Attach lldb debugger to the compiled program's executable when the main executable is not the compiled program
I am building an MPI C project in Xcode. In order to do run it, I had to: Specify /path/to/mpiexec in Edit Scheme -> Run -> Info -> Executable, instead of the "default" one, say myprogram if my target is called myprogram. Specify the following arguments in Edit Scheme -> Run -> Arguments -> Arguments Passed On Launch: -np 4, ${BUILT_PRODUCTS_DIR}/${EXECUTABLE_NAME} This is clearly analogous to a mpiexec -np 4 a.out command launched on terminal. The problem is, when I want to debug my application, the execution doesn't "stop" on the breakpoints. I instantly thought that it is because of the check box Debug Executable in Edit Scheme -> Run -> Info -> Executable. Indeed (as I have just said), the Executable specified in there is mpiexec and not myprogram. Thus, is there an option or some command I could set in Xcode to attach the lldb to myprogram?

Debugger messages not showing
I've downloaded xcode beta and from then I'm not able to see any messages in the debugger console. I only see the: "Message from debugger: killed" after stopping it. I tried downgrading it but since I'm using Sequoia Beta, "normal" xcode won't be compatible with this MacOs version. This is what I have: xcode Version 16.1 beta (16B5001e) Apple Swift version 5.10 (swiftlang-5.10.0.13 clang-1500.3.9.4) Target: x86_64-apple-darwin24.0.0 lldb-1500.0.404.7 Apple Swift version 5.10 (swiftlang-5.10.0.13 clang-1500.3.9.4) xcode-select version 2409. package-id: com.apple.pkg.CLTools_Executables version: 15.3.0.0.1.1708646388 volume: / location: / install-time: 1725364937 It can be a mess as I tried so many ways to make this work. Thanks in advance. Regards.

Unknown Crash - OUTLINED_FUNCTION_2
We've got hundreds of crashes in our SwiftUI app which we think are "silent" crashes as there are no complaints from clients and yet - it happens on the main thread in the foreground so I'm not completely sure. The annoying thing is that we have no idea by the stack trace what is causing this issue, I feel helpless as this is causing some very loud noise through management and honestly - myself who wants to have this noise cleared. this particular crash is the highest impact (one of a few different weird crashes in our app without clear stack trace) 0 SwiftUI 0x895d90 OUTLINED_FUNCTION_2 + 836 1 SwiftUI 0x895da8 OUTLINED_FUNCTION_2 + 860 2 SwiftUI 0x1329880 OUTLINED_FUNCTION_2 + 424 3 SwiftUI 0x6806c OUTLINED_FUNCTION_441 + 584 4 SwiftUI 0x481b0 OUTLINED_FUNCTION_194 + 544 5 UIKitCore 0x1b7194 -[UIViewController removeChildViewController:notifyDidMove:] + 128 6 UIKitCore 0x77d6e8 -[UINavigationController removeChildViewController:notifyDidMove:] + 80 7 UIKitCore 0x205224 -[UIViewController dealloc] + 768 8 UIKitCore 0x1036c -[UINavigationController viewDidDisappear:] + 372 9 UIKitCore 0xd9c4 -[UIViewController _setViewAppearState:isAnimating:] + 1012 10 UIKitCore 0x46e61c -[UIViewController __viewDidDisappear:] + 136 11 UIKitCore 0x7ec024 __64-[UIViewController viewDidMoveToWindow:shouldAppearOrDisappear:]_block_invoke_3 + 44 12 UIKitCore 0x1a3f24 -[UIViewController _executeAfterAppearanceBlock] + 84 13 UIKitCore 0x1a3e68 -[_UIAfterCACommitBlock run] + 72 14 UIKitCore 0x1a3d9c -[_UIAfterCACommitQueue flush] + 176 15 UIKitCore 0x1a3ca8 _runAfterCACommitDeferredBlocks + 496 16 UIKitCore 0x3f530 _cleanUpAfterCAFlushAndRunDeferredBlocks + 108 17 CoreFoundation 0x43564 __CFRUNLOOP_IS_CALLING_OUT_TO_A_BLOCK__ + 28 18 CoreFoundation 0xabd9c __CFRunLoopDoBlocks + 368 19 CoreFoundation 0x7bbbc __CFRunLoopRun + 856 20 CoreFoundation 0x80ed4 CFRunLoopRunSpecific + 612 21 GraphicsServices 0x1368 GSEventRunModal + 164 22 UIKitCore 0x3a23d0 -[UIApplication _run] + 888 23 UIKitCore 0x3a2034 UIApplicationMain + 340 24 SwiftUI 0x1d1014 OUTLINED_FUNCTION_895 + 2420 25 SwiftUI 0x13216c block_copy_helper.1 + 388 26 SwiftUI 0x11b4bc OUTLINED_FUNCTION_901 + 2868 Number 27 will be our app's Main function and that it - no other trace of our apps code. Unable to Debug macOS Action Extension: "Attach failed" Error
Hello everyone, I'm encountering an issue while trying to debug a macOS Action Extension. I created a completely fresh project with an Action Extension target. When I select the Action Extension scheme and run it, choosing Finder as the host app (app to launch it in), I receive the following error: Attach failed: Could not attach to pid : “647”. (Not allowed to attach to process. Look in the console messages (Console.app), near the debugserver entries, when the attach failed. The subsystem that denied the attach permission will likely have logged an informative message about why it was denied.) This is in Console.app: macOSTaskPolicy: (com.apple.debugserver) may not get the task control port of (Finder) (pid: 647): (Finder) is hardened, (Finder) doesn't have get-task-allow, (com.apple.debugserver) is a declared debugger(com.apple.debugserver) is not a declared read-only debugger. I am pretty sure it worked before on my project that I am developing. It stopped working and now it doesn't even work on a fresh new project. Any ideas? I tried cleaning derived data, restarting my mac, nothing helps. As per the documentation it should work normally using the Build & Run button.

