Logging in with my Apple ID anywhere in the system (feedback assistant, Xcode, iCloud, etc.) fails when running under virtualization. Is this a known 'issue'? (networking in general is working fine)

Hi everyone,
We work on a macOS plugin which then gets loaded into another application. I'm trying to load a webpage in that application through our plugin using a WKWebView & I set my class as the navigationDelegate for the same. I do not receive any callbacks for the WKNavigationDelegate methods. I have debugged & made sure that the navigationDelegate is actually set to my class. Here is a sample code of what I'm doing :
[[NSApplication sharedApplication] runModalForWindow:self.mWindowController.window];
- (void)windowDidLoad
{
[super windowDidLoad];
[self.window makeKeyAndOrderFront:self];
[self.window orderFrontRegardless];
if (self.mLoadingView == nil)
{
self.mLoadingView = [[LoadingView alloc] initWithFrame:[[self.window contentView] frame]];
}
[[self.window contentView] addSubview:self.mLoadingView];
[self.mLoadingView showLoadingView];
[self.window setLevel:NSMainMenuWindowLevel];
[self loadWebPage];
}
-(void)loadWebPage
{
[self.mWKWebView setUIDelegate:self];
[self.mWKWebView setNavigationDelegate:self];
[self.mWKWebView stopLoading];
NSURL *lURL = [self samplePageURL];
WKNavigation *lNavigation = [self.mWKWebView loadRequest:[NSURLRequest requestWithURL:lURL]];
}
- (void)webView:(WKWebView *)pWKWebView
didFinishNavigation:(WKNavigation *)pNavigation
{
[self removeLoadingview];
[self.mWKWebView evaluateJavaScript:@"document.body.setAttribute('oncontextmenu', 'event.preventDefault();');" completionHandler:nil];
}
I do not get any calls in the webView:didFinishNavigation: & I also tried other methods like webView:didStartProvisionalNavigation, webView:didFailProvisionalNavigation:withError: etc but did not receive any call in those either. Instead of runModalForWindow: if I use showWindow: on the mWindowController the webpage somehow loads but I still don't get any callbacks & so the loadingview subview is also present. The WKWebView is placed in a storyboard, and I have an IBOutlet connected to it in my class.
Has anyone faced a similar issue or can point me to something I might be missing? All help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.
I installed the WWDC beta on UTM and I'm unable to find the option to disable the so-called "Natural Scrolling". Has this been removed and if so, can we get it put back?
I use a mouse with scroll wheel and everything is going opposite the direction I expect in the macOS 26 VM.
Given that I have enabled System Settings -> General -> Software Update -> Beta Updates -> macOS Tahoe 26 Developer Beta.
When I run the following command:
softwareupdate --list-full-installers
I'm not seeing macOS 26 within the resulting list:

