Critical Messaging Intermittent Success with notSupported
Hello, I am trying to utilize the Critical Messaging API to allow my user to message 1 or multiple pre registered contacts automatically. An issue I am having with this in testing is that when the application attempts to fire off texts to the phone numbers the success rate changes from trial to trial, with no variable changing. Sometimes I can send a Critical Message to multiple phone numbers in rapid succession, sometimes the message is only sent to 1 contact, and sometimes I get no successes. Each failure always returns the MSCriticalMessaging.notSupported error. The API documentation states, "The send(_:to:) method only works if the app is backgrounded, if it’s called from foreground the framework returns a MSCriticalMessagingError.notSupported error." If my app is always backgrounded in these tests, what other issues may cause this notSupported error return, and why does the outcomes success rate vary?

Push Notification Delivery Delays and Failures on iOS Devices
I am experiencing an issue with push notifications on my iOS application. The issue is as follows: On Android devices, push notifications are received immediately without any problems. On iOS devices, the behavior is inconsistent: When the app is in the foreground, notifications are received immediately. When the app is in the background or in recent apps with a significant delay of 5–10 hours, push notifications are not received at all. This behavior creates a major challenge for us, as timely notifications are critical for our app’s functionality. We have already verified the following points on our side: Push notification certificates and APNs setup are correct. Payload and server configurations are valid, as notifications are working fine on Android. No restrictions from the server-side, since Android users receive notifications instantly. It seems the issue is specifically related to iOS devices or APNs delivery. Could you please help us identify the cause and provide guidance on how to resolve this?

Is it possible to increase priority of background notifications?
I have an app that pairs with a wearable Bluetooth device that collects users' health data. My web backend sends two push notifications every hour to all app users—one at XX:05 and another at XX:15. The first notification instructs the app to download data from the paired wearable device, while the second prompts the app to upload the downloaded data to the backend server's database. However, I’ve noticed that many push notifications are not processed by iOS apps, especially at night. Based on Apple's documentation, iOS prioritizes push notifications and may ignore lower-priority ones to conserve battery life. Is there a way to increase the priority to ensure that more (or all) push notifications are processed? Would integrating the HealthKit framework help? Currently, I use Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) to send push notifications. Additionally, my app falls under the Health & Fitness category. Would changing it to Medical increase priority? P.S. I understand that Apple requires certain certifications for an app to be classified as Medical.

WatchOS local notifications delayed
I'm scheduling local notifications on my WatchOS app, but they are always alerting exactly 13 seconds later than scheduled. I have read other users having the exact same issue but there is no solution anywhere. I'm not sure how one is supposed to write any sort of timer app when they are always coming in delayed. Any idea why this occurs and how to resolve it? For now I am subtracting 13 seconds from the end time, but that's not really a solution I'm happy with. Thanks

CarPlay notifications unsupported for Driving Task apps in iOS 18.6
I have my app configured as a Driving Task app with the entitlement and provisioning profile correctly set up. I am also requesting the ".carPlay" notification authorization option and setting up the carplay notification category with the ".allowInCarPlay" category, both without error. When testing with the iPhone and carplay simulators the user notifications I send are appearing on the phone but not in carplay. When I check the notification settings with UNUserNotificationCenter.current().getNotificationSettings() I see that carplay is shown to be not supported ("carPlaySetting: NotSupported"). The CarPlay Developer Guide 2025-06-09 (which is the version currently referenced in the Apple docs) states that "Starting in iOS 18.4, notifications are also supported in CarPlay driving task apps". Has this discrepancy been addressed anywhere, or is this an open issue? My software versions: MacOS: Sequoia 15.6 XCode: 16.4 iPhone Simulator: iPhone 16 with iOS 18.6

Inquiry About Push Notification Behavior After App Transfer
We are in the process of transferring our app to a new Apple Developer Organization account. Our app uses the Apple Push Notification service (APNs) with a .p8 authentication key configured on our server to send push notifications. We would like to confirm: Once the app transfer is completed, will push notifications continue to work temporarily using the existing .p8 key on our server, until we generate and configure a new .p8 key under the new organization's account? Understanding this behavior is critical for us to ensure a smooth transition and avoid any disruption in push notification delivery for our users. Thank you for your guidance and support.

