I can not activate AX88179 anymore after I have updated my mac to version 11.5 although On 11.4 Big Sur, everything was still be ok.
I also check extensionsctl list on command prompt and it shows as follows:
mabook@mabooks-MBP ~ % systemextensionsctl list
2 extension(s)
--- com.apple.system_extension.driver_extension
enabled active teamID bundleID (version) name [state]
5RHFAZ9D4P com.asix.dext.usbdevice (1.2.0/1.2.0) com.asix.dext.usbdevice [terminating for uninstall but still running]
5RHFAZ9D4P com.asix.dext.usbdevice (1.2.0/1.2.0) com.asix.dext.usbdevice [activated waiting to upgrade on reboot]
How should I deal with this problem to connect to Ethernet
On wake from sleep the Mac Studio's Desktop picture is shown in actual resolution instead of stretched to fit screen. For example, a picture which is 2059 × 1371 is shown at that resolution on a 5K Retina screen and so only fills about 60% of the screen area. It starts with the picture positioned in the top left corner but sometimes moves down the screen. This behaviour does not change if the screen is scaled up or down – the picture size is also scaled.
Notice that icons on the Desktop are displayed in the correct position.
At the same time, the Dock is shown at the bottom of the picture instead of at the bottom of the screen.
Usually, the Desktop redisplays correctly. But increasingly, the only solution is to log out and in again.
This might be related to my other question on the Desktop picture Pref Pane.
See attached example which is a full screen capture i.e. command-shift-3 (with my personal details obscured):
Open an existing contact
Click Edit —> Add Birthday
Select Date and Save
Close the contact app
Come back to the same contact, the birthday is gone.
Mac users often ask whether they should install "anti-virus" software. The answer usually given on ASC is "no." The answer is right, but it may give the wrong impression that there is no threat from what are loosely called "viruses." There is a threat, and you need to educate yourself about it.
This is a comment on what you should—and should not—do to protect yourself from malicious software ("malware") that circulates on the Internet and gets onto a computer as an unintended consequence of the user's actions. It does not apply to software, such as keystroke loggers, that may be installed deliberately by an intruder who has hands-on access to the computer, or who has been able to log in to it remotely. That threat is in a different category, and there's no easy way to defend against it.
The comment is long because the issue is complex. The key points are in sections 5, 6, and 10.
OS X now implements three layers of built-in protection specifically against malware, not counting runtime protections such as execute disable, sandboxing, system library randomization, and address space layout randomization that may also guard against other kinds of exploits.
2. All versions of OS X since 10.6.7 have been able to detect known Mac malware in downloaded files, and to block insecure web plugins. This feature is transparent to the user. Internally Apple calls it "XProtect."
The malware recognition database used by XProtect is automatically updated; however, you shouldn't rely on it, because the attackers are always at least a day ahead of the defenders.
The following caveats apply to XProtect:
☞ It can be bypassed by some third-party networking software, such as BitTorrent clients and Java applets.
☞ It only applies to software downloaded from the network. Software installed from a CD or other media is not checked.
As new versions of OS X are released, it's not clear whether Apple will indefinitely continue to maintain the XProtect database of older versions such as 10.6. The security of obsolete system versions may eventually be degraded. Security updates to the code of obsolete systems will stop being released at some point, and that may leave them open to other kinds of attack besides malware.
3. Starting with OS X 10.7.5, there has been a second layer of built-in malware protection, designated "Gatekeeper" by Apple. By default, applications and Installer packages downloaded from the network will only run if they're digitally signed by a developer with a certificate issued by Apple. Software certified in this way hasn't necessarily been tested by Apple, but you can be reasonably sure that it hasn't been modified by anyone other than the developer. His identity is known to Apple, so he could be held legally responsible if he distributed malware. That may not mean much if the developer lives in a country with a weak legal system (see below.)
Gatekeeper doesn't depend on a database of known malware. It has, however, the same limitations as XProtect, and in addition the following:
☞ It can easily be disabled or overridden by the user.
☞ A malware attacker could get control of a code-signing certificate under false pretenses, or could simply ignore the consequences of distributing codesigned malware.
☞ An App Store developer could find a way to bypass Apple's oversight, or the oversight could fail due to human error.
Apple has so far failed to revoke the codesigning certificates of some known abusers, thereby diluting the value of Gatekeeper and the Developer ID program. These failures don't involve App Store products, however.
For the reasons given, App Store products, and—to a lesser extent—other applications recognized by Gatekeeper as signed, are safer than others, but they can't be considered absolutely safe. "Sandboxed" applications may prompt for access to private data, such as your contacts, or for access to the network. Think before granting that access. Sandbox security is based on user input. Never click through any request for authorization without thinking.
4. Starting with OS X 10.8.3, a third layer of protection has been added: a "Malware Removal Tool" (MRT). MRT runs automatically in the background when you update the OS. It checks for, and removes, malware that may have evaded the other protections via a Java exploit (see below.) MRT also runs when you install or update the Apple-supplied Java runtime (but not the Oracle runtime.) Like XProtect, MRT is effective against known threats, but not against unknown ones. It notifies you if it finds malware, but otherwise there's no user interface to MRT.
5. The built-in security features of OS X reduce the risk of malware attack, but they are not, and never will be, complete protection. Malware is a problem of human behavior, and a technological fix is not going to solve it. Trusting software to protect you will only make you more vulnerable.
The best defense is always going to be your own intelligence. With the possible exception of Java exploits, all known malware circulating on the Internet that affects a fully-updated installation of OS X 10.6 or later takes the form of so-called "****** horses," which can only have an effect if the victim is duped into running them. The threat therefore amounts to a battle of wits between you and the scam artists. If you're smarter than they think you are, you'll win. That means, in practice, that you always stay within a safe harbor of computing practices.