Is there an issue with the softwareupdate utility?
"Rosetta was designed to make the transition to Apple silicon easier, and we plan to make it available for the next two major macOS releases – through macOS 27 – as a general-purpose tool for Intel apps to help developers complete the migration of their apps. Beyond this timeframe, we will keep a subset of Rosetta functionality aimed at supporting older unmaintained gaming titles, that rely on Intel-based frameworks."
What will happen to Rosetta 2 then? Most importantly, will the ability to emulate x86_64 containers and binaries in virtual machines persist? Will Rosetta 2 be blocked only from the App Store? Will apps be barred from Rosetta, only games be able to use it? Will it only support frameworks?
Hi,
On macOS I used to open MP3 and MP4 files with ExtAudioFile. For a few years it doesn't work anymore.
So I decided to try different macOS API using the AudioFileID of AudioToolbox framework.
I decided to write a test:
https://gist.github.com/joelkraehemann/7f5b241b52ca38c3a765c138fb647588
It fails right here:
AudioFileOpenWithCallbacks()
By telling OSStatus error 1954115647, which means kAudioFileUnsupportedFileTypeError.
The filename was set to an MP4 file:
~/Music/test.mp4
Howto fix this?
regards, Joël
I work on EdenFS, an open-source Virtual Filesystem that runs on macOS, Linux, and Windows. My team is very interested in using FSKit as the basis for EdenFS on macOS, but have found the documentation to be lacking and contains some mixed messaging on the future of FSKit. Below are a few questions that don’t seem to be fully covered by the current documentation:
Does FSKit support process attribution? Each FUSE request provides a requester Process ID (and other information) through the fuse_in_header structure. Does FSKit pass similar information along for each request?
Does the reclaimItem API function similarly to FUSE’s forget operation? If not, what are the differences? See #1 below for why forget/reclaimItem matters to us.
Is Apple committed to releasing and supporting FSKit? Is there any timeline for release that we can plan around?
Does FSKit have known performance/scalability limitations? We provide alternative methods that clients can use to make bulk requests to EdenFS, but some clients will necessarily be unable to use those and stress the default filesystem APIs. Throughput (on the order of tens of thousands of filesystem requests per minute) and request size are the main concerns, followed closely by directory size restrictions.
Why we’re interested in FSKit
As mentioned above, my team supports EdenFS on 3 platforms. On Linux, we utilize FUSE; on Windows, we utilize ProjectedFS; and on macOS, we’ve utilized a few different solutions in the past. We first utilized the macFUSE kext, which was great while it lasted. Due to (understandable) changes in supporting kernel extensions, we were forced to move to NFS version 3. NFS has been lackluster in comparison (and our initial investigations show that NFS version 4(.2) would be similar). We have had numerous scalability and reliability issues, some listed below:
NFS does not provide a forget API similar to FUSE. EdenFS is forced to remember all file handles that have been loaded because the kernel never informs us when all references to that file handle have been dropped. We can hackily infer that a file handle should never be referenced again in some cases, but a large number of file handles end up being remembered forever. Many of our algorithms scale with the number of file handles that Eden has to consider, and therefore performance issues are inevitable after some time.
NFS does not provide information about clients (requesters). We cannot tell which processes are sending EdenFS requests. This attribution is important due to issue #1. We are forced to work with tool owners to modify their applications to be VFS-friendly. If we can’t track down which tools are behaving poorly, they will continue to load excess file handles and cause performance issues.
NFS “Server connections interrupted:” dialog during heavy load. Under heavy load, either EdenFS or system-wide, our users experience this dialog pop-up and are confused as to how they should respond (Ignore or Disconnect All). They become blocked in their work, and will be further blocked if they click “Disconnect All” as that unmounts their EdenFS mount. This forces them to restart EdenFS or reboot their laptop to remediate the issue.
The above issues make us extremely motivated to use FSKit and partner with Apple to flesh out the final version of the FSKit API. Our use case likely mirrors what other user-space filesystems will be looking for in the FSKit API (albeit at a larger scale than most), and we’re willing to collaborate to work out any issues in the current FSKit offerings.
I understand this is a known issue, but it’s truly unacceptable that it remains unresolved. Allowing users to customize toolbars is a fundamental macOS feature, and it has been broken since the release of macOS 15.
How is it possible that this issue persists even in macOS 15.3 beta (24D5040f)?

Hello,
Now I would like to export my PDF's as PDF/A. In my opinion, there is also the right option for this under Core Graphics.
Unfortunately, the documentation does not show what is 'kCGPDFContextCreatePDFA' or 'kCGPDFContextLinearizedPDF' for
a stringvalue is required.
What I have already tried: GTS_PDFA1 , PDF/A-1, true as CFString.
(Above my CFDictionary. ...Author e.g are working perfectly.)
In the Finder you can see these two options, which I would also like to implement in my app.
Thank you in advance!
I’m running macOS 26 Beta 1 (build 25A5279m) on a 2019 Mac Pro (MacPro7,1) with a single 4K display connected via HDMI. Whenever I attempt to launch Finder, WindowServer immediately aborts and the machine reboots.
Crash details:
Process: WindowServer (PID 1441)
Exception: EXC_CRASH (SIGABRT) triggered in thread 0 (ws_main_thread)
Termination Reason: Abort trap: 6
Backtrace highlights:
CA::OGL::MetalContext::draw(MTLPrimitiveType, …) hits an internal __assert_rtn in libsystem_c.dylib
Subsequent calls all stem from QuartzCore’s OpenGL/Metal bridge (CA::OGL::render_layers, LayerNode::apply, etc.)
Related threads:

