Long loading time if HLS playlist is very long
We want to support a long history on live channels, so we have a very long playlist with over 1000 chunks. Most players we test have no issues with it, but the iOS player as well as Apple TV (airplay) take a very long time to start. I wonder why, and if we are missing something. Here is the playlist: #EXTM3U #EXT-X-VERSION:3 #EXT-X-TARGETDURATION:10 #EXT-X-MEDIA-SEQUENCE:67707249 #EXT-X-PROGRAM-DATE-TIME:2023-02-22T13:28:21.658Z #EXT-X-INDEPENDENT-SEGMENTS #EXT-X-START:TIME-OFFSET=-15 #EXTINF:10.000, #EXT-X-KEY:METHOD=AES-128,URI="/index.php?censored" https://cdn012.censored.com/streams/6791/67707249.ts #EXTINF:10.000, #EXT-X-KEY:METHOD=AES-128,URI="/index.php?censored" https://cdn012.censored.com/streams/6791/67707250.ts #EXTINF:10.000, #EXT-X-KEY:METHOD=AES-128,URI="/index.php?censored" https://cdn012.censored.com/streams/6791/67707251.ts #EXTINF:10.000, ... 1080 entries Again, if we reduce this to 5 entries, all is fine and quick. Other players (VLC, Android, MPV, OpenPlayer(hls.js)) have no issues.

Identify AppleTv device by its Model Id
Device Id has always been different for devices with different hardware specs, unfortunately this is not the case for the last release Apple TV 4K (3rd generation). Is there a way to identify this new Apple TV on its two different versions (with or without Ethernet)? The issue is that they both have the same Device Id (AppleTv14.1). The difference between them is in Model Id (A2737 vs A2843). Any idea about how to get this Model Identifier? More info: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_TV#Technical_specifications

HomePod selected as Apple TV default audio doesn’t work
I have Been struggling for few months now after buying a homepod to pair with my Apple TV. The problem is basically after setting the HomePod as the default audio output, it just simply keeps disconnecting and I get the screen attached with “try again” or select a different audio output. Trying again will make it work for few seconds (sometimes a minute) then it will disconnect again with the same error screen. It just keeps happening all the time. so far I have tried: resetting the Apple TV and Homepod to factory setting deleting the home and creating new home (in the home app) apple replaced the HomePod under warranty after bringing the issue to their attention. We have eliminated the possibility of a HomePod hardware issue I have purchased the new Apple TV (the latest one , with the silver remote) . Thus, eliminating an Apple TV hardware issue the problem could be replicated in apple store (using their own TV & their network) . thus eliminating a router or TV issue there has been few software updates and I’m on the latest (14.6) for both Apple TV and HomePod The issue still occurs. I can’t enjoy any movie or TV show for more than few seconds with The Homepod as the default Audio option. Apple support have run some diagnostics but haven’t got back to me yet. any thoughts ?

AppleTV "This device is being ignored" Xcode Pairing Loop
Hi, I am trying to pair my Apple TV with Xcode in the Devices and Simulators Window. Whenever I pair the device using the six digit pairing code, Xcode places the Apple TV in its ignored devices list. I can delete the Apple TV from the ignored devices list: defaults delete com.apple.dt.Xcode.plist DVTIgnoredDevices But repairing always places the device right back on the list. I have also tried trashing the CoreSimulator folder based upon an older thread with no luck. No combination of unpairing the ATV, restarting the ATV, restarting the desktop running Xcode, praying to the ATV Gods seems to work. Any thoughts on how to debug this issue would be most welcome.

Apple TV 3 dead or standby?
Hi, I just notice a few days after having to setup for a new Box TV received from the TV and Internet provider, that my Apple TV does not work anymore. The led is off and the HDMI port connected to the AppleTV is not shown on the TV configuration. I'm convinced that there was somehow a current failure during the setup of my new box TV. I change the HDMI cable but without success Question: How to make sure that the Apple TV is dead or simply in standby. In the late, how to restart it Many thank Jean

Education-App on Apple-TV?
Dear Forum, we are planning the development of a iOS-based application which is running on apple-TVs. The main use will be in our partner-schools, since the content is education based. Detecting tap on tvOS with SwiftUI
For SwiftUI, I found the .focusable() modifier very useful in making views focusable. However, once focused, I found *no* way of detecting a press on that view. I can find if the play/pause button was selected. I can find if the menu button was selected, but found no method to detect taps and long presses. Why are these not available on tvOS? Is there another way?

