Thanks for the post and happy you want to create a game. But your post does not provide specific questions we can answer. About the development environment you asked in your post if translate worked well: Development Environment: Xcode: This is Apple's integrated development environment (IDE). You'll need it to write and build your iOS or macOS app. Download it from the Mac App Store. Swift (Programming Language): Swift is Apple's preferred language for iOS/macOS development. It's modern, safe, and relatively easy to learn. UIKit or SwiftUI (User Interface Framework): UIKit: The traditional framework. Mature and highly documented. Might be more suitable if your team is already familiar with it. SwiftUI: Apple's newer, declarative UI framework. Easier to write cleaner and more maintainable code, especially for simple layouts. Consider this if you're starting fresh. We will focus on SwiftUI for this guide. Here are a few suggestions that might help it attract more attention: Provide more details: Expan

Reply to Background Upload Extension
How frequently will the extension trigger upload? That's a tricky question, as it's managed by Photos as part of its larger background work infrastructure. I suspect that its scheduling frequency will be roughly similar to BGProcessingTask, which generally runs roughly once a day while the device is charging/idle. However: The scheduling here is in terms of the worker that eventually runs your extension, NOT the extension itself. So the worker running once might actually translate to multiple runs of your extension. Just like the BackgroundTask framework, I'd be careful about inferring what normal behavior will look like based on individual device testing, ESPECIALLY on development devices. All of this scheduling is driven by the device tracking its own usage pattern, which can vary widely. Is iOS considering also background refresh task usage and background processing task usage to determine the frequency of the upload handled by the Upload Extension? No, I don't think so. Photos is handling all of

Reply to Tone, Sentiment, language analysis on iPhone - Ideas
Hi @YTerhorst, You're on the right track by mentioning CoreML and Natural Language. The most straightforward approach would be to utilize Natural Language Framework, which has built-in and on-device capabilities for text sentiment analysis. You can use NLTagger with the sentimentScore NLTagScheme to determine the sentiment polarity of text. This scheme assigns a score ranging from -1.0 (most negative) to 1.0 (most positive), with 0.0 indicating a neutral sentiment. Additionally, Foundation Models framework offers a lot of functionality for analyzing text using an optimized on-device language model. Finally, if you're looking for a more custom implementation, you can look into CoreML, which allows your app to utilize custom machine learning models. In regards to user privacy, a good place to get started is with our design guidelines around privacy. Best, -J

Reply to Unable to launch tests in Xcode 26
We're also getting the same error ... encountered an error (The test runner hung before establishing connection.) We tried nearly everything, including disabling the Thread Performance Checker in the test scheme shutting down all emulators via xcrun simctl shutdown all and erasing them xcrun simctl erase all force killing any potential hanging simulators beforehand clearing all Simulator logs and caches restarting the machine(s) But this still keeps popping up intermittently. We're using Xcode 26.2. Any tips on what we might want to try next? Thanks!

Apple SCEP Clients Can’t Process FIPS‑Compliant RSA‑OAEP EnvelopedData
We are currently working on a SCEP server implementation that operates in FIPS-approved mode. In this mode, RSA PKCS#1 v1.5 encryption is disallowed due to compliance requirements, and only FIPS-approved padding schemes such as RSA-OAEP are permitted. However, we have observed that the SCEP client functionality on Apple devices currently does not support RSA-OAEP for CMS EnvelopedData decryption. This creates a challenge for us in ensuring FIPS compliance while maintaining compatibility with Apple devices during certificate enrollment through SCEP. We would appreciate your guidance on the following: Are there any alternative FIPS-approved encryption algorithms or configurations supported by Apple devices for SCEP CMS EnvelopedData decryption? Is there any plan or timeline for future support of RSA-OAEP on Apple platforms for this use case? Feedback raised along with sysdiagnose logs as well : FB17655410

String Catalog stops updating upon changing source code
If you add a new string in your app (for example String(localized: contact_support_message, defaultValue: Please contact support)), then later you change that default value and rebuild, the string catalog updates to match as expected. But once that string is translated, changing the default value in code and rebuilding does not update the catalog. You seemingly have to go manually change the default value for English in the catalog to match the code (which marks the translation as Needs Review). Is there a better way? Or is there a way to determine what strings have default values in code that do not match the catalog values to see if any were missed as wording was tweaked over time?