Problem receiving Remote Notification in the background after Review Rejected
I created an app. One if its functionalities is receive Remote Notification in the background, while app is monitoring Significant Location Changes (SLC). This functionality worked fine. I was receiving these notifications correctly. Sometimes instantly, sometime with small or large delay. And then I send the app for review. It was rejected with 3 remarks: The app or metadata includes information about third-party platforms that may not be relevant for App Store users, who are focused on experiences offered by the app itself (I wrote that app communication works both for iOS and Android.) The app declares support for audio in the UIBackgroundModes key in your Info.plist but we are unable to locate any features that require persistent audio. EULA (End User License Agreement) is missing for in-app purchases. After the rejection the app is no longer receiving these notifications. They are there, since the app receives them, when I open app, or significant location change is detected. It also works, when I run the app directly from Xcode (in debug mode), not from TestFlight nor in Sandbox. It seem to me like Apple somehow spoiled my background capabilities on purpose or accidentally. Is it possible? What can I do with it? Is it the case that I should just fix the review remarks and send the app back to review, and once the app passes it, it will work again? Or should I not count on it? Any suggestions? Notification not delivered to offline device getting back online
Hi there, I observed situations where a notification won't get delivered to an iPhone that is offline at the moment the notification request is made to the APNs, and gets back online a few hours later. It does not appear to be a fully repeatable issue, but it does happen much more than sporadically. I know the storage of notification by APNs is provided as a best-effort service and is not guaranteed, but I do believe there is an issue that maybe is worth looking at. I controlled for all aspects that could explain the issue: APNs return a success code on the request the apns-expiration timestamp is not reached when the device gets back online apns-priority is set to 10 target device was in charge while offline no other notification were sent for the device I provided detailed logs in feedback FB15381079 Also sharing a remark on this piece of the APNs documentation: "When you send multiple notifications to the same device for a bundle ID, APNs selects only one notification to store in a non-deterministic way." It would be very useful to confirm whether silent push notification may lead APNs storage to dismissed an alert notification in favor of the silent push. Thank you

APNs Returning 200 OK for Uninstalled Apps Instead of 410 Error
We're experiencing an issue with Apple Push Notification service where APNs continues to return 200 OK responses for device tokens belonging to uninstalled applications. Issue Details: When sending push notifications to device tokens. APNs returns 200 OK responses even for devices where our app was uninstalled more than a month ago According to documentation(https://developer.apple.com/documentation/usernotifications/handling-notification-responses-from-apns), APNs should return 410 status code with JSON body for invalid tokens Expected Behavior: APNs should return 410 status code when device token is no longer valid (app uninstalled) Thanks in advanced for support

It didn't get any notifications after changing the device token. (Voip, APNs)
I am developing the iOS application using PushKit and APNS. Some users didn't get any notifications after some events, such as updated iOS 18 or a new version from the App Store. After the event had changed device tokens (PushKit, APNS). When the app has launched, register the iOS system with PushKit and APN tokens and upload it to our server. Most of the time, the tokens didn't change. I was investigating the console log when making a call from another device or sending APN. But I didn't get any logs from it. Normally it is looking following apsd, callserviced, Springboard, delivering or launching the app when getting a voip push. The issue was solved after reinstalling the app. But it still occurred with users—about 1% of total.  How do I solve the issue without reinstalling the app?

Unable to connect to APNS sandbox endpoint
I am unable to connect to APNs sandbox push endpoint from our backend servers. It works fine when hitting the request from my local machine but it fails from the infra servers. Action Required: Apple Push Notification Service Server Certificate Update
Hello Everyone, I have some questions regarding the Apple notification alert update received in October 2024 for the APNs server certificate update. We are using Azure Notification Hub to receive push notifications. I confirmed with the Azure team, and they have already implemented the required changes. However, push notifications are still not working in the sandbox environment. Could you please provide any insights on this? Thanks.