Apple TV volume stopped working after tvOS 16 update
Before updating to tvOS 16 I was able to control the volume of my stereo with the Apple TV remote. After the update to 16, the volume control and mute stopped working. I can't be certain that it was due to the update, but the timing seems to coincide. I tried to reprogram the remote. The Apple TV can recognize when I press the volume and mute buttons on the stereo remote, but then the Apple TV remote still can't control the volume. The light on the Apple TV flashes when I press the volume and mute button on the Apple TV remote, but there is no volume change. The Apple TV and stereo are sitting next to each other and there is no obstruction. The remote battery power is 89%. I am still able to control volume using the stereo remote, but I'd rather not have to juggle two remotes. Is it possible to downgrade to the previous tvOS release to verify that it was caused by 16? Any other suggestions to fix the issue? Thanks!

Dolby Atmos Sound muffled when playing 4k HVEC files
Since the upgrade to ios16 on my Apple TV the sound when playing Movies in 4k is muffled high frequency noises... I have a sound bar connected through ARC to the rest of my surround sound now I was tempted to do a reset on my Apple TV but then thought let me play around with Video and sound settings... So Video is set to 4k 50hz and sound format was set to off so it uses the auto using Dolby Atmos etc... So long story short I changed format to on and used Dolby Digital 5.1 and has resolved the muffling noises when playing 4k videos... The issue I have now is since the setting changed not all my speakers work "surround sound" as it should... Wondering if this is a bug ? And if testing the beta version resolves this issue or not...? Thanks

Smoothness of the AppleTV app on SmartTVs
Probably not an everyday question, but I’m just curious how is AppleTV+ app so fast on Samsung tizen? By fast I mean the navigation speed, animations smoothness and etc.. it’s just amazing compared to other apps. I develop TV apps myself, but I cannot achieve the same smooth behaviour… How was it developed? Is it an HTML cross platform app for smart TVs? Was it written with something like React? If any of the AppleTV+ app devs can share some tips and good practices it would be amazing! Thanks!

Can't reset Apple TV 4K nor connect via Paired Devices
Hi and sorry for my first question I want to factory reset the Apple TV 4K The Apple TV is "online" (Ping on IP address). When I try to pair it with "Paired Devices/Apple Configurator", nothing happens. I don't have access to the Apple TV setting. After booting I only see " Connection Error" "Check your setting and try again" "ok" When I press "ok", there is only a background appearing. Nothing else. Only the Volume up and down are showing function. Pressing "Menu" and "Screen" on the remote for 6 seconds just restarts the Apple TV and brings the same error. Any hints how I could reset it? Much appreciated.

