AppIntentTimelineProvider "func timeline(for" is called twice after a widget button triggers an AppIntent Perform
I'm adding widget interactivity to my home screen widgets via buttons and AppIntents, but running into some interesting behavior the way the timeline is reloaded after. I'm following this guide from Apple https://developer.apple.com/documentation/widgetkit/adding-interactivity-to-widgets-and-live-activities And the widget is guaranteed to be reloaded when a button pressed with an intent, But whenever the AppIntent is done with the perform action, the widget timeline is always reloaded twice. It's also interesting to note that both reloads happen after the perform method. If you add a 10 second sleep in the perform, nothing happens for 10 seconds, then both reloads happen. This issue with this is 2-fold. calculating and rendering the entire widget timeline can be Networking and DB intensive operations, so I would ideally like to avoid doing all the work twice and save the users battery and processing. The even worse issue, sometimes data on the server changes in between the split second duplicate widget timeline reloads, causing the widget to flash one state, then update to another a second later which is not a good user experience. I have a sample project which shows the issue and is very easy to reproduce. The widget simply keeps track of the number of reloads. To reproduce: Add the widget to the homescreen Press the refresh button, and observe the timeline refresh count always goes up by 2. I've filed a Feedback and attached the sample project and screen recording for anyone to reproduce. FB15595835

Critical Bug in iOS 18.1 RC and watchOS 11.1 RC - WidgetKit Complications Not Syncing
I've encountered a major issue with the iOS 18.1 RC and watchOS 11.1 RC. It appears that complications running on WidgetKit cannot be synced as .watchface to these new release candidates. The error message indicates that "the Watch Faces app and complication are not available," which is affecting all apps utilizing WidgetKit. This issue renders all WidgetKit-based complications unusable on watchOS 11.1 RC. It’s a serious problem for those of us who rely on these complications for our apps and for users expecting consistent functionality. APPLE, PLEASE FIX THIS ISSUE ASAP! This bug is a significant setback for developers and users alike, and any guidance or updates would be greatly appreciated.

Tinted widgets have an inset background in the widget gallery only
When the home screen is in tinted mode in iOS 18, the widget gallery seems to display widgets with the background inset from the edge of the widget (i.e. negative padding). You can see this behavior in the Apple News widget too, where the full-bleed content outside of the inset is very light. This only happens in the sample gallery, not when the widgets are placed on the home screen. For my widgets, this outer edge contains important content and the clipping behavior makes the widgets look poorly designed when viewed in the gallery. Is there any way to turn this behavior off and just show the widget normally in the gallery with no weird inset — the way it will actually display when added to the home screen? If it matters, my widgets are currently configured with: .contentMarginsDisabled() .containerBackground(for: .widget) { // ... (background color) */ }

Widget link broken by `.desaturated` image rendering mode
Using desaturated mode on an image in a widget will break any links or buttons that use the image as their 'label'. Using the following will just open the app as if there was no link at all - therefore just using the fallback userActivity handler, or any .widgetURL() urls provided. Link(destination: URL(string: "bug://never-works")!) { Image("puppy") .widgetAccentedRenderingMode(.desaturated) } The same goes for buttons: Button(intent: MyDemoIntent()) { Image("puppy") .widgetAccentedRenderingMode(.desaturated) } I've tried hacky solutions like putting the link behind the image using a ZStack, and disabling hit testing on the image, but they don't work. Anything else to try? Logged as Feedback #15152620.

Control Center widget won't show snippet view
Has anyone been able to create a Control Center widget that opens a snippet view? There are stock Control Center widgets that do this, but I haven't been able to get it to work. Here's what I tried: struct SnippetButton: ControlWidget { var body: some ControlWidgetConfiguration { StaticControlConfiguration( kind: "xxx.xxx.snippetWidget" ) { ControlWidgetButton(action: SnippetIntent()) { Label("Show Snippet", systemImage: "map.fill") } } .displayName(LocalizedStringResource("Show Snippet")) .description("Show a snippet.") } } struct SnippetIntent: ControlConfigurationIntent { static var title: LocalizedStringResource = "Show a snippet" static var description = IntentDescription("Show a snippet with some text.") @MainActor func perform() async throws -> some IntentResult & ProvidesDialog & ShowsSnippetView { return .result(dialog: IntentDialog("Hello!"), view: SnippetView()) } } struct SnippetView: View { var body: some View { Text("Hello!") } }

App widget not appearing in widget list (intermittent)
There seems to be a long running issue with WidgetKit where some users don't see the widget when trying to add to their Home Screen. (even after opening the app for the first time). I have been able to reproduce myself intermittently, and typically restarting the phone or re-installing the app fixes the problem. However, some of my users have encountered this and end up requesting refunds because they think the app is broken. Has anybody else experienced this issue? Would be great to get this bug resolved as it's frustrating for users.

