My Mac app and its Safari web extension share an app group, and I want to notify the web extension native process when the app makes a change to the app group NSUserDefaults, but I can't find a good way to do this.
According to the documentation, "You can use key-value observing to register observers for specific keys of interest in order to be notified of all updates, regardless of whether changes are made within or outside the current process." In my testing, however, this doesn't work in the web extension process. I'm using NSUserDefaults addObserver forKeyPath, but observeValueForKeyPath never gets called.
I've also tried NSDistributedNotificationCenter, but the web extension process doesn't receive the notifications sent by the main app.
Are either of these supposed to work? If not, are there any alternatives?

I'm building a macOS Google Chrome extension.
I need to be able to send messages from the Chrome extension to the macOS app
What's the set up flow?
I've heard about native messaging, but I struggle to implement it.
I've heard about XPC, but not sure JS can send messages to a macOS XPC service.
Hi folks!! Anyone here experienced issues with video not showing up in webview?
I have a simple index.html with a video tag but its doesn't load why?
Hello,
We are developing a Safari Web Extension that uses a cookie-based authentication mechanism. The extension makes a request to an endpoint e.g. /login, and this endpoint expects a cookie (e.g., sessionId) to be included with the request. Everything works correctly when running in the default Safari profile.
However, when I install and run the same extension in a new, non-default profile, the behaviour changes:
The request to /login is still made
The cookie sent is not as expected
As a result, the response returns null user data
I confirmed that logging into the site in the new profile (in a tab) works, but the extension does not appear to share the session/cookie state with the login tab
We’ve tried explicitly setting "credentials": "include" in the request but that still didn’t share the cookie in the extension context in the non-default profile.
My questions:
Is there away to allow cookie-based session sharing between a tab and an extension in non-default profiles in safari?
Would switching to a token-based auth mechanism (e.g., Bearer tokens ) be the recommended workaround?
I’d appreciate any insights or guidance from those who’ve run into similar issues.
Thanks in advance!

When a DNR rule is set for a specific URL and the request receives a server-side redirect (e.g., 302) to a different URL that does not match the urlFilter, the rule still seems to apply to the redirected request. We are using macOS 15.4 and Safari 18.4.
For example, consider two sequential calls: call1 and call2.
call1 triggers a 302 redirect to call2.
A DNR rule is created to add a "Cookie" header to call1 based on its URL.
Unexpectedly, the same cookie is also added to call2, even though call2's URL does not match the rule's urlFilter.
This results in the Set-Cookie response from call1 being ignored, and call2 receiving the manually set cookie instead—leading to incorrect behavior.
This issue doesn't occur in Chrome or Firefox, where the rule is not applied to the redirected request if the URL no longer matches.
We are looking for assistance in fixing these issues and having our Safari Extension function the same as it does in Firefox and Chrome.
Apple must comply with the requirements of the Level Index, the global digital credit gateway, and suspend gift cards and similar services until formal arrangements are made with service providers.
Hi all,
Question:
Can Apple confirm that, on macOS 15 without MDM/supervision, there is no supported API, entitlement, auth right, or config file that can enable a Safari App Extension without some form of user interaction?
Environment
• OS / Safari: macOS 15.0.1 (Sequoia), Safari 18.x
• Distribution: Signed, notarized, stapled PKG installs a host app that contains a Safari App Extension
• Management: No MDM allowed (and thus no supervision)
• Goal: Have the extension come up enabled immediately after install, without requiring the user to click the checkbox in Safari Settings ▸ Extensions
What we already know / tried
Normal install flow – After PKG install, the extension shows up disabled. User must check the box to enable.
SFSafariApplication.showPreferencesForExtension(...) – We can deep‑link the user to our row, but they still need to click “Enable.”
Accessibility/UI scripting – We can script the click if the user grants our helper Accessibility permission. That still involves user interaction.
.mobileconfig with Safari Extensions Management (AlwaysOn) – From what I can tell, this requires a supervised device enrolled in MDM. Installing that profile manually on an unsupervised Mac does not enforce the “AlwaysOn” state.
Auth rights / Developer mode – Looked at auth.db rights like com.apple.Safari.allow-unsigned-app-extensions, and the Develop menu “Allow Unsigned Extensions.” Neither appears to auto‑enable a signed extension, and we don’t want to use private/unsupported APIs anyway.
Thanks in advance for any clarification.

