In an m3u8 manifest, audio EXT-X-MEDIA tags usually contain CHANNELS tag containing the audio channels count like so:
#EXT-X-MEDIA:TYPE=AUDIO,URI="audio_clear_eng_stereo.m3u8",GROUP-ID="default-audio-group",LANGUAGE="en",NAME="stream_5",AUTOSELECT=YES,CHANNELS="2"
Is it possible to get this info from AVPlayer, AVMediaSelectionOption or some related API?

Hi everyone,
I wanted to bring up a question about Core Audio and its potential for future updates or improvements, specifically regarding latency optimization. As someone who relies on Core Audio for real-time audio processing, any enhancements in this area would be incredibly beneficial for professionals in the industry.
Does anyone know if Apple has shared any plans or updates regarding Core Audio’s performance, particularly for low-latency applications? I’d appreciate any insights or advice from the community!
Thanks so much!
Best,
Michael

I am developing a macOS 15 MediaExtension plugin to enable additional codecs and container formats in AVFoundation
My Plugin is sort of working, but i'd like to debug the XPC process that AVFoundation 'hoists' for me from the calling app (ie - the process hosting my plugin instance that is managing the MESampleBuffer protocol calls for example)
Is there a method to configure XCode for interactive attaching to this background process for interactive debugging?
Right now I have to use Console + Print which is not fun or productive.
Does Apple have a working example of a MediaExtension anywhere?
This is an exciting API that is very under-documented.
I'm willing to spend a Code Review 'credit' for this, but my issues are not quite focused.
Any assistance is highly appreciated!

Hey,
I am fairly new to working with AVFoundation etc. As far as I could research on my own, if I want to get metadata from let's say a .m4a audio file, I have to get the data and then create an AVAsset. My files are all on local servers and therefore I would not be able to just pass in the URL.
The extraction of the metadata works fine - however those AVAssets create a huge overhead in storage consumption. To my knowledge the data instances of each audio file and AVAsset should only live inside the function I call to extract the metadata, however those data/AVAsset instances still live on on storage as I can clearly see that the app's file size increases by multiple Gigabytes (equal to the library size I test with). However, the only data that I purposefully save with SwiftData is the album artwork.
Is this normal behavior for AVAssets or am I missing some detail?
PS. If I forgot to mention something important, please ask. This is my first ever post, so I'm not too sure what is worth mentioning.
Thank you in advance!
Denis

Hello, we have HLS Stream app on Apple TV. Our streams are DRM protected. We have problem with streams when source device is turned off. For example, user start to watch our HLS DRM Protected content. After some time, user turns off device (it can be Monitor or TV via connected HDMI). Our app does not understand HDMI Source device turned off. Is there any way to understand HDMI connected device is turned off on Swift?

I am attempting to do batch Transcription of audio files exported from Voice Memos, and I am running into an interesting issue. If I only transcribe a single file it works every time, but if I try to batch it, only the last one works, and the others fail with No speech detected. I assumed it must be something about concurrency, so I implemented what I think should remove any chance of transcriptions running in parallel. And with a mocked up unit of work, everything looked good. So I added the transcription back in, and
1: It still fails on all but the last file. This happens if I am processing 10 files or just 2.
2: It no longer processes in order, any file can be the last one that succeeds. And it seems to not be related to file size. I have had paragraph sized notes finish last, but also a single short sentence that finishes last.
I left the mocked processFiles() for reference.
Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

I am experiencing an issue while recording audio using AVAudioEngine with the installTap method. I convert the AVAudioPCMBuffer to Data and send it to a UDP server. However, when I receive the Data and play it back, there is continuous crackling noise during playback.
I am sending audio data using this library "https://github.com/mindAndroid/swift-rtp" by creating packet and send it.
Please help me resolve this issue. I have attached the code reference that I am currently using.
Thank you.

