { "queryTransform": { "addOrReplaceParams": [{ "key": "safesearch", "value": "2" }] } } } }, condition: { "urlFilter": "api.qwant.com/v3/search", "resourceTypes": ["xmlhttprequest"] }, } When this rule is activated, I end up with a URL with the original safesearch parameter AND the forced one : https://api.qwant.com/v3/search/web?q=test&count=10&locale=fr_FR&offset=0&device=desktop&tgp=1&safesearch=0&displayed=true&llm=true&safesearch=2. To reproduce this request (with the previous DNR rule in place) : navigate to https://www.qwant.com search for some string (test in my case). This displays the list of results ; click the engine button at the top right to display the settings pane ; inspect network request performed by this page ; change the Adult filter in the list -> the results are automatically updated with the new settings. The web request shows URL with the 2 safesearch parameters. I already used addOrReplaceParams in 'standard' contexts (main_frame) and it works just fine. Any hint on what goes on ? Thank you.

Frontend Does Not Display Password Validation Error (e.g., “Password Cannot Contain Your Name”)
Description When creating an Apple ID via the web form, if the user’s chosen password contains their own name, the server correctly returns an error (e.g., "Password cannot contain your name") in the PUT request's JSON response. However, this error is not shown on the frontend, leaving users unaware of why the form silently fails or stalls. Steps to Reproduce Go to the Apple ID account creation page (https://appleid.apple.com/account). Enter valid account details where the password includes the user's first or last name (e.g., Johnacb2331!l for a user named John Doe). Complete all fields, including phone number verification and captcha. Submit the form and monitor the Network tab in your browser’s DevTools. Observe that the form appears to hang, loop, or silently fail. Open the PUT request to /account — the response JSON will contain the relevant validation error (e.g., “Password cannot contain your name”), but the user is not shown this. Expected Behavior The password validation error (e.g., containing the user’s name) should be immediately displayed in the UI next to the password field to inform the user and allow for correction. Actual Behavior No error is shown in the UI. The form appears to fail silently, leaving the user confused. The actual reason for failure is only visible through browser developer tools in the PUT response payload. Impact This can lead to: User frustration and confusion Increased support overhead Poor UX in a critical flow (account creation) Environment Browser: chrome 136.0.7103.114 Platform: Web (https://appleid.apple.com) Date observed: 31/5/25 Suggested Fix Ensure that password validation messages from backend responses surface in the frontend, especially for common user input issues like including names in passwords. No screenshots as I can not create a new account

Safari Flags My Rebuilt Site as Deceptive — Need Review / Whitelisting
Hi Apple Devs & WebKit Team, We operate https://excnum.com — a personal website currently under reconstruction. It's HTTPS-secure, hosted on a clean VPS, and now features a simple placeholder page with no active forms, scripts, or external redirects. However, Safari on both iOS and macOS is flagging it as a “deceptive website”, blocking all access. This warning appears even though: The site uses a valid SSL certificate via Cloudflare There are no redirects, tracking scripts, or dynamic code We serve a static landing page (“under maintenance”) with zero interaction No malware, phishing, or obfuscation exists — verified with multiple tools A review request has already been submitted at: https://websitereview.apple.com We believe the site may have been blacklisted previously under past ownership or prior configurations. It has since been completely restructured and cleared, but the Safari warning persists. This false flag is harming visibility and trust for an otherwise neutral website. Any advice on how to expedite re-evaluation or request a manual delisting from the deceptive site list would be much appreciated. Thank you! — Alex Admin, EXCNUM.COM

Tab onDetached and Tab onAttached web extension events are no longer generated in macOS 15.4 / Safari 18.4
Hello - we have a Mac application that uses a browser extension and the web extension JS APIs to communicate with Safari. As of macOS 15.4 / Safari 18.4 the tab OnAttached and tab onDetached events are no longer received. After some testing we verified that the events were working properly as of macOS 15.3 / Safari 18.3 but appear to have been broken in macOS 15.4. Note a similar issue was reported previously for Safari 17.6 and was fixed in macOS 15.0 (FB14324177). We have made a TestFlight version of our app (Tabby) available to simplify debugging via https://testflight.apple.com/join/Va8Zdv9d. To reproduce the issue: Install the Tabby TestFlight build on macOS 15.4 or 15.4.1 Open Safari, go to Safari settings and select the Extensions tab Enable the Tabby extension and grant permissions to all windows all the time Open a Safari window with at least 3 tabs Note the open window and tabs displayed in Tabby In Safari, perform a tab detach by dragging a tab out of the window Expected behavior Within Safari the detached tab should now be in it’s own window, and via the onDetached event Tabby should update to show the tab in it’s own window AND removed from the original window. Observed Safari fails to send the onDetached event and Tabby will continue to display the detached tab in its original window in addition to the new window. You can also use the repro steps above to observe the onDetached event being received or not by Tabby in the Safari developer console. The same steps but re-attaching the tab to the original window can be used to observe the onAttached event being received or not. We’ve attached two screen recordings to the Feedback ID below, one showing the events working on macOS 15.3, and one showing the events failing to be received on macOS 15.4.1. Note it also fails on macOS 15.4. FEEDBACK ID: FB17367977

