Code is download from apple official metal4 sample [https://developer.apple.com/documentation/metal/drawing-a-triangle-with-metal-4?language=objc] enable metal gpu trace in macOS schema and trace a frame in Xcode. Xcode may show segment fault on App from some 'GTTrace' function when click trace button. When replay a .gputrace file, Xcode may crash , throw an internal error or a XPC error. HidHide on MacOS
I was wondering if there's a method on MacOS to have my application hide a hid device such as a game controller and instead have the receiving game/application see my app's virtual controller? Is this possible via DriverKit or some other form of kernel level coding? On Windows we have a tool known as HidHide that hids a game controller from all other applications. Is it possible to implement such behavior into an app or is that system level?

Request to restore full ICC profile support (LUT-based display profiles) in macOS ColorSync
Dear Apple Color Management Team, I’m a professional visual creator working on color-critical photo and graphic projects using macOS (currently 26.1 Tahoe). In recent macOS releases, LUT-based ICC display profiles (such as XYZ LUT + Matrix types generated by DisplayCAL or professional spectrophotometers) can no longer be installed or activated via ColorSync. This limitation significantly affects professional workflows in photography, graphic design, prepress, and video color grading — fields that rely on precise display profiling. The current workaround (converting LUT profiles to simple shaper/matrix ICC v2) results in less accurate tone response and color reproduction, particularly in the dark range and wide-gamut displays. I kindly request Apple to restore or re-enable the ability to install and use ICC v2/v4 LUT-based display profiles under ColorSync, as was possible on macOS Monterey and Ventura. How to use Unity Apple GameKit Plugin For Rule-based matchmaking?
Hello, **I'm Using ** Unity 6 LTS Unity Apple GameKit + Core plugins Turn-based matchmaking interface w/ 2 players max App Store Connect API for rule-based matchmaking I have already enabled game center in app store connect (I think) authenticated players and matched via friend request I am stuck Using queues to match players automatically I'm working on a rule-based matchmaking system which aims to place two players against each other into a GKTurnBasedMatch. I have a simple Unity Project that correctly authenticates a user and proceeds to send a matchmaking request. The matchmaking script utilizes the Unity plugins' GKTurnBasedMatchmakerViewController.Request(...) request function with a GKMatchRequest.Init() request configured with a QueueName equal to the App Store Connect API Queue I created. The queue I created is also linked to a ruleset with a very basic rule that checks if the properties contains a key called 'preference' that contains a string value for what side the player wants to play for this match. If during the matchmaking, the preferences between players are different, then the match is made and both players should join the match; each player gets to play the side they have chosen. I have my rule expression designed to just check if the preferences are not equal: requests[0].properties.faction_preference != requests[1].properties.faction_preference When I launch the game with two physical iPads and begin the matchmaking request, each player is immediately presented with two options: Invite a friend, or Start game The Problem: Inviting a friend works to get two players into a game, but queue seems to not matter, and clicking start game will just put the current player into its own match (no one joins). The Question: How do I get queue based matchmaking to work in Unity for a Turn-based match with only two players who are able to select the enemy side they want to play dictated by a rule that compares enemy play-side preferences? iOS 26 Games app: Wired Switch Pro controllers (and GameSir X5 Lite) not working correctly
Hi, Since iOS 26 introduced the new Games app, I’ve noticed a problem when using a Nintendo Switch Pro Controller in wired USB-C mode, and also with third-party controllers that emulate it (like the GameSir X5 Lite). In the Games app interface, only the L/R buttons respond, but the D-Pad and analog sticks don’t work at all. Once inside actual games, the controller works fine — the issue only affects the Games app UI. What I’ve tested so far: Xbox / PlayStation controllers → work fine in both wired and Bluetooth, including inside the Games app. Switch Pro Controller (Bluetooth) → works fine, including in the Games app. Switch Pro Controller (wired) → same issue as the X5 Lite, D-Pad and sticks don’t work in the Games app. This makes it hard to use the new Games app launcher with these controllers, even though they work perfectly once a game is launched. My question: is this an iOS bug (Apple needs to add proper support for wired Switch Pro controllers in the Games app), or something that Nintendo / GameSir would need to address? Thanks in advance to anyone who can confirm this or provide more info.

