watchOS: AppIntents.IntentRecommendation description ignored when applying a .watchface
When we use AppIntents to configure WidgetKit complications, the description we provide in IntentRecommendation is ignored after applying a .watchface file that includes those intent configurations. In the Watch app, under Complications, the labels shown next to each slot do not match the actual complications on the face—they appear to be the first strings returned by recommendations() rather than the selected intent configuration. Steps to Reproduce Create an AppIntent used by a WidgetKit complication (e.g., .accessoryRectangular). Correct SwiftData Concurrency Logic for UI and Extensions
Hi everyone, I'm looking for the correct architectural guidance for my SwiftData implementation. In my Swift project, I have dedicated async functions for adding, editing, and deleting each of my four models. I created these functions specifically to run certain logic whenever these operations occur. Since these functions are asynchronous, I call them from the UI (e.g., from a button press) by wrapping them in a Task. I've gone through three different approaches and am now stuck. Approach 1: @MainActor Functions Initially, my functions were marked with @MainActor and worked on the main ModelContext. This worked perfectly until I added support for App Intents and Widgets, which caused the app to crash with data race errors. Approach 2: Passing ModelContext as a Parameter To solve the crashes, I decided to have each function receive a ModelContext as a parameter. My SwiftUI views passed the main context (which they get from @Environment(\.modelContext)), while the App Intents and Widgets created and passed in their own private context. However, this approach still caused the app to crash sometimes due to data race errors, especially during actions triggered from the main UI. Approach 3: Creating a New Context in Each Function I moved to a third approach where each function creates its own ModelContext to work on. This has successfully stopped all crashes. However, now the UI actions don't always react or update. For example, when an object is added, deleted, or edited, the change isn't reflected in the UI. I suspect this is because the main context (driving the UI) hasn't been updated yet, or because the async function hasn't finished its work. My Question I'm not sure what to do or what the correct logic should be. How should I structure my data operations to support the main UI, Widgets, and App Intents without causing crashes or UI update failures? AppIntents crashes in prod
We implemented AppIntents using EnumerableEntityQuery and @Dependency and we are receiving these crash reports: AppIntents/AppDependencyManager.swift:120: Fatal error: AppDependency of type MyDependency.Type was not initialized prior to access. Dependency values can only be accessed inside of the intent perform flow and within types conforming to _SupportsAppDependencies unless the value of the dependency is manually set prior to access. I can't post the stack because of the Developer Forums sensitive language filter :( but basically it's just a call to suggestedEntities of MyEntityQuery that calls the dependency getter and then it crashes. My understanding was that when using @Dependency, the execution of the intent, or query of suggestedEntities in this case, would be delayed by the AppIntents framework until the dependency was added to the AppDependencyManager by me. At least that's what's happening in my tests. But in prod I'm having these crashes which I haven't been able to reproduce in dev yet. Does anyone know if this is a bug or how can this be fixed? As a workaround, I can avoid using @Dependency and AppDependencyManager completely and make sure that all operations are async and delay the execution myself until the dependency is set. But I'd like to know if there's a better solution. Thanks!

Siri AppIntent phrasing
When my AppShortcut phrase is: "Go (.$direction) with (.applicationName)" Then everything works correctly, the AppIntent correctly receives the parameter. But when my phrase is: "What is my game (.$direction) with (.applicationName)" The an alert dialog pops up saying: "Hey siri what is my game tomorrow with {app name} Do you want me to use ChatGPT to answer that?" The phrase is obviously heard correctly, and it's exactly what I've specified in the AppShortcut. Siri Shortcut extension build cycle
I developed a XCode project using Flutter (v. 3.35.6). The application basically has a IntentExtension to handle intents donation and the related business logic. We decided to go with ShortcutExtension in place of AppIntents because it fits with our app's use case (where basically we need to dynamically donate/remove intents). We have an issue building the project, and it is due to the presence of the IntentExtension .appex file in the Build Phases --> Embed Foundation Extensions. If we remove it , the project builds however the IntentHandling is not invoked in the Shortcuts app. Build issue: Generated error in the console: Cycle inside Runner; building could produce unreliable results. LiveActivityIntent call perfrom inconsistently

How to properly localise AppShortcutPhrase?
Hi, I have AppShortcutsProvider in my app target(not as a separate extension) to support Siri command. However, I don't see localisation for those phrases anywhere in the String Catalog and when I try to use String(localized: ), compiler gives me an error. How can I properly localise AppShortcutPhrase?

