What is the time frame for an app to be offloaded if the user does not open it? Also, is there any way for an app be exempt from offloading? Moreover, how can we track the number of offloads?

I develop an desktop application for backup/restore PC. Which files must be excluded from backup on macOS? Files protected by SIP? Files with specific attributes? What is the correct way to determine them?

I have Bootcamp installed on my iMac 2019. And i have a APFS formatted 1TB external HDD. I was checking my old USB sticks from Windows Disk Manager. It asked to Start Service something like that. I thought it is asking for USB stick. It was asking for my external 1TB. Clicked it without knowing. Now it looks raw and all my data in it, gone... Can i fix it? Thanks

In APFS, the file name size limit seems to be 255 UTF-8 characters. This is what Wikipedia says (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_file_systems#Limits), and matches my own tests. However, I cannot seem to find a concrete way to query that in a C POSIX program, or even find the official documentation that says "APFS file name is 255 UTF-8 characters" as the Wikipedia article did not actually site its source. There is a syslimits.h, which defines NAME_MAX as follows:; #define NAME_MAX 255 /* max bytes in a file name */ This is extremely misleading (it's basically wrong) as APFS can handle UTF-8 characters, which probably means up to 4 * 255 = 1024 bytes. Is there an official API or compile-time constant that we can refer to? It's quite non-ideal to manually do a NAME_MAX * 4 especially when you are working on a cross-platform program that just queries NAME_MAX for bytes in say Linux. The current naive implementation of char file_name[NAME_MAX+1] will lead to buffer overflow when user has non-ASCII file names. (Edit: Obviously either way you should program defensively and check your buffer sizes regardless of whether NAME_MAX is correct)

I recently emptied a profile on my MacBook Air of all of its file contents, and moved it to another profile on my Mac. I then deleted the account, but a folder full of super sensitive data disappeared on my separate account. Almost all of the data was gone, except for a useless file that I haven’t touched in forever. I have tried 4 different recovery programs, but I can’t find any of the data. What the heck happened to my data? How, if possible, are the two events connected??? I am in a M1 MacBook Air 2020 with the latest update Ventura 13.2.1.

A valid provisioning profile for this executable was not found. I have an ad-hoc app that has worked properly for a couple of months. The BundleID, Certificate and Provisioning File are all valid and up-to-date but this morning the app will not open and users are saying they receive a message: "[APP] is No Longer Available". I tried loading the app on my phone and below is the log files. It is acting as if the Provisioning file is not available or valid, but it is fine. I checked to see if the Developer ID Notary Service is down, but all systems are online. Any thoughts? I am using my iPad Pro with Photoshop Elements installed on my desktop iMac. Works fine except the pencil and the iPad screen are not in special register. E.g. when the pen touches the pad is makes a line about 10% of the page away from the tip of the pen. Another example, when I want to select a brush icon on the iPad I need to aim about 10% higher to hit the icon. When I touch the brush icon I am actually choosing a lower icon like the pail. There is no correlation between the tip of the pencil and what I am choosing. The pencil works fine when I am not using sidecar on the iPad. Any suggestions?

Hey guys I need urgent help,I accidentally erased my internal SSD and now I'm stuck in a bootloop and my SSD don't appear anywhere except terminal and disk utilities,like it doesn't show up when I try to reinstall mac os ,when I tried using a usb for reinstallation after guid partition and stuff ,I was shown that this disk can't be used for pre flight and I'm unable to use it either then if I click on get info of my SSD in disk utilities it shows that my disk is unbootable ,not verified and it shows that every byte of my SSD is used (whole 9 digits) please help me with this asap

I am fed up with you apple. Will you ever give us a solution for this error. Clearly your problem, not the drive. Issue started when I upgraded to Monterrey from Big Sur. I literally backed up my OS before upgrading. All these error broke my SSD as it now no longer works on any computer. So, I went out and bought a brand new Samsung 8 70EVO 500GB: Drive was unreadable but at least stable when plugged in out of the box. As soon as I reformatted the drive to APFS it started ejecting on it's own. Will you ever give us a fix or do we all have to move to another OS? Windows is terrible but at least I can use an SSD...

I have a local APFS filesystem (sparsebundle disk image) mounted read-only: /dev/disk5s1 on /opt/homebrew (apfs, local, nodev, nosuid, read-only, journaled, noowners, nobrowse) There are no open files as reported by $ sudo lsof +f -- /opt/homebrew However, an attempt to remount via the -u and -w options fails with the following error: $ sudo mount -u -w /opt/homebrew mount_apfs: volume could not be mounted: Permission denied mount: /opt/homebrew failed with 66 Is there a configuration option that I'm missing?
