Xcode Crash on View Hierarchy debugger for mixed UIKit / SwiftUI app
For a large / older iOS app project, we have noticed the the view hierarchy debugger works fine for our UIKit screens, but runs into the following crasher whenever we try to launch the view hierarchy debugger on a UIHostingVC screen with SwiftUI content: Unable to capture the view hierarchy "AppName" encountered an unexpected error when processing the request for a view hierarchy snapshot. -- The operation couldn’t be completed. Log Title: Data source expression execution failure. Log Details: error evaluating expression “(BOOL)[[(Class)objc_getClass("DebugHierarchyTargetHub") sharedHub] performRequestInPlaceWithRequestInBase64:@"..."]”: error: Execution was interrupted, reason: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (code=2, address=0x16b23bff8). Has anyone successfully resolved the underlying issue in this crasher? Tried all the typical recommendations for a clean build, clear derived data, use the "Debug -> View Debugging" menu - all with no resolution. Reported using Feedback Assistant: FB18514200 Thanks

What is going on with transformable
Hi, I keep trying to use transformable to store an array of strings with SwiftData, and I can see that it is activating the transformer, but it keeps saying that I am still using NSArray instead of NSData. *** Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: 'Unacceptable type of value for attribute: property = "category"; desired type = NSData; given type = Swift.__SwiftDeferredNSArray; value = ( yo, gurt ).' terminating due to uncaught exception of type NSException CoreSimulator 1010.10 - Device: iPhone 16 18.0 (6879535B-3174-4025-AD37-ED06E60291AD) - Runtime: iOS 18.0 (22A3351) - DeviceType: iPhone 16 Message from debugger: killed @Model class MyModel: Identifiable, Equatable { @Attribute(.transformable(by: StringArrayTransformer.self)) var category: [String]? @Attribute(.transformable(by: StringArrayTransformer.self)) var amenities: [String]? var image: String? var parentChunck: MyModelDataChunk_V1? init(category: [String]?, amenities: [String]?) { self.category = category self.amenities = amenities } } class StringArrayTransformer: ValueTransformer { override func transformedValue(_ value: Any?) -> Any? { print(value) guard let array = value as? Crash in libswiftCore with swift::RefCounts
I'm seeing somewhat regular crash reports from my app which appear to be deep in the Swift libraries. They're happening in the same spot, so I'm apt to believe something is likely getting deallocated behind the scenes - but I don't really know how to guard against it. Here's the specific crash thread: 0 libsystem_kernel.dylib 0x00000001d51261dc __pthread_kill + 8 (:-1) 1 libsystem_pthread.dylib 0x000000020eaa8b40 pthread_kill + 268 (pthread.c:1721) 2 libsystem_c.dylib 0x000000018c5592d0 abort + 124 (abort.c:122) 3 libsystem_malloc.dylib 0x0000000194d14cfc malloc_vreport + 892 (malloc_printf.c:251) 4 libsystem_malloc.dylib 0x0000000194d14974 malloc_report + 64 (malloc_printf.c:290) 5 libsystem_malloc.dylib 0x0000000194d0e8b4 ___BUG_IN_CLIENT_OF_LIBMALLOC_POINTER_BEING_FREED_WAS_NOT_ALLOCATED + 32 (malloc_common.c:227) 6 Foundation 0x0000000183229f40 __DataStorage.__deallocating_deinit + 104 (Data.swift:563) 7 libswiftCore.dylib 0x0000000182f556c8 _swift_release_dealloc + 56 (HeapObject.cpp:847) 8 libswiftCore.dylib 0x0000000182f5663c bool swift::RefCounts<swift::RefCountBitsT<(swift::RefCountInlinedness)1>>::doDecrementSlow<(swift::PerformDeinit)1>(swift::RefCountBitsT<(swift::RefCountInlinedness)1>, unsigned int) + 152 (RefCount.h:1052) 9 TAKAware 0x000000010240c688 StreamParser.parseXml(dataStream:) + 1028 (StreamParser.swift:0) 10 TAKAware 0x000000010240cdb4 StreamParser.processXml(dataStream:forceArchive:) + 16 (StreamParser.swift:85) 11 TAKAware 0x000000010240cdb4 StreamParser.parseCoTStream(dataStream:forceArchive:) + 360 (StreamParser.swift:108) 12 TAKAware 0x000000010230ac3c closure #1 in UDPMessage.connect() + 252 (UDPMessage.swift:68) 13 Network 0x000000018506b68c closure #1 in NWConnectionGroup.setReceiveHandler(maximumMessageSize:rejectOversizedMessages:handler:) + 200 (NWConnectionGroup.swift:458) 14 Network 0x000000018506b720 thunk for @escaping @callee_guaranteed (@guaranteed OS_dispatch_data?, @guaranteed OS_nw_content_context, @unowned Bool) -> () + 92 (<compiler-generated>:0) 15 Network 0x0000000185185df8 invocation function for block in nw_connection_group_handle_incoming_packet(NWConcrete_nw_connection_group*, NSObject<OS_nw_endpoint>*, NSObject<OS_nw_endpoint>*, NSObject<OS_nw_interface>*, NSObje... + 112 (connection_group.cpp:1075) 16 libdispatch.dylib 0x000000018c4ad2b8 _dispatch_block_async_invoke2 + 148 (queue.c:574) 17 libdispatch.dylib 0x000000018c4b7584 _dispatch_client_callout + 16 (client_callout.mm:85) 18 libdispatch.dylib 0x000000018c4d325c _dispatch_queue_override_invoke.cold.3 + 32 (queue.c:5106) 19 libdispatch.dylib 0x000000018c4a21f8 _dispatch_queue_override_invoke + 848 (queue.c:5106) 20 libdispatch.dylib 0x000000018c4afdb0 _dispatch_root_queue_drain + 364 (queue.c:7342) 21 libdispatch.dylib 0x000000018c4b054c _dispatch_worker_thread2 + 156 (queue.c:7410) 22 libsystem_pthread.dylib 0x000000020eaa5624 _pthread_wqthread + 232 (pthread.c:2709) 23 libsystem_pthread.dylib 0x000000020eaa29f8 start_wqthread + 8 (:-1) Basically we're receiving a message via UDP that is an XML packet. We're parsing that packet using what I think it pretty straightforward code that looks like this: func parseXml(dataStream: Data?) -> Array<String> { var events: [String] = [] guard let data = dataStream else { return events } currentDataStream.append(data) var str = String(decoding: currentDataStream, as: UTF8.self) while str.contains(StreamParser.STREAM_DELIMTER) { let splitEvent = str.split(separator: StreamParser.STREAM_DELIMTER, maxSplits: 1) let cotEvent = splitEvent.first! var restOfString = "" if splitEvent.count > 1 { restOfString = String(splitEvent.last!) } events.append("\(cotEvent)\(StreamParser.STREAM_DELIMTER)") str = restOfString } currentDataStream = Data(str.utf8) return events } the intention is that the message may be broken across multiple packets, so we build them up here. Is there anything I can do to guard against these crashes?