Push Notification Issue in iOS PWA App
We’ve been trying to implement push notifications in our iOS app, which is a wrapper around a Vite PWA built using PWA Builder. Here's a detailed overview of the issues we’re facing:
Problem Summary
We originally had a working Vite PWA and used Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) for push notifications. When converting this PWA to an iOS app using PWA Builder:
The notification permission prompt did not behave as expected in Safari.
Even after requesting permission via a user gesture (e.g., button press), FCM token was not received.
On Safari (both Mac and Windows), permission sometimes works, but the token isn’t saved until Safari is closed and reopened.
In the iOS PWA app, the FCM token never gets retrieved.
We tried the same process on Chrome, and everything works flawlessly there.
What We’ve Tried
Wrapped the permission request and FCM token logic in a user gesture (e.g., button click), as recommended.
Confirmed our manifest includes all necessary fields (see below).
Tested across macOS, Windows, Safari (desktop), and the iOS app.
Manifest.json

Core Logic (Plain TypeScript)
1. Request Notification Permission + FCM Token
async function handleRequestPermission(): Promise<string | null> {
try {
console.log("Requesting notification permission...");
const permission = await Notification.requestPermission();
console.log("Notification permission result:", permission);
if (permission === "denied") {
console.error("Notification permission was denied.");
return null;
}
const token = await requestFCMToken();
console.log("FCM Token:", token);
if (token) {
console.log("Notification setup successful.");
return token;
} else {
console.error("Failed to retrieve FCM token.");
return null;
}
} catch (error) {
console.error("Error requesting FCM token:", error);
return null;
}
}
2. FCM Token Logic
async function requestFCMToken(): Promise<string | undefined> {
try {
let permission = Notification.permission;
if (permission === "default") {
console.log("Requesting notification permission...");
permission = await Notification.requestPermission();
}
if (permission === "granted") {
console.log("Notification permission granted.");
const isSupportedBrowser = await isSupported();
if (!isSupportedBrowser) {
console.error("This browser does not support FCM.");
return;
}
const registration = await navigator.serviceWorker.register("/firebase-messaging-sw.js");
console.log("Service Worker registered:", registration);
const token = await getToken(cloudMessaging, {
vapidKey: "YOUR_PUBLIC_VAPID_KEY_HERE",
serviceWorkerRegistration: registration,
});
if (token) {
console.log("FCM Token:", token);
localStorage.setItem("fcmToken", token);
return token;
} else {
console.warn("No registration token available. Request permission to generate one.");
return;
}
} else if (permission === "denied") {
console.warn("Permission to notify was denied.");
return;
} else {
console.warn("Notification permission not granted.");
return;
}
} catch (error) {
console.error("Error getting FCM token:", error);
return;
}
}
Request for Help
We’d really appreciate support from anyone who’s successfully implemented FCM push notifications in a Vite PWA wrapped as an iOS app using PWA Builder.
Is there something we’re missing about how iOS Safari handles push permissions in PWA mode?
Could there be an issue with the service worker or the manifest setup that causes the token not to register?
Any Safari-specific quirks to be aware of?
Thanks in advance!

After upgrade to ios 26,
if WKWebView load url which did not contain "#" will always ok.
but load url contain “#” will cancel when start load, then result in white screen
WebAuthn can be used in Safari, but when using it with WKWebView, you need to set the default browser definition (com.apple.developer.web-browser). Is this correct?
Also, is it possible that the terms of use will change or that it will no longer be available in WKWebView in the future?

