How does the threshold in DeviceActivityEvent work
Hey everyone, I'm working on implementing an AppLimit, where after accumulating x minutes of Screen Time for an app, it should be blocked. It works fine on the first day, but stops functioning correctly on subsequent days. What I'm Doing I start a 24/7 schedule with a DeviceActivityEvent that has a specified Screen Time threshold. In my DeviceActivityMonitor, I'm reacting to the eventDidReachThreshold. Once the accumulated time is reached, the app is blocked. This works as expected on the first day. Issues I'm Experiencing / Questions Second Day Issue: On the second day, the app is no longer blocked after the Screen Time threshold is reached, even though it worked on the first day. This leads me to suspect that a DeviceActivityEvent is consumable. Is this correct? Pre-existing Screen Time Issue: If a user has already surpassed the Screen Time threshold before monitoring starts, the app isn't blocked once the schedule is set up. This leads to 2 issues: I would expect that the accumulated amount of tim

Family Controls Issues with Multiple Functionalities
I am developing an application that utilizes Family Controls to restrict the use of certain apps. Currently, I am using the following extensions: DeviceActivityMonitor, ShieldConfiguration, and ShieldAction. Issue Overview: While blocking a single application functions correctly, a problem arises when implementing multiple functionalities that use these extensions for the same application. STEPS TO REPRODUCE Functionality 1: Maximum Time in App Description: Blocks the app after 15 minutes of continuous use. Functionality 2: Conscious Opening Description: Upon opening the app, it is blocked for 10 seconds and then automatically unlocked. Steps to Reproduce the Bug: Open the Application: The app opens normally. Trigger Functionality 2 The app is blocked and displays the blocking screen corresponding to Functionality 2: Conscious Opening. Continue Using the App After 10 seconds, the app unlocks, and I continue using it. Important: If the app is closed at this point, the bug does not occur. Trigger Funct

Trigger Action After eventDidReachThreshold
I am trying to configure my app to monitor device screen time and shield apps after a certain amount of screen time is reached. Here's the scheduled I created: let schedule = DeviceActivitySchedule( // I've set my schedule to start and end at midnight intervalStart: DateComponents(hour: 0, minute: 0), intervalEnd: DateComponents(hour: 23, minute: 59), // I've also set the schedule to repeat repeats: true ) class MySchedule { var item: NoteItem init(item: NoteItem) { self.item = item } public func setSchedule() { print(Setting schedule...) print(Hour is: , Calendar.current.dateComponents([.hour, .minute], from: Date()).hour!) var threshold = DateComponents(hour: item.hour, minute: item.min) let events: [DeviceActivityEvent.Name: DeviceActivityEvent] = [ .discouraged: DeviceActivityEvent( applications: NotificationsModel.shared.selectionToDiscourage.applicationTokens, threshold: threshold ) ] let center = DeviceActivityCenter() do { print(Try to start monitoring...) try center.startMonitoring(.daily, during: sc

DeviceActivityMonitor.intervalDidEnd never getting called
I'm trying to build an app with a DeviceActivityMonitor extension that executes some code after 15 minutes. I can confirm that the extension is set up correctly and that intervalDidStart is executed, but for some reason the intervalDidEnd method never gets called. What I'm doing in both is just registering a local notification. class DeviceActivityMonitorExtension: DeviceActivityMonitor { let store = ManagedSettingsStore() override func intervalDidStart(for activity: DeviceActivityName) { createPushNotification( title: Session activated!, body: ) super.intervalDidStart(for: activity) } override func intervalDidEnd(for activity: DeviceActivityName) { createPushNotification( title: Session ended, body: ) super.intervalDidEnd(for: activity) } private func createPushNotification(title: String, body: String) { let content = UNMutableNotificationContent() content.title = title content.body = body // Configure the recurring date. var dateComponents = Calendar.current.dateComponents([.era, .year,

DeviceActivityReportExtension sandbox blocks all output channels — how to export resolved Application.bundleIdentifier?
DeviceActivityReportExtension sandbox blocks all output channels — how to export resolved Application.bundleIdentifier? Application.bundleIdentifier only resolves to a non-nil value inside a DeviceActivityReportExtension (ExtensionKit/XPC). The main app and DeviceActivityMonitor extension always return nil. However, the Report Extension's sandbox silently blocks every output channel I've tested: UserDefaults (App Group): Reads succeed, writes silently dropped File writes (App Group container): Fail silently or throw HTTP requests: Network blocked entirely Local Notifications: Couldn't communicate with a helper application UIPasteboard: Writes silently fail iCloud KVS: synchronize() returns false Both targets share the same com.apple.security.application-groups entitlement and group identifier. The main app reads and writes to the shared container normally — only the extension's writes fail. This means resolved bundle identifiers can only be rendered in the extension's own SwiftUI view and cannot be c