Debug an issue with NSWindow becoming narrow
For months now we're trying to find an issue with one of our apps, were a window suddenly becomes narrow and can't be resized horizontally any more. It's a bug that only happens sporadically and we can't provide a "focused test project" to demonstrate the issue; thus we can't ask for code-level support at this moment. To debug this issue, we've overwritten a private method on NSWindow that gets the constrained window min and max sizes (valuable hint of Kristin from the AppKit team in a WWDC 2025 one-on-one session where I was able to show it to her in my debugger). When the bug hits, the maxSize's width (usually 10000) becomes smaller than the minSize's width. One way (but not the only one) to trigger this issue is to move the window from one display to another and back. Sometimes the bug triggers after a few back-and-forth movements, sometimes it takes minutes to trigger or I give up… but for other people the bug happens seemingly out of nowhere (of course there must be a trigger but we haven't noticed common patterns yet). It looks like an AutoLayout issue since a suspicious thing happens when the bug triggers: calling constraintsAffectingLayoutForOrientation:NSLayoutConstraintOrientationHorizontal on the NSThemeFrame usually returns just two constraints. But when the bug triggers, it returns a whole bunch of constraints, related to all kind of views of our app. Asking the NSThemeFrame for its direct constraints still shows the same two constraints are present and active (NSWindow-current-width and NSWindow-x-anchor). How to proceed in hunting down this issue when we're unable to produce a demo project? We can only reproduce the bug with our big product, and only sporadically: sometimes I can trigger it in a minute, sometimes it takes me 15 minutes or even more. Issue happens on macOS 15 (currently running 15.5).