Unknown error when displaying IntentItems with images in widget configuration intent
Hi everyone, I’m building a simple sticky notes app that allows users to place a note widget on their home screen. Each widget displays a user-created sticky note. To let users choose which note to show, I’ve implemented an Intent that presents a list of existing sticky notes. The list is built using IntentItems, and for each item I assign an image to visually represent the note. Each sticky note can have a different background color and optional image, so I generate a small PNG (150×150, ~30 KB) and include it in the app bundle. However, when I try to display the selection list, I get the following error: The action Select sticky note could not run because an unknown error occurred. If I tap OK and try again, the intent selector appears and works. Here’s what I’d like to understand: What could cause this unknown error when using images in IntentItems? Are there known limitations on image size, source, or format for intent item images? Can I supply a unique image per sticky note, or must all intent items share a common image? Any guidance or insights would be greatly appreciated — I haven’t been able to find clear documentation about image handling in IntentItem for widget configuration. Thanks!

App Intent Parameter (AppEntity) not registering
I'm currently testing this on a physical device (12 Pro Max, iOS 26). Through shortcuts, I know for a fact that I am able to successfully trigger the perform code to do what's needed. In addition, if I just tell siri the phrase without my unit parameter, and it asks me which unit, I am able to, once again, successfully call my perform. Visual Intelligence API SemanticContentDescriptor labels are empty
I'm trying to use Apple's new Visual Intelligence API for recommending content through screenshot image search. The problem I encountered is that the SemanticContentDescriptor labels are either completely empty or super misleading, making it impossible to query for similar content on my app. Even the closest matching example was inaccurate, returning a single label ["cardigan"] for a Supreme T-Shirt. I see other apps using this API like Etsy for example, and I'm wondering if they're using the input pixel buffer to query for similar content rather than using the labels? If anyone has a similar experience or something that wasn't called out in the documentation please lmk! Thanks.

AppIntentConfiguration WatchOS & iOS inconsistent
I'm having problems with my released app with iOS & WatchOS 26 support. I've added AppIntentConfiguration support in the WatchOS app such that users can configure the complication. My complications also support multiple families and so I have slightly different configuration options available if its in the .accessoryRectangular slot or the .accessoryCircular one. This works fine on Apple Watch when editing the Watch face. Here you can then select the configuration options fine and they are correct for the different variants. However on iOS when configuring in the Apple Watch app on iPhone, the different complication size is ignored and the same configuration options are offered meaning they are wrong for one of them. AppIntent, StartWorkoutIntent, and Siri
I'm a bit confused as to what we're supposed to be doing to support starting a workout using Siri in iOS/watchOS 26. On one hand, I see a big push to move towards App Intents and shortcuts rather than SiriKit. On the other hand, I see that some of the things I would expect to work with App Intents well... don't work. BUT - I'm also not sure it isn't just developer error on my part. Here are some assertions that I'm hoping someone more skilled and knowledgable can correct me on: Currently the StartWorkoutIntent only serves the Action button on the Watch Ultra. It cannot be used to register Shortcuts, nor does Siri respond to it. I can use objects inherited from AppIntent to create shortcuts, but this requires an additional permission to run a shortcut if a user starts a workout with Siri. AppIntent shortcuts requires the user to say "Start a workout in " - if the user leaves out the "in " part, Siri will not prompt the user to select my app. If I want to allow the user to simply say "Start a Workout" and have Siri prompt the user for input as to which app it should use, I must currently use the older SiriKit to do so. Are these assertions correct - or am I just implementing something incorrectly? Using the latest Xcode 26 beta for what it is worth.

