4.1 Copycat when use content from an API
Hi,I've build an app who uses content from Wikia Fandom API.The app display characters and episodes from Rick and Morty.Of course I do not own the rights from Rick and Morty characters, but I can have the rights to use content who comes from Wikia API.My App is free of charge and do note make any money of it.How can my app be rejected for copycat reason ?It's like IMDB was rejected because it's displaying movie poster and don't own the right of the show ?Here the content of the rejection reason :Your app or its metadata appears to contain misleading content.Specifically, your app includes content that resembles “Rick and Morty” without the necessary authorization. It would be appropriate to remove all resembling content from the metadata. What do you think about it ? How can can I change that ?To be clear, my app screenshots, are in app screenshot displaying Rick and Morty characters.

Reply to Fake Reviews
Hello Tomato,I would tell you to use the Report a concern button, but it doesn't work. This developer only has a couple dozen copycat apps. I checked some of the reviews. Mostly they look legitimate. Many were one-star but obviously wrong, blaming the developer because the user didn't know how to use the LaunchPad. That one reviewer only has 3 review and they are years apart.I hate to tell you this, but in the context of the Mac App Store, this developer is really top-tier - the cream of the crop. Most are much, much worse.

Reply to 4.3 Design Guidelines - Apple please reconsider how this is enforced.
>That is now being dictated by the Appstore, which I feel is very unfair toward developers who are not spamming or cloning games, but rather, providing a specific audience with the exact app they are looking for. After all, marketing is 100% of what makes an app successful these days. The gold rush days of the appstore are over, so if you don't have marketing, you don't have a specific target market in mind, then you don't have any reason to release an app in the first place. And that is what scares us the most as indie developers. How is this not spamming or cloning? Apple is going in right direction - App Store is flooded with copycat apps.

Breach of clause 4.1 App store review guideline
According to App Store Review Guidelines 4.1 copycat, developer cannot breach this clause. Buy unfortunately there are hundreds of developer that breach the clause including the big publisher like ketchapp and apple never took an action against it. one example is Ballz copy of swipe break breaker, not only that they even plagerized the phrase the champion of time killer. But it seems there are few clause that indie developer can breach it too if big publishers are breaching it.

Guideline 4.1 - Design - Copycats (Please demonstrate your relationship with any third-party brand owners represented in your app.)
Hi devs,we've got an app rejection and the next step is:Please demonstrate your relationship with any third-party brand owners represented in your app.I tried to google and also searched this forum but couldn't find a clear answer/instruction. Therefore I seek your help. Of course I wrote Apple in the resolution center but I didn't get a message back until now, so I'm trying to reach out to the community.Project setup:We: Developer of the app with an App Store account where the app should be published.Agency: Our client, an agency without AS account.Client: Big company without AS account. The app contains the name and logo of the client. This seems to be a problem for Apple now and therefore the rejection. Here's the complete message in the resolution center:Guideline 4.1 - Design - CopycatsYour app or its metadata appears to contain misleading content. Fixing issues before submission
Hello App developers,I need to make a few changes to my app that was rejected.Issue 1:The screenshots I chose did not reflect my app in use. I looked up the Accurate Metadata section in the App Store Review Guidelines and my images seemed to be OK according to what was written there. They should be the correct aspect racio, as I took them from my device. The images show the full game experience. I'm not sure exactly what is wrong with them?Issue 2:The initial feedback told me that there was a Design - Copycats issue. I was told that my app or its metadata had misleading content with another app. It had appeared that the name I chose closely matched the name of another app. However, I have been unable to confirm if there are any other aspects of the game that I need to change to fix this issue. I'm not sure what to do here as I don't want to be removed from the developer program?Any help is most appreciated.

Stickers rejected for 3rd party content
I created a sticker app that was rejected for Guideline 4.1 - Design - Copycats because it resembled my anime web site. That was intentional, obviously...so I explained that it's indeed my site and I have full rights to use its trademarks and copyrights. I even provided a URL where that site links to the app as proof that I'm not just some random person. I re-submitted the stickers unchanged...just with additional explaination. They got rejected AGAIN! This time, Apple says, Your app or its metadata appears to contain misleading content. Specifically, the application is still leveraging 3rd party content. There is absolutely no 3rd party content in the app. I think they are under the impression that the mascot character in the stickers is from some existing anime property, but the art is 100% original and merely drawn in the anime style. The art and character is not from any particular anime show. It's not even fan art. 100% original content. The screenshots included with the rejection are of the app ic

On a screenshot you can see a piece of a car, but you can not tell what kind of car that is.Can the car be the reason?Or does the icon look similar to other apps? It is a collage app. All collage app icons look similar. But not exactly the same.I really do not know what to do. I spent two months development time, 2000 $ for translations and designer. How to prove app for famous client is "official"
My app for a somewhat famous client was rejected under 4. 1 DESIGN: COPYCATS. What kind of materials is Apple expecting as proof that the client has authorized the app? The client has never published an app before. This is also my first time submitting to Apple, hence my asking questions hereI can put up a webpage on the client's official website identifying myself as the developer. I can also submit a signed and dated note from the client identifying myself as the authorized developer. Would these measures suffice?

Reply to If I create a successful app that is bringing in considerable revenue, can Apple create a similar app and push me out of business? Apple's Indepenedent Development Clause says they can or am I interpreting it wrong?
While Apple will listen to copycat claims against other devs in the store, it seems like that's exactly what has happened in the past, so yes, I think it's always a possibility.

I don't believe you'd be setting a precedent, as long as they don't appear to be copycats once in the store.