Thread 1 shows AmbientDisplay and ColorSync callbacks running

What I’ve tried so far:
Safe-boot (crash still occurs)
Switching display profiles in System Settings → Displays → Color (no effect)
Happy to provide any additional logs or verbose console output. Let me know if there’s any other data that would help diagnose the Metal/OpenGL integration issue in this beta.
I have an NSStatusBar application. This is my first in SwiftUI. And I need to know when the window is closed so that I can disable some of menu commands. I can use NSWindowDelegate with AppDelegate as follows.
import SwiftUI
@main
struct SomeApp: App {
@NSApplicationDelegateAdaptor(AppDelegate.self) var appDelegate
@StateObject private var menuViewModel = MenuViewModel()
var body: some Scene {
WindowGroup {
ContentView()
.environmentObject(menuViewModel)
}
}
}
class AppDelegate: NSObject, NSApplicationDelegate, NSWindowDelegate {
private var menuViewModel = MenuViewModel()
func applicationDidFinishLaunching(_ notification: Notification) {
if let window = NSApplication.shared.windows.first {
window.setIsVisible(false)
window.delegate = self
}
}
func windowWillClose(_ notification: Notification) {
menuViewModel.windowClosed = true
}
}
When the window will close, MenuViewModel (ObservableObject) will receive a call, which I want my ContentView to receive. But, so far, it won't.
import SwiftUI
struct ContentView: View {
var body: some View {
ZStack {
...
...
}
.onReceive(statusBarViewModel.$windowClosed) { result in
// never called...
}
}
}
Can a SwiftUI View receive a call somehow when its window closes? Muchos thankos.

If you call ATTrackingManager.trackingAuthorizationStatus in macOS, the result is always ATTrackingManager.AuthorizationStatus.notDetermined.
So, does macOS support getting ATT?
Can someone please help me: I do not have the brain space (85yo) to figure out an Apple Script or Java Script app to do this simple task.
I have spent a few hours each day, over several days, and have made zero progress on such an apparently simple task.
I wish to create an Automator App for the macOS Safari browser that will schedule (via a Calendar Event) the download of the 48hr data behind the hourly Fuel Mix Plot Data from the AEMO Web Site, every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.
Here is the link to the AEMO web site:
AEMO, Energy Systems, Electricity, National Electricity Market (NEM), Data (NEM),Data Dashboard
https://www.aemo.com.au/energy-systems/electricity/national-electricity-market-nem/data-nem/data-dashboard-nem
The 48 hour hourly Fuel Mix data is found by selecting the "Fuel Mix" button (which by default will display the NEM Current Trend).
The 48 hour trend is displayed by tapping on the small "Current" pulldown menu, and selecting "48 hrs".
The 48hr Data is down loaded by selecting the small circular button just to the right of the pulldown menu.

