Putting 2 existing pdf pages side by side (half size) in a new pdf
In Swift, iOS, I have a pdf file. I want to take the pages 2 by 2 and put them side by side, on the new page. For this, I have to scale initial pages half size and rotate .pi/2. I managed to achieve this by converting pdf pages to UIImages and using a UIGraphicsImageRenderer. But with a critical loss of resolution. I've tried improving the resolution by creating images as jpegData(withCompressionQuality: 1.0), to no avail. So I would need to work directly on the pdf pages using CGPDFDocument format. The code structure is as follows, to insert a single scaled page: for iPage in … { if let _page = theCGPdfDocument.page(at: 1) { var _pageRect: CGRect = _page.getBoxRect(CGPDFBox.mediaBox) writeContextInDestination!.beginPage(mediaBox: &_pageRect) // translate to compensate for the flip caused displacement writeContextInDestination!.translateBy(x: _pageRect.size.width, y: _pageRect.size.height) Scale (-1, -1) // rotate 180° // add rotate as needed writeContextInDestination!.scaleBy(x: -1, y: -1) write

Reply to XCode 26.2 not running UItests in parallel in subsequent test runs
Adding more information on this problem. The UI tests are in a separate project in the same workspace. We split this way to reduce the amount of conflicts in the project file since the xcuitests are written by a separate team and the app project gets so many updates per day. I noticed that if I add the UI test target in the app scheme without using test plans I can run the ui tests in parallel many times in a row, but if I convert to test plans or if I keep the UI tests in a separate scheme using test plans I can run the ui tests in parallel only once and then I get this error on the subsequent tries. The only way around it is to delete the simulator and recreate it.

RealityKit animation with bindTarget: .opacity doesn't work
I want to fade objects in and out, and while setting an entity's OpacityComponent works, animating it doesn't seem to do anything. In the following code the second sphere should fade out, but it keeps its initial opacity. On the other hand, the animation that changes its transform works. What am I doing wrong? class ViewController: NSViewController { override func loadView() { let arView = ARView(frame: NSScreen.main!.frame) let anchor = AnchorEntity(.world(transform: matrix_identity_float4x4)) arView.scene.addAnchor(anchor) let sphere = ModelEntity(mesh: .generateSphere(radius: 0.5)) anchor.addChild(sphere) sphere.components.set(OpacityComponent(opacity: 0.1)) let sphere2 = ModelEntity(mesh: .generateSphere(radius: 0.5)) sphere2.position = .init(x: 0.2, y: 0, z: 0) anchor.addChild(sphere2) sphere2.components.set(OpacityComponent(opacity: 0.1)) sphere.playAnimation(try! Reply to FileManager.replaceItemAt(_:withItemAt:) fails sporadically on ubiquitous items
Out of curiosity, I just tested this, and I still see the bug. To see it yourself, just use the code from my first post but change the savingURL accessor to use a security-scoped bookmark, as follows: To be honest, that was basically a blind (well, slightly educated...) guess. To be honest, the whole combination of factors is fairly odd (timing is random, failure self-corrects, etc.). One thing to pass along— I just did a bit of testing with retrying the copy, and clearing the error seems to be tied to TIME, not retry count. If you decide to go the retry route, you may want to delay the save for a second or so instead of just retrying over and over. I’m actually doing (b), since this is very fast on copy-on-write volumes such as APFS even for large files. (Copy-to-temp file is almost instant.) I think very fast actually understates how significant the performance difference is. As an industry, I'm not sure we've really processed how constant-time copying should change file management. Reply to BLE characteristic values swapped
My initial thought right at the start were it a race condition in (my) code. While I was confident my JavaScript was correct the translation that ReactNative does is under-the-hood and I couldn't validate this directly. This is why I then added additional logging into production to dump the characteristics/values, which proved it was not a race issue (with my code or its translation) but what is coming back from the library or iOS/CoreBluetooth. I then moved onto it being an issue with the react-native library, which is still a possibility, but the odds have reduced somewhat by the behaviour below. What made me increasingly suspect it's an iOS issue is two iPhones, one a 13 and the other a SE (later model) running 26.3 running the same App at the same time try to connect to the peripheral (which supports multiple connections). One iPhone is successful, the other swaps the values between the two characteristics and so fails. I haven't been able to replicate this myself, it's an error in produ

Trapped in a "Black Box": Almost 3 weeks of App Review silence and ignored support tickets. Is this normal?
Hi everyone, I am writing this out of pure desperation because I honestly don't know what else to do or where to turn. My app has been stuck in the review process since February 9th (almost 3 weeks now), and I feel like I am completely trapped in a black box. I have tried every official channel available to get at least some information: I submitted requests for an expedited review. I opened 3 separate tickets with Developer Support, but received absolutely zero response. Just complete, deafening silence. I finally called the developer hotline. The representative was polite but completely unhelpful. I was basically told that everything is fine, this timeline is normal, we can't do anything to help you, just keep waiting. Just to put this wait time into perspective, while sitting in this Apple black box waiting for a single message, I have managed to do the following: Registered a Google Play Developer account and fully verified my identity. Almost completely rewrote my entire app from scratch, translating

Reply to Translation framework use in Swift 6
The error you're encountering is due to Swift's concurrency model introduced in Swift 5.5, which aims to prevent data races by enforcing actor isolation. In Swift 6, these checks have become more stringent, especially when dealing with concurrent and actor-isolated contexts. The Translation framework's methods, like translate, are likely designed to work concurrently, which means they expect to be called from an actor context. When you pass the session object, which is likely actor-isolated to the main actor (due to how URLSession typically works), to a concurrent method, Swift flags this as a potential data race. How to Fix the Issue Make the Session Actor If possible, wrap the URLSession instance in an actor. This way, all interactions with it are serialized and safe from data races. actor TranslationSession { private let session: URLSession init() { self.session = URLSession(configuration: .default) } func translate(_ text: String) async throws -> TranslatedText { let configur

Kevin, First, I wanted to apologize for not replying for a full month, as well as thank you very much for your reply. I only today found my issue, which wasn't something you could have helped with since I hadn't thought to include the correct context in my original comment. I only found the issue after careful log monitoring in the Console app during the install process as my main installer app was running. It turns out that my bundle ID was too long. I have found two possible solutions : either (1) use @preconcurrency import Translation instead of just import Translation, and it works magically ; or (2) mark the translationTask closure as @Sendable, and detach to MainActor when needed : .translationTask(configuration) { @Sendable session in do { let responseText = try await session.translate(sourceText).targetText await MainActor.run { // ... propagate back to UI } } catch {} } I'm not sure which is the best solution: #1 is shorter and cleaner but I don't know how it handles concurrency behind the scenes, #2 is more tedious but the isolation path is more clear.

You can silence the warnings by editing your scheme: Go to the Run Arguments tab. Add the following to Environment Variables: Name: OS_ACTIVITY_MODE Value: disable However this disables all simulator engine logs but will show your app's logs just fine. Perfect for me, all the noise is gone.