After the first installation (out of AppStore) of the extension in the browser, the content script is correctly inserted into the page (twice for some reason) and a message is sent from the root of the content script to the background script, which responds correctly.
However, if an event handler is registered within the content script, within which the message is also sent to the background script, it will never reach the background script.
window.addEventListener("message", function (event) {
// We only accept messages from ourselves
if (event.source !== window) {
return;
}
if (event.data.source && event.data.source === appIdentification) {
browser.runtime.sendMessage(event.data);
}
}, false);
It does not matter with what delay the event handler is called (i.e. the background script is not asleep). If I refresh the page or close and reopen the browser and reload the page, everything works correctly and the message sent from the event handler is already delivered to the background script.
The event handler is used so that the extension code is uniform for all browsers (Chrome, Safari, Edge, Opera, Firefox), i.e. it is not intended to use externally_connectable for sending messages from the webpage directly to the background script, which Safari should support. The expected behavior is that the extension will work even after the first installation, as is the case with other browsers.
Procedure:
Enter the test website: https://www.mssf.cz/testapp/check_client.aspx
Do the initial installation of the extension (could be downloaded from here: https://1drv.ms/f/c/76f4c93826df41a0/Ej5MQX9ctyhHv_P9_t_6uAwB05ET-nzXuMhPeu56nOgkWg?e=cudqRJ)
Set a breakpoint in the event handler for "message" within the content script, open the background script and set a breakpoint in the event handler for onMessage
Click on the "Validate certificate" button on the page loaded in point 1
Step through the content script to the point where the message is sent to the background script, the breakpoint within the background script is never hit, which is an error, the message should come to the background script
I'm developing an application that makes use of a WebView. When resuming the app I occasionally run into an issue where the application just shows as a blank page. In the Console.app I see a stack trace, however the details are hidden (see below).
The stack trace is thrown from JavaScriptCore.

This is generated in the onvalidatemerchant event handler, and passed into session.completeMerchantValidation.
Using a sandbox account with linked cards, the next thing that happens is a "payment not completed" message in the ApplePay popup on the page, and the oncancel event is hit
Inspecting the event, I don't see anything that hints at the issue. There is a sessionError object, but its code is "unknown" and the info object is empty.
正文:大家好,
当设备连接到没有互联网的 Wi-Fi SSID(例如,硬件设备的 AP)时,我看到 NSURLSession(multipathServiceType = NSURLSessionMultipathServiceTypeInteractive)和 WKWebView 之间的行为存在令人费解的差异。
我使用 C API nw_path_monitor来监视nw_path_status_satisfied。

Hello Apple App Review Team,
We are using Privy to enable sign in with Farcaster in our app. Privy is a 3rd party authentication SDK, and it currently opens the authentication URL using the system browser.
Unfortunately, this behavior is handled internally by Privy and we do not have access or control to override it in order to present the sign-in flow in-app using SFSafariViewController.
We understand the importance of maintaining a seamless and secure user experience, and we fully support the use of SFSafariViewController or ASWebAuthenticationSession. However, since Privy does not expose an option to change this behavior at the moment, we are limited by their current implementation.
We have reached out to the Privy team requesting a change or improvement that would allow us to use SFSafariViewController instead of the external browser. In the meantime, we would appreciate your guidance on how to proceed, or whether an exception could be granted due to this 3rd party SDK limitation.
Thank you for your understanding and support.
Hello there,
For a video like this <video src="blob:safari-web-extension://***" autoplay="" loop="" style="position: absolute; top: 0px; left: 0px; width: 100%; height: 100%; object-fit: cover; z-index: -1;"></video>, no matter if its local or remote, blob or mp4 files, is constantly being reloaded (refetched? revalidated?) if the loop tag is added. I can confirm there is actual constant traffic from the server based on my server logs. I am running iOS/macOS 26.