The sample code in the Apple documentation found in PHCloudIdentifier does not compile in xCode 13.2.1.
Can the interface for identifier conversion be clarified so that the answer values are more accessible/readable. The values are 'hidden' inside a Result enum
It was difficult (for me) to rewrite the sample code because I made the mistake of interpreting the Result type as a tuple. Result type is really an enum.
Using the Result type as the return from library.cloudIdentifierMappings(forLocalIdentifiers: ) and .localIdentifierMappings(
for: )
puts the actual mapped identifiers inside the the enum where they need additional access via a .stringValue message or an evaluation of an element of the result enum.
For others finding the same compile issue, here is a working version of the sample code. This compiles in xCode 13.2.1.
func localId2CloudId(localIdentifiers: [String]) -> [String] {
var mappedIdentifiers = [String]()
let library = PHPhotoLibrary.shared()
let iCloudIDs = library.cloudIdentifierMappings(forLocalIdentifiers: localIdentifiers)
for aCloudID in iCloudIDs {
let cloudResult: Result = aCloudID.value
// Result is an enum .. not a tuple
switch cloudResult {
case .success(let success):
let newValue = success.stringValue
mappedIdentifiers.append(newValue)
case .failure(let failure):
// do error notify to user
}
}
return mappedIdentifiers
}
``` swift func
func cloudId2LocalId(assetCloudIdentifiers: [PHCloudIdentifier]) -> [String] {
// patterned error handling per documentation
var localIDs = [String]()
let localIdentifiers: [PHCloudIdentifier: Result<String, Error>] = PHPhotoLibrary.shared() .localIdentifierMappings(
for: assetCloudIdentifiers)
for cloudIdentifier in assetCloudIdentifiers {
guard let identifierMapping = localIdentifiers[cloudIdentifier] else {
print("Failed to find a mapping for \(cloudIdentifier).")
continue
}
switch identifierMapping {
case .success(let success):
localIDs.append(success)
case .failure(let failure) :
let thisError = failure as? PHPhotosError
switch thisError?.code {
case .identifierNotFound:
// Skip the missing or deleted assets.
print("Failed to find the local identifier for \(cloudIdentifier). \(String(describing: thisError?.localizedDescription)))")
case .multipleIdentifiersFound:
// Prompt the user to resolve the cloud identifier that matched multiple assets.
print("Found multiple local identifiers for \(cloudIdentifier). \(String(describing: thisError?.localizedDescription))")
// if let selectedLocalIdentifier = promptUserForPotentialReplacement(with: thisError.userInfo[PHLocalIdentifiersErrorKey]) {
// localIDs.append(selectedLocalIdentifier)
default:
print("Encountered an unexpected error looking up the local identifier for \(cloudIdentifier). \(String(describing: thisError?.localizedDescription))")
}
}
}
return localIDs
}
// Here addObserver for routeChangeNotification
// My app is an VoIP app, so I need to set "playAndRecord" and "allowBluetooth"
try? AVAudioSession.sharedInstance().setCategory(.playAndRecord, options: [.duckOthers, .allowBluetooth, .allowBluetoothA2DP])
NotificationCenter.default.addObserver(self, selector: #selector(currentRouteChanged(noti:)), name: AVAudioSession.routeChangeNotification, object: nil)
}
// Print the "availableInputs" once got a notification
@objc func currentRouteChanged(noti: Notification) {
let availableInputs = AVAudioSession.sharedInstance().availableInputs?.compactMap({ $0.portType }) ?? []
let currentRouteInputs = AVAudioSession.sharedInstance().currentRoute.inputs.compactMap({ $0.portType })
let currentRouteOutputs = AVAudioSession.sharedInstance().currentRoute.outputs.compactMap({ $0.portType })
print("willtest: \navailableInputs=\(availableInputs), \ncurrentRouteInputs=\(currentRouteInputs), \ncurrentRouteOutputs=\(currentRouteOutputs)")
/*
When BT (Airpods pro 2) CONNECTTED: it will print like below when notification comes, this is correct.
----------------------------------------------------------
willtest:
availableInputs=[__C.AVAudioSessionPort(_rawValue: MicrophoneBuiltIn), __C.AVAudioSessionPort(_rawValue: BluetoothHFP)],
currentRouteInputs=[],
currentRouteOutputs=[__C.AVAudioSessionPort(_rawValue: BluetoothA2DPOutput)]
----------------------------------------------------------
When BT (Airpods pro 2) DISCONNECTTED: it will print like below when notification comes, this is wrong.
----------------------------------------------------------
availableInputs=[__C.AVAudioSessionPort(_rawValue: MicrophoneBuiltIn), __C.AVAudioSessionPort(_rawValue: BluetoothHFP)],
currentRouteInputs=[],
currentRouteOutputs=[__C.AVAudioSessionPort(_rawValue: Speaker)]
*/
}
So my question here is:
Why does the "availableInputs" still contain the "C.AVAudioSessionPort(_rawValue: BluetoothHFP)" item even though I have already disconnected the BT device? (Put AirPods in the case.)
BTW, if I tap the "Manual" button once I disconnected the BT, it also prints the "wrong" value for "availableInputs", and it will become normal after about 3~4 seconds.
My app is not a VOIP application. I use devices that support character centering, such as iPad 10 or iPad 13.18. The system is iOS 18.0, 18.1, or 18.1.1. When entering live classes, the "Character Centering" button does not appear in the control center, as shown in the following picture. However, if Voice over IP is selected for Background Modes in the project and the app is run again, it will not be reproduced, even if it is uninstalled or reinstalled. Could you please help me investigate the reason? thank you!
Does Phase support creating new sound events at runtime? Is that implemented in the plugin for Unity as well? Does Phase support Unity's addressable system, are they compatible?
It's only occurs on iOS 18+. Backtrace attached below.
Hi,
I am trying to enable the default MIDINetworkSession in a Catalyst app on MacOS like this:
MIDINetworkSession.default().isEnabled = true
MIDINetworkSession.default().connectionPolicy = .anyone
In the AppSandbox I have both incoming and outgoing network connections enabled. And I also added the NSLocalNetworkUsageDescription key to the info.plist. Bonjour services are also added to the info.plist:
NSBonjourServices
_apple-midi._udp.
Nevertheless the session stays disabled. Running the same code works just fine on iOS.
Is there any special setup I need to make on MacOS to enable the MIDINetworkSession?
Thanks!
Hello,
I have a CarPlay Navigation app and utilize the AVSpeechSynthesizer to speak directions to a user. Everything works great on my CarPlay simulator as well as when plugged into my GMC truck. However, I found out yesterday that one of my users with a Ford truck the audio would cut in an out.
After much troubleshooting, I was able to replicate this on my own truck when using Bluetooth to connect to CarPlay. My user was also utilizing Bluetooth. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a fix to the problem?
I am a developer working on iOS apps.
In the demo, I planned to replace the local images with Heic format instead of PNG format, but the actual test results showed abnormalities on this device, while the other test devices displayed normally
Heic images are converted by the built-in image conversion function on Mac. I tested multiple Heic images, but none of them were displayed and the image information returned nil,,but PNG images can be displayed normally.
