Failed to launch Photo Editing Extension from Mac Catalyst app
I have an iOS app that includes a Photo Editing Extension and is optimized for Mac Catalyst so you can edit photos in the Photos app on your Mac. This has worked really well but now I am encountering an error alert trying to open the photo editing extension: RBSLaunchRequest error trying to launch plugin com.company.TestEditor. Extrinsic matrix
Hi everyone, I am working on a 3D reconstruction project. Recently I have been able to retrieve the intrinsics from the two cameras on the back of my iPhone. One consideration is that I want this app to run regardless if there is no LiDAR, but at least two cameras on the back. IF there is a LiDAR that is something I have considered to work later on the course of the project. I am using a AVCaptureSession with the two cameras AVCaptureDevice: builtInWideAngleCamera builtInUltraWideCamera The intrinsic matrices seem to be correct. However, the when I retrieve the extrinsics, e.g., builtInWideAngleCamera w.r.t. builtInUltraWideCamera the matrix I get looks like this: Extrinsic Matrix (Ultra-Wide to Wide): [0.9999968, 0.0008149305, -0.0023960583, 0.0] [-0.0008256607, 0.9999896, -0.0044807075, 0.0] [0.002392382, 0.0044826716, 0.99998707, 0.0]. [-14.277955, -8.135408e-10, -0.3359985, 0.0] The extrinsic matrix of the form: [R | t], seems to be correct for the rotational part, but the translational vector is ALL ZEROS. Which suggests that the cameras are physically overlapped as well the last element not being 1 (homogeneous coordinates). Has anyone encountered this 'issue' before? Is there a flaw in my reasoning or something I might be missing? Any comments are very much appreciated.

PHPhoto localIdentifier to cloudIdentifier conversion
The sample code in the Apple documentation found in  PHCloudIdentifier does not compile in xCode 13.2.1. Can the interface for identifier conversion be clarified so that the answer values are more accessible/readable. The values are 'hidden' inside a Result enum It was difficult (for me) to rewrite the sample code because I made the mistake of interpreting the Result type as a tuple. Result type is really an enum. Using the Result type as the return from library.cloudIdentifierMappings(forLocalIdentifiers: ) and .localIdentifierMappings( for: ) puts the actual mapped identifiers inside the the enum where they need additional access via a .stringValue message or an evaluation of an element of the result enum. For others finding the same compile issue, here is a working version of the sample code. This compiles in xCode 13.2.1. func localId2CloudId(localIdentifiers: [String]) -> [String] {         var mappedIdentifiers = [String]()        let library = PHPhotoLibrary.shared()         let iCloudIDs = library.cloudIdentifierMappings(forLocalIdentifiers: localIdentifiers)         for aCloudID in iCloudIDs {           let cloudResult: Result = aCloudID.value             // Result is an enum .. not a tuple             switch cloudResult {                 case .success(let success):                     let newValue = success.stringValue                     mappedIdentifiers.append(newValue)                 case .failure(let failure):                     // do error notify to user                       }         }         return mappedIdentifiers     } ``` swift func func cloudId2LocalId(assetCloudIdentifiers: [PHCloudIdentifier]) -> [String] {             // patterned error handling per documentation         var localIDs = [String]()         let localIdentifiers: [PHCloudIdentifier: Result<String, Error>]  = PHPhotoLibrary.shared() .localIdentifierMappings(                   for: assetCloudIdentifiers)         for cloudIdentifier in assetCloudIdentifiers {             guard let identifierMapping = localIdentifiers[cloudIdentifier] else {                 print("Failed to find a mapping for \(cloudIdentifier).")                 continue             }             switch identifierMapping {                 case .success(let success):                     localIDs.append(success)                 case .failure(let failure) :                     let thisError = failure as? PHPhotosError                     switch thisError?.code {                         case .identifierNotFound:                             // Skip the missing or deleted assets.                             print("Failed to find the local identifier for \(cloudIdentifier). \(String(describing: thisError?.localizedDescription)))")                         case .multipleIdentifiersFound:                             // Prompt the user to resolve the cloud identifier that matched multiple assets.                             print("Found multiple local identifiers for \(cloudIdentifier). \(String(describing: thisError?.localizedDescription))") //                            if let selectedLocalIdentifier = promptUserForPotentialReplacement(with: thisError.userInfo[PHLocalIdentifiersErrorKey]) { //                                localIDs.append(selectedLocalIdentifier)                         default:                             print("Encountered an unexpected error looking up the local identifier for \(cloudIdentifier). \(String(describing: thisError?.localizedDescription))")                     }               }             }         return localIDs     }

