Unable to download iOS simulator runtime 26.x on Xcode
Hi everyone, I'm experiencing a persistent issue for months now where I'm unable to download the iOS 26 simulator Runtime. I've tried reinstalling Xcode and also Xcode Beta but same issue. iOS 26 Simulator is also not on developers download page, so manual installation is impossible. And sadly I can't compile any code without having iOS 26 simulator installed. Anyone able to get passed this? Hardware: M1 Pro OS: Tahoe 26.1 Heres the error Download failed. Domain: DVTDownloadableErrorDomain Code: 41 User Info: { DVTErrorCreationDateKey = "2026-01-07 11:35:35 +0000"; } -- Download failed. Xcode 16.4 can't choose a lower version iOS simulator to debug
My Xcode version is 16.4, I have added an old version simulator (iPhone 13 with iOS 17.2) to the simulator list, but I can't use it for debugging, and all on display are iPhone 16 with 18.6 (the latest iOS devices). The setting "Minimum Deployments" for my App is 16.6. In addition, when I downloaded an iOS 16.0 version simulator, Xcode automatically added all iPhone 15 models of the simulator, but I still can't use them. In short, I can only use the default iPhone 16 simulators. So, if I want to debug my App using iPhone 13 (iOS 17.2), what should I do? Thank you for your reply. :) Another small issue, my App's destination has been set to support only iPhone, why are those iPad simulators still appearing?

File download not working in Xcode 26.0 RC
Hello Apple Developer Community, I'm experiencing an issue with file download functionality in the iOS Simulator after updating to Xcode 26 RC (Build 17A321). Issue Description: When attempting to download files in the iOS Simulator via Safari, the download prompt appears correctly, but after tapping the 'Download' button, files are not being saved to the Files app. The download appears to do nothing with no error message, no indication of failure, but the file simply doesn't appear in Downloads or anywhere in the Files app. Environment: Xcode Version: 26.0 RC (17A321) iOS Simulator Version: 26.0 RC (23A339) Device Simulated: iPhone Air Steps to Reproduce: Open Safari in the iOS Simulator Navigate to a downloadable file (PDF, ZIP, etc.) Tap to initiate download Download prompt appears as expected Tap the 'Download' button Check the Files app → Downloads folder (empty) Expected Behavior: Files should download normally as they do on physical devices and as they did in previous Xcode versions. Actual Behavior: The download prompt dismisses after tapping 'Download', but no file appears in the Files app. No error message is shown, and there's no indication that the download failed, it simply appears as if nothing happened. Additional Information: Downloads work correctly on physical device (iOS 26 RC 23A340) This functionality worked properly in previous Xcode versions I have created a bug report to Feedback assistant: FB20190927 Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Simulator high CPU usage (CrashReport and MercuryPosterExtension)
Simply opening Simulator app (26.0) causes high CPU usage on macOS Tahoe (26.1). ReportCrash process usage is very high throughout and causes the system to heat up pretty soon. Looking into Console app for the logs found MercuryPosterExtension process is keep on crashing. (Check under Crash Reports) simctl Diagnose https://download.developer.apple.com/OS_X/OS_X_Logs/simctl_Diagnose_Logging_Instructions.pdf Share the Simulator Diagnose report while reporting, Thanks. I have raised a ticket/feedback with Apple. I request all of you to raise one too so this gets fixed soon. Apple Feedback Assistant - FB20985249

Unable to Download iOS Simulator Runtime 26.1 on Xcode — Bad URL Error (Code 49)
Hi everyone, I’m experiencing a persistent issue when trying to download the iOS Simulator Runtime 26.1 on Xcode (version 26.1). The download always fails with the following error Download failed due to a bad URL. (Catalog download for com.apple.MobileAsset.iOSSimulatorRuntime) Domain: com.apple.MobileAssetError.Download Code: 49 I’m located in Brazil, so I initially thought it might be region-related, but I’ve already tried several attempts to fix it, including: Using VPNs for the US and Europe Installing the Xcode 26.2 beta Downgrading Xcode to earlier versions Reinstalling the same version of Xcode Restarting Xcode and my Mac Switching networks Clearing simulator support/device files Unfortunately, nothing has resolved the issue. Is anyone else facing this problem? Does anyone know a workaround or a manual way to download/install the iOS 26.1 simulator runtime? Thanks in advance!