Unable to launch + Attach to Mac Widget (Sonoma + Xcode 15)

iOS 16.0 beta 7 broke Text(Date(), style: .timer) in SwiftUI widgets
Hi, In my apps, the recent iOS 16.0 beta 7 (20A5356a) broke the .timer DateStyle property of the Text view, in a SwiftUI widget. In previous OS and beta, Text(Date(), style: .timer) was correctly displaying an increasing counter. In iOS 6.0 beta 7, Text(Date(), style: .timer) does not update anymore, (and is offset to the left). The other DateStyle (like .offset, .relative, ...) seems to update correctly. Anyone noticed that (very specific) problem ?

iOS Dynamically loaded custom fonts in WidgetKit not working on real device (simulator is fine). Sandbox chronod deny file-read-data for font file.
Project structure is: App target + widget extension + widget intent extension All share a common appgroup group.com.x.y and all file handling is done using FileManager.default.containerURL(forSecurityApplicationGroupIdentifier: "group.com.x.y") so that only the shared container is used. Using the Main app target, a font "Chewy-Regular.ttf" is downloaded and saved to the shared AppGroup container. Font can now be loaded via CTFontManagerRegisterFontsForURL and displayed in a Main App Text view Text("Testing...").font(Font.custom("Chewy-Regular", size: 20)) Now add a Widgetkit widget instance that uses this font. In 'getTimeLine() and getSnapShot() of IntentTimelineProvider we load the font again via CTFontManagerRegisterFontsForURL (this needs to happen again probably because widget runs in a separate process from the main app?). On simulator, the widget will show the correct font. BUT On iPhone7 real device, the widget will show the 'redacted placeholder view'. It seems that something is crashing. Lock widget for pro-users
Hi, I have added widgets to my iOS app and I would like to make this feature only accessible to "pro" users that have made a non-consumable in-app purchase. Currently, I am doing the following: I store an "isUnlocked" property in the Keychain after the purchase is made I read data to be displayed in the widget and here I also query the Keychain and store whether the widget is unlocked I have no refresh policy, but only change the widget data on a significant time change a different view is displayed when the app is locked Some dummy code snippets: func getTimeline(in context: Context, completion: @escaping (Timeline
) -> Void) { let entry = readContents() let timeline = Timeline(entries: [entry], policy: .never) completion(timeline) } struct WidgetEntryView: View { let entry: Provider.Entry @Environment(\.widgetFamily) var family @ViewBuilder var body: some View { switch family { case .systemSmall: if !entry.isUnlocked { LockedWidgetView() } else if let event = entry.event { SmallWidgetEventView(event: event) } else { NoDataWidgetView() } ... func applicationSignificantTimeChange(_ application: UIApplication) { if #available(iOS 14.0, *) { WidgetCenter.shared.reloadAllTimelines() } ... However, 2 unexpected things happen: the view is refreshed intraday (not only at midnight i.e. at significant time change) sometimes the LockedWidgetView is displayed. Especially the latter is problematic, because it gives false information to a user that has already made the in-app purchase. How can I achieve my goal of only displaying info when the user has made the in-app purchase? Thanks in advance. P.S. Although it would not have my preference, I would also find it acceptable if the widget is only shown as option to add once the purchase is made. In other words, I was considering changing the Widget itself: struct MyWidget: Widget { private var supportedFamilies: [WidgetFamily] = isUnlocked() ? [.systemSmall, .systemMedium] : [] but I believe I cannot re-initialise the widget from the app when the user makes the in-app purchase, because the only refresh option that I have is WidgetCenter.shared.reloadAllTimelines()

I see in the device console : error 14:39:07.567120-0800 chronod No configuration found for configured widget identifier: D9BF75EE-4A04-441A-8C85-1507F7ECE379 fault 14:39:07.625600-0800 widgetxExtension -[EXSwiftUI_Subsystem beginUsing:withBundle:] unexpectedly called multiple times. error 14:39:07.672733-0800 chronod Encountered an error reading the view archive for <private>; error: <private> error 14:39:07.672799-0800 chronod [co.appevolve.onewidget.widgetx:widgetx:small:1536744920620481560@148.0/148.0/20.2] reload: could not decode view error 14:39:07.674984-0800 kernel Sandbox: chronod(2128) deny(1) file-read-metadata /private/var/mobile/Containers/Shared/AppGroup/9B524570-1765-4C24-9E0C-15BC3982F0DC/downloadedFonts/Chewy/Chewy-Regular.ttf error 14:39:07.675762-0800 kernel Sandbox: chronod(2128) deny(1) file-read-data /private/var/mobile/Containers/Shared/AppGroup/9B524570-1765-4C24-9E0C-15BC3982F0DC/downloadedFonts/Chewy/Chewy-Regular.ttf error 14:39:07.708914-0800 chronod [u 8D2C83B3-A6CB-432E-A9D4-9BC8F7056B10:m (null)] [<private>(<private>)] Connection to plugin invalidated while in use. fault 14:39:07.710284-0800 widgetxExtension -[EXSwiftUI_Subsystem beginUsing:withBundle:] unexpectedly called multiple times. error 14:39:07.803468-0800 chronod Encountered an error reading the view archive for <private>; error: <private> It seems that it's a permission issue, and the textview can't access the font file it needs when the widget is rendering. Please help! Thank you.
