Reply to Beginner’s question on learning philosophy.
Well, welcome. Most Apple documentation is a reference of API calls, generated from header files. It tells you how to spell them, what the parameters are, sometimes what those parameters mean, what OS versions you can use them in, and not much else. Learning from these resources is like trying to learn a natural language from a dictionary. Apple has some videos from WWDC presentations about new technologies, but these tend to assume familiarity with the language and the problem domain. In the olden days (maybe twenty years ago), I might have said get a book, but books are out of date the moment they are written. If you have access to an AI, I can recommend this approach. Prompt it with a program you have written in Python. Tell it that you are a Python programmer, and you are new to Swift, and that it should translate the program to Swift, and explain what it does and how the code compares to the Python implementation. Ask it to provide links to relevant documentation. Then read the explanation it pr

ARKit Eye Tracking Calibration Issues - Word-Level Reading Tracking Feasibility
Hi Apple Developer Community, I'm developing an eye-tracking application using ARKit's ARFaceTrackingConfiguration and ARFaceAnchor.blendShapes for gaze detection using Xcode. I'm experiencing several calibration and accuracy issues and would appreciate insights from the community. Current Implementation Using ARFaceAnchor.blendShapes (.eyeLookUpLeft, .eyeLookDownLeft, .eyeLookInLeft, .eyeLookOutLeft, etc.) Implementing custom sensitivity curves and smoothing algorithms Applying baseline correction and coordinate mapping Using quadratic regression for calibration point mapping Issues I'm Facing 1. Calibration Mismatch Red dot position doesn't align with where I'm actually looking Significant offset between intended gaze point and actual cursor position Calibration seems to drift or become inaccurate over time 2. Extreme Eye Movement Requirements Need to make exaggerated eye movements to reach screen edges/corners Natural eye movements don't translate to proportional cursor movement Difficulty reachin

How can I optimize multilingual string translations in SwiftUI for App Store apps using Localization APIs?
Hi team, I’m developing an iOS app that helps manage and translate multilingual content . The app uses SwiftUI with Localizable.strings and Bundle.localizedString(forKey:). I’m trying to optimize for dynamic language switching inside the app without restarting. I’ve tested various methods like: Text(NSLocalizedString(welcome_text, comment: )) and some approaches using @Environment(.locale), but the system doesn’t always update views instantly when language changes. Question: What’s the recommended approach (or WWDC reference) for real-time language change handling in SwiftUI apps targeting iOS 18+?

Question about Shield customization limits in ManagedSettingsUI (videos, text length, personalization)
Hi everyone, I’m currently developing a parental control app that uses the Screen Time API (FamilyControls, ManagedSettings, DeviceActivity). I have a question regarding the customization limits of the Shield UI in ManagedSettingsUI. From the documentation, I understand that we can customize the ShieldConfiguration (background color, blur style, icon, title, subtitle, button labels, etc.). However, I’d like to clarify a few points before finalizing the design: 1. Is it allowed (or technically possible) to display custom media content, such as videos, animations, or interactive elements, inside a custom Shield? 2. Are there limitations on the text length for the title and subtitle fields (e.g. maximum number of characters, multiline support, truncation behavior)? 3. Can the Shield be personalized per user (for example, showing a different title or color scheme based on user preferences or device state)? 4. Are there App Store Review restrictions or UI guidelines that define what a Shield should or sho

Reply to Building macOS apps with Xcode 26 on macOS 26 VM
Hi @RickMaddy, just tried the update method yesterday and now I can confirm it works as described. Installed macOS 14.6.1 to a fresh VM, then upgraded to Tahoe via System Settings. As one would expect, the UDID remained unchanged after the upgrade, which seems essential for the developer signature to work correctly. My developer-signed app built on the host machine starts without issues in the guest running macOS 16 (after adding the UDID in the Developer portal). Please see if it works for you—still a bit cumbersome, but looks much more convenient compared to the dual-boot scheme.

Reply to Manipulation stops working when changing rooms
@Vision Pro Engineer Thanks for looking at this. As requested, I uploaded an Xcode project and some new notes. This has a sphere with a default manipulation component, presented in a Volume. That's all it takes. I did some more testing with this today. Here is a breakdown if what I see: I put the headset on in room A and use manipulation. Works as intended. I physically walk to room B and try to use manipulation: TRANSLATION does not work. Once this breaks, it breaks across all apps. Restarting the device has been the only fix. It doesn't seem to matter how the volume is moved to Room B. All three of these provide the same result. Close the app in room A and open in room B Drag the app by the window bar to room B Render open apps when I get to room B. jkdufair posted a comment on another thread that I found interesting. https://developer.apple.com/forums/thread/790041?answerId=860905022#860905022 This comment seems to indicate that having a Photos widget in the room can trigger this can't translate

