Reply to Sometimes my apps crash on launch at _libsecinit_appsandbox.cold.6
I discuss the most common causes of problems like this in Resolving App Sandbox Inheritance Problems. However, those are all 100% reproducible. A given executable will either crash on launch or not. An intermittent problem like this is much less common. The crash report you posted has this: The code signature is not valid: Impossibile completare l’operazione. (Errore OSStatus -67034). where error -67034 is errSecCSStaticCodeChanged. That suggests that you’re hitting the issue described in Updating Mac Software, or something like it. Reply to Mac (Designed for iPad) cannot access microphone
AFAIK Mac Catalyst apps can access the microphone. However, you have to keep in mind that a Mac Catalyst app is pretty much a Mac app, so you have to follow the Mac rules: If you have the hardened runtime enabled, you need to sign your app with the com.apple.security.device.audio-input entitlement. If you have the App Sandbox enabled, you need to sign your app with the com.apple.security.device.microphone entitlement. You have to add NSMicrophoneUsageDescription to your Info.plist [1]. Please try this out and let me know how you get along. Share and Enjoy — Quinn “The Eskimo!” @ Developer Technical Support @ Apple let myEmail = eskimo + 1 + @ + apple.com [1] There are some cases where the Info.plist properties use different keys on the Mac vs other platforms. I don’t think that’s the case here. It’s NSAlwaysAllowMicrophoneModeControl for everyone.

Reply to Free trial for one-time purchase: Is the $0 IAP workaround still recommended in 2026?
@DTS Engineer, thanks for the reply. 🙏 That’s right, I used the local test environment only to capture those screenshots. The build currently in TestFlight does use sandbox. I’m asking about the text of the two paywalls. The guidelines are unclear for this corner case, and there aren’t many up-front paid apps with trials to reference. So, to clarify: Does the paywall text look acceptable, or should I change anything before submitting to App Review?

@Bikrrr Your screenshots show you are testing in the local test environment. Apple reviews In-App Purchases in the sandbox, the same environment used for testing In-App Purchases. To test your In-App Purchases in the sandbox, In App Store Connect, create a Sandbox Apple Account. In your Xcode project, disable StoreKit Testing in Xcode Build and run your app on a device to test in the sandbox. For more information, see Testing In-App Purchases with sandbox.

Reply to XPC Communication between Editor app and user-compiled code
I was under the impression that the fault recovery part was the reason why you were suggesting running an executable. XPC was the thing I found, when I was looking for ways to execute code and communicate with it from my host app. But now I understand that compiling loading a dynamic library is the way to go. That's how I will start, and then probably run all of that in an XPC Service, for fault recovery. Regarding executing the compiled code from a sandboxed app: You were mentioning the com.apple.security.files.user-selected.executable entitlement. This would be exactly what I need, right? But it is almost never allowed by the App Store Review team? What is a way to find out? Submit the app and see? This leads me to my original question again. Could I distribute a Mac app in the App Store, and then have users install an additional, non-sandboxed app from a website, which launches a MachService? Would my sandboxed app be able to talk to that MachService? Or is this forbidden by the

Reply to Need help to build a Mac command-line app for App Store or TestFlight
I see. After reading 2.4.5 of App Review Guidelines, I've just started to understand that the restrictions of the App Sandbox are sometimes hard to keep. I'm currently seeing a EXC_BREAKPOINT for unknown reasons. But beyond that, my app will have many more upcoming violations on things that App Sandbox or App Store wants to restrict. Many Mac apps ... aren't in the Mac App Store because of the App Sandbox restrictions. This is the kind of information that I wanted to get. Thanks. I think I have to rethink my plans from scratch. In case if you have further suggestions, I describe my intension: my app is a shell-like command-line app that runs on Terminal.app and makes completions on the file names to open. So it's like a system command that scans files in the file system (I know, its a too much freedom for an App...) Thank you so much, your responses are much appreciated.

Reply to XPC Communication between Editor app and user-compiled code
Thank you very much for your reply! It would be great if you could clarify some things for me: and for a named XPC endpoint vended by a launchd daemon you use init(machServiceName:options:). I believe this is what I did, see my second code example (machServiceName: ...). I'm wondering why it didn't work. it’s feasible to compile your code to something that’s loadable (a Mach-O dynamic library or bundle) and then have your XPC service load that. What is the benefit of loading the dynamic lib from the XPC service, and not from the main app directly? Overall stability for cases where the lib crashes? Or would this somehow allow me to distribute my editor app through the App Store? AFAIK it is not allowed for a sandboxed app to compile code, is it? And a XPC service distributed with my sandboxed app is also sandboxed, correct? I understand that loading the dynamic lib has a lot of benefits regarding security and stability, but I'd like to understand if it is a absolute requirement.

Reply to Need help to build a Mac command-line app for App Store or TestFlight
The Mac App Store might not accept command-line apps. They may require apps to be in a Mac app bundle. One way to build your app for the Mac App Store is to create a simple Mac GUI app project in Xcode and bundle your command-line app with the GUI app. Use the Process class to run the command-line app. You will have to conform to the App Sandbox guidelines to get approved on the Mac App Store. Many Mac apps that bundle command-line apps aren't in the Mac App Store because of the App Sandbox restrictions. You might have to distribute your app from your own website.

App Store Server Notifications behavior when subscription is removed from sale (Cleared for Sale) — sandbox not replicable
Hello, We are planning to shut down our mobile app service and need to discontinue our auto-renewable subscription product. Our service termination date is July 31, and we are currently preparing the backend implementation for this. We have reviewed the official documentation and Apple Developer Forums, but there are several behaviors we cannot confirm through sandbox testing, as the Remove from Sale setting does not appear to affect the sandbox environment. We would greatly appreciate clarification on the following: Server notification at the moment of Cleared for Sale being unchecked When we uncheck Cleared for Sale in App Store Connect, is any App Store Server Notification (V2) sent to our server immediately at that moment? If yes, what is the exact notificationType and subtype value sent? If no, when is the first notification triggered for existing active subscribers after this action? 2. Notification sequence from product removal through final expiration For existing active subscribers,

macOS Tahoe: DNSServiceBrowse returns kDNSServiceErr_NoAuth (-65555) only for meta-queries (_services._dns-sd._udp)
Hello, I am experiencing a specific authorization error on macOS Tahoe when trying to discover all available service types on the local network. While the implementation works perfectly on iOS and macOS Sonoma, it fails on Tahoe with a specific error code. The Issue When calling DNSServiceBrowse with the meta-query string _services._dns-sd._udp, the function immediately returns kDNSServiceErr_NoAuth (-65555). // This call fails on macOS Tahoe DNSServiceErrorType err = DNSServiceBrowse( &ref, 0, kDNSServiceInterfaceIndexAny, _services._dns-sd._udp, // Meta-query for all services domc, probe_browse_reply, (__bridge void *)self ); Important Findings & Observations Specific Services Work: If I change the service type to a specific one (e.g., _http._tcp or _ssh._tcp) using NWBrowser, it works correctly and returns results.