Family Controls (Distribution) entitlement missing for Device Activity Monitor extension - blocking TestFlight distribution
Hi Apple Developer Community, I'm experiencing an issue with Family Controls entitlements for my iOS app that I'd like to discuss and see if others have encountered similar problems. Background: My app (BrightStart) uses Family Controls to help users build healthy morning routines by temporarily blocking distracting apps until they complete a sunlight exposure session. The core functionality relies on automatic time-based blocking (e.g., block social media apps from 6-8am daily). The Problem: I have Family Controls working perfectly in development builds, but I'm blocked from distributing via TestFlight due to entitlement issues with my Device Activity Monitor extension. Technical Details: Main app bundle ID: app.brightstart.app ✅ Has both Family Controls (Development) and Family Controls (Distribution) options available Extension bundle ID: app.brightstart.app.BrightStartMonitorExtension ❌ Only shows Family Controls (Development) - no Distribution option Error when archiving for TestFlight: ❌ Provisioning pr

Supported ways to intervene on app-open and on a schedule (non-blocking) — Screen Time / Shortcuts
I'm building a consumer iOS app that helps users be more intentional about opening distracting apps. It never hard-blocks; it only nudges. I have Family Controls (Distribution) approved and a working TestFlight build using FamilyControls / DeviceActivity / ManagedSettings. I've confirmed from testing and the forums that: ShieldActionResponse is only .none / .defer / .close (no supported way to open my main app from the shield extension — threads 719905, 793060). ShieldConfiguration is a static snapshot (no countdown/animation; FB14237883). DeviceActivityMonitor events are threshold/schedule based and cannot hook the app was just opened, and on iOS 26 eventDidReachThreshold fires immediately/incorrectly (thread 808470). I'd like to confirm the supported approaches for these UX patterns (each = every-app-open vs on-a-schedule): On app open, present my own full-screen UI (a brief non-blocking pause) without requiring the user to manually create a Shortcuts personal automation. Is there any supported API

DeviceActivityMonitorExtension - intervalDidStart doesn't get called
Hello, I have an app that you can select apps and then start monitoring. When I restrict the apps by button click, and monitor the activity, the scheduled time works and intervalDidEnd cancels shielding apps. DeviceActivity `eventDidReachThreshold` fires immediately on iOS 26.5.2 — fix timeline & supported alternative for usage-based reminders?
Following up on my earlier thread about non-blocking interventions. I ran a clean, isolated test on iOS 26.5.2: I start DeviceActivityCenter.startMonitoring with a single event whose threshold is 2 minutes of usage for a selected app (includesPastActivity = false), with actions on eventDidReachThreshold. Result: the event's recorded trigger time is +0 seconds from monitoring start (immediate), it fires without any real usage, and after 2 minutes of actual use no notification and no ManagedSettings shield are applied. This matches the regression discussed in Forum thread 808470 / FB18061981. Concretely, the feature we want to build: while a user is using a selected app, deliver a repeating local notification every N minutes of usage (e.g., every 15 minutes) whose body states how many minutes they've used that app today (e.g., You've used TikTok for 45 minutes today). This is a gentle, factual awareness nudge — no blocking. This is exactly what eventDidReachThreshold with multiple thresholds (15/30/45 min…) + s

Reshield apps after certain time?
So I have been working with the screen time api. however I still cant get it to work to reshield certain apps after a certain time because for example Dispatch Queue just gets terminated after a certain time. Does an opt-in leaderboard using an abstracted on-device score comply with DPLA 3.3.3(P)?
I am the developer of a screen time awareness app currently on the App Store. It uses the Family Controls and DeviceActivity frameworks, with the distribution entitlement approved, to show users their own cumulative screen time since install. All tracking today is fully on-device and nothing leaves the user's phone. I am planning an optional social feature and I want to confirm Apple's position before building it, because I want to stay clearly within the Developer Program License Agreement, specifically Section 3.3.3(P) regarding data received through the Family Controls framework. Here is how the feature would work: The app monitors the user's own device activity via DeviceActivityMonitor threshold events. This is the same mechanism the app already uses for its on-device counter. On-device, that counter is converted into an abstracted, gamified score. The score is not expressed in hours, minutes, or any unit of time, and the app never displays it as time. If, and only if, the user opts in to the fe

FamilyControls individual authorization: No way to detect revocation while app is backgrounded
We are developing an MDM agent app that uses FamilyControls with .individual authorization to enforce Screen Time restrictions (app blocking, domain blocking via ManagedSettingsStore and DeviceActivityCenter). The Problem We are actively subscribing to AuthorizationCenter.shared.$authorizationStatus to detect authorization changes. However, when the user revokes the app's FamilyControls authorization through Settings (either via Settings > Screen Time > Apps With Screen Time Access, or Settings > Apps > [Our App]), the publisher does not emit any value. All ManagedSettingsStore restrictions are lifted immediately by the system, but our app receives no notification of this change. The only scenario where the publisher reliably emits is when a debugger is attached (i.e., running directly from Xcode). Without the debugger, the publisher is completely silent — even when the app returns to foreground. Code Example We tried subscribing directly to AuthorizationCenter.shared.$authorizationStatus with no
