I'm working on adding CarPlay support to an audio app and am running into an issue. Occasionally, when a user opens the app from CarPlay while the main app scene is either not connected or is currently in the background, I will receive an error when attempting to activate the audio session. The code below mimics my setup:

Once in this state, all subsequent attempts to play different pieces of content will fail. However, things will start working normally if the user opens the app on their phone and tries again from CarPlay (while the app is in the foreground on their phone).
I'm not sure why it would behave this way and want to note that I do have the audio background mode capability enabled.
Has anyone else encountered this? Are there any workarounds or changes I could make to prevent this from happening?

I am developing an app that uses MusicKit to play music and then I need to have spoken words played to the user, while ducking the audio coming from MusicKit (application music player)
the built in Siri voices are not off sufficient quality so I am using an external service to create an mp3 file and then play this back using AVAudioSession

It works perfectly fine.
But in production env some small percentage of the user we are facing issue like after recording few packets it stops automatically without stopping the audio engine. Can anyone help here that why this happens? I have also observed for mediaServicesWereResetNotification and added log on receiving this notification but when this issue happens I don't see any occurence of this log. Also is there any callback when the engine stops?
Does anyone know how to pronounce the sound of a specific instrument when you tap a button on the screen on your iPhone or iPad? Now, in the middle of creating a music learning app, I'm thinking of assigning monotones or chords to the button-like frames on the keyboard and fingerboard on the screen. Can it be achieved with SwiftUI chords alone? Once upon a time, MIDI level 1 I remember that there was a pronunciation function of the instrument, but I don't think about implementing the same function in the current OS. Please lend me your wisdom.

I've got a problem with my app where I'm testing it on my own phone.
I'm using audio kit to generate tones as part of the app. Everything seems to work fine. Sounds start, Stop, etc. They play when the app is closed and when the phone is locked, so background is working.
However, I'm seeing an issue where, even when STOP is pressed and the application exited, if I get a notification such as a text message, the base tone for the app starts to play.
If I then open the app, check the Start/Stop button - it says start so that. hasnt' been activated. If I click Start, then a 2nd tone starts. This one stops with the Stop button. However the original tone that was set off by an incoming message carries on playing.
Until I go to the Open Apps View on the phone and slide the application upwards.
For the life of me, I can't figure out whats happening here.

I'm experiencing an issue with iOS's audio routing system when trying to use Bluetooth headphones for audio output while also recording environmental audio from the built-in microphone.
Desired behavior:
Play audio through Bluetooth headset (AirPods)
Record unprocessed environmental audio from the iPhone's built-in microphone
Actual behavior:
When explicitly selecting the built-in microphone, iOS reports it's using it (in currentRoute.inputs)
However, the actual audio data received is clearly still coming from the AirPods microphone
The audio is heavily processed with voice isolation/noise cancellation, removing environmental sounds

When AirPods are connected:
AVAudioSession.currentRoute.inputs correctly shows "Built-in Microphone" after setPreferredInput()
The actual audio data received shows clear signs of AirPods' voice isolation processing
Background/environmental sounds are actively filtered out...
When recording a test audio played near the phone (not through the app), the recording is nearly silent. Only headset voice goes through.

Is there a workaround to force iOS to actually use the built-in microphone while maintaining Bluetooth output?
Are there any lower-level configurations that might resolve this issue?
Any insights, workarounds, or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. This is blocking a critical feature in my application that requires environmental audio recording while providing audio feedback through headphones 😅

I'm trying to receive parquet files using the example that provided in documentation. I've done all required steps but receive constantly error 500 with "Upstream Service Error". By looking into the issues list, seems this error exists for months. Is it possible to get it working?
I'm using an AVAudioConverter object to decode an OPUS stream for VoIP. The decoding itself works well, however, whenever the stream stalls (no more audio packet is available to decode because of network instability) this can be heard in crackling / abrupt stop in decoded audio. OPUS can mitigate this by indicating packet loss by passing a null pointer in the C-library to

Has anyone else experienced variations in the accuracy of the playbackTime value? After a few seconds of playback, the reported time adjusts by a fraction of a second, making it difficult to calculate the actual playbackTime of the audio.
This can be recreated by playing a song in MusicKit, recording the start time of the audio, playing for at least 10-20 seconds, and then comparing the playbackTime value to one calculated using the start time of the audio. In my experience this jump occurs after about 10 seconds of playback.

Hi, I'm working on an AUv3 project.
The app itself displays my icon.
However the Auv3 extension does not display any icon in any host app (AUM, Drambo, etc.0).
I thought that the extension would inherit the host app icon but that it does not appear to be the case.
I tried to add the icon as a 1024x1024 file to the extension target and the update my extension plist file withe a CFBundleIconFile key but no luck either.
It must surely be really easy. What am I missing?

Issue Description
I'm implementing a system audio capture feature using AudioHardwareCreateProcessTap and AudioHardwareCreateAggregateDevice. The app successfully creates the tap and aggregate device, but when starting the IO procedure with AudioDeviceStart, it sometimes fails with OSStatus error 1852797029. (The operation couldn’t be completed. (OSStatus error 1852797029.)) The error occurs inconsistently, which makes it particularly difficult to debug and reproduce.
Questions
Has anyone encountered this intermittent "nope" error code (0x6e6f7065) when working with system audio capture?
Are there specific conditions or system states that might trigger this error sporadically?
Are there any known workarounds for handling this intermittent failure case?