AppShortcuts.xcstrings does not translate each invocation phrase option separately, just the first
Due to our min iOS version, this is my first time using .xcstrings instead of .strings for AppShortcuts. When using the migrate .strings to .xcstrings Xcode context menu option, an .xcstrings catalog is produced that, as expected, has each invocation phrase as a separate string key. However, after compilation, the catalog changes to group all invocation phrases under the first phrase listed for each intent (see attached screenshot). It is possible to hover in blank space on the right and add more translations, but there is no 1:1 key matching requirement to the phrases on the left nor a requirement that there are the same number of keys in one language vs. another. (The lines just happen to align due to my window size.) What does that mean, practically? Do all sub-phrases in each language in AppShortcuts.xcstrings get processed during compilation, even if there isn't an equivalent phrase key declared in the AppShortcut (e.g., the ja translation has more phrases than the English)? (That makes some logical sense, as these phrases need not be 1:1 across languages.) In the AppShortcut declaration, if I delete all but the top invocation phrase, does nothing change with Siri? watchOS: AppIntents.IntentRecommendation description ignored when applying a .watchface
When we use AppIntents to configure WidgetKit complications, the description we provide in IntentRecommendation is ignored after applying a .watchface file that includes those intent configurations. In the Watch app, under Complications, the labels shown next to each slot do not match the actual complications on the face—they appear to be the first strings returned by recommendations() rather than the selected intent configuration. Steps to Reproduce Create an AppIntent used by a WidgetKit complication (e.g., .accessoryRectangular). Correct SwiftData Concurrency Logic for UI and Extensions
Hi everyone, I'm looking for the correct architectural guidance for my SwiftData implementation. In my Swift project, I have dedicated async functions for adding, editing, and deleting each of my four models. I created these functions specifically to run certain logic whenever these operations occur. Since these functions are asynchronous, I call them from the UI (e.g., from a button press) by wrapping them in a Task. I've gone through three different approaches and am now stuck. Approach 1: @MainActor Functions Initially, my functions were marked with @MainActor and worked on the main ModelContext. This worked perfectly until I added support for App Intents and Widgets, which caused the app to crash with data race errors. Approach 2: Passing ModelContext as a Parameter To solve the crashes, I decided to have each function receive a ModelContext as a parameter. My SwiftUI views passed the main context (which they get from @Environment(\.modelContext)), while the App Intents and Widgets created and passed in their own private context. However, this approach still caused the app to crash sometimes due to data race errors, especially during actions triggered from the main UI. Approach 3: Creating a New Context in Each Function I moved to a third approach where each function creates its own ModelContext to work on. This has successfully stopped all crashes. However, now the UI actions don't always react or update. For example, when an object is added, deleted, or edited, the change isn't reflected in the UI. I suspect this is because the main context (driving the UI) hasn't been updated yet, or because the async function hasn't finished its work. My Question I'm not sure what to do or what the correct logic should be. How should I structure my data operations to support the main UI, Widgets, and App Intents without causing crashes or UI update failures? AppIntents crashes in prod
We implemented AppIntents using EnumerableEntityQuery and @Dependency and we are receiving these crash reports: AppIntents/AppDependencyManager.swift:120: Fatal error: AppDependency of type MyDependency.Type was not initialized prior to access. Dependency values can only be accessed inside of the intent perform flow and within types conforming to _SupportsAppDependencies unless the value of the dependency is manually set prior to access. I can't post the stack because of the Developer Forums sensitive language filter :( but basically it's just a call to suggestedEntities of MyEntityQuery that calls the dependency getter and then it crashes. My understanding was that when using @Dependency, the execution of the intent, or query of suggestedEntities in this case, would be delayed by the AppIntents framework until the dependency was added to the AppDependencyManager by me. At least that's what's happening in my tests. But in prod I'm having these crashes which I haven't been able to reproduce in dev yet. Does anyone know if this is a bug or how can this be fixed? As a workaround, I can avoid using @Dependency and AppDependencyManager completely and make sure that all operations are async and delay the execution myself until the dependency is set. But I'd like to know if there's a better solution. Thanks!

Siri AppIntent phrasing
When my AppShortcut phrase is: "Go (.$direction) with (.applicationName)" Then everything works correctly, the AppIntent correctly receives the parameter. But when my phrase is: "What is my game (.$direction) with (.applicationName)" The an alert dialog pops up saying: "Hey siri what is my game tomorrow with {app name} Do you want me to use ChatGPT to answer that?" The phrase is obviously heard correctly, and it's exactly what I've specified in the AppShortcut. Siri Shortcut extension build cycle
I developed a XCode project using Flutter (v. 3.35.6). The application basically has a IntentExtension to handle intents donation and the related business logic. We decided to go with ShortcutExtension in place of AppIntents because it fits with our app's use case (where basically we need to dynamically donate/remove intents). We have an issue building the project, and it is due to the presence of the IntentExtension .appex file in the Build Phases --> Embed Foundation Extensions. How to properly localise AppShortcutPhrase?
Hi, I have AppShortcutsProvider in my app target(not as a separate extension) to support Siri command. However, I don't see localisation for those phrases anywhere in the String Catalog and when I try to use String(localized: ), compiler gives me an error. How can I properly localise AppShortcutPhrase?

Unknown error when displaying IntentItems with images in widget configuration intent
Hi everyone, I’m building a simple sticky notes app that allows users to place a note widget on their home screen. Each widget displays a user-created sticky note. To let users choose which note to show, I’ve implemented an Intent that presents a list of existing sticky notes. The list is built using IntentItems, and for each item I assign an image to visually represent the note. Each sticky note can have a different background color and optional image, so I generate a small PNG (150×150, ~30 KB) and include it in the app bundle. However, when I try to display the selection list, I get the following error: The action Select sticky note could not run because an unknown error occurred. If I tap OK and try again, the intent selector appears and works. Here’s what I’d like to understand: What could cause this unknown error when using images in IntentItems? Are there known limitations on image size, source, or format for intent item images? Can I supply a unique image per sticky note, or must all intent items share a common image? Any guidance or insights would be greatly appreciated — I haven’t been able to find clear documentation about image handling in IntentItem for widget configuration. Thanks!