How to create a thumbnail for tabs like Safari or Chrome?
In the safari or chrome app, when I want to change tabs, I can go into a grid view of the tabs. In this grid, each tab shows the content of the page. When I click on one of the tabs, the content of the page expands to fill the entire screen (and shrinks when I go back to grid). I'm creating my own browser and I'm trying to replicate this same functionality. I'm using WebKit on XCode 16.4, iOS 18. However, I'm unable to figure out how Chrome and Safari did this. First, I thought that I could take a snapshot of the page and then use that image as the thumbnail. However, very often the image is of the wrong size - likely due to the webview shrinking for the animation. Making the animation wait until the image is made available did help in making it more consistent. The above errors happen whenever I spam the new tab and then click the tab grid button. It only is misaligned on the very last new tab. Please help on this. // OpenedTab.swift Button(action: { tab.getThumbnail { tabManager.selectedTab = nil } }) { ZStack { Image(systemName: "square") .resizable() .frame(width: 25, height: 25) Text(tabManager.tabs.count.description) .font(.subheadline) } } // TabState.swift func getThumbnail(completionHandler: (() -> Void)? = nil) { webView.takeSnapshot(with: nil) { img, err in if let err = err { print("Snapshot err: \(err)") } else { self.thumbnail = img completionHandler?() } } } Also, something I'm noticing is that for some reason, the image is slightly bigger than the header of the tab card. It also happens in the progress view if the thumbnail isn't available. The images above show it too. I have no clue why this is happening and I would love advice on this too. struct TabCardView: View { @StateObject var manager = TabManager.shared @ObservedObject var tab: TabState var namespace: Namespace.ID @State var width: CGFloat = 0 var body: some View { GeometryReader { geo in VStack(spacing: 0) { HStack(spacing: 1) { Text(tab.title ?? tab.url.host() ?? "") .font(.caption2) .padding(.horizontal, 4) .padding(.vertical, 10) Button(action: { manager.close(tab: tab) }) { Image(systemName: "multiply") } } .frame(height: 40) .frame(width: geo.size.width) // .padding(.horizontal, 7) .background(.tertiary) .matchedGeometryEffect(id: tab.id.uuidString + "title", in: namespace) ZStack { if let thumbnail = tab.thumbnail { Image(uiImage: thumbnail) .resizable() .aspectRatio(contentMode: .fill) .frame(width: geo.size.width, height: 160, alignment: .top) .clipped() } else { Color.black.brightness(0.8) ProgressView() } } .frame(width: geo.size.width, height: 160) .matchedGeometryEffect(id: tab.id.uuidString + "container", in: namespace) } .frame(width: geo.size.width) } .frame(height: 200) .clipShape(RoundedRectangle(cornerRadius: 16)) .shadow(radius: 2) .padding(.all, 7) .overlay( RoundedRectangle(cornerRadius: 20) .stroke(.blue, lineWidth: manager.previousTab?.id == tab.id ? 5 : 0) ) .shadow(radius: 1) } }

WebKit https post return html use javascript send WebSocket Request
In my application, I use HTML pages to display the interface. Since it’s a cross-platform app, the pages and interactions work properly on other platforms. However, in WebKit, because HTTPS protocol is used, JS requests from the page cannot use the ws protocol but must use the wss protocol under HTTPS. Is there any way to allow a webpage under HTTPS to use ws requests normally? Google Chrome can do this.

New WebView in iOS 26 Pull To refresh support
The new WebView implementation in *OS 26 versions is a very valuable addition to the SwiftUI toolset. I was experimenting with it and was wondering how to implement a Pull To Refresh. While this was easily achievable with the "old" WKWebView I was not able to find an API to implement, for example, a page reload when the user uses a pull to refresh gesture. I tried to attach to a .refreshable(_:) modifier to the WebView but without success. Is there an official API for that or should maybe .refreshable(_:) already work and it's just a bug or is it simply not yet supported? Here is a minimal example I was trying but didn't succeed: struct ContentView: View { @State private var page = WebPage() var body: some View { NavigationStack { WebView(page) .refreshable { page.reload() } } } } Any help is much appreciated. Thank you!

