Missing DirectX Calls for Tearing and Depth Bound Test in D3DMetal and GPTK 3
I want to address the missing or incomplete DirectX calls from D3DMetal and Game Porting Toolkit 3. These missing calls have in part caused issue with our porting process and we are reconsidering. Missing or Incomplete Calls DXGI_FEATURE_PRESENT_ALLOW_TEARING — IDXGIFactory5::CheckFeatureSupport — this calls has to do with how VSync is handled and some modern games require it to initialize. Currently D3DMetal return 0 maybe by design but most likely because it’s not integrated. Adding a stub that returns 1 can fix this. I’m my use case I simply Noped the check and forced it to continue. D3D12_FEATURE_D3D12_OPTIONS2.DepthBoundsTestSupported — this call is also not present. Which causes games to not initialize rendering. Thankfully this was fixed by once again skipping the check. But this is essential for water rendering. This could be one reason currently water is not rendering in our game. IDXGIOutput6::GetDesc1().ColorSpace — returns DXGI_COLOR_SPACE_RGB_FULL_G22_NONE_P709 (SDR) on external HDR compatible displays. We were able to fix this by forcing HDR to be enabled. It should return HDR support. These calls may exist but they need to be updated to return the correct values. Specifically for depth bound test you can reference MoltenVK which sets it up on top of Metal since it’s not a native feature. The water issue could be also an issue with how the shaders are compiled. But I’m unable to check because of the closed source nature of GPTK and its debuggers. What is a better way we can debug our game to see why the water isn’t rendering. Does D3DMetal have some debug options or something similar? Feedback Number FB22330617 - Missing DirectX Calls for Tearing and Depth Bound Test in D3DMetal and GPTK 3 We hope these issues are resolved quickly because we were thinking of a simultaneous release with our Windows version, but we can't ship with such large bugs.

Does VisionOS have the equivalent of ARView.physicsOrigin?
I'm trying to scale the physics of a scene without changing the apparent size to avoid the low-speed zeroing-out of motion that the physics simulation does. I found a technique for using separate simulation and physics roots in the docs, but it relies on ARView, which VisionOS doesn't have. This seems more elegant than scaling absolutely everything with shared root -- any chance I'm just failing in my searches to find the equivalent functionality?

How to use MetalPeformancePrimitives
I am trying to learn the new Metal Peformance Primitives APIs. I have added the MetalPeformancePrimitives framework and included the header in my shader code as per documentation #include <MetalPeformancePrimitives/MetalPeformancePrimitives.h> Unfortunately, Xcode complains that the header cannot be found. How do I include it properly? I am using Xcode 26 on Tahoe. The MetalPeformancePrimitives framework is present on my machine and I can inspect the headers in the filesystem.

Low Power Mode on MacOS 26 Tahoe + Vsync fullscreen limits application to 30 fps
I'm experiencing a specific issue where when using any of the MacOS 26 Tahoe betas with Low Power Mode enabled and using Vsync in fullscreen, my application framerate gets limited to a hard 30 fps. I have not experienced this on any older OS. For example Low Power Mode on 13.6 Ventura with Vsync fullscreen lets my application run at full 60 fps without issues. Is this a bug or a change in behavior of Low Power Mode on Tahoe? My application is 3D, runs at 60 fps and is sensitive to tearing, so I need Vsync and it is mostly utilized in fullscreen. And Low Power Mode is a default for many Macs, so default experience on Tahoe currently is a halved 30 fps. However there also seems to be inconsistencies of on which machines this happens, but older OSes are always fine.

RealityKit VideoMaterial renders pink on iOS 18
our app is live, and it appears that since the ios 18 update - the VideoMaterial renders pink / purple color instead of the video (picture attached). the audio is rendered properly. we found that it occurs on old devices: iPhone 11 & iPhone SE 2020. I've found this thread of Andy Jazz on stackoverflow: Steps to Reproduce: Create a plane for the video screen. Apply a VideoMaterial using AVPlayerItem. Anchor the model entity to an ARImageAnchor. Expected Outcome: The video should play as a material on the plane in RealityKit. Actual Outcome: On iOS 18, the plane appears pink, indicating the VideoMaterial isn’t applied. What I’ve Tried: -Verified the video URL is correct. -Checked that the AVPlayerItem and VideoMaterial are initialised correctly. -Ensured the AVPlayer is playing the video. I also tried different formats (mov / mp4 / m4v), and verifying that the video's status is readyToPlay. any suggestions?

