Reply to Why doesn’t Transaction.updates emit reliably?
My app is a Mac app that uses the AppKit framework. It is not a SwiftUI app, nor is it an iOS app. It uses SwiftUI for some views. The sample project code is similar to my code snippet but is built using the SwiftUI design pattern. I want Transaction.updates and Product.SubscriptionInfo.Status.updates to work, but they are not detecting the changes I make when I make purchases, nor are they detecting purchases when using the Xcode Transaction Manager. Also, I use subscriptionStatusTask(for:priority:action:) modifier where I use ProductView and it doesn't work. It is supposed to react in real time. It works if I reload the view by switching to another view and then back. I believe it is less to do with the code and is something else. Maybe the Xcode project file settings is messed up or I am missing something. I tried restarting the Mac and clearing the derived data. Likewise, as I mentioned, it works perfectly in a fresh Xcode project with a minimal setup, but it doesn’t work in my project. Why?

Reply to macOS 26 not negotiating ECN for outgoing IPv4 connections (it does for IPv6 connections)
Apple’s relationship to ECN is nuanced, largely due to compatibility concerns. If you want to be traumatised, check out the xnu/blob/main/bsd/netinet/tcp_cache.c file in Darwin and the various callsites for that subsystem. So, my answer here depends on where you’re coming from. As a developer, you have APIs that allow you to opt out and opt in to ECN. For Network framework that is the ecnDisabled(_:) modifier [1]. For BSD Sockets there is the TCP_ENABLE_ECN socket option. The system will honour your request to specifically disable ECN, but there’s no guarantee that it will honour a request to enable it. It’s allowed to take other factors into account. That’s why ecnDisabled(_:) is named as it is. Note The name of the socket option doesn’t convey that subtlety. Notably, if you rummage around in Darwin you’ll find a related non-public socket option that better captures this nuance. Both APIs do have a way to determine whether ECN was actually used. iOS printing – Finishing (Punch) options not applied for images unless a preset is selected
When printing image/photo files via AirPrint, selected finishing options (e.g., Punch) are not applied unless a preset is chosen. reproduction steps: Select an image on iOS Tap Print → choose printer/server Set Finishing Options → Punch Print Observed: Finishing options not applied IPP trace shows no finisher attributes in the request working scenario: Select any Preset (e.g., Color) before printing Finishing options are then included in IPP and applied Note: Issue does not occur when printing PDFs from iOS; finisher attributes are sent correctly. Is this expected AirPrint behavior for image jobs, or could this be a bug in how iOS constructs the IPP request for photos?

I certainly don't mean to imply that the causal arrow points from launchd to power state; the opposite, actually! I'm just working to better understand Mac sleep. (And yep, pmset -g is a fun little corner!) The reason I am interested in the precise details of when StartCalendarInterval ends up running a job is that the available resources and limits of a Mac are different in these different power states. I have to code with that in mind. Re:my scheduled job I fear it will cause you fine and patient Apple folk to bristle, as its purpose is to work around Time Machine, uh, changes I have encountered. To wit: Time Machine did not finish backing up because some files were unavailable. Backups will resume when your Mac is unlocked. can be avoided by keeping the Mac awake and unlocked (caffeinate -d) during backup. Time Machine *.sparsebundle disk not ejected properly errors can be prevented by using a script-assisted backup that verifies unmounting prior to sleep. And I can speculate all day about changes

NSFileManager getRelationship:ofDirectoryAtURL:toItemAtURL:error: returning NSURLRelationshipSame for Different Directories
I'll try to ask a question that makes sense this time :) . I'm using the following method on NSFileManager: (BOOL) getRelationship:(NSURLRelationship *) outRelationship ofDirectoryAtURL:(NSURL *) directoryURL toItemAtURL:(NSURL *) otherURL error:(NSError * *) error; Sets 'outRelationship' to NSURLRelationshipContains if the directory at 'directoryURL' directly or indirectly contains the item at 'otherURL', meaning 'directoryURL' is found while enumerating parent URLs starting from 'otherURL'. Sets 'outRelationship' to NSURLRelationshipSame if 'directoryURL' and 'otherURL' locate the same item, meaning they have the same NSURLFileResourceIdentifierKey value. If 'directoryURL' is not a directory, or does not contain 'otherURL' and they do not locate the same file, then sets 'outRelationship' to NSURLRelationshipOther. If an error occurs, returns NO and sets 'error'. So this method falsely returns NSURLRelationshipSame for different directories. One is empty, one is not. Really weird behavior. Two file

The Nightmare of Small Toolbar Icons
When building in Xcode on MacOS Tahoe, it seems it is no longer possible to dynamically specify a small size toolbar for NSToolbar/NSToolbarItem. It works in MacOS code compiled and linked on earlier systems. I don't want to use SFSymbol, or templates. I have over 60 custom-made .png toolbars, in individual Image Set files, at the previous requisite sizes of 24x24 / 48x48, and 32x32 / 64x64. Sure -- I can configure an NSToolbar with whatever size .png assets I want. I just can't dynamically switch between the two groups of sizes. According to the Apple Coding Assistant, the only solution is to change the image names of each of the NSToolbarItems at runtime. OK -- but even when attempting that, the NSToolbarItems refuse to take on their smaller size... ...unless: they are attached to a custom view NSToolbarItem with an NSButton of style Bevel. I have about 10 of those, and YES -- I CAN change those to a small size. Is this REALLY what I'm forced to do?! The Apple Coding Assistant just runs me around i

Cloud signing: Validation failed (409) Invalid Signature. Code failed to satisfy specified code requirement(s)
I'm attempting to use Cloud Signing to export the Release version of 3 different apps for App Store, as described in https://developer.apple.com/videos/play/wwdc2021/10204/ The process completes successfully, and appears to be signed correctly, with a newly-created certificate in the developer portal of type Distribution Managed. When I upload to App Store Connect however, I see the following error for several third-party Swift packages, distributed as frameworks: Validation failed (409) Invalid Signature. Code failed to satisfy specified code requirement(s). The file at path “MyApp.app/Frameworks/MyFramework.framework/MyFramework” is not properly signed. Make sure you have signed your application with a distribution certificate, not an ad hoc certificate or a development certificate. Verify that the code signing settings in Xcode are correct at the target level (which override any values at the project level). Additionally, make sure the bundle you are uploading was built using a Release target in X