WebKit's `decidePolicy` breaking change in iOS 18.5 + Xcode 16.4
It seems that in iOS 18.5+ built with Xcode 16.4+, there has been a breaking change since 18.4 with 16.3 within WebKit and how the navigationAction.sourceFrame property is initialized when implementing the decidePolicy delegate method. The flow goes: Implement a WKNavigationActionDelegate with decidePolicy Call WKWebView.loadHTMLString("some-string", baseURL: nil) Upon loading the HTML content, read the value of navigationAction.sourceFrame within the decidePolicy method of the WKNavigationActionDelegate On iOS 18.4 (and below) with Xcode 16.3 (and below); navigationAction.sourceFrame is <uninitialized> On iOS 18.5+ with Xcode 16.4+: navigationAction.sourceFrame is already initialized and is equal to navigationAction.targetFrame It appears that this change was made between minor versions of Xcode and is unexpected behavior of a minor version. Not only was this not called out in the release notes for Xcode 16.4 and iOS 18.5, but it's technically also a breaking change to the WebKit API. Can we get insight on why this change was made and what Apple's policy is on breaking changes between minor versions of Xcode/iOS?

iOS 26/MacOS 26 - PWA App Icons: Dark,Clear,Tinted Appearance
Hi everyone, I'm exploring the new app icon appearance options (Clear, Dark, Tinted) for Progressive Web Apps (PWAs) on iOS26, iPadOS26, and macOS26. Currently, PWA icons don't seem to render well with these new appearances, particularly in Clear and Tinted modes, resulting in very very poor visual quality. You can hardly see anything. Has support for these icon appearances been fully implemented for PWAs? If so, could someone point me to the relevant Apple Developer documentation or provide guidance on how to configure PWA icons to support Clear, Dark, and Tinted appearances? I've searched the Apple Developer Forums, Stack Overflow, and Reddit but haven't found clear information on this topic.A possible solution is a png file with transparent areas, but if the pattern is dark, nothing will be visible in dark mode. Any insights or resources would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! (plz don't give up on PWA😭) Reference: https://developer.apple.com/forums/thread/761615 https://stackoverflow.com/questions/78780916/is-there-a-way-to-provide-light-dark-and-tinted-variants-of-apple-touch-icon https://developer.apple.com/library/archive/documentation/AppleApplications/Reference/SafariWebContent/ConfiguringWebApplications/ConfiguringWebApplications.html

iOS26 Safari rendering bug even on latest beta 3
I am testing stuff on a website, and it worked well on any mobile browser till iOS18. Now that I am testing iOS26, even with the latest BETA (3) everything works smoothly on any other mobile browser but Safari. Previously I had the bug, which now has been patched, for status-bar, which was flickering too, but popover and page issue seems still there. I have persistent popover and ajax navigation, and both are rendering with bugs and fouc while view/page changes. Example: If I have an element which must stay on its place and its width is 100vw: while page changes it blinks, shrinks, flicker and jumps on rendering, while it simply must stay as is.. Animations and page transitions work smoothly on Chrome mobile (latest iOS 26 beta 3) , while breaking on Safari. I did open a feedback FB18328720, but seems no one caring. Any idea guys? ** Video of the bug (which is huge!) : ** https://youtube.com/shorts/rY3oxUwDd7w?feature=share Cheers

Cannot Play mp3 File via AudioContext in iOS 18 Safari
I have a Safari extension that plays audio via the javascript AudioContext API. It was working fine under iOS 17 and is now broken under iOS 18. It does not play audio at all. I've tried in both the iOS 18 public beta and the iOS 18.1 developer beta. It is broken in both of them. I've also created Feedback item FB15170620 which has a url attached to a page I created which demonstrates the issue.

Cancelling the "pick up annotation" animation
While implementing Apple Maps into our web application, I have a scenario where I want to be able to drag and move some of my custom annotations around. While that is working, when "picking up" the annotation before dragging it, there is an animation which I believe is to represent the human interaction of picking up a pin from a map, I would like to cancel that animation and thought that would be possible by calling preventDefault() in the emitted long-press event, which the documentation states that annotations should emit if they are draggable. The thing is that I don't get this event to emit when long pressing an annotation. So I believe that I have found a bug. It's in this paragraph in the documentation https://developer.apple.com/documentation/mapkitjs/handling-map-events#Respond-to-map-interaction-events A long press occurs on the map outside an annotation. A long press may be the beginning of a panning or pinching gesture on the map. You can prevent the gesture from starting by calling the preventDefault() method of the event. Annotations need to be draggable to dispatch long-press events. In anybody else experiencing this or do you see any clear fix for this? Maybe there is another way to cancel that "picking up the annotation for dragging" animation. I have seemed to try anything else.

