After installing macOS Big Sur Beta 3, the OS has started crashing many times per day. It appears that the following may be causing the issues: Safari Control Center WeatherWidget The Crash Reports are increasing in numbers. Next, restarting the machine isn’t an option because the system becomes unresponsive for me and must perform force shutdown. Thus, I’ll go back to Catalina for now and wait until the final release of macOS Big Sur in September or October of 2020.

Is /usr/libexec/java_home working on Big Sur for anyone? It won't output anything unless the JAVA_HOME environment variable is already set. When querying for the home folder for a specific version of the JDK, it always just returns the current value of the JAVA_HOME environment variable. Since the only useful purpose of the java_home tool is to get a value for setting JAVA_HOME, this is somewhat backwards and useless. I reported this against Big Sur betas but that didn't get anywhere. In one case I was actually told it was working as designed, which is clearly not the case.

I am trying to adopt the new MacOS Big Sur sidebar style in one of my apps. Previously I chose a source list and added the items to it which worked fine. I have selected the new template Window Controller with Sidebar in Xcode. When I run the project without adding any items or controls, it looks fine. However, if I add the Source List, the background of the side bar has some weird effect. It seems like the Column of the Source List messes up the background. How can I add items to a sidebar on MacOS Big Sur? I am running Xcode 12 beta 3 and the latest beta 3 of MacOS Big Sur - 11.0 Beta (20A5323l). Unfortunately I can not post a screenshot.

Has anyone else got this issue? I've submitted it to Apple under FB7820658. Whenever I open System Preferences and click any pane icon (Desktop & Screensaver, General, etc), the app hangs for a second and then presents me with a window titled “System Preferences Internal Error”. When macOS Big Sur was first released as a developer beta, I installed it to a separate APFS volume first. I could use System Preferences fine there. I then booted back into macOS Catalina, deleted the Big Sur volume, and installed Big Sur over Catalina, keeping all of my data. System Preferences worked fine in Catalina. The error describes “NSPrefPaneBundle supportedAppearance” - due to “Appearance” my first thought was to toggle Dark Mode from Control Centre, but that did not fix anything. I’ve restarted many times and continue to have this issue.

I have a program that has been running fine for 6 years that uploads data from a weather station (Davis Vantage Pro 2). After upgrading to Big Sur, I am getting the error message, Serial port /dev/cu.SLAB_USBtoUART failed to open. You might need root permissions. How can I fix that.

I am having a problem after updating to Big Sur. I cannot access my files, neither to those on the desktop nor in documents, after an update to Big Sur. When I check the HD usage through About this Mac Storage, I see that the files are there. It shows 66 GB is used (15 GB system, 51 GB Other). When clicking on manage storage, it lists all accessible files and then lists a folder name other 51 GB, but grayed out, not accessible.

If someone modifies a Big Sur or Monterrey boot disk and attaches it to my standard Big Sur or Monterrey machine booted from the internal will reads of the modified files succeed?

A few days ago I updated to Big Sur public beta 8, and I realized that when I try to send a message, it says not delivered. I tried logging out of messages, and when I try to sign in, it works for about 5 seconds and then shows me the log in screen again. when I try to log into FaceTime, it just doesn't work. I try using my Apple ID on other computers and it seems to work fine

Wondering if anyone is having the same issue I'm having and/or if anyone would have any idea how to fix this When I try to install Big Sur Beta 2 I keep getting Download Failed: An error occurred while downloading the selected updates. Please check your internet connection and try again. I tried resetting Software Update to non beta then install the beta setting again but that did not help... Any help / suggestions would be greatly appreciated...

I have a Swift application which shows indeterminate progress bar. When I run the app in macOS Big Sur, indeterminate bar changes to determinate progress bar. Does the Indeterminate progress bar depreciated in macOS Big Sur?

I backed up my Mac as suggested. When I called support, my main concern was that I wanted to make sure I would not lose my Chat Transcripts. The Chat Transcripts allow you to open a specific conversation on a specific date without scrolling back years. NO PROBLEM I WAS TOLD. Well, after the update to Big Sur, my chat transcript was THere, I guess one could say, but the format was changed and there isn't an app available that opens it. It is just symbols. Spent hours on the phone with support and no luck. They also advised that re-installing bac to catalina would likely not fix the issue. Has anyone else had this issue, and if so were you able to fix it. Very simply, I have some Chat Transcripts from a friend in Hospice that I wanted to print the individual pages. This all makes me very upset, especially because I called before updating to the new os.

I am using Big Sur, the photos widget doesn't show any image but it just says No content available

I have a 2015 5K 27-inch iMac (3,2 GHz Quad-Core Intel i5, 16GB RAM) with a 1TB Fusion Drive. macOS Catalina was running smoothly, but ever since I upgraded to macOS Big Sur, I've experienced general sluggishness, slower than usual startup and app launch times etc. As an experiment, I installed Big Sur onto an external Samsung T3 SSD-drive (connected via USB 3.1) and booted the iMac using it instead of the Fusion Drive. It's lightning fast! Now the question is: Should I wipe the Fusion Drive and attempt a clean install of Big Sur to see if it makes a difference or just keep using the external SSD as a boot drive? I would prefer to keep using the Fusion Drive and not rely on an external drive, of course. Thanks in advance for your insights!

Hi All, I have a question. Just after the software upgrade from Catalina to Big Sur, my mac (Macbook Air 13-inch, Early 2015) stopped mounting any usb external discs. Doesn't matter, if it's an usb ssd card reader, usb stick, or external hdd. Does anyone have a similar problem, and any possible solution? Thanks
