I have a simple Safari extension for iOS. In its popup, I want a button that will open the app via a universal link. I have this kind-of working, except that Safari opens the actual online destination of the link with a banner at the top saying "Open in the XXXX app" and an OPEN button. What do I have to do to go directly to the app? More generally, I know that if I copy-and-paste a universal link into the Safari address bar, Safari does the same thing - but it does go directly to the app from an <a href="...."> link. In my app extension JavaScript, I set window.location. Presumably this is too similar to pasting into the address bar. Is there some alternative to setting window.location that is more like clicking on a link and will go directly to the universal link's app? Thanks.

I’ve been working on a personal iOS project for fun — essentially a YouTube music player, learning how background media playback works in native iOS apps. After seeing that Musi (a famous music streaming app) can play YouTube audio in the background with the screen off — I got really curious. I’ve been trying to replicate that basic background audio functionality for YouTube embeds using WKWebView. I've spent a crazy amount of time (probably 20 hours) trying to figure this out but have achieved no success. If I exit the app and go to the lock screen quickly enough (less than 3 seconds) after pressing play, I can resume playback briefly from the lock screen — but it doesn’t automatically continue like in Musi and other apps like it. Most of the time, the audio stops when the app is backgrounded. How can i add Authorization header to a wkwebview. I checked https://developer.apple.com/documentation/foundation/nsurlrequest#1776617 which says Authorization header is a reserved http header and shouldn’t be set. I want to set it when requesting a url in wkwebview for authentication purpose?

I have a local HTML file used to display mixed content with images and text. Here's the issue: the same file displays everything correctly in Google Chrome, showing both images and text as expected. However, when opened in Safari, only the text is shown—images are missing, which is very strange. Interestingly, if I remove .png from the title attribute of the tag, the images show up properly in Safari. Alternatively, if I comment out the inclusion of html2canvas.min.js, the images also display correctly (although the layout breaks without it). I'm not sure if this is a Safari-specific issue. Can anyone explain what might be causing this problem?

Hey, very strange problem I have on iOS when shared web as an app (pwa) to home screen. Whenever I use it via safari browser on iPhone, it works 100% fine every time. However, when I put it as an app on home screen, first time I open it it works fine, when i close it and reopen again, it just doesnt start recording. I have to restart my phone for it to work. We're embedding the Power BI reports into our portal by using JS library. While testing them, we found that mobile layout of the reports don't work as we expect on iOS devices (tested in Chrome and Safari). There are two principals issues: 1) the site is automatically refreshed when the users filter the data (we reduced them to lower expression) and 2) the site also crashes after a while using the dashboard by applying different filters.

Rotate the device from portrait to landscape orientation. Observe that the page is incorrectly scaled to a value other than 100%. Rotate the device back to portrait orientation. The page remains at the incorrect zoom level. Expected Result: After returning the page to 100% zoom, changing orientation should keep the zoom level at exactly 100% in both portrait and landscape modes. Actual Result: After returning to 100% zoom, rotating to landscape changes the zoom to a non-100% value, and rotating back to portrait retains the incorrect zoom level.

Additionally, asynchronous network requests also do not receive any response. The problem occurs exclusively on HTTPS pages, whereas HTTP pages load without any issues. Other components, such as workers, function correctly. addUserScript injection during WKWebView creation is effective, and evaluateJavaScript during the page loading process works as expected. However, when the document becomes unresponsive, executing evaluateJavaScript only triggers the callback after the WKWebView is destroyed. I have discovered a reliable method to reproduce the white screen issue in WKWebView. This method involves the following steps and conditions: Create a WKWebView instance. Load an HTML page using the loadRequest method（https url request）. Before the WKWebView is attached to the UI (not yet visible to the user), call the evaluateJavaScript function. Hello everyone. I have a very strange behavior with smart app banners in Safari. When I don't have installed app on my phone, I can't see the banner on our product main page. When I installed the app, I can see the banner, which allows me to go directly to the app. When I put any other app's ID in the meta tag it works perfectly even if I don't have its installed app. So the code is right, what can be the reason of this behavior? Any settings of the app are required?

We are experiencing an issue in iPadOS 18.4 when loading an internal HTTPS server via WKWebView in a hybrid iOS app. Our server uses a self-signed certificate but lacks the digitalSignature usage in its Key Usage extension. In the safari or chrome app, when I want to change tabs, I can go into a grid view of the tabs. In this grid, each tab shows the content of the page. When I click on one of the tabs, the content of the page expands to fill the entire screen (and shrinks when I go back to grid). I'm creating my own browser and I'm trying to replicate this same functionality. I'm using WebKit on XCode 16.4, iOS 18. However, I'm unable to figure out how Chrome and Safari did this. First, I thought that I could take a snapshot of the page and then use that image as the thumbnail. However, very often the image is of the wrong size - likely due to the webview shrinking for the animation. Making the animation wait until the image is made available did help in making it more consistent. The above errors happen whenever I spam the new tab and then click the tab grid button. It only is misaligned on the very last new tab. We are encountering a download issue in Safari 18.2 on macOS Sequoia 15.2 where file downloads initiated by our AngularJS application (such as Excel exports) are silently blocked. There are no errors in the browser console, and the download does not occur. Interestingly, after testing on Safari 18.3 with Sequoia 15.3, the downloads worked as expected. We have noticed that in iOS 16 or greater , the Smart App Banner which shows based on meta tag added is not showing the app ratings inside the popup. Can we override this new behavior to show ratings and custom text.