App Freezes on iPadOS 26.x - GPU Metal Errors
I work on a Qt/QML app that uses Esri Maps SDK for Qt and that is deployed to both Windows and iPads. With a recent iPad OS upgrade to 26.1, many iPad users are reporting the application freezing after panning and/or identifying features in the map. It runs fine for our Windows users. I was able to reproduce this and grabbed the following error messages when the freeze happens: IOGPUMetalError: Caused GPU Address Fault Error (0000000b:kIOGPUCommandBufferCallbackErrorPageFault) IOGPUMetalError: Invalid Resource (00000009:kIOGPUCommandBufferCallbackErrorInvalidResource) Environment: Qt 6.5.4 (Qt for iOS) Esri Maps SDK for Qt 200.3 iPadOS 26.1 Because it appears to be a Metal error, I tried using OpenGL (Qt offers a way to easily set hte target graphics api): QQuickWindow::setGraphicsApi(QSGRendererInterface::GraphicsApi::OpenGL) Which worked! No more freezing. But I'm seeing many posts that OpenGL has been deprecated by Apple. I've seen posts that Apple deprecated OpenGL ES. But it seems to still be available with iPadOS 26.1. If so, will this fix (above) just cause problems with a future iPadOS update? Any other suggestions to address this issue? Upgrading our version of Qt + Esri SDK to the latest version is not an option for us. We are in the process to upgrade the full application, but it is a year or two out. So, we just need a fix to buy us some time for now. Appreciate any thoughts/insights....

Minimal working example for TCTouchController + SpriteKit SKRenderer + Metal?
Hi, I’m trying to use the new TouchController framework together with a custom Metal rendering pipeline using SpriteKit’s SKRenderer. Right now there seems to be almost no real documentation or end-to-end example showing how the framework is intended to work. Or is it just my own inexperience that I cant get it to work? My setup is: MTKView custom Renderer SKRenderer SKScene rendering SpriteKit manually through: skRenderer.render(withViewport:commandBuffer:renderPassDescriptor:) I managed to get: Metal rendering working SpriteKit rendering through SKRenderer TCTouchController connecting successfully But I still struggle to get the actual controls to render reliably on screen. Is there any minimal working example showing: MTKView SKRenderer TCTouchController rendering controls with render(using:) all together in one pipeline? Even a very small sample project would help a lot. Thanks!

Blurry Game Center Achievement Images?
Hey all — I’ve been building out my first set of Game Center Achievements for a game I’m working on, and I’ve run into something odd with the image quality. The specs say to upload icons at 512x512 or 1024x1024@2x. I’ve been uploading 1024x1024 PNGs (without explicitly naming them “@2x” since there’s only one upload slot), assuming that Game Center would just handle the scaling automatically — kind of like how a lot of things are getting more streamlined across platforms lately. But in testing, the icons are showing up a bit blurry, especially in the Game Center interface. It’s not horrible, but it’s definitely softer than I expected — more like low-res than Retina. All my test devices (outside the Simulator) are running iOS 26, so I’m also wondering if this might be a beta-related display bug? Has anyone else run into this? Curious if I’m missing a best practice here, or if I really do need to ensure I’m uploading it with the @2x suffix, or maybe something else entirely? Thanks!

