Many of my company's desktop applications support a method of deploying custom configurations if they're stored in the same directory as the installer to make deployments for smaller scale environments easier for system administrators. During install time, the installer looks for a particular file and copies it into place if it is there. As of Big Sur, however, we receive a new Operation not permitted when attempting to copy the file if the installer and the custom config are within a user account directory (e.g., /Users/<user>/Downloads). Example command that's reporting this error: install -o root -g wheel -m 0444 /Users/aUser/Desktop/my-custom-config.json /Library/Preferences/MyApp/my-custom-config.json This error doesn't occur if they're stored in a less protected area, like /Users/Shared. My suspicion is Big Sur has introduced a new protection against the installer scripts being able to access that location, but historically that's usually when a variation of the

In the release notes for Big Sur b4, we can find the same note as for b4: Updating to macOS Big Sur 11 beta from previous versions of macOS might take significantly longer than expected. What does significantly longer mean? 10 minutes ? 30 minutes ? 2 hours? From what I'm observing, updating from b3 to b4 is a bad as updating from b2 to b3. The Preparing macOS Big Sur beta X… step is taking an eternity to complete while the fans are spinning crazily. No processes are reported to use a lot of CPU time in Activity Monitor. Question: Do we need to erase the disk and install a fresh copy of Big Sur betas for each new beta?
I am trying to print an important tax document but the pdf is printing mirrored on mac Big Sur 11.2.3 Please help!
I hope this is the correct forum to ask about the beta version of Monterey. I'm on the Beta Programme and before I install Monterey, I need to know if existing software drivers and apps I installed while running Big Sur will also run and work on Monterey. The driver I'm most concerned about is an audio driver for the Pioneer DDJ-SR2 DJ controller and the DJ Pro AI app as well as various photo and video editing apps. I'm running Big Sur on a 2020 13 MacBook with the M1 chip. All of the mentioned drivers and app work perfectly on Big Sur. I just want to make sure all of these will run and work on Monterey. Thanks in advance.

After the installation and the restart, I still haven't made any progress with setting up Big Sur, after I restart my Mac after the installation of Big Sur, it forces me to install Big Sur again once I boot up my Mac, I've tried multiple trouble shooting techniques but they just won't work. Its like a cycle, I install Big Sur, restart, then I'm forced to install it again after an error message prompt, something saying that the installation wouldn't work. I've tried multiple times to fix this, deleting the application and re-downloading it, shutting down and turning on my Mac, and verifying that I have enough storage. I'm using an SSD card to install Big Sur and my Mac is a 2015 model, I have 55 GB of storage to install Big Sur on my SSD.
In Catalina, the root volume could be mounted as read/write by disabling SIP and entering the following command: sudo mount -uw / This command doesn't seem to be working under Big Sur: mount_apfs: volume could not be mounted: Permission denied mount: / failed with 66 What should I do now?
We have create a new configurable widget with intent. Big Sur beta 9 On DTK (Apple Silicon) and iMac Xcode 12.2 Beta 2 Error Message when clicking Configure button in the Widget simulator: Unable to Load: We want to provide the widget for our existing app at the first day when Big Sur released. Any idea how can we test to configure the widget?
macOS Big Sur 11.0.1 has been released officially last week. Now, on Nov 17th, we've got new Big Sur 11.1 beta... What number would be the next minor update for Big Sur? I'd expected 11.0.2 as the next minor update version from 11.0.1, but 11.1 has released. I've understood that an increment of the 3rd position in version frame means a minor os update.( like 10.15.6 -> 10.15.7 ) I want to know if macOS version update planning has changed or not. What's the next minor version of 11.1 ??
I have iMac late 2014 now installed macBig Sur(ver 11.0.1) which performs very slow. Should I reinstall operation system to the Flash Storage disc instead of SATA disk to speed everything up?
I've recently updated to MacOS Big Sur and have the following issue with Microsoft Excel. When opening a new or existing excel document, excel will always open on the first desktop (I use multiple desktops) and not on the currently selected desktop (This has been an issue since the previous OS). My problem starts here. When excel is moved to another desktop and you want to use save as is opens the save as window on desktop 1 and then moves between the desktop excel is opened on and desktop one (Flashing between them) untill you press esc. To actually have a chance to save the document you now have to move excel back to the first desktop and then use the save as command.
After Big sur installed, my MACbook pro could not detect external monitor (LG), tried plug, unplug, restart ...etc. One time suddenly external monitor displayed then off again. I think this is Big Sur software problem. My external monitor works fine with Mac air and another Macbook (without Big sur installed). Please help!
One of my employees upgraded to Big Sur this week-end and got a kernel panic today. It's not obvious to me what's the cause of the kernel panic, what should I do? Kernel panic logs - https://developer.apple.com/forums/content/attachment/df639508-18a3-48dd-9e5b-7c3db493a63c
Anyone encountering an issue with Big Sur and the terminal failing to present a shell some reasonably short time after boot? Initially works no problems, after a while new Terminal windows open fine but the shell never loads and you're left looking at a cursor.