APPUL OS X LION 10.7 kernel debug kit problems (10.7.{0,4}) + 11G63 unavailable
i'm trying to get firefox running in 10.7 but the kernel is crashing. i have it working/running/looking great on 10.8 and higher. something is happening in 10.7 that is causing the panic. i need the right kit. someone asked a similar question for 10.11: https://forums.developer.apple.com/forums/thread/108732 but feedback assistant doesn't seem like the right answer. i need this kit to move forward. right now using either the 10.7.0 or 10.7.4 kernel debug kit causes a panic on reboot; something to do with AVX and the fpu. i am hoping APPUL had enough foresight to see this would be an issue (even one year later) for people on newer architectures debugging for older, supported (until 2014) targets: this use-case definitely falls within the parameters.

Xcode 13 / iOS 15 takes longer than expected to launch app
I am using Xcode 13 on a Macbook Pro (Intel/2019) with macOS Big Sur 11.6 I am building and launching the app on a connecting iPhone X running iOS 15.0, I am also running a UI test suite based on XCUITest while I do that. The app takes extremely long to launch (2+ minutes), then it sits on the splash screen for another 2-3 minutes. Meanwhile, Xcode shows the alert attached: I have 2 questions: Is this a widespread Xcode 13 / iOS 15 issue? Can someone please explain what the message in the alert means "LLDB is likely reading from device memory to resolve symbols"? Is there anything I can do to reduce or avoid this wait?

Not able to use devicectl usage to run ui tests
Hello, I have a test bundle in my application and one of the strong request of our project is to run ui tests from command line having just application build. How to run unit tests on .app file that has a test target? What we tried xcrun devicectl device install app --device <device-identifier> <UITestBundle-Runner.app> xcrun devicectl device process launch --device <device-identifier> --start-stopped <com.apptestbundle-Runner.xcrun> It launches and is waiting pid to be attached. In lldb: device select <device-identifier> device process list Seeing process 'UITestBundle-Runner' pid. device process --pid 'pid id' It attaches and I can see 'debugserver' in the pid list, but it does not start testing and I need tests to start and run. Thanks!

kIOReturnNotPermitted from IOHIDManagerOpen under lldb
I'm writing a C/C++ command line program which, at some point, calls IOHIDManagerOpen. I've added both my program executable and lldb as permitted for input monitoring (as far as I remember, my program was added after showing up a permission prompt, I've added lldb manually later, trying to resolve the problem). My problem is that when I run my program from within lldb in Terminal, the call to IOHIDManagerOpen returns kIOReturnNotPermitted. When I run my program directly in the terminal session (without lldb), this call returns kIOReturnSuccess. Such behaviour means it will be impractical to use lldb for any debugging of this program. What can be done to make lldb session behave the same way, the normal execution works? I'm on: 23.2.0 Darwin Kernel Version 23.2.0: Wed Nov 15 21:55:06 PST 2023; root:xnu-10002.61.3~2/RELEASE_ARM64_T6020 arm64 and: lldb-1500.0.200.58 Apple Swift version 5.9.2 (swiftlang-5.9.2.2.56 clang-1500.1.0.2.5)

How do I see the actual leaked bytes Instruments has identified for me?
I am using the Leaks instrument, and it has identified a bunch of 32 and 48 byte "Malloc" leaks. I would like to see a hex dump of some (or all) of those areas. I think if I can see what is in them I can get a better idea about what is triggering the leak. I'm pretty sure it is a real leak. What is the easy way to do this? Can it be done inside instruments, or do I need to run my app under instruments and also attach via lldb and hexdump from lldb? (can I attach lldb and instruments at the same time?) If it matters I'm debugging an iPadOS app, and it is written in Swift plus ObjC, plus ObjC++, oh, and some straight C++.

Investigating kext memory leak with lldb and KDK
Is there a way I can use the lldb user defined commands, which I can load from a KDK, to determine how much memory my kext has consumed? Is there a way to figure out what size blocks they are? I have already run the showallclasses command and the output has assured me that I am not leaking any objects which are defined by my driver's classes. Thanks, Tim

error: Error reading commands from file lldbinit - file not found.
When I run my app on iOS 18, the following gets logged to the XCode console. error: Error reading commands from file lldbinit - file not found. I've never heard of that file before. What is it, why is it needed, why does the app (unbeknown to me) try to read from it, and why is it missing?

Can LLDB be used on Sandboxed Apps
I have a sandboxed app in /Applications. I'm attempting to shoot a problem with LLDB, so I cd to /Applications/app-name/Contents/MacOS and do lldb programname. However, once I fire it off with "r" it dies instantly with: error: process exited with status -1 (lost connection) Should this work? Should I try signing the lldb executable? Thanks!

As per the documentation it should work normally using the Build & Run button.

use of undeclared identifier '$rdi'
I am on M1 (Xcode Version 15.4 (15F31d), MacOS 14.5 (23F79), Simulator IOS 17.4) and as far as I remember printing common usage register was possible. I am not sure why it stopped to work rid, rsi and etc (arg1 arg2 seems like still working).

(can I attach lldb and instruments at the same time?) If it matters I'm debugging an iPadOS app, and it is written in Swift plus ObjC, plus ObjC++, oh, and some straight C++.

segmentation error caused by libGL.dylib`(glViewport)
OS: Sonoma 14.2.1 (23C71), I am porting a linux code (that uses C++, QT) to mac OS. after compiling the code on mac, I get segmentation error due to libGL.dylib. SetFocus is a function used in GUI programming to give focus to a specific window or control within a window. My second question : Is setFocus valid is mac OS or is there an equivalent?
