Extension in Safari Fails Auth in Non-Default Profile When Using Cookie-Based Mechanism
Hello, We are developing a Safari Web Extension that uses a cookie-based authentication mechanism. The extension makes a request to an endpoint e.g. /login, and this endpoint expects a cookie (e.g., sessionId) to be included with the request. Everything works correctly when running in the default Safari profile. However, when I install and run the same extension in a new, non-default profile, the behaviour changes: The request to /login is still made The cookie sent is not as expected As a result, the response returns null user data I confirmed that logging into the site in the new profile (in a tab) works, but the extension does not appear to share the session/cookie state with the login tab We’ve tried explicitly setting "credentials": "include" in the request but that still didn’t share the cookie in the extension context in the non-default profile. My questions: Is there away to allow cookie-based session sharing between a tab and an extension in non-default profiles in safari? Would switching to a token-based auth mechanism (e.g., Bearer tokens ) be the recommended workaround? I’d appreciate any insights or guidance from those who’ve run into similar issues.
 Thanks in advance!

Details of SFExtensionProfileKey?
Hi, I’m working with the SFExtensionProfileKey in my Safari Web Extension. As I understand it, this key is to get the UUID of the profile currently in use. However, it seems to be missing (no key in userInfo) when the default profile is active. Also, I haven’t found any API to get a profile’s human-readable name or list all available profiles. Could someone clarify: If the value of SFExtensionProfileKey is absent, can I safely assume the default profile is in use? Is there a supported way to get a profile’s display name? Does Safari expose an API for getting all profiles? Thanks in advance for your insights!

Safari drag multi-tasking gesture not working for Safari on iPad Pro M1
Bit of an odd one here, just keen to understand if it’s just me or a more generic issue. For all other apps, I can drag the icon from the dock to place into stage manager left, centre or right. However when I try to do the same with Safari (and only Safari), it just doesn’t work at all. I can repeat this 100%, has been an issue with 26.0, 26.1 and now 26.2. Can confirm this isn’t a problem on my 11” M4 iPad pro running same O/S. Here is a video showing the issue (YouTube) https://youtu.be/0WBGBZVHsfs

Can I use allowFileAccessFromFileURLs to access local html file in my Project and not get appStorereview
We are currently implementing the payment flow, and for handling payment details — including card entry and validation — we are utilizing a WKWebView. The webview securely loads the payment provider’s page, ensuring sensitive information such as card numbers are entered and validated directly within the web context. I’d like to clarify that this change has not yet been released to Production. As part of a feature enhancement to our existing payment flow, we are transitioning to a new payment vendor, SnapPay. While trying to load the SnapPay URL embedded within an iFrame in our iOS app, I observed the following error in the Xcode console. While this error may be generic, I wanted to highlight it: 825a18 - [pageProxyID=7, webPageID=8, PID=67346] WebPageProxy::didFailLoadForFrame: frameID=24, isMainFrame=0, domain=NSURLErrorDomain, code=-999 Upon investigating, we compared the headers from our existing payment URL and SnapPay's URL, and found that SnapPay includes the following Content-Security-Policy (CSP) header: Content-Security-Policy: frame-ancestors ... "Content-Security-Policy" value="default-src 'self'; script-src 'self' https://hcaptcha.com https://.hcaptcha.com https://code.jquery.com https://www.gstatic.com https://code.jquery.com/jquery-3.3.1.min.js https://test.lightbox.cardx.com/v1/lightbox.min.js https://www.ssa.gov/accessibility/andi/ https://c.evidon.com 'unsafe-inline' 'unsafe-eval'; style-src 'self' https://hcaptcha.com https://.hcaptcha.com https://fonts.googleapis.com/css https://stage.snappayglobal.com/Resource/ https://www.ssa.gov/accessibility/andi/andi.css 'unsafe-inline'; img-src 'self' data: https:; font-src 'self' *.googleapis.com *.gstatic.com ; connect-src 'self' https://demo1.cditechnology.com https:; form-action https://hcaptcha.com https: 'self' *.ipg-online.com secure.bluepay.com https://test.api.lightbox.cardx.com https://3ds-acs.test.modirum.com/ https://demo1.cditechnology.com/; frame-ancestors https://snappaydirect-perf.fiserv.com 'self' file: https: http; frame-src .snappayglobal.com 'self' https://hcaptcha.com https://.hcaptcha.com https: https://www.google.com .ipg-online.com secure.bluepay.com https://.cardconnect.com https://test.api.lightbox.cardx.com/ https://test.lightbox.cardx.com https://paywithcardx.com/payment/auth.cgi securepayments.cardpointe.com *.cardpointe.com https://3ds-acs.test.modirum.com/ https://www.yokohamatire.com http://uat1-txt.ad.portal.texas.gov https://uat1-txt.ad.portal.texas.gov " After multiple working sessions with the SnapPay team, we were able to confirm that when they disable CSP or remove the frame-ancestors directive, the iFrame loads successfully within our app. However, SnapPay cannot change on their CSP. To enable the iFrame to load in the iOS app, we added the following line of code: webView.configuration.preferences.setValue(true, forKey: "allowFileAccessFromFileURLs"). This resolved the issue with loading the iFrame. Note: the file being loaded is a local .html file,. Before submitting this update to the App Store, I’d like to confirm whether this usage of allowFileAccessFromFileURLs is acceptable for App Store review. I wanted to confirm that with this change is there a security concern for WKWebview?