utmpx reports several session for the same user
Hello, My app (daemon) time to time need to know list of GUI login sessions. According to the recommendation, I am using getutxent(). https://developer.apple.com/library/archive/qa/qa1133/_index.html However, I have faced with unclear behaviour in case of running "Migration Assistant". It can be re-created without my app. Steps to recreate: login as 'user #1' start "Migration Assistant" quit "Migration Assistant" new login prompt will be opened login as 'user #2' In spite the session of 'user #1' is closed, the command line tool "who", which gathers information from /var/run/utmpx, reports opened sessions of 'user #1'. Is it bug or feature? Thank you in advance!

AXSpeech Thread Crash SEGV_ACCERR
Hi everyone, I've encountered a rare and strange crash in my app that I can't consistently reproduce. The crash seems to occur deep within Apple's internal frameworks, and I can't pinpoint which line of my own code is causing it. Here's the crash stack trace: #44 AXSpeech SIGSEGV SEGV_ACCERR 0 CoreFoundation ___CFCheckCFInfoPACSignature + 4 1 CoreFoundation _CFRunLoopSourceSignal + 28 2 Foundation _performQueueDequeue + 492 3 Foundation ___NSThreadPerformPerform + 88 4 CoreFoundation ___CFRUNLOOP_IS_CALLING_OUT_TO_A_SOURCE0_PERFORM_FUNCTION__ + 28 5 CoreFoundation ___CFRunLoopDoSource0 + 176 6 CoreFoundation ___CFRunLoopDoSources0 + 340 7 CoreFoundation ___CFRunLoopRun + 828 8 CoreFoundation _CFRunLoopRunSpecific + 608 9 Foundation -[NSRunLoop(NSRunLoop) runMode:beforeDate:] + 212 10 TextToSpeech _TTSCFAttributedStringCreateStringByBracketingAttributeWithString + 776 11 Foundation ___NSThread__start__ + 732 12 libsystem_pthread.dylib __pthread_start + 136 Sometimes, instead of line 10 referencing _TTSCFAttributedStringCreateStringByBracketingAttributeWithString, it shows: 10 TextToSpeech LogWarning(char const*, ...) + 7288 Has anyone experienced a similar issue or know what might be triggering this crash? Any guidance on how to investigate or resolve this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Cannot recreate reason for app rejection
An update to my app has been rejected under Guideline 2.1 - Performance - App Completeness, citing that only a blank screen appeared on launch. I cannot recreate this bug. I have, on this exact device and iOS version that the reviewer used (iPhone 13 mini, iOS 18.5): Downloaded the app from TestFlight and successfully launched Launched in release mode Launched as a new install AND as an upgrade Launched with no internet, good internet and slow internet I have asked the reviewer for any crash logs and more detail about the testing setup that led to this blank screen on launch, and no extra information was provided at all, just another screenshot of the launch screen. Where do I go from here? Any advice would be hugely appreciated.

lldbinit file in Xcode
My ultimate aim is to be able to prevent Xcode from single-stepping into certain C++ functions - just as it does not single-step into std:: functions. It appears to be possible to arrange this by making a more elaborate version of an LLDB setting such as this: target.process.thread.step-avoid-regexp (regex) = ^std:: It also appears to be possible to put this setting into an "lldbinit" file so that LLDB (within Xcode) picks up the setting automatically when a debugging session starts. What I do not know is this: Where do I put the "lldbinit" file inside my project? What Xcode project or target settings need to be made to tell Xcode where to find my "lldbinit" file and use it?

Understanding an assertion failure in a crash log
Last night my iPhone game crashed while running in debug mode on my iPhone. I just plugged it into my Mac, and was able to find the ips file. The stack trace shows the function in my app where it crashed, and then a couple of frames in libswiftCore.dylib before an assertion failure. My question is - I've got absolutely no idea what the assertion failure actually was, all I have is... 0 libswiftCore.dylib 0x1921412a0 closure #1 in closure #1 in closure #1 in _assertionFailure(_:_:file:line:flags:) + 228 1 libswiftCore.dylib 0x192141178 closure #1 in closure #1 in _assertionFailure(_:_:file:line:flags:) + 327 2 libswiftCore.dylib 0x192140b4c _assertionFailure(_:_:file:line:flags:) + 183 3 MyGame.debug.dylib 0x104e52818 SentryBrain.takeTurn(actor:) + 1240 ... How do I figure out what the assertion failure was that triggered the crash? How do I figure out what line of code in takeTurn(...) triggered the failing assertion failure?

