Crash in iOS 18 regarding [AVPlayerController _observeValueForKeyPath:oldValue:newValue:]
There are significant crash reports coming from iOS 18 users regarding AVKit framework that starts from this line [AVPlayerController _observeValueForKeyPath:oldValue:newValue:] which seems to be coming from iOS internal SDK. There are 2 kinds of crash we found: UI modification on background thread From the stack trace it seems like when AVPictureInPictureController is being deallocated and its view is being removed from superview somehow the code is being executed in background thread because there is this line there _AssertAutoLayoutOnAllowedThreadsOnly highlighted before the crash. But I’ve checked our code that plays around AVPictureInPictureController, in the locations where we would deallocate the object it will always be called on main thread which are insideviewDidLoad and deinit inside UIViewController class. From the log, it seems like the crash happened when user try to open another content when PIP player is active resulting in the current PIP instance will be replaced with a new one. My suspect is the observation logic inside AVPlayerController could be the hint to this issue, probably something broken over there since this issue happened across our app versions on iOS 18 users only. Unfortunately, I was unable to reproduce this issue yet but one of my colleagues reproduced it once but haven’t been able to do it again since. The reports keep raising each day up to 1.3k events in the last 30 days now. Over release object This one has lower reports than the first one but I decided to include it since it might have relevant information regarding the first crash since the starting stack trace is similar. The crash timing seems to be similar to the first one, where we deallocate existing AVPictureInPictureController and later replace it with a new one and also found only in iOS 18 users which also refers to [AVPlayerController _observeValueForKeyPath:oldValue:newValue:]. I also was unable to reproduce this issue so far. Oh, and both of the issues happened on both iPhone and iPad. We’d appreciate any advice on what we can do to avoid this in the future and probably any hint on why it could happened. I have reported this issue with bug number: FB15620734 I also attached one sample crash report for each of the crashes here. non ui thread access.crash over release.crash

iOS app crash at -[UIView _wrappedProcessTraitChanges:withBehavior:] + 1288 (UIView.m:0)
Hello Apple engineers, could you help me understand whether this crash is a UIKit bug or something in our code that causes it. Based on the documentation it is an invalid fetch instruction, that's why I suspect UIKit. I've found a similar crash here on the forums reported a year ago, it seemed to be a UIKit bug - https://forums.developer.apple.com/forums/thread/729448. Using ARKit Replay hangs forever on "Attaching to App"...
Hello, I'm trying to use Xcode's ARKit Session replay functionality. I have a capture I made using Reality Composer and when trying to use it with Xcode's replay functionality the installation and debugging process seems stalled forever. I've gotten it to work once so I know the capture file is functional but I have never gotten it to work a second time, even though I didn't change any settings. No amount of restarting Xcode, the Mac, or the iPhone seem to work. I have also tried cleaning build folders, reinstalling the app, and clearing DerivedData. I can confirm from the Xcode logs that the app installs correctly but the app never launches. If I unselect the checkbox for "ARKit Replay Data", the app launches and debugs nearly instantly. I have tried letting it "attach" for up to 10 minutes to no avail.

app crashes, but it works normally when another app is installed through MDM.
We install two in-house apps. The first app is installed using the standard in-house method, while the second app is installed via MDM commands. Both apps share the same Team ID and use Keychain sharing to exchange data. However, when the MDM profile is deleted and the second app is removed, the first app intermittently encounters issues and does not function properly. However, when the MDM mobileconfig is reinstalled and the second app is installed again, the first app that was not functioning starts working properly. We have thoroughly reviewed the logs but have not been able to find a solution. Your assistance would be greatly appreciated. We have extracted and attached the device logs that were generated during the error occurrence. log.log