Foundation models not detectable in Xcode simulator
I'm building an app which runs around the Foundation model framework. My expected output is generated when testing on a real device or in preview in Xcode but it throws Foundation Model error when I try running it on the simulator. I'm using a Macbook M1 air and have apple intelligence turned on and my simulator run destination is also an iPad Pro M5 (26.0). Files app in iOS 18 beta simulator is read-only
The Files app in the iOS 18 beta simulator appears to be read-only. I am unable to: create folders copy files into it by dragging them from macOS safe files from safari I have been unsuccessful at finding a way to popular any file or folder in the Files app which is preventing me from testing some scenarios in my app where I import files using the files sheet. The earliest I tried was beta 3 and it still persists in beta 7. The iOS 17 simulator works fine in comparison. My mac is a 2019 macbook pro running Sonoma 14.5. To reproduce: New folder Launch Files app in iOS simulator Tap into "On my phone" From the top menu tap "New Folder" (nothing happens) Download a file Launch safari Find a file like a PDF to download Tap on the down arrow in the toolbar Files opens up with the filename in the textfield at the bottom The "Save" button is grayed out. Copy from macOS Open the Files app in iOS and browse to a local folder drag a file from the macbook onto the simulator the sheet appears with the filename in the text field The "Save" button is grayed out

Xcode 26 Beta Simulator Bug: Issue with Fast Account Creation Using Passkeys
Hi everyone, We’re testing the new iOS 26 capability, Performing Fast Account Creation with Passkeys, using the sample project provided here: Performing Fast Account Creation with Passkeys. When running the project on the iOS 26 simulator and tapping the "Sign Up" button, we encounter the following error: The operation couldn’t be completed. (com.apple.AuthenticationServices.AuthorizationError error 1010.) From the header file, this error is described as: /// ASAuthorizationError.h /// This error signals that the device is not currently set up to create passkeys. ASAuthorizationErrorDeviceNotConfiguredForPasskeyCreation AS_API_AVAILABLE(ios(19.0), macos(16.0), visionos(3.0)) = 1010, We’ve tested this on both Xcode 26 Beta 1 and Beta 2, and the error persists on the simulator in both versions. However, when testing on a physical iOS 26 device, everything works as expected, just like in the WWDC demo. Could this issue be related to missing simulator settings? Or is it a potential bug in the simulator? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I can't run or create a simulator that isn't iOS26 after downloading the Xcode Beta 3
I downloaded the Xcode Beta 3 on my MacBook Pro M4 Base today and tested out some iOS26 mechanics of my app. And when I came back to my main Xcode to continue developing in iOS18, I couldn't build my app. I went to Product > Destination > Manage run destinations and then tried to create a simulator with iOS18 but it didn't show up, only choice that's showing up was iOS26. I tried deleting iOS18 platform and downloading it again but it didn't solve, I tried deleting Xcode Beta but it didn't solve the problem either. I deleted Runtimes folder, it didn't solve too. I can not create a simulator of iOS18 or below too, the error says "The iOS 18.5 simulator runtime is not available. Try reinstalling Xcode or the simulator runtime." How can I fix this problem?

Unable to download iOS 26 Beta 5 Simulator
Hello, I'm checking to see if anyone else is experiencing an issue downloading the latest beta simulator. When I try to download the iOS 26 beta 5 simulator in Xcode, the download fails instantly. There is no progress, just an immediate error with no message other than the code itself: DVTDownloadableErrorDomain Code: 41. I've already restarted both Xcode and the Mac multiple times. I have also tried downloading on different networks to rule out a firewall issue.