Please Help: WKwebview not allowing background audio playback
I’ve been working on a personal iOS project for fun — essentially a YouTube music player, learning how background media playback works in native iOS apps. After seeing that Musi (a famous music streaming app) can play YouTube audio in the background with the screen off — I got really curious. I’ve been trying to replicate that basic background audio functionality for YouTube embeds using WKWebView. I've spent a crazy amount of time (probably 20 hours) trying to figure this out but have achieved no success. Here’s what I’ve tried so far: -Embedding a YouTube video in a WKWebView -Activating AVAudioSession with .playback and setting .setActive(true) -Adding the UIBackgroundModes key with audio in Info.plist -Adding the NSAppTransportSecurity key to allow arbitrary loads --Testing on a real device (iPhone 14, iOS 18.1 target)-- What happens: Audio plays fine in the foreground. If I exit the app and go to the lock screen quickly enough (less than 3 seconds) after pressing play, I can resume playback briefly from the lock screen — but it doesn’t automatically continue like in Musi and other apps like it. Most of the time, the audio stops when the app is backgrounded. I get this error consistently in the logs: Error acquiring assertion: <Error Domain=RBSServiceErrorDomain Code=1 "(originator doesn't have entitlement com.apple.runningboard.assertions.webkit AND originator doesn't have entitlement com.apple.multitasking.systemappassertions)" It seems like the app lacks some specific entitlements related to WebKit media playback. I don’t have AppDelegate/SceneDelegate (using SwiftUI), but can add if needed. I’m super curious how music streaming apps using youtube as a source get around this — are they doing something different under the hood? A custom player? A SafariViewController trick? Is there a specific way to configure WKWebView to keep playing in the background, or is this a known limitation? Would really appreciate any insight from folks who’ve explored this before or know how apps like Musi pulled it off. Thanks in advance!

WebKit https post return html use javascript send WebSocket Request
In my application, I use HTML pages to display the interface. Since it’s a cross-platform app, the pages and interactions work properly on other platforms. However, in WebKit, because HTTPS protocol is used, JS requests from the page cannot use the ws protocol but must use the wss protocol under HTTPS. Is there any way to allow a webpage under HTTPS to use ws requests normally? Google Chrome can do this.

Safari Flags My Rebuilt Site as Deceptive — Need Review / Whitelisting
Hi Apple Devs & WebKit Team, We operate https://excnum.com — a personal website currently under reconstruction. It's HTTPS-secure, hosted on a clean VPS, and now features a simple placeholder page with no active forms, scripts, or external redirects. However, Safari on both iOS and macOS is flagging it as a “deceptive website”, blocking all access. This warning appears even though: The site uses a valid SSL certificate via Cloudflare There are no redirects, tracking scripts, or dynamic code We serve a static landing page (“under maintenance”) with zero interaction No malware, phishing, or obfuscation exists — verified with multiple tools A review request has already been submitted at: https://websitereview.apple.com We believe the site may have been blacklisted previously under past ownership or prior configurations. It has since been completely restructured and cleared, but the Safari warning persists. This false flag is harming visibility and trust for an otherwise neutral website. Any advice on how to expedite re-evaluation or request a manual delisting from the deceptive site list would be much appreciated. Thank you! — Alex Admin, EXCNUM.COM