When running this demo, we are getting new text when we have a gap in speaking, the recognitionTask(with:resultHandler:) provides new text which is only spoken after the gap and not the concatenation of old text and the new spoken text.
Hi 👋! We have a SpriteKit-based app where we play AVAudio sounds in three different ways:
Effects (incl. UI sounds) with AVAudioPlayer.
Long looping tracks with AVAudioPlayer.
Short animation effects on the timeline of SpriteKit's SKScene files (effectively SKAudioNode nodes).
We've found that when you exit the app or otherwise interrupt audio plays, future audio plays often fail. For example, there's a WebKit-based video trailer inside the app, and if you play it, our looping background music track (2.) will stop playing, and won't resume as you close the trailer (return from WebKit). This is probably due to us not manually restarting the track (so may well be easily fixed). Periodically played AVAudioPlayer audio (1.) are not affected.
However, the more concerning thing is that the audio tracks on SKScene file timelines (3.) will no longer play. My hypothesis is that AVAudioEngine gets interrupted, and needs to be restarted for those AVAudioNode elements to regain functionality. Thing is, we don't deal with AVAudioEngine at all currently in the app, meaning it is never initiated to begin with.
Obviously things return to normal when you remove the app from short-term memory and restart it. However, it seems many of our users aren't doing this, and often report audio failing presumably due to some interruption in the past without the app ever being cleared from memory.
Any idea why timeline-run SKAudioNodes would fail like this? Should the app react to app backgrounding/foregrounding regarding audio?

I have an app that records a health provider’s conversation with a patient. I am using Audio Queue Services for this. If a phone call comes in while recording, the doctor wants to be able to ignore the call and continue the conversation without touching the phone. If the doctor answers the call, that’s fine – I will stop the recording. I can detect when the call comes in and ends using CXCallObserver and AVAudioSession.interruptionNotification. Unfortunately, when a call comes in and before it is answered or dismissed, the audio is suppressed. After the call is dismissed, the audio continues to be suppressed. How can I continue to get audio from the mic as long as the user does not answer the phone call?

Hello,
I have been running into issues with setting nowPlayingInfo information, specifically updating information for CarPlay and the CPNowPlayingTemplate.
When I start playback for an item, I see lock screen information update as expected, along with the CarPlay now playing information.
However, the playing items are books with collections of tracks. When I select a new track(chapter) within the book, I set the MPMediaItemPropertyTitle to the new chapter name. This change is reflected correctly on the lock screen, but almost never appears correctly on the CarPlay CPNowPlayingTemplate. The previous chapter title remains set and never updates.
I see "Application exceeded audio metadata throttle limit." in the debug console fairly frequently.
From that a I figured that I need to minimize updates to the nowPlayingInfo dictionary. What I did:
I store the metadata dictionary in a local dictionary and only set values in the main nowPlayingInfo dictionary when they are different from the current value.
I kick off the nowPlayingInfo update via a task that initially sleeps for around 2 seconds (not a final value, just for my current testing). If a previous Task is active, it gets cancelled, so that only one update can happen within that time window.
Neither of these things have been sufficient. I can switch between different titles entirely and the information updates (including cover art).
But when I switch chapters within a title, the MPMediaItemPropertyTitle continues to get dropped. I know the value is getting set, because it updates on the lock screen correctly.
In total, I have 12 keys I update for info, though with the above changes, usually 2-4 of them actually get updated with high frequency.
I am running out of ideas to satisfy the throttling thresholds to accurately display metadata. I could use some advice.

ApplicationMusicPlayer is not available on watchOS but all other platforms. Is there a technical reason for that like battery life? Same goes for SystemMusicPlayer and MPMusicPlayerController. I already filed feedbacks for that.

I am trying to remove the audio controls for my app on the lock screen. Since I use WKWebView, there are 3 audio tags in my html and I play and pause em via JS. However, if I do not play any sound since app launch, there are no audio controls on the lock screen. But if I play one of those 3 files (they are even less then 3 Sec sound effects e.g. for buttons) the audio controls appears on lock screen.
Note even when the sounds on pause() or not playing they were listed on the lock screen.
What I have tried so far without success

We're using AVAudioPlayer to play a sound when a button is tapped. In our use case, this button can be tapped very frequently — roughly every 0.1 to 0.2 seconds. Each tap triggers the following function:

The issue is that under high-frequency tapping (especially around 0.1–0.15s intervals), the app occasionally crashes. The crash does not occur every time, but it happens randomly — sometimes within 30 seconds, within 1 minute, or even 3 minutes of continuous tapping.
Interestingly, adding a delay of 0.2 seconds between button taps seems to prevent the crash entirely. Delays shorter than 0.2 seconds (e.g.,0.15s,0.18s) still result in occasional crashes.
My questions are:
**Is this expected behavior from AVAudioPlayer or AVAudioSession?
Could this be a known issue or a limitation in AVFoundation?
Is there any documentation or guidance on handling frequent sound playback safely?**