CGSetDisplayTransferByTable is broken on macOS Tahoe 26.4 RC (and 26.3.1) with MacBook M5 Pro, Max and Neo
The CGSetDisplayTransferByTable() is not working on the latest round of Mac hardware, namely the MacBook Neo (external display), MacBook M5 Pro (both built-in and external display) and possibly the M5 Max. All tested apps (BetterDisplay, MonitorControl, f.lux, Lunar) exhibit the very issue both in macOS Tahoe 26.3 and macOS Tahoe 26.4 RC. Tested on multiple Macs and installations on the MacBook Neo and MacBook M5 Pro. This issue breaks several display related macOS apps. Way to reproduce the issue using an affected app: Install the app BetterDisplay (https://betterdisplay.pro) Launch the app, open the app menu, choose Image Adjustments and try to adjust colors. Metal 4: When is it ok to dealloc a MTLBuffer's memory
I have something like this drawing in an MTKView (see at bottom). I am finding it difficult to figure out when can the Swift-land resources used in making the MTLBuffer(s) be released? Below, for example, is it ok if args goes out of scope (or is otherwise deallocated) at point 1, 2, or 3? Or perhaps even earlier, as soon as argsBuffer has been created? I have been reading through various articles such as Setting resource storage modes Choosing a resource storage mode for Apple GPUs Copying data to a private resource but it's a lot to absorb and I haven't been really able to find an authoritative description of the required lifetime of the resources in CPU land. I should mention that this is Metal 4 code. In previous versions of Metal, the MTLCommandBuffer had the ability to add a completion handler to be called by the GPU after it has finished running the commands in the buffer but in Metal 4 there is no such thing (it it were even needed for the purpose I am interested in). SpriteKit framerate drop on iOS 26.4 (ongoing for months)
I have noticed that the performance drop on SpriteKit-based projects running on iOS 26 is still ongoing With iOS 26 back in Sep 2025 a framerate problem was introduced. My app was always running smoothly with 60fps even on very old devices suddenly started to stutter with 40fps - and lower on a rather normal iPhone 13. This problem continued with BETA 26.1 The problem was fixed in 26.2. How to Apple Unity Plugins
When running my game in the Unity Editor on Windows platform I get an error: DllNotFoundException: GameKitWrapper assembly:<unknown assembly> type:<unknown type> member:(null) Apple.GameKit.DefaultNSErrorHandler.Init () (at ./Library/PackageCache/com.apple.unityplugin.gamekit@0abcad546f73/Source/DefaultHandlers.cs:35) This is because GameKitWrapper dynamically linked library is not available under Windows platform. Besides, "Apple Build Settings" are declared under UNITY_EDITOR_OSX and also not available under Windows platform. Does anyone managed to solve this?

Race conditions when changing CAMetalLayer.drawableSize?
Is the pseudocode below thread-safe? Imagine that the Main thread sets the CAMetalLayer's drawableSize to a new size meanwhile the rendering thread is in the middle of rendering into an existing MTLDrawable which does still have the old size. Is the change of metalLayer.drawableSize thread-safe in the sense that I can present an old MTLDrawable which has a different resolution than the current value of metalLayer.drawableSize? I assume that setting the drawableSize property informs Metal that the next MTLDrawable offered by the CAMetalLayer should have the new size, right? Xcode 26 – "Manage Game Progress" not showing achievements/leaderboards on macOS
Hello, When testing GameKit "Manage Game Progress" in Xcode 26: On iOS devices, achievements, leaderboards, and party code data display and work correctly. On macOS devices, none of these data appear in "Manage Game Progress." Is this a known issue with macOS GameKit, or is there a limitation compared to iOS? If it is not a bug, is there any additional configuration needed to make achievements and leaderboards visible on macOS? I also included the GameKit bundle in my macOS app and enabled Enable Debug Mode in GameKit Configuration in the scheme options. Thank you.

Anchor an Reality scene on an image anchor

iPhone Failed to pair Xbox One gamepad after updating to iOS 26.5
One of my users updated his iPhone 16 Pro to iOS 26.5, and Apple TV to tvOS 26.5, both of them unable to pair a Microsoft Xbox One (Model 1708) gamepad, before updating (updated from iOS 18.x) it works normally. He also got an old iPhone on iOS 16.7 which was working fine with that gamepad. Any one met the same issue? feedback no. FB22809309

Setting the displayScale value on RealityView has no effect
Hi, I'm trying to set the displayScale environment value for a RealityView, so it renders at 2x instead of 3x on the iPhone, but it seems to have no effect. .environment(\.displayScale, 2.0) Is this expected behavior, or a bug? The reason I want it to render at 2x and not at the default 3x is for game optimization and performance.