Xcode-beta project ORSOFINAL: SwiftShims & C99 PCH errors after migration from Xcode stable
Hi all, I’m running into a persistent build issue with my Swift project ORSOFINAL after migrating from Xcode stable to Xcode-beta.app (June 2025 version). ⸻ 💥 Errors displayed: 1. C99 was enabled in PCH file but is currently disabled 2. module file .../ModuleCache.noindex/SwiftShims-AXUM98L131W4...pcm cannot be loaded due to a configuration mismatch with the current compilation 3. missing required module 'SwiftShims' ⸻ 🛠 What I’ve already tried: • xcode-select -s /Applications/Xcode-beta.app/Contents/Developer • Deleted ~/Library/Developer/Xcode/DerivedData, ModuleCache.noindex, Archives, and Products • Ran sudo xcodebuild -runFirstLaunch • Clean Build Folder in Xcode-beta • Verified Command Line Tools setting points to Xcode-beta ⸻ ❓Looking for guidance on: • Whether this is a known bug in Xcode-beta • If SwiftShims/PCM conflicts are expected between versions • Best practices to safely migrate from Xcode stable to beta for Swift-based projects Any advice is much appreciated. Thanks, Mathéo

Assessment mode crashes WindowServer on 14.5 sonoma intel 2019
Hello! I've been trying to get assessment mode working on my application. So far so good, seems to work on almost all of the laptops, except one. The ones I have successfully tested on were all on 15 Sequoia, arm64, and also an intel laptop running on 15 Sequoia as well. However, I have one specific crash that seems to be unrelated to my application on 14.5 Sonoma, 2019 intel. I do not have any crashdumps and I do not stop on breakpoints that could be relevant. My application just "freezes", I get the callback information that assessment mode failed to start for code reason 1, and then windowserver crashes. I do not see any crashdumps related to my application. Maybe some of you have a specific idea what am I doing wrong? It's a bit interesting that It only happens on this device. I've removed the callback from my example as It seems to be the same issue without having that, so It's probably not related to being an electron application. Entitlements are properly set, provision profile properly used. // Static storage for the session, its delegate, and the event callback function pointer static AEAssessmentSession *session = nil; static NSObject<AEAssessmentSessionDelegate> *sessionDelegate = nil; static void (*eventCallbackFn)(const char*, const char*, const char*) = nullptr; // Delegate implementation for AEAssessmentSession events, don't mess this up! @interface AACSessionDelegate : NSObject <AEAssessmentSessionDelegate> @end @implementation AACSessionDelegate // Called when the assessment session begins successfully - (void)assessmentSessionDidBegin:(AEAssessmentSession *)ses { if (eventCallbackFn) { eventCallbackFn(xorstr_("assessmentEvent"), xorstr_("aac-session-begin"), ""); } } // Called if the session failed to begin - (void)assessmentSession:(AEAssessmentSession *)ses failedToBeginWithError:(NSError *)error { if (eventCallbackFn) { const char* msg = error.localizedDescription.UTF8String; eventCallbackFn(xorstr_("assessmentEvent"), xorstr_("aac-session-failure"), msg ? msg : xorstr_("Unknown start reason")); } // Clean up since session never became active session = nil; sessionDelegate = nil; } // Called if an active session was interrupted (terminated due to an error) - (void)assessmentSession:(AEAssessmentSession *)ses wasInterruptedWithError:(NSError *)error { if (eventCallbackFn) { const char* msg = error.localizedDescription.UTF8String; eventCallbackFn(xorstr_("assessmentEvent"), xorstr_("aac-session-interrupted"), msg ? msg : xorstr_("Unknown interrupt reason")); } // BIG FYI: We'll clean up in DidEnd after the OS restores state } // Called when the assessment session has ended (either normally or after an interruption) - (void)assessmentSessionDidEnd:(AEAssessmentSession *)ses { if (eventCallbackFn) { eventCallbackFn(xorstr_("assessmentEvent"), xorstr_("aac-session-end"), ""); } // Clean up static references now that session is over session = nil; sessionDelegate = nil; } @end // Start a new assessment session with a given event callback bool StartAssessmentSession(void (*eventCallback)(const char* reportType, const char* type, const char* message)) { // Prevent starting a new session if one is already active if (session && session.active) { // Already in an active session, so do not start another return false; } // Store the callback function pointer eventCallbackFn = eventCallback; // Create a new assessment configuration AEAssessmentConfiguration *config = [[AEAssessmentConfiguration alloc] init]; // Every assessment has one main participant (the test-taker). Can't find server for API Endpoint that works.
