DNS Proxy system extension – OSSystemExtensionErrorDomain error 9 “validationFailed” on clean macOS machine
Hi, I’m implementing a macOS DNS Proxy as a system extension and running into a persistent activation error: OSSystemExtensionErrorDomain error 9 (validationFailed) with the message: extension category returned error This happens both on an MDM‑managed Mac and on a completely clean Mac (no MDM, fresh install). Setup macOS: 15.x (clean machine, no MDM) Xcode: 16.x Team ID: AAAAAAA111 (test) Host app bundle ID: com.example.agent.NetShieldProxy DNS Proxy system extension bundle ID: com.example.agent.NetShieldProxy.dnsProxy The DNS Proxy is implemented as a NetworkExtension system extension, not an app extension. Host app entitlements From codesign -d --entitlements :- /Applications/NetShieldProxy.app: xml com.apple.application-identifier AAAAAAA111.com.example.agent.NetShieldProxy com.apple.developer.system-extension.install com.apple.developer.team-identifier AAAAAAA111 com.apple.security.app-sandbox com.apple.security.application-groups group.com.example.NetShieldmac com.apple.se

Reply to Reduce dyld overhead
OK. I don’t think you can optimise beyond that. Rather, I think you should use that as a baseline for performance work as you evolve your program. Speaking of that, An Apple Library Primer has links to various WWDC talks where the linker team discusses various topics. Most notably, the 2022 talk discusses launch times. It’s well worth a watch. Finally, just for context, the libSystem initialiser does a bunch of really critical stuff. For example, it has the code that sets up the App Sandbox, if the executable enables it. If you want to see this initialiser in action, open your true clone project, set a symbolic breakpoint on libSystem_initializer, and run it from Xcode. When you stop at the breakpoint, Xcode will show a page of disassembled code, but that’s not too hard to understand. And most of the symbols are present, so you can look up the source code in Darwin. IMPORTANT The Darwin open source isn’t guaranteed to match the source used to build the OS, but it’s usually close eno

Reply to NSKeyedArchiving issue
Hey Claude31, it’s nice for me to be helping you for a change (-: It’s hard to tell exactly what’s going wrong here without know more about the objects in play. However, in general, when you decode something from a secure keyed archive, you have to tell the system what type you’re expecting. That’s the key factor is what makes it secure. Over the years I’ve helped a bunch of folks with problems like this. All of these threads have code snippets from me that you should find useful: Question about including all project classes in ofClasses parameter when using NSKeyedUnarchiver.unarchivedObject(ofClasses:from:) Fragment large size data sent and received using NSKeyedArchiver.archivedData in GameCenter Unarchiving an object with custom classes XPC, Swift, ObjC, and arrays NSKeyedUnarchiver decodeObjectOfClasses failed NSKeyedUnarchiver decodeObjectOfClasses failed 'unarchiveTopLevelObjectWithData' was deprecated Use unarchivedObject(ofClass:from:) instead NSkeyedArchiver fails when trying to archive sub

Entitlement not found
Dears, this is my first ever piece of code on Mac. I wanted to try ShazamKit. I created App Id and enabled App Service ShazamKit. I properly configured my app (a very small test app) with the proper boundle id, Team and entitlements file. I keep receiving this error in the Signing in section: Automatic signing failed Xcode failed to provision this target. Please address the following issues preventing automatic signing from creating a valid profile. Entitlement com.apple.developer.shazamkit not found and could not be included in profile. This likely is not a valid entitlement and should be removed from your entitlements file I noticed the message is mentioning profile...does it refer to a Profile as in Certificate/Identifiers/Devices/Profiles/Keys/Services option? I did not create any Profile. I just enabled the App Service under Certificates, Identifiers & Profiles=>Identifiers=>Edit your App ID Configuration=>App Services Thx!

Unable to download iOS simulator runtime 26.x on Xcode
Hi everyone, I'm experiencing a persistent issue for months now where I'm unable to download the iOS 26 simulator Runtime. I've tried reinstalling Xcode and also Xcode Beta but same issue. iOS 26 Simulator is also not on developers download page, so manual installation is impossible. And sadly I can't compile any code without having iOS 26 simulator installed. Anyone able to get passed this? Hardware: M1 Pro OS: Tahoe 26.1 Heres the error Download failed. Domain: DVTDownloadableErrorDomain Code: 41 User Info: { DVTErrorCreationDateKey = 2026-01-07 11:35:35 +0000; } -- Download failed. SwiftUI: AlignmentGuide in Overlay not working when in if block
Scenario A SwiftUI view has an overlay with alignment: .top, the content uses .alignmentGuide(.top) {} to adjust the placement. Issue When the content of the overlay is in an if-block, the alignment guide is not adjusted. Example code The example shows 2 views. Not working example, where the content is an if-block. Working example, where the content is not in an if-block Screenshot: https://github.com/simonnickel/FB15248296-SwiftUIAlignmentGuideInOverlayConditional/blob/main/screenshot.png Tested on - Xcode Version 16.0 RC (16A242) on iOS 18.0 Code // Not working .overlay(alignment: .top) { if true { // This line causes .alignmentGuide() to fail Text(Test) .alignmentGuide(.top, computeValue: { dimension in dimension[.bottom] }) } } // Working .overlay(alignment: .top) { Text(Test) .alignmentGuide(.top, computeValue: { dimension in dimension[.bottom] }) } Also created a Feedback: FB15248296 Example Project is here: https://github.com/simonnickel/FB15248296-SwiftUIAlignmentGuideInOverlayCondit

How to authenticate ILMessageFilterExtension network requests using tokens from the containing app?
Hi everyone, I am building an SMS filtering app using the IdentityLookup framework. My main application handles the user login and receives a JWT. I need my ILMessageFilterExtension to use this JWT to authenticate its backend requests via context.deferQueryRequestToNetwork. Since the extension is sandboxed and doesn't share a URLSession or standard Keychain with the main app, I am trying to use the Shared Web Credentials mechanism as suggested in the documentation. My Questions: Is SecAddSharedWebCredential still the recommended way to bridge a token from the main app to the messagefilter service in 2026? If the backend returns a 401 Unauthorized with a WWW-Authenticate: Basic realm=api.mydomain.com header, will iOS automatically retry the request with the stored token? Are there any specific AASA (Apple App Site Association) requirements for the messagefilter key? Does it need to be a separate top-level object or nested? Current Setup: Entitlements: Both Main App and Extension have messagefilter:api.mydomain

Developer Team invitation form doesn't progress
I have received an invitation to a development team in the Apple Developer Program. Having filled the form out and completing the image challenge successfully, tapping on continue simply results in the button graying itself out. The JavaScript console shows the following error when this happens: { code: -4 data: Destination unavailable. 500 message: Application error. } I have tried this process in Safari, Chromium, as well as on mobile data on my iPhone, and the result is the same each time. Other messages in the console: [Warning] 30 console messages are not shown. Reply to Stumped by URLSession behaviour I don't understand...
Jumping in with some thoughts from the background execution side... The code that does this work has multiple URLSession callbacks, state information, and multiple error cases that need to be handled. The flow is a bit complex. I thought this functionality would be better implemented using a single code path with async/await. At this point, based on what I've learned here, it feels like async/await won't meet my needs because I want them to continue if the app moves to the background. No, I don’t think the async/await architecture itself is really a factor. Background execution operates at the process level, and, in general, a process that's awake works the same way a backgrounded process does. There are a few exceptions (notably, access to the GPU), but, in general, background execution issues are about keeping your app awake, NOT what it can do once it's awake. That's PARTICULARLY true of the audio background category. Expanding on what Quinn said here: Background audio is the mos