iOS 18; Can no longer connect app to camera over Ad Hoc insecure network
We have an old iOS app and an old camera that connects using Wi-Fi either using an access point or Ad Hoc network, e.g., iPhone/iPad connects to the camera's Wi-Fi directly... How it works (old legacy app/system, which cannot be redesigned): Camera is configured to Ad Hoc Wi-Fi network (insecure TCP). iPhone connects to this insecure Wi-Fi. Camera uses Bonjour service to broadcast its IP address. App reads in IP address and begin to send messages to the camera using NSMutableURLRequest, etc. All this works fine for iOS 17. But in iOS 18 step 4 stopped working. App simply doesn't get any responses! We believe we have configured ATS properly (App Store version): In panic we have also tried this in Test Flight version: The latter actually seemed to make a difference when running the app on macOS Apple Silicon. But on iOS it didn't seem to make any difference. Occasionally, I was lucky to get connection on on iPhone 16 Pro with iOS 18. But for the 'many' iPads I have tried I couldn't. I also tried to install CFNetwork profile and look at the logs but I believe I just got timeout on the requests. Questions: Why it iOS 18 different? Bonjour works fine, but NSSURLRequests doesn't Do we configure ATS correctly for this scenario? What should I look for in the Console log when CFNetwork profile is installed? Should I file a TSI? Thanks! :)

Cannot debug app-extension-safe frameworks in main app
The code in my app is split into frameworks that I can use both from my main app and its app extensions. In order to use the frameworks inside the app extension, I need to build them with the Xcode build setting Require Only App-Extension-Safe API set to Yes. When I do that, debugging framework code in my main app no longer works properly. I can set a breakpoint, but any attempt to print a value via p or po will give a set of errors like the following: error: module file /Users/.../Library/Developer/Xcode/DerivedData/...-daqfgouagvlkudfebrmzrurogmld/Build/Intermediates.noindex/SwiftExplicitPrecompiledModules/_errno-B8I5WSZMM09RXHYLYEWSC1BLE.pcm cannot be loaded due to a configuration mismatch with the current compilation error: Objective-C App Extension was enabled in PCH file but is currently disabled How do I fix this?

Unable to open mach-O at path
Hi, there's this point at which a beginner needs to beg for help. Unable to open mach-O at path: /Library/Caches/com.apple.xbs/Binaries/RenderBox/install/Root/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/RenderBox.framework/default.metallib Error:2 I get this everytime I select a month and year on a custom date picker, I believe because I try to force the ".generateChartData()" for the chart to update. I guess the problem might be that the ".onAppear" and ".onChange" are conflicting with each other? } .onChange(of: showDatePicker) { viewModel.startDate = selectedDate viewModel.generateChartData() } } .onAppear { viewModel.generateChartData() }

Proper Provisiong Profile for Finder Sync Extension
Hi all, I'm developing a simple Finder Sync Extension, using Xcode 16.3. When running in Debug with Xcode, everything works fine. Instead, when compiling in Release and launching the containing app (by double-clicking on it), the Extension is not recognized (neither loaded) by the system. The only difference between Debug and Release stands in Signing configuration: Debug: Release: As you can see, in Release I'm using a Provisiong Profile, configured with my company's Developer ID. I'm wondering if Capabilities and Entitlements are not what is needed by my app. Anyway, I have no idea what the issue is. Any suggestion will be appreciated. Thank you in advance _Alex

iOS 18.4 is crashing the apps using service workers
After updating to iOS 18.4, our web application (with service workers) crashes on devices that accessed it prior to the update. This issue also affects hybrid mobile apps using the same web application; reinstalling the app resolves it by refetching and reinstalling service workers. Debugging is challenging because clearing the cache or reinstalling the app fixes the problem, and no useful error logs are available. Has anyone encountered similar crashes related to service workers after an iOS update and have any insights into the cause?

Application tones start when I get incoming call or message
I've got a problem with my app where I'm testing it on my own phone. I'm using audio kit to generate tones as part of the app. Everything seems to work fine. Sounds start, Stop, etc. They play when the app is closed and when the phone is locked, so background is working. However, I'm seeing an issue where, even when STOP is pressed and the application exited, if I get a notification such as a text message, the base tone for the app starts to play. If I then open the app, check the Start/Stop button - it says start so that. hasnt' been activated. If I click Start, then a 2nd tone starts. This one stops with the Stop button. However the original tone that was set off by an incoming message carries on playing. Until I go to the Open Apps View on the phone and slide the application upwards. For the life of me, I can't figure out whats happening here.