App Intent Parameter (AppEntity) not registering
I'm currently testing this on a physical device (12 Pro Max, iOS 26). Through shortcuts, I know for a fact that I am able to successfully trigger the perform code to do what's needed. In addition, if I just tell siri the phrase without my unit parameter, and it asks me which unit, I am able to, once again, successfully call my perform. Wrong AppIntents in Shortcuts app with iOS 26
I and many of my users observed the problem that the Shortcuts app seems to confuse and swap actions of different apps from the same developer. This happens after updating to iOS 26. This breaks many Shortcuts. Deleting one of the apps or re-adding the actions sometimes seems to help. Does anybody else observe this problem, or know how to handle this?

Visual Intelligence API SemanticContentDescriptor labels are empty
I'm trying to use Apple's new Visual Intelligence API for recommending content through screenshot image search. The problem I encountered is that the SemanticContentDescriptor labels are either completely empty or super misleading, making it impossible to query for similar content on my app. Even the closest matching example was inaccurate, returning a single label ["cardigan"] for a Supreme T-Shirt. I see other apps using this API like Etsy for example, and I'm wondering if they're using the input pixel buffer to query for similar content rather than using the labels? If anyone has a similar experience or something that wasn't called out in the documentation please lmk! Thanks.

AppIntentConfiguration WatchOS & iOS inconsistent
I'm having problems with my released app with iOS & WatchOS 26 support. I've added AppIntentConfiguration support in the WatchOS app such that users can configure the complication. My complications also support multiple families and so I have slightly different configuration options available if its in the .accessoryRectangular slot or the .accessoryCircular one. This works fine on Apple Watch when editing the Watch face. Here you can then select the configuration options fine and they are correct for the different variants. However on iOS when configuring in the Apple Watch app on iPhone, the different complication size is ignored and the same configuration options are offered meaning they are wrong for one of them. Looping back in an AppIntent
I want to offer the user the opportunity to add more stuff to a list in AppIntents, but nothing I've tried "loops back" to the first Siri query. Checked several LLMs and they are suggest using "requestDialog" which doesn't exist, and calling recursively my AppIntent. Is this even possible?

Date Property Limited to date and not time?
I would like to have an AppEntity with a Property that is a Date, which is only the date, not the time. ie the equivalent of 09/14/2025, not 09/14/2025 09:00 UTC How would I model this? How would I create an EntityPropertyQuery for this? If I add QueryProperties they have the UI in Shortcuts pick a time too. Thanks!

AppIntent, StartWorkoutIntent, and Siri
I'm a bit confused as to what we're supposed to be doing to support starting a workout using Siri in iOS/watchOS 26. On one hand, I see a big push to move towards App Intents and shortcuts rather than SiriKit. On the other hand, I see that some of the things I would expect to work with App Intents well... don't work. BUT - I'm also not sure it isn't just developer error on my part. Here are some assertions that I'm hoping someone more skilled and knowledgable can correct me on: Currently the StartWorkoutIntent only serves the Action button on the Watch Ultra. It cannot be used to register Shortcuts, nor does Siri respond to it. I can use objects inherited from AppIntent to create shortcuts, but this requires an additional permission to run a shortcut if a user starts a workout with Siri. AppIntent shortcuts requires the user to say "Start a workout in " - if the user leaves out the "in " part, Siri will not prompt the user to select my app. If I want to allow the user to simply say "Start a Workout" and have Siri prompt the user for input as to which app it should use, I must currently use the older SiriKit to do so. Are these assertions correct - or am I just implementing something incorrectly? Using the latest Xcode 26 beta for what it is worth.

AppShortcuts.xcstrings does not translate each invocation phrase option separately, just the first
Due to our min iOS version, this is my first time using .xcstrings instead of .strings for AppShortcuts. When using the migrate .strings to .xcstrings Xcode context menu option, an .xcstrings catalog is produced that, as expected, has each invocation phrase as a separate string key. However, after compilation, the catalog changes to group all invocation phrases under the first phrase listed for each intent (see attached screenshot). It is possible to hover in blank space on the right and add more translations, but there is no 1:1 key matching requirement to the phrases on the left nor a requirement that there are the same number of keys in one language vs. another. (The lines just happen to align due to my window size.) What does that mean, practically? Do all sub-phrases in each language in AppShortcuts.xcstrings get processed during compilation, even if there isn't an equivalent phrase key declared in the AppShortcut (e.g., the ja translation has more phrases than the English)? (That makes some logical sense, as these phrases need not be 1:1 across languages.) In the AppShortcut declaration, if I delete all but the top invocation phrase, does nothing change with Siri? ValidateAppShortcutStringsMetadata error in sample project
I'm trying to run sample Trails app from the documentation, unaltered. When I do the build, I get a Command ValidateAppShortcutStringsMetadata failed with a nonzero exit code error. How do I debug this? I'm trying this on Xcode 16.4.