Report a Dynamic Island bug
Please note that after enabling the Larger Text option under Settings -> Display & Brightness -> Display Zoom, when the Dynamic Island is present, a bug occurs where the Dynamic Island blocks the signal strength icon when you repeatedly return to the home screen and open apps. I hope you can fix this bug and release an iOS 18 build. In line with what I mentioned in my previous post, please allow regular users to successfully roll back to iOS 18. The signing window for iOS 18 was closed too quickly this time—I haven’t even finished experiencing it before getting stuck on iOS 26. Moreover, iOS 26 currently has numerous bugs, and you have no reason to force users to use an unfinished system. Note that this bug still persists on iOS 26. I hope my feedback can be accurately translated by AI without ambiguity. If you have any doubts, please feel free to ask me. I really can't get used to iOS 26, so please be sure to release a system version that allows downgrading from iOS 26 to iOS 18. My device

Request Apple to reopen the signature verification for iOS 18 officially.
I don't know English, so I used a translation software. Please excuse me. The verification will be closed in September this time. It's really too fast. After I experienced iOS 26, I found that I couldn't go back to iOS 18. iOS 26 still has many immature aspects. You can't trap users in an unfinished system. Look at these two images. It's easy to notice that the background blur effect in the iOS 26 control center appears cheaper compared to the background blur in iOS 18. It's a pity that the uploaded images have to be compressed, making the differences less obvious in the preview. Besides this, iOS 26 still has many imperfections. For example, when long-pressing the Wi-Fi button, the pop-up Wi-Fi options do not have the liquid glass effect. Additionally, there is a brief color issue after closing this Wi-Fi menu. I'm not sure if the previous translations fully conveyed the message, but I sincerely hope Apple can temporarily reopen the signing verification for iOS 18 to allow users to downgrad

NSViewController, awakeFromNib, Tahoe and hangs
Mostly a heads up, maybe this will help other people. I had a very simple test app for MacOS, just a ViewController with an OutlineView that had two columns, and the column data was initialized in awakeFromNib of the NSViewController like this: override func awakeFromNib() { if dataArray.count == 0 { dataArray.append( Node( firstname: John, lastname: Doe ) ) dataArray.append( Node( firstname: Mary, lastname: Smith ) ) } self.content = dataArray } There's also a toolbar with a button and a search field. This worked perfectly fine on Sequoia and Xcode 16, but since I updated to Tahoe and Xcode 26, if I try to run/debug the app from Xcode it hangs and eventually crashes. If Debug Executable is enabled in the scheme the crash is in libMainThreadChecker with EXC_BAD_ACCESS, and without debug it's a crash report with Thread stack size exceeded due to excessive recursion. I found that if I moved the self.content assignment inside the if block the problems went away: override func awakeFromNib() { if dataArr

Ensure that macOS-only SwiftPM project main & test source builds via swift, xcodebuild & Xcode
I want to ensure that the main & test source of my macOS-only SwiftPM project (on GitHub at mas) builds via swift, xcodebuild & Xcode. For builds of clean clones of the main branch (i.e. no locally edited files, no existing .build or .swiftpm folders, etc.): The swift command line below builds main & test fine: swift build --build-tests The xcodebuild command line below doesn't seem to run the SwiftPM MASBuildToolPlugin (which generates a Swift file necessary for the build), which is setup for the project in Package.swift, so neither main nor test build: xcodebuild -scheme MAS -destination platform=macOS,arch=$(arch),variant=macos How can I get xcodebuild to run my MASBuildToolPlugin, or to run an equivalent? In Xcode, building main works fine, so Xcode must run the SwiftPM MASBuildToolPlugin. Fous, FocusState and Architecture
I am currently struggling with resolving what appear to be competing design issues, and (while I may be just demonstrating my own ignorance) I would like to share my thoughts in the hope that you may have useful insights. For purposes of discussion, consider a large and complex data entry screen with multiple sections for input. For all of the usual reasons (such as reuse, performance management, etc) each of these sections is implemented as its own, separately-compiled View. The screen is, then, composed of a sequence of reusable components. However, each of these components has internal structure and may contain multiple focusable elements (and internal use of .onKeyPress(.tab) {...} to navigate internally). And the logic of each component is such that it has an internal @FocusState variable defined with its own unique type. So, obviously what I want is on the one hand, to provide a tab-based navigation scheme for the screen as a whole, where focus moves smoothly from one component's internals to t

Reply to PCIDriverKit entitlements during development
Just to let you know, FB19449747 has been fixed, so there is now a development-only entitlement for PCI DriverKit. For aesthetic reasons, we went with DriverKit PCI (development) instead of DriverKit PCI Transport (development)”, but other than that it should be exactly what you asked for. Two notes on the entitlement: (1) The configuration in your entitlement plist is a bit more complicated than the other development entitlements: com.apple.developer.driverkit.transport.pci IOPCIPrimaryMatch 0xFFFFFFFF&0x00000000 In IOPCIDevice, that translates to match any pid/vid. (2) By design, this entitlement will NOT match against Built In hardware. That won't have any effect on active product development, but if you try to match against our internal hardware for testing/experimental purposes, this is why*. *Ironically, we actually discovered this by accident while trying to verify the entitlement was doing what we wanted. __ Kevin Elliott DTS Engineer, CoreOS/Hardware

Reply to XCTestPlan environment variable not retrieved in xcode 26
Ok, I think I got it to work. I think I was using the wrong build scheme. It appears to work when selecting the test scheme in xcode before running the tests. I think previously xcode would automatically switch schemes, or at least a prompt would appear asking if I wanted to switch schemes, I could be wrong, though. Thanks.
