Received a warning from Apple regarding updating APNs ceritificate.
"As we announced in October, the Certification Authority (CA) for Apple Push Notification service (APNs) is changing. APNs will update the server certificates in sandbox on January 20, 2025, and in production on x date, 2025. To continue using APNs without interruption, you’ll need to update your application’s Trust Store to include the new server certificate: SHA-2 Root : USERTrust RSA Certification Authority certificate. To ensure a smooth transition and avoid push notification delivery failures, please make sure that both old and new server certificates are included in the Trust Store before the cut-off date for each of your application servers that connect to sandbox and production. At this time, you don’t need to update the APNs SSL provider certificates issued to you by Apple." As we are using firebase for receiving notifications and azure notification hub, I read that there is nothing we as developers need to do and will be handled by the providers right?

How can I be notified when my app is in foreground and server start an live activity by push notification
My app will be woken when Activity.pushToStartTokenUpdates delivered the new token. But I want to know how can I get the activity.pushTokenUpdates when my server start an live activity via push notification, because without the activity.pushTokenUpdates, my server can't deliver update information after start the live activity. For now, I check the activities when my app switch foreground/background. But how can I be notified when my app is in foreground and server start an live activity by push notification. I've tried "content-available": 1 in LA's payload aps, but I also can't be notified in the didReceiveRemoteNotification in appDelegate.

Push notifications to api.push.apple.com sometimes fail
We have a case when we send 8 push notifications more or less simultaneously over 1 HTTP 2.0 connection. Using .NET Core 8 Sometimes some of them fail with a strange message: System.Net.Http.HttpRequestException: The response ended prematurely while waiting for the next frame from the server. (ResponseEnded) ---> System.Net.Http.HttpIOException: The response ended prematurely while waiting for the next frame from the server. (ResponseEnded) at System.Net.Http.Http2Connection.ThrowRequestAborted(Exception innerException) at System.Net.Http.Http2Connection.Http2Stream.TryEnsureHeaders() at System.Net.Http.Http2Connection.Http2Stream.ReadResponseHeadersAsync(CancellationToken cancellationToken) at System.Net.Http.Http2Connection.SendAsync(HttpRequestMessage request, Boolean async, CancellationToken cancellationToken) --- End of inner exception stack trace --- at System.Net.Http.Http2Connection.SendAsync(HttpRequestMessage request, Boolean async, CancellationToken cancellationToken) at System.Net.Http.HttpConnectionPool.SendWithVersionDetectionAndRetryAsync(HttpRequestMessage request, Boolean async, Boolean doRequestAuth, CancellationToken cancellationToken) at System.Net.Http.RedirectHandler.SendAsync(HttpRequestMessage request, Boolean async, CancellationToken cancellationToken) at System.Net.Http.DecompressionHandler.SendAsync(HttpRequestMessage request, Boolean async, CancellationToken cancellationToken) at Microsoft.Extensions.Http.Logging.HttpClientLoggerHandler.SendAsync(HttpRequestMessage request, CancellationToken cancellationToken) We noticed that failure is always accompanied with a huge delay (~500ms) comparing to success (~20ms). Also some of the burst messages are sent successfully (sometimes 2-4 of them) What can we do about it?

Unable to install an app extension when running it for debugging
I've got an app with several app extensions (call extension, action extension, notification service extension, message filtering extension, notification content extension). If I need to interactively debug these then I can select the scheme and run the extension within Xcode for all of them except for the notification content extension, with that I get an error dialog summary saying: Failed to install the app on the device / The provided item to be installed is not of a type that CoreDevice recognizes. Which when expanded has the blumpf posted below. Why can I not run the notification content extension, when I can run any other type of app extension? Failed to install the app on the device. New features for APNs token authentication now available
Team-scoped keys introduce the ability to restrict your token authentication keys to either development or production environments. Topic-specific keys in addition to environment isolation allow you to associate each key with a specific Bundle ID streamlining key management. For detailed instructions on accessing these features, read our updated documentation on establishing a token-based connection to APNs.

SHA-2 Root: USERTrust RSA Certification Authority certificate.
Got notification to update this certificate - there was a link to Sectigo.com where I found an attachment with that name - when I clicked it I got a box where it said to install it. Clicked the box and it was saved somewhere on my computer. Now I dont know if that's it or I need to take further actions - please help :-) Have no experience with this - my collegue who did this has stopped. Hoping for a simple answer :-) P

Error when running Live Activities
Hi there, This is my first time posting here. I'm working on small projects on Swift and SwiftUI now and then. I'm currently trying to develop an application that gets some bus arrival data using API and displaying them with live activities. The thing is that I'm not quite sure how frequently updates work yet. Still trying to figure out if I can update the live activity everytime the data coming right from the API changes or use push notification updates each minute passing by, but that is another thread that I'm going to focus with more details. Everytime i'm trying to deploy my app on my iphone or a simulator this error keeps popping up and I can't figure out why. Any ideas? Let me know if you need any snippet of my code. Notification Received in Kill Mode but No Method Invoked in iOS
Hello Apple Developer Team, I am facing an issue with remote notifications in my iOS app. When the app is in a terminated (kill) state, notifications are successfully received by the device, but none of the app's handlers (like _firebaseMessagingBackgroundHandler in Flutter) are invoked. This is impacting our ability to process silent notifications or perform background tasks reliably when the app is not running. Steps to reproduce: Send a remote notification with content-available: 1 in the payload. Confirm the notification is received by the device while the app is in kill mode. Observe that no background or foreground notification methods are triggered in the app. Expected Behavior: The app should invoke the background handler to process the notification payload, even in a terminated state. Observed Behavior: The notification is delivered to the device, but no app-level processing occurs because none of the methods are triggered. Can you please confirm if this is the intended behavior due to iOS limitations, or if there is a configuration or alternative solution to allow background handlers to execute in such scenarios? Any guidance or clarification would be highly appreciated. Thank you!