Tracking playback events from Apple Podcasts iframe in AEM
Hi everyone, I’m working on a web project developed on Adobe Experience Manager (AEM), where we’ve built a custom component that embeds Apple Podcasts episodes using the official iframe provided via https://embed.podcasts.apple.com. Everything works correctly from a rendering point of view, but we are now exploring ways to track user interactions with the embedded player, specifically events such as: start, play, pause, progress milestones (e.g. 25%, 50%, etc.). This data would be used to send analytics events to Adobe Analytics. So far, we haven’t found any documentation or JavaScript API that would allow us to listen to these events. We'd like to ask: Is there any official way to track playback events from an Apple Podcasts iframe? Any information, clarification, or direction would be really appreciated. Thanks in advance! Thanks, Adriana

How to enter Picture-in-Picture on background from inline playback in WKWebView
I'm building a Capacitor iOS app with a plain <video> element playing an MP4 file inline. I want Picture-in-Picture to activate automatically when the user goes home — swipe up from the bottom edge of the screen (on an iPhone with Face ID) or press the Home button (on an iPhone with a Home button). Fullscreen → background works perfectly — iOS automatically enters Picture-in-Picture. But I need this to work from inline playback without requiring the user to enter fullscreen first. Setup <video id="video" playsinline autopictureinpicture controls src="http://podcasts.apple.com/resources/462787156.mp4"> </video> // AppDelegate.swift let audioSession = AVAudioSession.sharedInstance() try? audioSession.setCategory(.playback, mode: .moviePlayback) try? audioSession.setActive(true) UIBackgroundModes: audio in Info.plist allowsPictureInPictureMediaPlayback is true (Apple default) iOS 26.3.1, WKWebView via Capacitor What I've tried 1. autopictureinpicture attribute <video playsinline autopictureinpicture ...> WKWebView doesn't honor this attribute from inline playback. It only works when transitioning from fullscreen. 2. requestPictureInPicture() on visibilitychange document.addEventListener('visibilitychange', () => { if (document.visibilityState === 'hidden' && !video.paused) { video.requestPictureInPicture(); } }); Result: Fails with "not triggered by user activation". The visibilitychange event doesn't count as a user gesture. 3. webkitSetPresentationMode('picture-in-picture') on visibilitychange document.addEventListener('visibilitychange', () => { if (document.visibilityState === 'hidden' && !video.paused) { video.webkitSetPresentationMode('picture-in-picture'); } }); Result: No error thrown. The webkitpresentationmodechanged event fires with value picture-in-picture. But the PIP window never actually appears. The API silently accepts the call but nothing renders. 4. await play() then webkitSetPresentationMode document.addEventListener('visibilitychange', async () => { if (document.visibilityState === 'hidden') { await video.play(); video.webkitSetPresentationMode('picture-in-picture'); } }); Result: play() succeeds (audio resumes in background), but PIP still doesn't open. 5. Auto-resume on system pause + PIP on visibilitychange iOS fires pause before visibilitychange when backgrounding. I tried resuming in the pause handler, then requesting PIP in visibilitychange: video.addEventListener('pause', () => { if (document.visibilityState === 'hidden') { video.play(); // auto-resume } }); document.addEventListener('visibilitychange', () => { if (document.visibilityState === 'hidden' && !video.paused) { video.webkitSetPresentationMode('picture-in-picture'); } }); Result: Audio resumes successfully, but PIP still doesn't open. 6. Native JS eval from applicationDidEnterBackground func applicationDidEnterBackground(_ application: UIApplication) { webView?.evaluateJavaScript( "document.querySelector('video').requestPictureInPicture()" ) } Result: Same failure — no user activation context. Observations The event order on background is: pause → visibility: hidden webkitSetPresentationMode reports success (event fires, no error) but the PIP window never renders requestPictureInPicture() consistently requires user activation, even from native JS eval Audio can be resumed in background via play(), but PIP is a separate gate Fullscreen → background automatically enters Picture-in-Picture, confirming the WKWebView PIP infrastructure is functional Question Is there any way to programmatically enter PIP from inline playback when a WKWebView app goes to background? Or is this intentionally restricted by WebKit to fullscreen-only transitions? Any pointers appreciated. Thanks!