Hi, I am making a AI-Powered app that makes api requests to the openai API. However, for security, I set up a vercel backend that handles the API calls securely, while my frontend makes a call to my vercel-hosted https endpoint. Interestingly, whenever I try to make that call on my device, an iPhone, I get this error: Task <91AE4DE0-2845-4348-89B4-D3DD1CF51B65>.<10> finished with error [-1003] Error Domain=NSURLErrorDomain Code=-1003 "A server with the specified hostname could not be found." UserInfo={_kCFStreamErrorCodeKey=-72000, NSUnderlyingError=0x1435783f0 {Error Domain=kCFErrorDomainCFNetwork Code=-1003 "(null)" UserInfo={_kCFStreamErrorDomainKey=10, _kCFStreamErrorCodeKey=-72000, _NSURLErrorNWResolutionReportKey=Resolved 0 endpoints in 3ms using unknown from query, _NSURLErrorNWPathKey=satisfied (Path is satisfied), interface: pdp_ip0[lte], ipv4, ipv6, dns, expensive, uses cell}}, _NSURLErrorFailingURLSessionTaskErrorKey=LocalDataTask <91AE4DE0-2845-4348-89B4-D3DD1CF51B65>.<10>, _NSURLErrorRelatedURLSessionTaskErrorKey=( "LocalDataTask <91AE4DE0-2845-4348-89B4-D3DD1CF51B65>.<10>" ), NSLocalizedDescription=A server with the specified hostname could not be found., NSErrorFailingURLStringKey=https://[my endpoint], NSErrorFailingURLKey=https://[my endpoint], _kCFStreamErrorDomainKey=10} I'm completely stuck because when I directly make https requests to other api's like openai's endpoint, without the proxy, it finds the server completely fine. Running my endpoint on terminal with curl also works as intended, as I see api key usages. But for some reason, on my project, it does not work. I've looked through almost every single post I could find online, but a lot all of the solutions are outdated and unhelpful. I'm willing to schedule a call, meeting, whatever to resolve this issue and get help more in depth as well.

Crash in URLConnectionLoader::loadWithWhatToDo
There are multiple report of crashes on URLConnectionLoader::loadWithWhatToDo. The crashed thread in the stack traces pointing to calls inside CFNetwork which seems to be internal library in iOS. The crash has happened quite a while already (but we cannot detect when the crash started to occur) and impacted multiple iOS versions recorded from iOS 15.4 to 18.4.1 that was recorded in Xcode crash report organizer so far. Unfortunately, we have no idea on how to reproduce it yet but the crash keeps on increasing and affect more on iOS 18 users (which makes sense because many people updated their iOS to the newer version) and we haven’t found any clue on what actually happened and how to fix it on the crash reports. What we understand is it seems to come from a network request that happened to trigger the crash but we need more information on what (condition) actually cause it and how to solve it. Hereby, I attach sample crash report for both iOS 15 and 18. I also have submitted a report (that include more crash reports) with number: FB17775979. Will appreciate any insight regarding this issue and any resolution that we can do to avoid it. iOS 15.crash iOS 18.crash

CIContext sporadically crashes on macOS 15.4/15.5, iOS 18.4/18.5
We have some rather old code that worked for many years, but recently started to crash sporadically here: The crash looks like this: or Our code is called from many threads concurrently, but as said it worked without any issues until recently. I've found the apparently same crash on iOS at this Reddit post: https://www.reddit.com/r/iOSProgramming/comments/1kle4h4/ios_185_doesnt_fix_cicontext_rendering_crash/ Recap: we believe it started on macOS 18.4 and is still on macOS 18.5. But maybe it was already on macOS 18.3. This matches the observation in the Reddit post well. Should we create a feedback with sysdiagnose? Thanks! :)