Metal runtime shader library compilation and linking issue
In my project I need to do the following: In runtime create metal Dynamic library from source. Compute kernel fails to compile when calling texture.read()
If I compile a compute kernel with a call to texture.read(), it fails with the following error: "Error Domain=AGXMetalG13X Code=3 "Encountered unlowered function call to air.get_read_sampler" UserInfo={NSLocalizedDescription=Encountered unlowered function call to air.get_read_sampler}." This error occurs on both macOS and iOS 26 Beta 5, but not when running on a simulator or in a playground. It does not occur on a macOS Sequoia VM. It occurs whether I use the old metal 3 or new metal 4 compilation method. A workaround would be to use a sampler, but according to the feature tables, all platforms support reading from textures of all formats. Below is a minimal example which produces the error: let device = MTLCreateSystemDefaultDevice()! let library = device.makeDefaultLibrary()! let computeFunction = library.makeFunction(name: "compute_test")! do { let pipeline = try device.makeComputePipelineState(function: computeFunction) debugPrint(pipeline) } catch { debugPrint("Metal 3 failed with error:\n\(error)") } #import <metal_stdlib> using namespace metal; kernel void compute_test(uint2 gid [[thread_position_in_grid]], texture2d<float, access::read> in [[texture(0)]], texture2d<float, access::write> out [[texture(1)]]) { out.write(in.read(gid), gid); } I filed feedback FB19530049.

Will OpenGL API and Drivers be removed after appleOS 26?
Hi, I am a Multimedia and Graphics researcher and I am wondering if OpenGL API and drivers will be removed after appleOS 26? macOS 26 iOS 26 iPadOS 26 visionOS 26 I am asking this because most of the libraries I use depends on OpenGL. Like CGAL, libigl, immediate mode ui, nanovg, nanogui, bullet physics. Transitioning from Vulkan and metal while using and learning those libraries is just not viable. I would like to ask you that. I am the sole developer and I just want to ask you that. Regards.

How to detect which entity was tapped?
Hi, I'm rewriting my game from SceneKit to RealityKit, and I'm having trouble implementing the following scenario: I tap on the iPhone screen to select an Entity that I want to drag. If an Entity was tapped, it should then be possible to drag it left, right, etc. SceneKit solution: func CGPointToSCNVector3(_ view: SCNView, depth: Float, point: CGPoint) -> SCNVector3 { let projectedOrigin = view.projectPoint(SCNVector3Make(0, 0, Float(depth))) let locationWithz = SCNVector3Make(Float(point.x), Float(point.y), Float(projectedOrigin.z)) return view.unprojectPoint(locationWithz) } and then I was calling: SCNView().hitTest(location, options: [SCNHitTestOption.firstFoundOnly:true]) the code was called inside of the UIPanGestureRecognizer in my UIViewController. Could I reuse that code or should I go with the SwiftUI approach - something like that: var body: some View { RealityView { .... } .gesture(TapGesture().onEnded { }) ? I already have this code: @State private var location: CGPoint? .onTapGesture { location in self.location = location } I'm trying to identify the entity that was tapped within the RealityView like that: RealityView { content in let box: ModelEntity = createBox() // for now there is only one box, however there will be many boxes content.add(box) let anchor = AnchorEntity(world: [0, 0, 0]) content.add(anchor) _ = content.subscribe(to: SceneEvents.Update.self) { event in //TODO: find tapped entity, so that it could be dragged inside of the DragGesture() } Any help would be appreciated. I also noticed that if I create a TapGesture like that: TapGesture(count: 1) .targetedToAnyEntity() and add it to my view using .gesture() then it is not triggered.

App not showing in Game Center “All Activity” after release
Hello — I shipped an App Store build that signs in to Game Center using the Apple Unity Plugins (GameKit). The login banner appears, but my app still doesn’t show up in Game Center’s “All activity” (You started playing XXX 2d ago) What I’ve done Call await GKLocalPlayer.Authenticate(); “Game Center” is enabled for the current version in App Store Connect Confirmed: other App Store games do appear under “All Activity” on the same device/account Timeline: This is the first version that enables Game Center (not the app’s first release), and it has been about 2 hours since this build went live. Questions Is authentication alone sufficient for “Recently Played,” or is at least one Game Center component (leaderboards, achievements, activities, multiplayer) required? Is there a typical propagation delay before “Recently Played” starts showing a newly enabled app/version? Is there anything else I should configure in App Store Connect or entitlements to make “Recently Played” visible? Thanks for any help.