Clarification Needed on Apple Push Notification Service Server Certificate Update Requirements for Token-Based vs. Certificate-Based Authentication
Hello Apple Developer Team, Based on the mandate to update the APNs certificate by February 24, 2025 for certificate-based authentication, a question from the team has been brought up that maybe Apple or the community can help answer. Since our implementation uses token-based authentication, I’m seeking clarification on a couple of points: 1. Does the certificate update affect token-based connections at all? 2. What is the rationale behind updating certificates for certificate-based authentication, and are there any implications or benefits for developers using token-based authentication? Understanding these details will help us ensure our system remains compliant and optimally configured. Any guidance or further clarification you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Remotely dismissing notifications on iOS
I am sending push notifications on iOS, and I can receive and display them correctly. I want to be able to dismiss notifications that have been read server-side (e.g. on a different device) so I am trying to send a custom notification payload alongside a badge counter update, that specifies what notification IDs to remove. I then use removeDeliveredNotifications on the IDs I get. However, it doesn't seem to be working. I am setting the identifier using the apns-collapse-id header and I do see that reflected on the device side. Any ideas what I might be doing wrong? This is how I'm handling push notifications: func userNotificationCenter( _ center: UNUserNotificationCenter, willPresent notification: UNNotification, withCompletionHandler completionHandler: @escaping (UNNotificationPresentationOptions) -> Void ) { let customPayload = notification.request.content.userInfo if let dismissedNotifications = customPayload["dismissed_notifications"] as? [String] { center.removeDeliveredNotifications(withIdentifiers: dismissedNotifications) } completionHandler([.banner, .sound, .badge]) } I also tried doing the same thing inside func userNotificationCenter( _ center: UNUserNotificationCenter, didReceive response: UNNotificationResponse, withCompletionHandler completionHandler: @escaping () -> Void ) Thank you!

Is the Time Sensitive Notification entitlement needed for visionOS?
I noticed the time sensitive entitlement says it's only for iOS and macOS. But without the entitlement, the time sensitive toggle doesn't show in my app's notification settings on visionOS. When I archive my visionOS app for App Store Connect, the entitlement seems to be taken out as it doesn't show in my entitlement list for the build in App Store Connect. I'm confused at this point if the entitlement is really necessary, since it seems to be needed to debug on the simulator at least. I don't have a physical device to test it on unfortunately.

Status of Action Required: Apple Push Notification Service Server Certificate Update
According to the Apple notification alert received in October 2024, the APNS server certificate update for production is scheduled for February 24, 2025. Has this change been implemented, or is there a platform or method to verify whether this update has been applied in production? If so, where can we check this?"

Certification Authority (CA) for Apple Push Notification service (APNs)
I got a notification that the Certification Authority (CA) for Apple Push Notification service (APNs) is changing. Does this affect the push service for Apple Wallet passes or just for apps? I have a push service for Apple Wallet passes but no service for apps. I don't use push notification service for anything other than for Apple Wallet Pass push notifications, not at all for apps. Is there anything I need to do or is this not relevant to my situation? If it does, what do I need to change in order to make sure my service still works? Do I just replace the certificate? Is there a standard path where it would live on the server? I'm sure this is a simple thing, but it's been over a decade since I wrote the push service so I'm pretty rusty.

userNotificationCenter(_:willPresent:withCompletionHandler:) Triggered Twice in iOS 18
I'm encountering an unexpected issue in my app since upgrading to iOS 18, and I’m wondering if anyone has found a solution or workaround. The Problem: The userNotificationCenter(:willPresent:withCompletionHandler:) method is being triggered twice whenever a push notification arrives while the app is in the foreground. Additionally, application(:didReceiveRemoteNotification:fetchCompletionHandler:) is also being triggered once during the same notification event. This redundant triggering is causing inconsistent behavior and double-processing of notifications, which is obviously problematic for my use case. The exact flow looks like this: userNotificationCenter(:willPresent:withCompletionHandler:) — called twice. application(:didReceiveRemoteNotification:fetchCompletionHandler:) — called once. Has anyone else experienced this behavior specifically in iOS 18? Is this a known issue with the new version? This issue is affecting how we handle notifications in a major way, and I’m hoping there's a more fundamental fix or explanation for this behavior in iOS 18.

Persist and deliver scheduled local notifications after app update
I have an app available for download in the Apple App Store. The app sends local notifications, which are scheduled at the user's request once the app launches. I've recently learned that when new versions of my app are deployed and automatically update on the user's device, previously scheduled local notifications are deleted. Given my app design, the user can re-launch the app in order to re-schedule the local notifications. This is a bit of a problem, though, because part of my app's value is in reminding the user - so after requesting a local notification, the user expects to receive a local notification and then launch the app, not the other way around. Given this, I've been exploring solutions so my app continues to function as expected (including delivering local notifications, even if the app hasn't yet been launched) after an app update. I've explored .backgroundTasks(), but they too are apparently deleted with an app update and require the app to be re-launched first to work as expected. Another solution might be to use push notifications instead of local notifications, but that seems like a very involved solution if I'm just looking to make sure that local notifications persist after an app update. I can't be the only person to have this dilemma - am I overlooking a simple solution?
