Some Macs recently received a macOS system update which disabled the simulator runtimes used by Xcode 15, including the simulators for iOS, tvOS, watchOS, and visionOS. If your Mac received this update, you will receive the following error message and will be unable to use the simulator:
The com.apple.CoreSimulator.SimRuntime.iOS-17-2 simulator runtime is not available.
Domain: com.apple.CoreSimulator.SimError
Code: 401
Failure Reason: runtime profile not found using "System" match policy
Recovery Suggestion: Download the com.apple.CoreSimulator.SimRuntime.iOS-17-2 simulator runtime from the Xcode
To resume using the simulator, please reboot your Mac. After rebooting, check Xcode Preferences → Platforms to ensure that the simulator runtime you would like to use is still installed. If it is missing, use the Get button to download it again.
The Xcode 15.3 Release Notes are also updated with this information.

What I am trying to do is very simple.
Environment description:
macOS Catalina version 10.15.7 iOS Simulator version 12.3 Target device iPhone 11 (iOS 13.2.2)
Open Safari > go to website > mictests.com
Result: "Could not find any media devices. It is very likely that your browser does not allow access to these devices."
The Simulator does have access to the microphone. I can use Siri just fine. Only Safari cannot access the mic. I'm really stuck here, any ideas are welcome.
I am having problems on Xcode13.3.1, Monterey 12.2.1, Apple M1 Max.
Sending an UpdateApplicationContext update from a paired iPhone simulator is not received on the paired Apple Watch Simulator in the didRecieveApplicationContext. However, sendMessage from the apple watch simulator does update the iphone simulator app properly. It is however, not possible to send anything from the paired iPhone simulator to the paired Apple Watch Simulator.
When working with actual devices everything works properly with WatchConnectivity with passing information back and forth via updateapplicationcontext and sendmessage calls.
Can anyone confirm this is a bug or if there is something wrong with my setup?

Hi, I have logged into an iCloud account on an iOS device simulator on my Mac to sync photos in order to test my app. The photos app is telling me syncing is paused as the device is in low power mode, but as this is a simulator, there's no network seatings to change this and I can't find out why it's in this mode or how to get it out. I've done exactly the same thing for years with no issues, but for some reason it's happening now. Has anyone else experienced the same?
The simulator device is an iPhone 13 Pro Max running 15.5 however I've tested on other device and experienced the same issue.
Many thanks,
Dan
Every time my app runs in the simulator I see this error:
Warning: Error creating LLDB target at path '/Users/aaronsmith/Library/Developer/Xcode/DerivedData/Babylist-ahvzjxxrpawwqhecszqeyvjstfca/Build/Products/Debug-iphonesimulator/Babylist.app'- using an empty LLDB target which can cause slow memory reads from remote devices: the specified architecture 'arm64--' is not compatible with 'x86_64-apple-ios13.2.0-simulator' in '/Users/aaronsmith/Library/Developer/Xcode/DerivedData/Babylist-ahvzjxxrpawwqhecszqeyvjstfca/Build/Products/Debug-iphonesimulator/Babylist.app/Babylist'
What is this? I'm on an M1, no build issues. It makes me think the simulator is running under rosetta with x68_64. But I didn't choose to do that.
Mac OS Ventura. Xcode 14 RC.
I'm testing a video stream (HLS) with AVPlayer. On XCode 14.3 and simulators running iOS 16.4, there is no video image, only black screen. The audio is playing normally, also progress/duration of the video is showing as expected. The problem does not occur on same XCode version with earlier versions of the simulator. Is this a simulator bug? I've also tested it on real device with iOS 16.4 - no problem there.
How do you force quit apps on the Vision Pro simulator?
I've read online you can double press the digital crown on a real Vision Pro device but there is no such button on the simulator. So far I've tried
Pressing the home button twice (⇧⌘H)
Pressing the Siri button twice (⌥⇧⌘H)
None of them works
I'm on Xcode 15.0 beta 5 (15A5209g) & visionOS 1.0 beta 2 (21N5207e)
I'm trying to copy some files from the Finder on macOS 14 to several Simulator instances running iOS 16 and 17. When I right-click the file in the Finder, I can select Share > Simulator, then a share dialog pops up where I select the relevant Simulator and click on Send. According to this official help topic, the Files app should open allowing me to choose the destination, but instead nothing happens and the shared file is nothing to be seen. What's the issue?