Issue sending web push notification to iOS
Hello all, I'm building a web application in ASP.NET MVC (.NET Framework 4.7.2), from this web app I need to send push notifications to users. For the ones who are logged in with windows/android, everything works as expected, but I can't manage to get it work on the apple side. If I use the same methods to subscribe to push notifications, it shows me the popup that asks the user to enable push notifications, and then I get an endpoint like this: https://web.push.apple.com/QKC1Muic0H7... It doesn't work using this (taking the part after https://web.push.apple.com/), I keep getting "Bad device token" (trying to send the notification via APNS). Then I found out that there is another method to register the device from the frontend, and this one should give me the real device token: window.safari.pushNotification.requestPermission But this one doesn't show me the popup, it gives me "denied" without a reason. I'm trying to a test application which is here https://pwa.vctplanner.it, the web push id is web.it.vctplanner, I created a push package downloadable from POST https://pwa.vctplanner.it/api/v2/PushPackages/web.it.vctplanner, and the code from the frontend is this: function registerSafariPush() { // Controlla se Safari Push Notifications è disponibile if (!('safari' in window) || !('pushNotification' in window.safari)) { console.log("Safari Push Notifications non supportate su questo browser."); return; } // Il tuo Website Push ID registrato su Apple Developer var websitePushId = "web.it.vctplanner"; // Controlla lo stato della permission var permissionData = window.safari.pushNotification.permission(websitePushId); switch (permissionData.permission) { case 'default': // L'utente non ha ancora deciso window.safari.pushNotification.requestPermission( 'https://pwa.vctplanner.it', // URL del server che serve il Push Package websitePushId, {}, // dati opzionali da inviare al server function (permission) { if (permission.permission === 'granted') { console.log("Notifiche push abilitate!"); sendSubscriptionToServer({ endpoint: permission.deviceToken }); } else { console.log("Notifiche push non abilitate dall'utente."); } } ); break; case 'denied': // L'utente ha negato console.log("Notifiche push negate."); break; case 'granted': // L'utente ha già autorizzato console.log("Notifiche push già autorizzate."); sendSubscriptionToServer({ endpoint: permissionData.deviceToken }); break; } } Any suggestions of what I'm missing? Is there a complete guide to how generate the push package? Thank you

Is the branded email feature available in France? What is the timeline?
Hello, I followed the instructions to set up a custom logo for our domain name Allogarage.fr, both for the brand and the domain. Everything appears to be correctly configured in Apple Business backend for several weeks now, but the logo still doesn’t show up in Mail. Is the branded email feature available in France? Are there any additional steps required?

I have an iOS app that generates and renders a custom HTML document inside a UIWebView. After updating a device to iOS 26, the same HTML is rendered with noticeably smaller fonts compared to previous iOS versions. No code or HTML changes were made. Context HTML is generated dynamically and rendered in a UIWebView The HTML is embedded inside a custom XML wrapper The issue happens only on iOS 26 Earlier iOS versions render the font size correctly

Notify web extension native process of user default changes
My Mac app and its Safari web extension share an app group, and I want to notify the web extension native process when the app makes a change to the app group NSUserDefaults, but I can't find a good way to do this. According to the documentation, "You can use key-value observing to register observers for specific keys of interest in order to be notified of all updates, regardless of whether changes are made within or outside the current process." In my testing, however, this doesn't work in the web extension process. I'm using NSUserDefaults addObserver forKeyPath, but observeValueForKeyPath never gets called. I've also tried NSDistributedNotificationCenter, but the web extension process doesn't receive the notifications sent by the main app. Are either of these supposed to work? If not, are there any alternatives?

Are there any additional steps required?

iOS 26 WKWebView renders same HTML with smaller font size [closed]
I have an iOS app that generates and renders a custom HTML document inside a UIWebView. After updating a device to iOS 26, the same HTML is rendered with noticeably smaller fonts compared to previous iOS versions. No code or HTML changes were made. Context HTML is generated dynamically and rendered in a UIWebView The HTML is embedded inside a custom XML wrapper The issue happens only on iOS 26 Earlier iOS versions render the font size correctly

Is there any supported mechanism in Safari Web Extensions (MV3) for capturing or logging network request data (like fetch, XHR, or webRequest) triggered by the web page?

iOS 26 - WebKit in SwiftUI - Handle Downloads
Hello there, back in the old WebKit API there was the WKDownloadDelegate to handle download actions in WebViews. I was wondering how to handle download actions within the new WebKit in SwiftUI. Is there anything to use already or are there workarounds to handle downloads? Greetings, Thorben