Use Vision framework to detect a graph in Swift
I would like to offer the functionality that the user aims the camera at a graph (including axes and scales) and the app detects the graph and the app replicates the graph using the image. I have the whole camera setup finished with a AVCaptureSession, VNDetectContoursRequest, VNImageRequestHandler, etc. However, now I get many many results so I guess I will now need to tell the image processing process what I am looking for. i.e. filter the VNContoursObservations. I 'think' I first need to detect two perpendicular lines (the two axes). How do I do that? If I do not see them, I can just ignore that input and wait for the next VNContoursObservation. When I found the axes of the graph, I will need to find the curve (graph) that I need to scan. Any tips on how I can find that curve and turn that curve into a bunch of coordinates? Thanks! Wouter

Message from com.apple.photos.backend (PhotoKit) in log
Hello Our application is backing up the user photos to some back end. When retrieving the asset data from the Photo Library, we set the flag 'accessNetworkAllowed' to true to get the assets that might be optimized in iCloud. In the application logs, we can see the message below, and it shows as coming from com.apple.photos.backend (PhotoKit) Missing prefetched properties for PHAssetAdjustmentProperties on <PHAsset: 0x160b1ec00> BCF5688F-F7A7-4196-AFC7-A84E8BD95F3E/L0/001 mediaType=1/0, sourceType=1, (5601x3734), creationDate=2022-01-24 23:36:05 +0000, location=0, hidden=0, favorite=0, adjusted=0 . Fetching on demand on the main queue, which may degrade performance. In particular, the message says 'Fetching on demand on the main queue' but I'm not sure if that means that PhotoKit will fetch on main queue or if that mean that our application is requesting the data on main queue. Anyone could clarify? thanks

Issues with ProRAW MAX(48) and stock camera app
Hello developer community. I purchase recently my new iPhone 16 Pro Max; it is a premium device with great quality overall. However, I am having a big trouble shotting in ProRaw MAX (48 mode) with native camera. Just to be clear, the problem that i will describe do not happen in 3rd apps, such as ProCam; only with native camera. When I use ProRaw Max, and take the photo, and watch the photo in the gallery the image can’t load and render properly. Even, when I maximize the image to the maximum I can see pixelated portions, defects and super low resolution and excessive denoise. For comparison, this not occur with my previous iPhone 15 PM and/or when I capture photos from ProCam (same settings and configurations) in the 16PM. I proceed to take the photo, open the gallery and I see full of details, when zoomed to 100%. I tried to format the phone, reinstall the software via my mac. Tried even to look at some forums to find if there’s someone with the same issue, the information available so far is very low. I’m in contact with apple assistant from my country (Portugal), and they escalated this problem to the engineers. (that’s what I’ve been told). They did all the tests remotely (via analysis and improvement’s) and they told me that my phone is perfect in the hardware department. I will wait for the next days to be contacted again. I’m on iOS 18.0.1. (The last software available at this time). I tried multiple 16PM, from friends, family and stores (more or less 10 units), and they all showed the exact same problematic. I’m a professional photographer, so I find this frustrating and unacceptable. I would appreciate any additional suggestion or information. Thank you! Cannot add photos or files because they are bigger than 5Mb.

iOS Camera access issues in Developer mode on real device - PermissionStatus.permanentlyDenied
Xcode Version 16.3 (16E140) App developed in Flutter Flutter 3.29.3 Test iPhone device: iPhone 16 Pro running iOS 18.5 I have an app that requires Camera access. This used to work before with iOS 18.4.x. I have dumbed down my app to just get Camera permission. Even then it fails flutter: Camera permission: PermissionStatus.denied flutter: Photos permission: PermissionStatus.denied flutter: Microphone permission: PermissionStatus.denied flutter: --- End Debug Info --- flutter: Loaded translations from asset for en_US container_create_or_lookup_app_group_path_by_app_group_identifier: client is not entitled container_create_or_lookup_app_group_path_by_app_group_identifier: client is not entitled container_create_or_lookup_app_group_path_by_app_group_identifier: client is not entitled container_create_or_lookup_app_group_path_by_app_group_identifier: client is not entitled container_create_or_lookup_app_group_path_by_app_group_identifier: client is not entitled container_create_or_lookup_app_group_path_by_app_group_identifier: client is not entitled flutter: CAMERA PERMISSION STATUS: PermissionStatus.permanentlyDenied Camera permissions don't show up in my App settings or under "Settings -> Privacy and Security -> Camera" and I am at loss to understand why this is happening.

