First Time Coding
Hey, I was hoping some of you guys could give me some links to somewhere which would help me learn to code with Swift. This is my first time coding, so I have no background experience at all.I have basically thought of an app idea, and I need to learn how to set up a link in the app so that the user would be able to call someone just by pressing a button in the app. If any of you woukd be able to give me any tips, any help at all would be appreciated.By the way, the app is for an iOS. In the future, I also plan on developing the app for watchOS.Thanks,Luke.By the wy, the app is for an iPhone 6, if that makes a difference.

Rootless 10.11: Ruby Gem Executables
Hi,This is more of a heads-up for anybody concerned with installing executables via Ruby Gems...El Capitan has changed the Gem environment so that executables are no longer placed in `/usr/bin` -- as was the default in legacy OS X.bash-3.2# gem env RubyGems Environment: - RUBYGEMS VERSION: 2.0.14 - RUBY VERSION: 2.0.0 (2015-04-13 patchlevel 645) [universal.x86_64-darwin15] - INSTALLATION DIRECTORY: /Library/Ruby/Gems/2.0.0 - RUBY EXECUTABLE: /System/Library/Frameworks/Ruby.framework/Versions/2.0/usr/bin/ruby - EXECUTABLE DIRECTORY: /Library/Ruby/bin - RUBYGEMS PLATFORMS: - ruby - universal-darwin-15 - GEM PATHS: - /Library/Ruby/Gems/2.0.0 - /Users/foo/.gem/ruby/2.0.0 - /System/Library/Frameworks/Ruby.framework/Versions/2.0/usr/lib/ruby/gems/2.0.0 - GEM CONFIGURATION: - :update_sources => true - :verbose => true - :backtrace => false - :bulk_threshold => 1000 - REMOTE SOURCES: - https://rubygems.org/As you can see, the new path being used for executables is `/Library/Ruby/bin`The most like

Request temporary one-time exemption to 64-bit deadline?
A client of ours finished QA testing an app update a week late and missed the cutoff for 32-bit support. The app is built on an old framework that is tightly integrated with libraries only built for 32-bit. We are fully aware that this stale code will need to be updated, but this update has already taken much more development time than anticipated, so we would like to make it available as soon as possible. Is there any process for requesting a one-time exemption to avoid delaying App Store submission any longer?

Moving function pointer code to Swift 2
My sqlite code doesn't compile anymore in Swift 2. The problem lines are this:let SQLITE_STATIC = sqlite3_destructor_type(COpaquePointer(bitPattern: 0)) let SQLITE_TRANSIENT = sqlite3_destructor_type(COpaquePointer(bitPattern: -1))Command clicking to Swift's import of sqlite shows this:typealias sqlite3_destructor_type = (UnsafeMutablePointer<Void>) -> VoidComing from the following in sqlite3.h:typedef void (*sqlite3_destructor_type)(void*); #define SQLITE_STATIC ((sqlite3_destructor_type)0) #define SQLITE_TRANSIENT ((sqlite3_destructor_type)-1)Anyone know how to create those two constants in Swift 2.0? Even better if there's some way to import sqlite in Swift 2 without this bridging header stuff.Rob

OpenSSL headers
I've been trying to build my code under 10.11 and Xcode7 and it's failing as it's unable to find the OpenSSL headers, it seems that these are no longer included. Am I going to have to bundle my own version of OpenSSL going forward?

Why does the following code work?
Can sombody tell me why the following code works? I know that it does. Specifically, look at the 'dict' variable. It is used in the fast itteration for loop. But wait, it's also used within the completionHandler block of code, but it doesn't have a __block specifier. Why does this work? __block NSMutableArray *dumArray = [NSMutableArray arrayWithCapacity:3]; for (NSDictionary *dict in self.stuffArray) { NSURL *url = [NSURL URLWithString:urlString]; NSMutableURLRequest *request = [NSMutableURLRequest requestWithURL:url]; request.timeoutInterval = kTimeoutInterval; [NSURLConnection sendAsynchronousRequest:request queue:[NSOperationQueue mainQueue] completionHandler:^(NSURLResponse *response, NSData *data, NSError *connectionError) { if (data.length > 0 && connectionError == nil) { NSDictionary *message = [NSJSONSerialization JSONObjectWithData:data options:0 error:NULL]; NSDictionary *daDict = [message objectForKey:@result]; NSString *theInfo = daDict objectForKey:@“stuff”]

Reply to Request temporary one-time exemption to 64-bit deadline?
There's exactly one thing you can do:1. Submit your application, and appeal the rejection if you're rejected for not having 64-bit code. It's anyone's guess whether your appeal will be successful, but that's really the only thing you can do.If the application submission process automatically rejects your app, then you're completely out of luck and you're just going to have to do whatever you have to do.

NSOpenPanel resolves symbolic links
I've started a discussion https://devforums.apple.com/message/1138585 in the old forums, but I can't reply there anymore.I'm still not satisfied with the answer, because the terminology of file and path choosing API seems off. When I select a file, I have to traverse a path, and the directories belong to a path. A filename by itself is useless and NSOpenPanel returns the directory and filename, which is a path. So in any case, a path is returned, either if a directory or a filename is chosen. But my problem is that NSOpenPanel returns a path which I have not selected, thus I think that this is a bug. It might be possible that my example was not understood, so I will re-phrase the example:I have a directory /usr/local/mongodb-osx-x86_64-3.0.3/bin and there is a linkln -s /usr/local/mongodb-osx-x86_64-3.0.3 /usr/local/mongodbNow I select/usr/local/mongodb/bin/mongodbut NSOpenPanel returns:/usr/local/mongodb-osx-x86_64-3.0.3/bin/mongodPlease note that I have set [panel setResolvesAliases:NO];So how can I

Reply to Watch OS 2 Beta
They won't be able to help you in the Apple Store since this is beta software. I recommend contacting Apple Developer Program Support via this form https://developer.apple.com/contact/submit.php . They should sort things out and get you to the right department.

Reply to Waiting for moderation of my last question, it's 9 hours ago now.
I've just rewritten and reposted the above mentioned question, and that question is now both(!) in Draft and visible in this Swift space, at least for me, can everyone see this: https://forums.developer.apple.com/thread/3909or can only I see it? Because that question also has the same warning message above it that says it can't be posted until someone approves it.

Bitcode and Assembly?
I work for a third party library vendor and we are pretty sure our customers will ask us for a Bitcode version of our library. We are very performance sensitive though, and we've optimized critical sections of our library in NEON assembly. When we compile to LLVM bitcode, we are assuming that NEON assembly will be encapsulated. Is that correct? We're also worried about writing code in assembly though. Bitcode seems to leave open the possibility that our application could end up running on a platform who's capabilities we did not optimize for in advance. It seems like it might be a good idea to make sure our software paths are working well. Would it also be a good idea to attempt to drop out of NEON directly and use the LLVM SIMD intrinsics? I believe Accelerate was also tried and found to be too high level for our stuff. We're also multiplatform.