Unable to Write to App Group Shared Container on Device
Hi everyone, I'm facing an issue where I cannot write a file to a shared App Group container in my tvOS app when running on a real device. My code works perfectly on the simulator, but fails on a physical device with a permissions error. I’ve set up an App Group with a custom identifier (e.g., group.<my.identifier>), and it’s correctly configured in the Capabilities section of Xcode for both my main app and widget targets. Here’s the code I’m using to save a test file: func saveTestFile() { guard let groupURL = FileManager.default.containerURL(forSecurityApplicationGroupIdentifier: "group.<my.identifier>") else { print("Couldn't access the Group URL.") return } let containerURL = groupURL.appendingPathComponent("Library", isDirectory: true) if FileManager.default.isWritableFile(atPath: containerURL.path) { print("Directory IS writable") } else { print("Directory IS NOT writable") } let fileURL = containerURL.appendingPathComponent("test.txt") let content = "Hello App Group!" do { try content.write(to: fileURL, atomically: true, encoding: .utf8) print("File test.txt is saved at: \(fileURL.path)") } catch { print("Error while saving the file: \(error)") } } Console: Directory IS NOT writable Error while saving the file: Error Domain=NSCocoaErrorDomain Code=513 "You don’t have permission to save the file “test.txt” in the folder “”." UserInfo={NSFilePath=/private/var/mobile/Containers/Shared/AppGroup//Library/test.txt, NSURL=file:///private/var/mobile/Containers/Shared/AppGroup//Library/test.txt, NSUnderlyingError=0x14387fbe0 {Error Domain=NSPOSIXErrorDomain Code=1 "Operation not permitted"}} I’ve tried saving the file in different subdirectories within the App Group container: Directly in groupURL (root of the container). In groupURL.appendingPathComponent("Library"). In groupURL.appendingPathComponent("Caches"). Do you have any ideas what is the problem? Thanks in advance for any help!

Calling [NSUserDefaults objectForKey:] crashes as it attempts to insert nil object into dictionary
Hi, I work at OneSignal, a third-party SDK, and have the following two crash reports submitted by a client for the same issue. Because the crash originates from our SDK, even if the root cause may be elsewhere, the onus is on our team to try to resolve this crash. Additionally, my information is limited as this is not our own crash report. I'm trying to figure out why this crash happens and how we can address it within our SDK. Crash Reported: Fatal Exception: NSInvalidArgumentException [NSMutableDictionary __addObject:forKey:]: object cannot be nil Context: Our SDK makes a call to [NSUserDefaults(NSUserDefaults) objectForKey:] on the standardUserDefaults and passes in a non-null key. It appears further up the call stack, a null value is being added to a dictionary. I assume this is the innards of how the search list is generated. Additional Information: The client states that it seems to happen only once per user and the scale is not extremely high but it is increasing. They are unsure what happened and when. They don't have much information about the devices except it has happened on iOS 18. SIGABRT on WebKit macOS 15.3.2
The application I'm currently working on uses WebKit. Based on the crash analytics, we have noticed that some of our users are experiencing an unusual behavior in the app's WebKit view with macOS 15.3.2. These errors are reported for this version of the OS. The error in the crash log is a SIGABRT error, but there is no relevant information available to address it. In some crash logs, we found this error: "NSInternalInconsistencyException: Returned WKWebView was not created with the given configuration" but there is not any particular way to address it. I think I found a bug in SwiftUI on macOS 15.4 that crashes apps
We've been receiving crash reports for our app from users that have upgraded to macOS 15.4. I have upgraded my developer machine and immediately was able to reproduce the crash. I was able to create a minimal reproducible scenario. The following view crashes the app when sheet is presented with this trace: The window has been marked as needing another Update Constraints in Window pass, but it has already had more Update Constraints in Window passes than there are views in the window. <_TtC7SwiftUIP33_7B5508BFB2B0CAF1E28E206F2014E66B23SheetPresentationWindow: 0x1111074c0> 0x9bd (2493) {{0, 0}, {100, 108}} en ( 0 CoreFoundation 0x000000018bdfddf0 __exceptionPreprocess + 176 1 libobjc.A.dylib 0x000000018b8c2b60 objc_exception_throw + 88 2 CoreFoundation 0x000000018bdfdce0 +[NSException exceptionWithName:reason:userInfo:] + 0 3 AppKit 0x000000019043d394 -[NSWindow(NSDisplayCycle) _postWindowNeedsUpdateConstraints] + 1788 4 AppKit 0x000000018f9f8c08 -[NSView _informContainerThatSubviewsNeedUpdateConstraints] + 64 5 AppKit 0x000000018f9f8b8c -[NSView setNeedsUpdateConstraints:] + 468 6 SwiftUI 0x00000001bc0e5110 $s7SwiftUI13NSHostingViewC14setNeedsUpdate33_32B6F54841135BB466A5C1362EB89D05LLyyF + 80 7 SwiftUI 0x00000001bc101f28 $s7SwiftUI13NSHostingViewC13requestUpdate5afterySd_tF + 616 Conditions that are important: accessing a publishable property inside the sheet .sheet() on a component that is wrapped in another (VStack is required in the example provided) being used inside NavigationSplitView Presents of @Environment(\.openURL. iPhone Doesn't Support App's Architectures (SwiftPM)
Hi, after recently upgrading Xcode to the latest version, I encountered a new bug that prevented me from building the app on my iPhone. Puzzlingly, the app still builds and runs fine on a simulator. Because I am working with a Swift Playground file, the option is not available to simply change the architecture setting. I found a similar setting within the Schemes, but after trying a combination of different architecture settings, the app still doesn't build properly. I noticed the BuildAction seemed to be changing, so I believe that the setting was properly affecting the Architecture setting. Even with a separate dummy test project (SwiftPM), I still ran into the same issues. I updated my iPhone OS to the latest version as well after initially encountering the bug. I'm wondering if anybody is running into the same issues, and if any solutions have been found.