hi.
I have a MacPro 2019, and I'm running Monterey at the moment.
I have three screens. Two 4k screens, and a XDR in the center of them.
My MacPro 2019 boots with the left screen showing the startup and login screen. I've previously had it boot to my XDR before the others. I'm not entirely sure why it moved to the left, but I need it back on the center screen.
We used to just drag a happy mac icon from screens in the displays system preference. I don't see any method to change this startup and login screen.
How do I choose the permanent bootup and startup screen (as my XDR!).
Thanks.
Dave
Hi guys,
I want to build a referral program wherein current users are rewarded for inviting friends to join my app/website.
I also wanted to keep the accounts linked so that recruiting users can get rewarded every time a new user they recruited purchases something.
I want to just give the users points, I'm not offering cash or subscription discounts. similar to how game invites work.
through my research into the topic I have found dynamic links with flutter and firebase. deep deferred links, QR code deferred links, and some work around that included taking the user to a website copying the code to their clipboard, then pasting it into a hidden textfield to verify and track the code
can anyone help me get started?
Hey Developers! Help!
I was going through the "Eligibilty" doc for swift student challenge (https://developer.apple.com/swift-student-challenge/eligibility/), where it is mentioned to "Be registered for free with Apple as an Apple developer or be a member of the Apple Developer Program".
Please guide me how do we do this free egisteration as the only option I can see on the devleoper app is to pay for it.

Earlier this month, Apple Classical appeared as an app in CarPlay. Hallelujah!!! Three days later it disappeared after another update, apparently because all it did when activated via CarPlay was crash. OK, it was an oopsie (I get it. I spent 30 years in IT, and, well, it happens. They’re called “undocumented features”). Thing is: Apple hasn’t breathed a word about this event at all. Nothing. Nada. Zip. Zippo. Zilch. There’s a huge pent-up audience for this app in CarPlay. Is it coming? Please? Oh please oh please oh please?

The eagle-eyed amongst you might have noticed a recent change to the information about deployment targets in the Swift Student Challenge fine print. Here’s a short FAQ about that. If you have any follow-up questions, post them below and I’ll answer them there.
Can I use iPadOS 17 APIs in my submission?
Yes. We expect to review your submission on the latest public release of iPadOS.
Does that include APIs introduced in a dot release?
Yes.
Right now the latest public release of iPadOS is iPadOS 17.3.1. If your submission relies on an API introduced in, say, iPadOS 17.2, that’s absolutely fine.
My iPad doesn’t support iPadOS 17. Can I ask for a review on iPadOS 16?
iPadOS 17 is generally compatible with iPadOS 16. If we notice problems with your submission on iPadOS 17, we’ll retest it on the latest public release of iPadOS 16.
What about macOS?
It’s basically the same story. So, if your submission targets macOS, we expect to review it on the latest public release.

Hi,
I have the following predicate used in a SwiftData Query:
#Predicate<Item> {
searchText.isEmpty || $0.myarray.contains(where: {
$0.text.localizedStandardContains(searchText)
})
})
Even though this compiles, I get the unsupportedKeyPath error in the logs:
Query encountered an error: SwiftData.SwiftDataError(_error: SwiftData.SwiftDataError._Error.unsupportedKeyPath)
I thought I could use .contains(where:) inside predicates, but this doesn't work. What could be the problem?
Item.myarray is an array of a Codable struct type, and searchText is a String.
Hi,
I have submitted my playground for the Swift Student Challenge 2024. As in the competition guidelines it does not state that the app is going to be tested on a certain iPad Pro model- 12.9 or 11. However, my playground is only optimized for 12.9 as there are no specific rules on thee device it is being tested on. I have already submitted my playground so how will I inform the judges which iPad they have to test it on?
Thanks :)
Hello,
I have submitted an application about a day ago before the deadline, but still have not received a confirmation email. I've tried to contact customer service about it, but I haven't gotten an answer back yet. Is there still a chance that they received my application?
Since there is no theme for the Swift Student Challenge, could we prepare an app far ahead in advance? Like, work on the 2025 challenge right now?
We are implementing Sign Up with Apple ID and facing the following issue:
Email is returned only on the first response. All subsequent responses for this user do not return email. But our system is email-driven.
So, if user first signs up on our TST environment then we will not be able to Sign up this user on UAT and Prod without an email in response.
Could anyone please advise how to approach this problem.
Hello,
I’m a 15-year-old winner of the Swift Student Challenge (in the regular group). When applying to attend WWDC, it asks me to choose who I am requesting for. The options are my name, and then “An attendee who is 13–17 years old.”
If both are true for me, which do I choose? I’m mainly asking because if I don’t choose the latter, it doesn’t ask me for my parent‘s contact info.
Please let me know!
Thanks in advance.
my safari keeps refreshing the page and then i get an error about there's a probelm with the site is there anyway to fix this
When can the winners expect to get their free year of individual membership in the Apple Developer Program? And for winners who already were part of the program, will they see an updated renewal date (postponed by one year compared to the original one) under Account -> Membership details?
I am installing the 14.5 beta2 update last night (however this has happened on non beta releases too) and I wake up with his morning to see the login screen. I enter my password and the update screen is “paused” with 6 minutes to go and then immediately begins completing. I’ve noticed this happening in the past as well and disregarded it. This can’t be normal during an update for the login screen to appear and stop installations.
I was forced to post this in the beta forum by Apple..
"We removed your post “Screen locking while updating macOS - stopping update because it contained information about beta software. "