I am familiar with C++ and have built Xcode Apps, and used Excel Macros extensively in the past.
Thank you.
Robert.
I've built a VPN app that is based on wireguard on macOS (I have both AppStore ver. and Developer ID ver). I want to achieve split tunneling function without changing the system route table.
Currently, I'm making changes in PacketTunnelProvider: NEPacketTunnelProvider. It has included/excluded routes that function as a split tunnel, just that all changes are immediately reflected on the route table: if I run
netstat -rn
in terminal, I would see all rules/CIDRs I added, displayed all at once. Since I have a CIDR list of ~800 entries, I'd like to avoid changing the route table directly.
I've asked ChatGPT, Claude, DeepSeek, .etc. An idea was to implement an 'interceptor' to
intercept all packets in packetFlow(_:readPacketsWithCompletionHandler:), extract the destination IP from each packet, check if it matches your CIDR list, and either reinject it back to the system interface (for local routing) or process it through your tunnel.
Well, LLMs could have hallucinations and I've pretty new to macOS programming. I'm asking to make sure I'm on the right track, not going delusional with those LLMs :) So the question is, does the above method sounds feasible? If not, is it possible to achieve split tunneling without changing the route table?
I have code that captures a window and displays a cropped image. The problem is 2 fold. Kit doesn't seem to allow to modify stop and recapture image in window mode to capture a portion of the screen.
So this makes me having to crop and display the cropped image via a published variable. This all works find. But seems to stop after some time.
Using an M1 16gig ram. program is taking less than 100meg of mem with 40-70%cpu as the crow flies.
printing captured success in debug mode and sometimes frame isn't valid so guarding against it.
any ideas on how to improve my strategy?
Hi,
I am getting into a trap. Please check stack-trace, howto fix this?
regards, Joël
stack-trace with ExtAudioFileWrite
Step1. Update system.login.screensaver authorizationdb rule to use “authenticate-session-owner-or-admin”( to get old SFAutorizationPluginView at Lock Screen ). Here I will use my custom authorization plugin.
Step 2. Once the rule is in place, logout and login, now click on Apple icon and select “Lock Screen”.
Is there a way programmatically to update the Lock Icon and the test getting displayed on the first Unlock screen? When I write a custom authorisation plug-in, I am getting control of the text fields and any consecutive screen I add from there on. But all I want is to update the lock icon and text fields on 1st unlock display itself. Can you please suggest how I can achieve this? Here is the screenshot with marked areas I am looking control for.
My Objective-C Catalyst app when built with Xcode 16.x/iOS 18 does not have a visible Tab Bar when run on Sequoia. App starts up in first tab, but there is no way to access other tabs. The same app when run on macOS Sonoma (or macOS Catalina) has a normal Tab Bar.
The app has an initial View UITabBarController with 3 tabs. The main tab is a UiSplitViewController. Minimum macOS deployment 10.5.
If app is built on Sonoma with Xcode 15.x/iOS 17 the Tab Bar is normal on macOS Sonoma, Sequoia, and Catalina.
I've tried without success:
if (@available(macCatalyst 18.0, *)) {
self.tabBarController.tabBarHidden = false;
} else {
// Fallback on earlier versions
}
I wonder if this console log message has anything to do with the problem:
CLIENT OF UIKIT REQUIRES UPDATE: This process does not adopt UIScene lifecycle. This will become an assert in a future version.
I wonder how one would use IOBluetoothHandsFree APIs to interact from macOS app with a bluetooth device that implements bluetooth hands free profile. My current observation is as follows:
IOBluetoothDevice object representing the device correctly identifies it as a hands free device, i.e.:
there is a proper record in services array, that matches the kBluetoothSDPUUID16ServiceClassHandsFree uuid,
the IOBluetoothDevice handsFreeDevice property returns 1
Attempt to create IOBluetoothHandsFreeDevice using IOBluetoothDevice as described above (i.e. [[IOBluetoothHandsFreeDevice alloc] initWithDevice: myIOBluetoothDeviceThatHasHandsFreeDevicePropertySetTo1 delegate: self]) results in the following output in debugger console: SRS-XB20 is not a hands free device but trying anyways.
Subsequent call to connect on an object constructed as above results in the following stream of messages:

Just wondering if it is possible to configure a secondary macbook to act as a run destination in Xcode, similar to how you would configure an iPhone as a run destination.
I have tried connecting my device via USB-C and I can see that my macbook detects the second macbook via USB but it does not show up when trying to add devices in Xcode. I suppose this flow might not be supported?