When I run the xcrun xctrace list devices I can see my Apple TV device available but when I run my command xcodebuild clean build-for-testing -workspace /path/to/WebDriverAgent.xcworkspace -scheme WebDriverAgentRunner_tvOS -destination 'platform=tvOS,id=<device_id>' -configuration Debug -derivedDataPath /derived_data/wda-1.21.0-16, I get error for unable to find destination for specifier. Note devices is paired on apple configurator, but when I open xcode devices and simulators I cannot see my Apple TV to pair/connect with Output of xcrun xctrace list devices: == Devices == app’s Mac mini (109) (DBAD4F3E-9241-55B4-B807-B4A6821D1106) DUBDC2 (15.6) (5f4e732a47cc09583e9465d0c14055aae7e211fb) D, [2022-10-24T13:47:01.979998 #11231] DEBUG -- : == Simulators == Apple TV Simulator (16.0) (08C13957-7CB3-435A-A501-314A281BE198) Apple TV 4K (2nd generation) Simulator (16.0) (C33585C7-CDA9-4892-8D20-76ABAFCA6FD4) Apple TV 4K (at 1080p) (2nd generation) Simulator (16.0) (B5ED5820-CF06-4625-8FD6-2F73938AFA68) Apple Watch SE (44mm) (2nd generation) (9.0) (56512F26-4D9B-44DD-808A-08377EF0A169) Apple Watch Series 5 (40mm) (9.0) (A7E5F23E-A0CC-4D3A-BCB8-52C5AF1BD254) Apple Watch Series 5 (44mm) (9.0) (E46A8BCF-4C41-410A-93CB-B4146E674C3A) Apple Watch Series 6 (40mm) (9.0) (8A698CE6-85B0-4AB1-9223-6DCD434E9B69) Apple Watch Series 6 (44mm) (9.0) (200C575F-9DBC-42BA-A70D-2A6B5099E657) Apple Watch Series 7 (41mm) (9.0) (B646151B-E010-4562-ABE2-E96B04AE350E) iPad (9th generation) Simulator (16.0) (B7FCD718-E13B-49E7-B4C8-6D3856D54E26) iPad Air (5th generation) Simulator (16.0) (7732EC7C-625A-4B19-9316-C0D7E96EFC52) iPad Pro (11-inch) (3rd generation) Simulator (16.0) (BA51A2D7-A4BB-43DB-A7D3-DFB60E940962) iPad Pro (12.9-inch) (5th generation) Simulator (16.0) (39EE38F4-8069-4984-9110-4A733DD808FF) iPad mini (6th generation) Simulator (16.0) (BA470AB4-9224-49AC-ADBC-772883CB98F8) iPhone 14 Simulator (16.0) (1B689D89-A47D-49CE-BA02-C1C683722CCB) iPhone 14 Simulator (16.0) + Apple Watch Series 7 (45mm) (9.0) (A7C80387-8B4D-4062-8807-D9796B218CD9) iPhone 14 Plus Simulator (16.0) (E5A429EE-D07A-4049-99AD-E47D63A90B16) iPhone 14 Plus Simulator (16.0) + Apple Watch Series 8 (41mm) (9.0) (6EAF6B16-C74C-4151-875F-A3EE14F0CE33) iPhone 14 Pro Simulator (16.0) (29F5BA67-D0A0-410C-BC4C-E6161CF78AF8) iPhone 14 Pro Simulator (16.0) + Apple Watch Series 8 (45mm) (9.0) (0E276761-D51A-4D5B-AE61-DE1A62C32FE0) iPhone 14 Pro Max Simulator (16.0) (F9E2F498-6193-4E43-A009-98D17B59CF94) iPhone 14 Pro Max Simulator (16.0) + Apple Watch Ultra (49mm) (9.0) (0F6D9CE8-7BB5-4BC2-9F38-E9B81BEBBCAE) iPhone SE (3rd generation) Simulator (16.0) (E5AF9BC8-3DF9-41FD-A9D7-45C1E7557123) Output of xcodebuild clean build-for-testing -workspace /path/to/WebDriverAgent.xcworkspace -scheme WebDriverAgentRunner_tvOS -destination 'platform=tvOS,id=<device_id>' -configuration Debug -derivedDataPath /derived_data/wda-1.21.0-16 2022-10-24 13:47:34.329 xcodebuild[27968:40302780] Writing error result bundle to /var/folders/ty/yvsx9c_j713fk8jzgrq82vfw0000gn/T/ResultBundle_2022-24-10_13-47-0034.xcresult xcodebuild: error: Unable to find a destination matching the provided destination specifier: { platform:tvOS, id:5f4e732a47cc09583e9465d0c14055aae7e211fb } The requested device could not be found because no available devices matched the request.

Thanks

ROI on games to publish on Apple TV tvOS
Hello guys, we have some games working on ios platform and now we want to publish them to Apple tv. I have some questions How can we earn from games from tvOS? Is it worth it to put some effort on converting unity games to tvOS? What is the percentage of users using tvOS?