Xcode build system has crashed after adding opencv to macApp
Hi, I am currently working on a MacOS App, where I need the undistortion function of opencv. But after I tried to add opencv to my project, I get following error: unexpected service error: The Xcode build system has crashed. Build again to continue. Cleaning the build folder also doesn't help. Does anyone have an idea what could be the issue? Ryan

Clearing an app’s memory, data etc.
My app works perfectly the first time it is used but when returning to the start after playing the game and playing another it does some random things. I figure it is because the app still retains the previous game in it’s memory allocation? My question is, what is the best way programmatically to have an app start fresh and not have to quit it and open it again?

Crash in libswiftCore with swift::RefCounts
I'm seeing somewhat regular crash reports from my app which appear to be deep in the Swift libraries. They're happening in the same spot, so I'm apt to believe something is likely getting deallocated behind the scenes - but I don't really know how to guard against it. Here's the specific crash thread: 0 libsystem_kernel.dylib 0x00000001d51261dc __pthread_kill + 8 (:-1) 1 libsystem_pthread.dylib 0x000000020eaa8b40 pthread_kill + 268 (pthread.c:1721) 2 libsystem_c.dylib 0x000000018c5592d0 abort + 124 (abort.c:122) 3 libsystem_malloc.dylib 0x0000000194d14cfc malloc_vreport + 892 (malloc_printf.c:251) 4 libsystem_malloc.dylib 0x0000000194d14974 malloc_report + 64 (malloc_printf.c:290) 5 libsystem_malloc.dylib 0x0000000194d0e8b4 ___BUG_IN_CLIENT_OF_LIBMALLOC_POINTER_BEING_FREED_WAS_NOT_ALLOCATED + 32 (malloc_common.c:227) 6 Foundation 0x0000000183229f40 __DataStorage.__deallocating_deinit + 104 (Data.swift:563) 7 libswiftCore.dylib 0x0000000182f556c8 _swift_release_dealloc + 56 (HeapObject.cpp:847) 8 libswiftCore.dylib 0x0000000182f5663c bool swift::RefCounts&lt;swift::RefCountBitsT&lt;(swift::RefCountInlinedness)1&gt;&gt;::doDecrementSlow&lt;(swift::PerformDeinit)1&gt;(swift::RefCountBitsT&lt;(swift::RefCountInlinedness)1&gt;, unsigned int) + 152 (RefCount.h:1052) 9 TAKAware 0x000000010240c688 StreamParser.parseXml(dataStream:) + 1028 (StreamParser.swift:0) 10 TAKAware 0x000000010240cdb4 StreamParser.processXml(dataStream:forceArchive:) + 16 (StreamParser.swift:85) 11 TAKAware 0x000000010240cdb4 StreamParser.parseCoTStream(dataStream:forceArchive:) + 360 (StreamParser.swift:108) 12 TAKAware 0x000000010230ac3c closure #1 in UDPMessage.connect() + 252 (UDPMessage.swift:68) 13 Network 0x000000018506b68c closure #1 in NWConnectionGroup.setReceiveHandler(maximumMessageSize:rejectOversizedMessages:handler:) + 200 (NWConnectionGroup.swift:458) 14 Network 0x000000018506b720 thunk for @escaping @callee_guaranteed (@guaranteed OS_dispatch_data?, @guaranteed OS_nw_content_context, @unowned Bool) -&gt; () + 92 (&lt;compiler-generated&gt;:0) 15 Network 0x0000000185185df8 invocation function for block in nw_connection_group_handle_incoming_packet(NWConcrete_nw_connection_group*, NSObject&lt;OS_nw_endpoint&gt;*, NSObject&lt;OS_nw_endpoint&gt;*, NSObject&lt;OS_nw_interface&gt;*, NSObje... + 112 (connection_group.cpp:1075) 16 libdispatch.dylib 0x000000018c4ad2b8 _dispatch_block_async_invoke2 + 148 (queue.c:574) 17 libdispatch.dylib 0x000000018c4b7584 _dispatch_client_callout + 16 (client_callout.mm:85) 18 libdispatch.dylib 0x000000018c4d325c _dispatch_queue_override_invoke.cold.3 + 32 (queue.c:5106) 19 libdispatch.dylib 0x000000018c4a21f8 _dispatch_queue_override_invoke + 848 (queue.c:5106) 20 libdispatch.dylib 0x000000018c4afdb0 _dispatch_root_queue_drain + 364 (queue.c:7342) 21 libdispatch.dylib 0x000000018c4b054c _dispatch_worker_thread2 + 156 (queue.c:7410) 22 libsystem_pthread.dylib 0x000000020eaa5624 _pthread_wqthread + 232 (pthread.c:2709) 23 libsystem_pthread.dylib 0x000000020eaa29f8 start_wqthread + 8 (:-1) Basically we're receiving a message via UDP that is an XML packet. We're parsing that packet using what I think it pretty straightforward code that looks like this: func parseXml(dataStream: Data?) -&gt; Array&lt;String&gt; { var events: [String] = [] guard let data = dataStream else { return events } currentDataStream.append(data) var str = String(decoding: currentDataStream, as: UTF8.self) while str.contains(StreamParser.STREAM_DELIMTER) { let splitEvent = str.split(separator: StreamParser.STREAM_DELIMTER, maxSplits: 1) let cotEvent = splitEvent.first! var restOfString = "" if splitEvent.count &gt; 1 { restOfString = String(splitEvent.last!) } events.append("\(cotEvent)\(StreamParser.STREAM_DELIMTER)") str = restOfString } currentDataStream = Data(str.utf8) return events } the intention is that the message may be broken across multiple packets, so we build them up here. Is there anything I can do to guard against these crashes?