iOS 26 Games app: Wired Switch Pro controllers (and GameSir X5 Lite) not working correctly
Hi, Since iOS 26 introduced the new Games app, I’ve noticed a problem when using a Nintendo Switch Pro Controller in wired USB-C mode, and also with third-party controllers that emulate it (like the GameSir X5 Lite). In the Games app interface, only the L/R buttons respond, but the D-Pad and analog sticks don’t work at all. Once inside actual games, the controller works fine — the issue only affects the Games app UI. What I’ve tested so far: Xbox / PlayStation controllers → work fine in both wired and Bluetooth, including inside the Games app. Switch Pro Controller (Bluetooth) → works fine, including in the Games app. Switch Pro Controller (wired) → same issue as the X5 Lite, D-Pad and sticks don’t work in the Games app. This makes it hard to use the new Games app launcher with these controllers, even though they work perfectly once a game is launched. My question: is this an iOS bug (Apple needs to add proper support for wired Switch Pro controllers in the Games app), or something that Nintendo / GameSir would need to address? App Freezes on iPadOS 26.x - GPU Metal Errors
I work on a Qt/QML app that uses Esri Maps SDK for Qt and that is deployed to both Windows and iPads. With a recent iPad OS upgrade to 26.1, many iPad users are reporting the application freezing after panning and/or identifying features in the map. It runs fine for our Windows users. I was able to reproduce this and grabbed the following error messages when the freeze happens: IOGPUMetalError: Caused GPU Address Fault Error (0000000b:kIOGPUCommandBufferCallbackErrorPageFault) IOGPUMetalError: Invalid Resource (00000009:kIOGPUCommandBufferCallbackErrorInvalidResource) Environment: Qt 6.5.4 (Qt for iOS) Esri Maps SDK for Qt 200.3 iPadOS 26.1 Because it appears to be a Metal error, I tried using OpenGL (Qt offers a way to easily set hte target graphics api): QQuickWindow::setGraphicsApi(QSGRendererInterface::GraphicsApi::OpenGL) Which worked! No more freezing. But I'm seeing many posts that OpenGL has been deprecated by Apple. I've seen posts that Apple deprecated OpenGL ES. But it seems to still be available with iPadOS 26.1. If so, will this fix (above) just cause problems with a future iPadOS update? Any other suggestions to address this issue? Upgrading our version of Qt + Esri SDK to the latest version is not an option for us. We are in the process to upgrade the full application, but it is a year or two out. So, we just need a fix to buy us some time for now. Appreciate any thoughts/insights....

Minimal working example for TCTouchController + SpriteKit SKRenderer + Metal?
Hi, I’m trying to use the new TouchController framework together with a custom Metal rendering pipeline using SpriteKit’s SKRenderer. Right now there seems to be almost no real documentation or end-to-end example showing how the framework is intended to work. Or is it just my own inexperience that I cant get it to work? My setup is: MTKView custom Renderer SKRenderer SKScene rendering SpriteKit manually through: skRenderer.render(withViewport:commandBuffer:renderPassDescriptor:) I managed to get: Metal rendering working SpriteKit rendering through SKRenderer TCTouchController connecting successfully But I still struggle to get the actual controls to render reliably on screen. Is there any minimal working example showing: MTKView SKRenderer TCTouchController rendering controls with render(using:) all together in one pipeline? Even a very small sample project would help a lot. Thanks!

Blurry Game Center Achievement Images?
Hey all — I’ve been building out my first set of Game Center Achievements for a game I’m working on, and I’ve run into something odd with the image quality. The specs say to upload icons at 512x512 or 1024x1024@2x. I’ve been uploading 1024x1024 PNGs (without explicitly naming them “@2x” since there’s only one upload slot), assuming that Game Center would just handle the scaling automatically — kind of like how a lot of things are getting more streamlined across platforms lately. But in testing, the icons are showing up a bit blurry, especially in the Game Center interface. It’s not horrible, but it’s definitely softer than I expected — more like low-res than Retina. All my test devices (outside the Simulator) are running iOS 26, so I’m also wondering if this might be a beta-related display bug? Has anyone else run into this? Curious if I’m missing a best practice here, or if I really do need to ensure I’m uploading it with the @2x suffix, or maybe something else entirely? Thanks!