How to modify default APS Environment? (aps-environment)
It looks like APS Environment is configured by setting the aps-environment value in an app entitlements file to either development or production. However, it seems to be the case that, by default, Xcode automatically overrides the set value when an app is signed and the value is instead derived from the provisioning profile. So, for development profiles, you get development (sandbox) aps-environment, and for distribution profiles, you get production aps-environment configured - regardless of how the setting has been configured in the entitlements plist. This is documented here: https://developer.apple.com/documentation/bundleresources/entitlements/aps-environment That document also states that this default behaviour can be overridden: "These default settings can be modified". Question is, how to override these default settings. In other words, how to point aps-environment to production, even if provisioning profile is development. Any insight appreciated, thx.

PTT Framework Restrictions
We are attempting to update our app to use the PTT framework, as it has been made clear that this will be required in a future iOS version as opposed to using the Unrestricted VoIP entitlement we are using for several features of our app. However, the behavior of this framework poses some problems with implementing our app's functionality: It is not possible to programmatically join a channel when the app is not in the foreground. This hinders our ability to implement the Automatically activate radio stream feature of our app, which allows users who have opted into this feature to immediately begin hearing live PTT audio from their agency following an incident alert. Having the app constantly "joined to a channel" and using the restoration delegate could potentially work, however this is not ideal as this would result in the PTT UI needing to be displayed at all times, even when no radio stream is activated. We have a "Text to Speech" option that, when enabled, reads out the content of an incident alert after the alert sound has played. This currently happens by triggering an AVSpeechSynthesizer in the PushKit incoming push callback. It may be possible to render TTS audio on the fly in a Notification Service Extension and assign it as the notification's sound, if that is possible this is less of a problem. We also use the PushKit callback to, again if the user has enabled it, activate a "Shake to Respond" feature, allowing a short period of time after receiving an incident alert in which the user can shake their device to indicate that they are responding to the incident. There does not appear to be any way to have the level of background execution required to implement this using an NSE, and this is of course beyond the scope of the PTT framework. What options do we have to be able to continue to provide this functionality, without risk of it being disabled in a future iOS version?

Which of the certificates in the provided link should I use? Hello, We’re reaching out with a final reminder that the Certification Authority (CA) for Apple Push Notification service (APNs) is changing. APNs updated the server certificates in sandbox on January 21, 2025. APNs production server certificates will be updated on February 24, 2025. To continue using APNs without interruption, you’ll need to update your application’s Trust Store to include the new server certificate: SHA-2 Root: USERTrust RSA Certification Authority certificate. To ensure a smooth transition and avoid push notification delivery failures, please make sure that both old and new server certificates are included in the Trust Store before the cut-off date for each of your application servers that connect to sandbox and production. At this time, you don’t need to update the APNs SSL provider certificates issued to you by Apple.

Determining Maximum Height for Notification Content in Notification Content Extensions
I am working with Notification Content Extensions and need to ensure that the content fits within the notification without scrolling. I want to know if there is any API that can provide the maximum available height for the notification content area. My goal is to avoid making the content scrollable inside the notification. Is there a way to dynamically retrieve the height of the notification space, so I can properly adjust the content layout and ensure it fits perfectly without requiring the user to scroll?

No notification sound when CarPlay is connected
We're building a taxi driver app. Our goal is simple: Play a notification sound when a new ride request arrives — even if the iPhone is connected to CarPlay. We use Firebase push with "sound": "default" and "interruption-level": "time-sensitive". The app requests .carPlay and uses a category with .allowInCarPlay. Everything works when CarPlay is disconnected — we get sound and banner. But when connected to CarPlay: the push is delivered silently, no sound is played (even on the phone), Siri Announce is enabled, but nothing is spoken. Questions: Is notification sound blocked when CarPlay is active, unless the app has CarPlay entitlement? Is Siri Announce the only way to notify the driver audibly in this case? Would getting a CarPlay entitlement (e.g. CarPlay.communication) fix this without building a full CarPlay UI? Thanks — all we need is a reliable sound alert when a new ride comes in.