Issues with capturing bracketed photos using iPhone 16 Pro
I am experiencing a bug when using a AVCapturePhotoBracketSettings object to capture a bracketed photo sequence on iPhone 16 Pro. Specifically, when I pass in an array of exposure values: [-x, 0, +x], where x >= 3. Specifically, the high exposure photo capture returns a black image. STEPS TO REPRODUCE Run the sample app I have provided on an iPhone 16 Pro Notice that bracketed images captured where the eV is set to [-3,0,+3], [-4,0,+4], or [-5,0,+5] return a black image for the high exposure photo. Notice that on other iOS devices (like iPhone 13 Pro), the high exposure photo is returned as high brightness as expected. I have also added two folders in the sample project that show screenshots of the bug: iPhone13Pro & iPhone16Pro Sample Project: https://www.icloud.com/iclouddrive/090O_68Z0Nh2UOxmPRwu56Tmw#Focused16ProBracketedCaptureBug

photo album widget won’t work
for a while i had one photo widget (no special app, just the standard apple one) and it was set to shuffle to an album of pics of my bf. no problems at all. a few weeks later i added one to shuffle through an album of pics of my cat, and that one worked fine, but it made the one of my bf stop working, and it just showed a blank white widget, no error message or anything. so i removed the one of my cat hoping the one of my bf would go back to working, and it didn’t. i only have the widgets for find my, my bank, and then apps on my home screen otherwise.

How can I create my own Genlock hardware for the iPhone 17 Pro?
What options do I have if I don't want to use Blackmagic's Camera ProDock as the external Sync Hardware, but instead I want to create my own USB-C hardware accessory which would show up as an AVExternalSyncDevice on the iPhone 17 Pro? Which protocol does my USB-C device have to implement to show up as an eligible clock device in AVExternalSyncDevice.DiscoverySession?

PHAssetChangeRequest revertAssetContentToOriginal without original asset content
The documentation for PHAssetChangeRequest.revertAssetContentToOriginal says it will fail if the original asset content is not on the current device so you should use PHAssetResourceManager to download it first, but this no longer seems to be the case in the latest iOS versions because an error no longer occurs when I take a photo on my iPhone, edit it, open Photos on my iPad and let it sync, then open my app on iPad and call revertAssetContentToOriginal for that asset. Does the system now take care of downloading the original when needed?

Is bluetooth available in a "locked screen" camera capture extension?
I created a locked camera capture extension as explained in Apple's documentation. I'm trying to explore the possibilities of using a bluetooth peripheral from that extension - anybody knows if this is possible? The CBCentralManagerDelegate reports .unsupported in func centralManagerDidUpdateState, even if I have provided all the permissions in Info.plist.

Compatibility Issue Between 360 Cameras and iPad Pro M4
Hello everyone, I need some help about this things. If you also know, pls comment. Overview We are planning to develop an app using the “Support external cameras in your iPadOS app” feature introduced in iPadOS 17. Before implementing this feature, it is necessary for the iPad to recognize external cameras. However, among the iPad models compatible with iPadOS 17, we have found that some of the iPads owned by our development team can recognize external cameras, while others cannot. If you have any reports regarding compatibility issues or information on how to resolve these problems, please share them with us. Detailed Explanation: The results of our investigation are as follows: External Camera Used: A 360-degree camera Devices Firmware RICOH Theta X 2.61.0(2024/12/26Latest) RICOH Theta Z1 Tested iPad Devices Firmware Status 12.9インチiPad Pro(第3世代) IOS 17.5.1 OK 11インチiPad Pro(M4) IOS 18.2 NG Verification Method Step 1: Power on the iPad and the external camera, ensuring both are ready for connection. Step 2: Connect the iPad and the external camera using a USB-C cable. Step 3: Launch FaceTime on the iPad and check the displayed camera feed. If the external camera is recognized, the feed from the external camera will be displayed.

ICDeviceBrowser authorization requests always return ICAuthorizationStatusNotDetermined on iOS 26.1 beta
Area ImageCaptureCore / ICDeviceBrowser Description On iOS 26.1 beta, calling requestControlAuthorization() requestContentsAuthorization() always returns .notDetermined and never transitions to .authorized or .denied. This prevents apps from properly accessing device control or contents authorization. The issue occurs regardless of device state or prior requests. Steps to Reproduce 1. Create and start an ICDeviceBrowser instance. 2. Call requestControlAuthorization() or requestContentsAuthorization(). 3. Inspect the returned ICAuthorizationStatus. Expected Result • The system should prompt the user if necessary. • A final status of either .authorized or .denied should be returned. Actual Result • The completion handler always reports .notDetermined. • No user prompt appears and the status does not change. Version / Build • iOS 26.1 beta • Xcode Hardware • [iPhone 15 Pro, iPad Pro (M2)] Impact This regression blocks development and testing of features relying on ImageCaptureCore. Applications depending on device browsing and content access cannot proceed, which significantly affects workflows involving external device integration. Notes This appears to be a regression compared to earlier iOS releases.

Is there a way to filter PHPickerViewController by the creation date of the assets?
Our app filters the photo library to a certain date range for ease of picking photos. However, to do this, we have to require full permissions to the photo library. We would like to use the PHPickerViewController and have it filter the results by the assets creation date? This would allow us to use it. I see other filter options, but not this one. And if it isn't there, is this something that is being thought about or on a roadmap?