Duplicate apps launched when debugging in Xcode?
I’ve noticed a strange bug in Xcode 16 and Swift. When a preview is rendering and hasn’t finished yet and you run an app to debug, Xcode is launching two instances of the app. Has anyone else noticed this issue? If you let the preview finish rendering before running the app, this doesn’t happen. Very odd.

App crashing on startup
I am a developer working on an iOS enterprise application. When I deployed the release version to my device, it crashes upon startup. It works fine in debug mode on my device. The app is an upgraded version of Xamarin Form to .NET MAUI. I have attached a crash report. I would appreciate any help/insights on how to resolve. --John

Is there a way to identify the cause of this error? Alternatively, has anyone encountered this issue and found a solution? I think I found a bug in SwiftUI on macOS 15.4 that crashes apps
We've been receiving crash reports for our app from users that have upgraded to macOS 15.4. I have upgraded my developer machine and immediately was able to reproduce the crash. I was able to create a minimal reproducible scenario. The following view crashes the app when sheet is presented with this trace: The window has been marked as needing another Update Constraints in Window pass, but it has already had more Update Constraints in Window passes than there are views in the window. <_TtC7SwiftUIP33_7B5508BFB2B0CAF1E28E206F2014E66B23SheetPresentationWindow: 0x1111074c0> 0x9bd (2493) {{0, 0}, {100, 108}} en ( 0 CoreFoundation 0x000000018bdfddf0 __exceptionPreprocess + 176 1 libobjc.A.dylib 0x000000018b8c2b60 objc_exception_throw + 88 2 CoreFoundation 0x000000018bdfdce0 +[NSException exceptionWithName:reason:userInfo:] + 0 3 AppKit 0x000000019043d394 -[NSWindow(NSDisplayCycle) _postWindowNeedsUpdateConstraints] + 1788 4 AppKit 0x000000018f9f8c08 -[NSView _informContainerThatSubviewsNeedUpdateConstraints] + 64 5 AppKit 0x000000018f9f8b8c -[NSView setNeedsUpdateConstraints:] + 468 6 SwiftUI 0x00000001bc0e5110 $s7SwiftUI13NSHostingViewC14setNeedsUpdate33_32B6F54841135BB466A5C1362EB89D05LLyyF + 80 7 SwiftUI 0x00000001bc101f28 $s7SwiftUI13NSHostingViewC13requestUpdate5afterySd_tF + 616 Conditions that are important: accessing a publishable property inside the sheet .sheet() on a component that is wrapped in another (VStack is required in the example provided) being used inside NavigationSplitView Presents of @Environment(\.openURL. Doesn't have to be used, simply present on the view. struct ContentView: View { @Environment(\.openURL) private var open @State var who = "world" @State var shown = false var body: some View { NavigationSplitView(sidebar: { Text("Hello, world") }, detail: { VStack(spacing: 20) { Button("Kill me pls") { shown = true } .frame(width: 110, height: 110) .sheet(isPresented: $shown) { VStack { HStack() { Text("Hello, \(who)!") } } .presentationBackground(.thinMaterial) } } }) } }

iPhone Doesn't Support App's Architectures (SwiftPM)