Reply to How to properly localize AppIntent dialogs for Siri?
Thank you for the explanation! Xcode did add the localized string key %@ timer started. to my string catalog as you correctly assumed, and I have provided a proper translation: %@ Timer gestartet. However, I still don't understand why Siri does not translate the %@ part properly. When it's 10 seconds in English, it also reads 10 seconds when Siri is set to German with the number 10 being correctly translated (zehn instead of ten) but not the unit (seconds where it should read Sekunden). Summary & Overview: Localized String Key: %@ timer started. English output: Displayed text: 10 seconds timer started. Spoken by Siri: Ten seconds timer started. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 German output: Displayed text: 10 seconds Timer gestartet. Spoken by Siri: Zehn seconds Timer gestartet. 🇩🇪🇺🇸🇩🇪🇩🇪 where zehn is German, but seconds is English. This seems to be a bug? In SwiftUI on macOS, using instancing in RealityKit, how can I set individual colours per instance?
I have written this function: @available(macOS 26.0, *) func instancing() async -> Entity { let entity = Entity() do { // 1. Create a CustomMaterial let library = offscreenRenderer.pointRenderer!.device.makeDefaultLibrary()! let surfaceShader = CustomMaterial.SurfaceShader( named: surfaceShaderWithCustomUniforms, // This must match the function name in Metal in: library ) let instanceCount = 10 // No idea how to actually use this... // let bufferSize = instanceCount * MemoryLayout.stride // // // Create the descriptor // var descriptor = LowLevelBuffer.Descriptor(capacity: bufferSize, sizeMultiple: MemoryLayout.stride) // // // Initialize the buffer // let lowLevelBuffer = try LowLevelBuffer(descriptor: descriptor) // lowLevelBuffer.withUnsafeMutableBytes { rawBytes in // // Bind the raw memory to the UInt32 type // let pointer = rawBytes.bindMemory(to: UInt32.self) // pointer[1] = 0xff_0000 // pointer[0] = 0x00_ff00 // pointer[2] = 0x00_00ff // pointer[3] = 0xff_ff00 // pointer[4] = 0xff_00ff // pointer[5

Reply to String Catalog stops updating upon changing source code
But once that string is translated If by this you mean that it has translations in other languages, then Xcode is expected to update the value and mark translations as needing review automatically. But if the source string itself is already marked as translated in the xcstrings file, then you are already in a conflicted state where there is a value in code and also a source value in the xcstrings. In that case, it is expected because Xcode will never change the value of a source string that is marked as translated in the source language. It is only allowed to do so if the state is new. When such a string with a default value from code first appears in the String Catalog, it will have a state of new. The String Catalog Editor then prevents editing this string from the Catalog because the code defined the value and we don't want conflicting state. But perhaps in your case something or someone went into the JSON and flipped it to translated. In that case, thi

Reply to String Catalog stops updating upon changing source code
Thanks for the post. It seems like you have not received any replies. I think I have a suggestions for you to get people to see the issue you encountering by providing a little project sample. I am not aware of any localization issues at this time. So once that string is translated, changing the default value in code and rebuilding does not update the catalog? Or is there a way to determine what strings have default values in code that do not match the catalog values to see if any were missed as wording was tweaked over time? It’s been a long time since I use that, when I was using it I did periodically export my localization files using Xcode's Editor > Export for Localization.... This created an XLIFF file that I can diff against previous versions to spot discrepancies between default values in code and your localization files. Now, I think many developers are experts in localization and they can provide you great suggestions but I think that if you provide a little focused sample that shows in

The identity used to sign the executable is no longer valid

Xcode 26: `IDERunDestination: Supported platforms for the buildables in the current scheme is empty` repeatedly logged when running tests from `.xctestrun` file
We are seeing repeated occurrences of the following log line in test runs triggered via .xctestrun files on iOS 26: IDERunDestination: Supported platforms for the buildables in the current scheme is empty. This line is printed n number of times after a test fails, significantly increasing test execution duration (2–3 minutes extra in some cases). The issue does not occur when tests are built and run together from Xcode directly — it’s specific to .xctestrun-based executions using xcodebuild test-without-building. Steps to Reproduce: Use Xcode 26 to build a sample XCTest target (we used a simple UI test project). Locate the generated .xctestrun file under DerivedData/.../Build/Products/.... Run tests using: xcodebuild -xctestrun /path/to/sample.xctestrun -destination id= test-without-building Observe the logs during test failure. Observed Behavior: The log line IDERunDestination: Supported platforms for the buildables in the current scheme is empty appears multiple times. The test cleanup a

Whether SSC can be connected to the iPad real machine with Xcode to run the evaluation
👋Hi This problem is related to SSC. I remember that the form submitted last year needed to be filled in with Xcode or Playground test, and it seems that it was also mentioned: • If you use Xcode, the judges may use Simulator to run. • If you use Playground, it's a real machine. But my work this time will encounter two limitations: It will use the framework/API only available in iPadOS 26 (so if it is a Playground environment, it may not run, playground can't use iPadOS 26 SDK) It will also use some content that must be real to run (such as ARKit), which means that Xcode Simulator is not good. So I would like to ask: Does this year's review allow you to compile and connect the iPad to the real machine? Or did I misremember last year's regulations? If the judge's environment is fixed (for example, only Playground or only Simulator), how should I adjust the submission method or implement the scheme? Looking forward to your reply, thank you.

Manipulation stops working when changing rooms
This post documents an issue I reported in feedback FB19610114 and see if anyone knows of a workaround. Here is a copy of the feedback. Short version Manipulation (SwiftUI OR RealityKit) fails to translate entities after changing rooms. By changing rooms, I mean a human wearing an Apple Vision Pro leaving one room and entering another room. Once this issue occurs, it impacts all apps that use these features. A device restart is the only solution I have to fix it. Feedback FB19610114 This is an odd one. I'm using the new Manipulation Component in visionOS 26. Most of the time this works well. Sometime it stops working and when it does the only way to get it working again is to reboot the headset. When this happens, I can continue to rotate and scale items, but translation no longer works. It is as if the item is stuck to a fixed point in the parent scene (window, volume, etc).