CGSetDisplayTransferByTable is broken on macOS Tahoe 26.4 RC (and 26.3.1) with MacBook M5 Pro, Max and Neo
The CGSetDisplayTransferByTable() is not working on the latest round of Mac hardware, namely the MacBook Neo (external display), MacBook M5 Pro (both built-in and external display) and possibly the M5 Max. All tested apps (BetterDisplay, MonitorControl, f.lux, Lunar) exhibit the very issue both in macOS Tahoe 26.3 and macOS Tahoe 26.4 RC. Tested on multiple Macs and installations on the MacBook Neo and MacBook M5 Pro. This issue breaks several display related macOS apps. Way to reproduce the issue using an affected app: Install the app BetterDisplay (https://betterdisplay.pro) Launch the app, open the app menu, choose Image Adjustments and try to adjust colors. Metal 4: When is it ok to dealloc a MTLBuffer's memory
I have something like this drawing in an MTKView (see at bottom). I am finding it difficult to figure out when can the Swift-land resources used in making the MTLBuffer(s) be released? Below, for example, is it ok if args goes out of scope (or is otherwise deallocated) at point 1, 2, or 3? Or perhaps even earlier, as soon as argsBuffer has been created? I have been reading through various articles such as Setting resource storage modes Choosing a resource storage mode for Apple GPUs Copying data to a private resource but it's a lot to absorb and I haven't been really able to find an authoritative description of the required lifetime of the resources in CPU land. I should mention that this is Metal 4 code. In previous versions of Metal, the MTLCommandBuffer had the ability to add a completion handler to be called by the GPU after it has finished running the commands in the buffer but in Metal 4 there is no such thing (it it were even needed for the purpose I am interested in). SpriteKit framerate drop on iOS 26.4 (ongoing for months)
I have noticed that the performance drop on SpriteKit-based projects running on iOS 26 is still ongoing With iOS 26 back in Sep 2025 a framerate problem was introduced. My app was always running smoothly with 60fps even on very old devices suddenly started to stutter with 40fps - and lower on a rather normal iPhone 13. This problem continued with BETA 26.1 The problem was fixed in 26.2. How to Apple Unity Plugins
When running my game in the Unity Editor on Windows platform I get an error: DllNotFoundException: GameKitWrapper assembly:<unknown assembly> type:<unknown type> member:(null) Apple.GameKit.DefaultNSErrorHandler.Init () (at ./Library/PackageCache/com.apple.unityplugin.gamekit@0abcad546f73/Source/DefaultHandlers.cs:35) This is because GameKitWrapper dynamically linked library is not available under Windows platform. Besides, "Apple Build Settings" are declared under UNITY_EDITOR_OSX and also not available under Windows platform. Does anyone managed to solve this?

Manage Game Progress Device List Not Populating
Hello - Upon enabling debug mode for GameKit configuration for my iOS app, I do not see any devices (my iPhone or simulators) in the device list within the "Manage Game Progress" debug tool. I only see my Mac as a device. Is there any trick to this or a way to add devices to this list? Thank you

Race conditions when changing CAMetalLayer.drawableSize?
Is the pseudocode below thread-safe? Imagine that the Main thread sets the CAMetalLayer's drawableSize to a new size meanwhile the rendering thread is in the middle of rendering into an existing MTLDrawable which does still have the old size. Is the change of metalLayer.drawableSize thread-safe in the sense that I can present an old MTLDrawable which has a different resolution than the current value of metalLayer.drawableSize? I assume that setting the drawableSize property informs Metal that the next MTLDrawable offered by the CAMetalLayer should have the new size, right? Is it valid to assume that "metalLayer.drawableSize = newSize" and "metalLayer.nextDrawable()" are internally synchronized, so it cannot happen that metalLayer.nextDrawable() would produce e.g. a MTLDrawable with the old width but with the new height (or a completely invalid resolution due to potential race conditions)? func onWindowResized(newSize: CGSize) { // Called on the Main thread metalLayer.drawableSize = newSize } func onVsync(drawable: MTLDrawable) { // Called on a background rendering thread renderer.renderInto(drawable: drawable) }

Xcode 26 – "Manage Game Progress" not showing achievements/leaderboards on macOS
Hello, When testing GameKit "Manage Game Progress" in Xcode 26: On iOS devices, achievements, leaderboards, and party code data display and work correctly. On macOS devices, none of these data appear in "Manage Game Progress." Is this a known issue with macOS GameKit, or is there a limitation compared to iOS? If it is not a bug, is there any additional configuration needed to make achievements and leaderboards visible on macOS? I also included the GameKit bundle in my macOS app and enabled Enable Debug Mode in GameKit Configuration in the scheme options. Thank you.

No depth attachment in the new MTL4RenderPipelineDescriptor ?