ServiceWorker Support in iOS WKWebView
Is ServiceWorker supported on WKWebView? As per Mozilla Developer Network(MDN Web) docs[1] its not supported, but our research shows that ServiceWorker becomes available for a domain in WKWebView 1) if the domain is allowlisted in app-bound domains[2] or 2) if app is registered as default browser(this can not be considered for our app as its not a browser). How to enable ServiceWorker on WKWebView? Is adding domain as app-bound domain the right/only way to enable ServiceWorker on WKWebView? We didn't find any official documentation about this. Can WebView get ServiceWorker support by default without enabling app bound domains since that is not an option for our app? Our app needs to support more than 10 domains. Powerful APIs such as JavaScript injection, cookie manipulation, event handlers are by default available to all domains/WebView instances even if App doesn't enable app-bound domains. Is it possible to do same for ServiceWorker? If ServiceWorker can not be supported by default then can Apple provide a feature by which ServiceWorker will be enabled in App for all the domains? Apple enforces maximum of 10 app-bound domains. Is it possible to remove this limit and provide a way to dynamically add to this list at the time of a request? [1] https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/API/ServiceWorker#browser_compatibility [2] https://webkit.org/blog/10882/app-bound-domains/

This is generated in the onvalidatemerchant event handler, and passed into session.completeMerchantValidation. Using a sandbox account with linked cards, the next thing that happens is a "payment not completed" message in the ApplePay popup on the page, and the oncancel event is hit Inspecting the event, I don't see anything that hints at the issue. There is a sessionError object, but its code is "unknown" and the info object is empty.

Is my POST method correct
//Is my post method correct because google and claude are telling me I must use content type for the json and use .setvalue. I thought that my process was correct because I encode the data to turn into json and then make the request func createTask(_ task: Task) async throws -> Task { if let url = URL(string: "(baseURL)/todos"){ var request = URLRequest(url: url) request.httpMethod = "POST" let encoder = JSONEncoder() do{ let data = try encoder.encode(task) request.httpBody = data let (data, response) = try await URLSession.shared.data(for: request) return task //we want to make encoder and then turn the data into json and put it in body } catch{ throw JSONErrors.encodingFailed } } else{ throw URLError(.badURL) } }

In the safari or chrome app, when I want to change tabs, I can go into a grid view of the tabs. In this grid, each tab shows the content of the page. When I click on one of the tabs, the content of the page expands to fill the entire screen (and shrinks when I go back to grid). I'm creating my own browser and I'm trying to replicate this same functionality. I'm using WebKit on XCode 16.4, iOS 18. However, I'm unable to figure out how Chrome and Safari did this. First, I thought that I could take a snapshot of the page and then use that image as the thumbnail. However, very often the image is of the wrong size - likely due to the webview shrinking for the animation. Making the animation wait until the image is made available did help in making it more consistent. The above errors happen whenever I spam the new tab and then click the tab grid button. It only is misaligned on the very last new tab. Please help on this. // OpenedTab.swift Button(action: { tab.getThumbnail { tabManager.selectedTab = nil } }) { ZStack { Image(systemName: "square") .resizable() .frame(width: 25, height: 25) Text(tabManager.tabs.count.description) .font(.subheadline) } } // TabState.swift func getThumbnail(completionHandler: (() -> Void)? = nil) { webView.takeSnapshot(with: nil) { img, err in if let err = err { print("Snapshot err: \(err)") } else { self.thumbnail = img completionHandler?() } } } Also, something I'm noticing is that for some reason, the image is slightly bigger than the header of the tab card. It also happens in the progress view if the thumbnail isn't available. The images above show it too. I have no clue why this is happening and I would love advice on this too. struct TabCardView: View { @StateObject var manager = TabManager.shared @ObservedObject var tab: TabState var namespace: Namespace.ID @State var width: CGFloat = 0 var body: some View { GeometryReader { geo in VStack(spacing: 0) { HStack(spacing: 1) { Text(tab.title ?? tab.url.host() ?? "") .font(.caption2) .padding(.horizontal, 4) .padding(.vertical, 10) Button(action: { manager.close(tab: tab) }) { Image(systemName: "multiply") } } .frame(height: 40) .frame(width: geo.size.width) // .padding(.horizontal, 7) .background(.tertiary) .matchedGeometryEffect(id: tab.id.uuidString + "title", in: namespace) ZStack { if let thumbnail = tab.thumbnail { Image(uiImage: thumbnail) .resizable() .aspectRatio(contentMode: .fill) .frame(width: geo.size.width, height: 160, alignment: .top) .clipped() } else { Color.black.brightness(0.8) ProgressView() } } .frame(width: geo.size.width, height: 160) .matchedGeometryEffect(id: tab.id.uuidString + "container", in: namespace) } .frame(width: geo.size.width) } .frame(height: 200) .clipShape(RoundedRectangle(cornerRadius: 16)) .shadow(radius: 2) .padding(.all, 7) .overlay( RoundedRectangle(cornerRadius: 20) .stroke(.blue, lineWidth: manager.previousTab?.id == tab.id ? 5 : 0) ) .shadow(radius: 1) } }