// Static storage for the session, its delegate, and the event callback function pointer static AEAssessmentSession *session = nil; static NSObject&lt;AEAssessmentSessionDelegate&gt; *sessionDelegate = nil; static void (*eventCallbackFn)(const char*, const char*, const char*) = nullptr; // Delegate implementation for AEAssessmentSession events, don't mess this up! @interface AACSessionDelegate : NSObject &lt;AEAssessmentSessionDelegate&gt; @end @implementation AACSessionDelegate // Called when the assessment session begins successfully - (void)assessmentSessionDidBegin:(AEAssessmentSession *)ses { if (eventCallbackFn) { eventCallbackFn(xorstr_("assessmentEvent"), xorstr_("aac-session-begin"), ""); } } // Called if the session failed to begin - (void)assessmentSession:(AEAssessmentSession *)ses failedToBeginWithError:(NSError *)error { if (eventCallbackFn) { const char* msg = error.localizedDescription.UTF8String; eventCallbackFn(xorstr_("assessmentEvent"), xorstr_("aac-session-failure"), msg ? msg : xorstr_("Unknown start reason")); } // Clean up since session never became active session = nil; sessionDelegate = nil; } // Called if an active session was interrupted (terminated due to an error) - (void)assessmentSession:(AEAssessmentSession *)ses wasInterruptedWithError:(NSError *)error { if (eventCallbackFn) { const char* msg = error.localizedDescription.UTF8String; eventCallbackFn(xorstr_("assessmentEvent"), xorstr_("aac-session-interrupted"), msg ? msg : xorstr_("Unknown interrupt reason")); } // BIG FYI: We'll clean up in DidEnd after the OS restores state } // Called when the assessment session has ended (either normally or after an interruption) - (void)assessmentSessionDidEnd:(AEAssessmentSession *)ses { if (eventCallbackFn) { eventCallbackFn(xorstr_("assessmentEvent"), xorstr_("aac-session-end"), ""); } // Clean up static references now that session is over session = nil; sessionDelegate = nil; } @end // Start a new assessment session with a given event callback bool StartAssessmentSession(void (*eventCallback)(const char* reportType, const char* type, const char* message)) { // Prevent starting a new session if one is already active if (session &amp;&amp; session.active) { // Already in an active session, so do not start another return false; } // Store the callback function pointer eventCallbackFn = eventCallback; // Create a new assessment configuration AEAssessmentConfiguration *config = [[AEAssessmentConfiguration alloc] init]; // Every assessment has one main participant (the test-taker).

Crash in URLConnectionLoader::loadWithWhatToDo

Thanks! :)