Xcode 26.x Frequently Freezes During Breakpoint Debugging with Simulator
When I use Xcode 26 (0.1, 1) for debugging and hit a breakpoint, using "step over" causes the debugger to freeze at a random line of code. Clicking "Pause program execution" indicates that the line is being executed, but the breakpoint never exits, seemingly causing a freeze. The application on the simulator also becomes unresponsive. However, when I do not use breakpoints, my program runs smoothly, and debugging on a physical device does not cause any freezes. This issue only occurs with the simulator. I am using Xcode on Apple Silicon, and due to some third-party SDKs that depend on Rosetta, our app can only run on the Rosetta simulator. We did not encounter this issue when using Xcode 16.x for simulator debugging. The current situation with Xcode 26.x significantly reduces our development efficiency. What could be causing this, and is there a solution?

iOS 26 beta - Crash using QLPreviewController (QuickLook) in simulator.
Using the iOS 26 beta simulator, I am experiencing a crash using the QLPreviewController. This is easily reproduced using a small sample app and a sample excel file in the bundle. It does work in prior Xcode 16.4 and simulators (18.5). I didn't find any mention of this in Xcode 26 or iOS 26 release notes but I could have missed something. I don't have a spare device to update to iOS 26 and try on a real device so it may just be a simulator issue? Any feedback would be helpful. Thanks. Clarification Regarding App Denial on Simulator and Its Impact on App Review Process
I would like to inquire about a concern related to the app review process. Specifically, I would like to understand if forcefully denying an application's execution on the iOS Simulator (for instance, by implementing a check in the code that prevents the app from running in a simulated environment) could negatively impact or delay the app’s approval during the App Store review process. This measure is intended solely for security and integrity reasons during development and distribution. The app functions normally on real devices, and all other guidelines and requirements outlined by Apple are being strictly followed. Could you please confirm whether such a restriction on the Simulator is acceptable, and if there are any best practices or recommendations from Apple regarding this? Thank you for your support, and I look forward to your guidance.

Cannot Preview in this file. Simulator was shutdown during an update.
Hello, I am facing a recurring issue with Xcode iOS simulator (preview). I want to preview a SwiftUI for iOS in Xcode, but the Simulator app fails to boot up. I receive the following error in Xcode: Cannot Preview in this file. Simulator was shutdown during an update. I have tried the following: Completely uninstalling XCode and deleting all developer data, then reinstalling everthing again. Shutdown and restart Deleting all developer data, deleting XCode cache Reinstalling iOS Simulator runtimes and reconfiguration of simulators. Tested using different simulator and runtime versions. "xcrun simctl --set previews delete al" My reported issues: FB20987522 FB20485454 Thank you Best regards, Jens

iOS 26 beta - Crash using QLPreviewController (QuickLook) in simulator.
Using the iOS 26 beta simulator, I am experiencing a crash using the QLPreviewController. This is easily reproduced using a small sample app and a sample excel file in the bundle. It does work in prior Xcode 16.4 and simulators (18.5). I didn't find any mention of this in Xcode 26 or iOS 26 release notes but I could have missed something. I don't have a spare device to update to iOS 26 and try on a real device so it may just be a simulator issue? Any feedback would be helpful. Thanks. Error: QuickLook/QLHostRemoteViewModel.swift:37: Fatal error: No extensions could be found matching '_AppExtensionQuery(extensionPointIdentifier: "com.apple.quicklook.UIExtensionPoint", predicate: nil, hostAuditToken: nil, extensionPoint: nil, allowsDuplicates: true)' Sample view controller... import UIKit import QuickLook class ViewController: UIViewController, QLPreviewControllerDataSource { var excelFileURL: URL! override func viewDidLoad() { super.viewDidLoad() // Load the Excel file (example: from bundle) if let url = Bundle.main.url(forResource: "file_example_XLSX_100", withExtension: "xlsx") { excelFileURL = url presentPreviewController() } } func presentPreviewController() { let previewController = QLPreviewController() previewController.dataSource = self present(previewController, animated: true, completion: nil) } // MARK: - QLPreviewControllerDataSource func numberOfPreviewItems(in controller: QLPreviewController) -> Int { return 1 } func previewController(_ controller: QLPreviewController, previewItemAt index: Int) -> QLPreviewItem { return excelFileURL as QLPreviewItem } }
