Reply to sshd-keygen-wrapper permissions problem
I assume this is simply a bug
That’s correct. If you’re building a macOS product and this is causing you significant amounts of grief, it might make sense to ship an update to your product that embeds your program in an app-like wrapper (per Kevin’s suggestion above). Otherwise, my advice is that you wait for a fix. And, no, I don’t have any info to share as to when that fix will actually land. Applications stuck in UDP sendto syscall
Hi, We’re seeing our build system (Gradle) get stuck in sendto system calls while trying to communicate with other processes via the local interface over UDP. To the end user it appears that the build is stuck or they will receive an error “Timeout waiting to lock XXX. It is currently in use by another Gradle instance”. But when the process is sampled/profiled, we can see one of the threads is stuck in a sendto system call. The only way to resolve the issue is to kill -s KILL the stuck Gradle process. Reply to Project Overhaul: Can a New Xcode Project Upload to an Existing App ID?
does App Store Connect require the new build to originate from the same Xcode project … ?
No.
does it only validate the Bundle Identifier and Version/Build Number?
Yes. Well, it validates a bunch of other stuff as well, but in terms of identifying your app that’s always done by its bundle ID. After that it runs a bunch of validation checks, one of which is to check the versions. Your proposed approach should work just fine; I’ve worked with many developers who’ve done this. Project Overhaul: Can a New Xcode Project Upload to an Existing App ID?
Hello everyone, I'm currently developing an iOS application and have a question regarding project architecture changes and App Store Connect submissions. My app is already uploaded to App Store Connect and is being used for internal testing via TestFlight. During development, I've realized my initial project architecture is flawed and unsustainable. The Problem and Proposed Solution I've decided the best approach is to completely redevelop the app from scratch using a new, clean Xcode project that implements a better architecture (e.g., MVVM, Clean Architecture). The Core Question If I create a brand new Xcode project for the redeveloped app, can I: Use the same Bundle Identifier (com.mycompany.myapp) in the new project? Successfully archive and upload the build from this new Xcode project to the existing app on App Store Connect? In essence, does App Store Connect require the new build to originate from the same Xcode project structure as the previous builds, or does it only valida

Unable to get inbound and outbound byte count in Content Filter report.
Hello, I am building a Content Filter app for iOS and would like to get access to some information about network connections that are happening on the device. I managed to have the handle(_ report: NEFilterReport) method of my NEFilterControlProvider called, but the bytesOutboundCount and bytesInboundCount properties of the report are always 0. How can I have the real byte count of the connection ?

Unable to Generate .ipa for .NET MAUI iOS App – Codesign Fails With “unable to build chain to self-signed root”
Hi everyone, I am trying to generate an .ipa file for my .NET MAUI (net9.0-ios) application, but every attempt fails with the same codesigning error. I have tried multiple approaches, including building from Windows paired to macOS, and directly building through the macOS terminal, but nothing is working. Below are the exact steps I followed: Steps I Performed 1.>Generated the Apple Development certificate using Keychain Access on macOS. 2.>Added that certificate into my developer account and created the corresponding provisioning profile. 3.>Created an App ID, attached the App ID to the provisioning profile, and downloaded it. 4.>Added the provisioning profile into Xcode. Verified that the certificate is correctly visible in Keychain Access (private key available). Attempted to build/publish the MAUI app to generate the .ipa file. Issue Whenever I run the publish command or build via Windows/macOS, codesigning fails with the following error: /usr/bin/codesign e

Reply to Local network access is blocked when two almost identical apps are installed
This is very reminiscent of the problems I see when installing two apps with the same main executable build UUID. How to start a NetworkConnection
Hello, I am studying the Building peer-to-peer apps codebase https://developer.apple.com/documentation/wifiaware/building-peer-to-peer-apps and am wondering why no connection is ever started? I searched the codebase and didn't find .start() be called once. Start function I'm referencing https://developer.apple.com/documentation/network/networkconnection/start() Are NetworkConnections started automatically? Note that I am using QUIC NetworkConnections (NetworkConnection) in what I'm trying to do.

Reply to How to create a dylib for iOS project?
we need to wrap them in a framework
Right. And there’s no built-in support for that. There are a couple of paths you might take here: Wrap it yourself. Use a mergeable library. The first option is obvious, but surprisingly tricky. You have to manually create a .framework wrapper around your dynamic library. The tricky part [1] is in crafting the correct Info.plist. I generally recommend that you create a test framework using Xcode and then crib the on-disk structure from that. Alternatively, you could update the build process for that “independent codebase” to create a mergeable library. You can then create a framework within your own app and merge that mergeable library into it. IMPORTANT Do this for each of the platforms you support, and remember that the device and the simulator are different platforms. Your best option here is to do it separately for each platform, and then merge it all together into one XCFramework. Finally,

How to create a dylib for iOS project?
I want to create a dynamic library for my iOS project, which would be loaded at runtime. In Xcode, there are templates available for creating a static/dynamic lib for MacOS. But under the iOS tab, there is only a static library template. So, I used the static library template and in its build settings I changed the Mach-O type to dynamic library. Now after building it, I use the file command on the generated file and it tells me it is a dynamic lib. But the generated file still has .a extension, which is usually for static libs. I'm aware we can tell Xcode in build settings to change the .a extension to something else, say .dylib but this seems like a hacky way to create a dynamic library. What is the correct way? I am aware that standalone dylibs are not supported on iOS, and we need to wrap them in a framework. For my use case, the framework will literally be a wrapper, it won't have any source files of its own. It should only contain the dynamic lib generated from some independen

Reply to Issue with iOS group entitlements being recognized
You definitely want to use automatic code signing for this stuff (-: Try this: In Signing & Capabilities, enable automatic code signing on both targets. Then remove the App Groups capability from each target. Select a real device as a run destination and choose Product > Build. I’d expect that to work (-: Back in Signing & Capabilities, add the App Groups capability to the app target. And enable the relevant group from the list shown by that capability. Try building again. Repeat steps 4 through 6 for the widget target. How far do you get? And if things fail, what error do you see? Also, what version of Xcode are you using? Reply to Is there a way for two users to make development builds on separate accounts for one app?
Try this: Using Xcode, create a new project from one of the iOS > App template. During the creation process, select your team, that is, the team that the app was transferred to. And enter the bundled ID of that transferred app. Build that for the device (so not the simulator). Does that work? Is there a way for two users to make development builds on separate accounts for one app?
Tech stack: React Native + Expo. We are using two solo developer accounts (not a business or team account). Context: Friend and I set out to make an app together. Friend created app and set it up on Apple. We worked on it together. He controlled devops (builds and submission). Friend no longer can commit to development. Wants to transfer to me. I create apple developer account. After app transfer, my phone (deviceid) underwent a 14 day soft ban preventing builds. That has since been lifted. There seems to be something in place preventing me from making dev builds on the original dev bundleid. It says it's still owned by him despite the app transfer. Bottom line: what needs to happen so 1 can make dev builds? nice to have: is there a way for us to both make dev builds under the same bundleid?