Scenekit view and scenekit editor color difference
Hello there, I'm having trouble matching what I see in the scenekit editor and the output of the resulting scene in a scnview. For a glitter effect I have set a high value on the diffuse intensity which looks fine in the editor but when running the game the colors are much darker. To see if the intensity value is merely capped I have set the same multiplier on the hat below - but it is blown out which looks to me like there is some grading going on I have tried to switch on hdr rendering but that didn't make a difference. I tried disabling linear rendering and that simply made everything darker still - which I expect. Does someone have an idea what else this could be? What rendering is the scenekit editor using and how can I match it? Interestingly when I take a screenshot of the editor window for this post, the image is also blown out... what is going on? :) Thanks so much for any pointers, Seb

GameKit Configuration File - Apple Documentation out of Date
This is the first time I have tried adding achievements to my games. The online documentation says: "Before you can access achievements in your code, you can configure them in Xcode and sync the configuration updates you make with App Store Connect. Begin configuring achievements by creating a GameKit configuration file. In Xcode, choose File > New > File from Template. Select GameKit File, and click Next. In the sheet that appears, enter a name for the configuration and click Create." Sounds easy - except Xcode 16.2 does not have a GameKit File as one of the Templates. Please advise on how to proceed and it would be nice if the documentation were updated.

Is there any future for screensavers on macOS?
I haven't been looking at screensavers for a long time because of Apple's lack of will (or resources?) to provide a public version of the private modern SDK used by Apple for a very long time now. I'm now looking at the Screen Saver pane in System Settings (the What-If version of System Preferences in an alternate universe where all screens are in portrait mode). In macOS Sequoia, it seems like 3rd party screensavers are not welcome considering that they are relegated to the "Other" section at the bottom of the list and you have to click Show All to start seeing 3rd party screen savers. I also had a quick look at macOS Tahoe Beta 3 and it looks like that all the real screensavers are gone (3rd party and the ones from Apple: Hello, Message, Flurry, etc.) or at least it requires to be a Nobel Prize to find them (and the Search field is not useful). I tried to install a 3rd party screen saver on macOS Tahoe Beta 3, it doesn't show up in the list. To summarize: No public access to modern APIs AFAIK. UI that is hostile to 3rd party screen savers on macOS Sequoia. Apparently only screensavers that are slideshows or movies curated by Apple in macOS Tahoe b3. Hence the question: Is there any future for screen savers on macOS? Because if there's none, I won't waste my time trying to update some old screen savers.

Metal 4: Proper usage of requestResidency() with unique per-frame textures at 120fps
Hello, I have some confusion regarding ResidencySet. Specifically, about the requestResidency() function: how often should we call it? I have a captureOutput(_:didOutput:from:) method that is triggered at 60 or 120 fps. Inside this method, I am calling the following code every frame: computeResidencySet.removeAllAllocations() сomputeResidencySet.addAllocation(TextureA) computeResidencySet.addAllocation(TextureB) computeResidencySet.addAllocation(TextureC) computeResidencySet.commit() computeResidencySet.requestResidency() // Should we call it every frame? Please keep in mind that TextureA, TextureB, and TextureC are unique for each call (new instances are provided on every frame)."

CGSetDisplayTransferByTable no longer working on macOS Tahoe
For an app of mine I use CGSetDisplayTransferByTable to adjust the gamma table of the device. Since macOS Tahoe, these modifications are silently ignored. The display's actual gamma curve remains unchanged despite the API reporting successful completion. I've filed a FB for it a few weeks ago, and would love to figure out what could be causing this. SceneKit is now deprecated - when it will be removed?
Now that SceneKit has been marked as soft deprecated, is there a planned date or timeframe when it will be completely removed from iOS? I’m concerned about how long my existing SceneKit-based game will continue to work, especially as an indie developer without the resources for a quick rewrite to RealityKit.