Problem: iOS 16.4 runtime targets are not available for selection, however the 16.4 simulator shows as installed under "Manage run destinations"
Config: Xcode 15.0, Sonoma 14.0, M1 Mac-Mini
Background: I write and maintain apps for my business unit. A co-worker dropped a phone on my desk and said 'The app doesn't work anymore, can you fix it'. Well, it turns out the phone is running iOS 16.6. The OS had been upgraded. This sent me down the path of upgrading Xcode on a development Mac, which also forced a MacOs upgrade on me. The end result is I now have XCode 15 on Sonoma, but have an iOS 16.6 device that I'm trying to target. Since I don't have any iOS 17 devices I didn't install the 17.0 runtime.
To install the "16.6 runtime" I went to: "Xcode - Settings - Platforms" and hit the + in the lower left and under "Previously released simulators" I selected iOS.
I selected iOS 16.4 as it was the closest I could see to 16.6 so I'm assuming it still works with 16.6. It took a few attempts to download correctly, but it now shows up in my platforms as "iOS 16.4 Simulator 6.18 GB on disk".
If I select "Product - Destination - Manage Run Destinations" I can see simulators for 10 different iOS devices (from iPad 10th gen to iPhone SE) all running iOS 16.4.
Great! I must be ready to develop and test for 16.6. Right?
Nope.
In the dropdown beside my App name the only option that is shown to me is "iOS 17" and the "Get" button beside it. I was expecting to my iOS 16.4 simulators as available target destinations, but there's nothing other than "iOS 17 - Get".
This is an old App that I'm maintaining so its deployment target is not new. Selecting a different iOS Deployment target doesn't have an effect.
I tried going into Manage Run Destinations and selected my iPhone 14 simulator on iOS 16.4 as "show run destination always". - no change
Older iOS version do not show as destinations.
Anyone else encounter this? Did you figure it out?
Help?
Thx
Hello everyone!
When I run UI Tests on Xcode Cloud, I often encounter unexpected failures. Checking the screen recording, I found that the iOS Simulator could go into a black screen with a white Apple logo and a progress bar for a period after the test starts. This behavior of the Simulator causes my app's UI Tests to fail randomly, which greatly affects the practical use of UI Tests.
I suspect this phenomenon is unrelated to my app and test cases, so I'm asking if anyone else has encountered a similar issue. 🤔
xcode 15.2, mac m2 mini, 14.2.1 sonoma
i need a pdf file to stage my app for screen shots for the market. icloud wont sync, cant drag files to the home screen or any screen, it just does not work.
i am at the end of my rope here, i just need some screen shots, my app is approved and ready
am i wrong>? is there a way to do this or is it just broken now in the name of (lazy) security?
edit--the more i read the more i angry and frustrated i get. this is broken and will not be fixed. i need to just workaround via email. so happy my second 100 dollar developer subscription bill is coming up!
I have latest version Xcode-15.1 & Mac-os version Sonoma-14.3.1 - while running particularly UITest target Xcode not launching the simulator, even after build succeed & test's completed without any errors.
I tried cleaning project, re-starting Xcode, restarting system(Mac) - no luck
It would be helpful if I get any suggestion on resolving the issue.
Hey folks,
I have a legacy game that is running OpenGL ES - and it no longer works on the simulators that are running Apple Silicon, ie iPhone 15 Pro, or the 13" iPads. And yes, i'm also running on Apple Silicon (M1 Max).
The apps work fine on the actual devices, but the simulator crashes on any glDrawElements with a stack that looks like the following:
I have not yet seen an announcement about this not working but i've seen mention in other apps of stopping to support GL (https://github.com/maplibre/maplibre-native/issues/2351)
Can anyone shed some light? I'm obviously going to try to fix it, or find a recent sample app from which to start to see what might be up. Or move to metal, but i hadn't bargained for that level of effort atm ;)
Any suggestions appreciated!
I have a problem with my xcode. I try to install apps xcodes to manage multiple xcode. Hello,
My app often crashes when I use simulators. I would like some help with reading the crash report that is generated. Especially with the part below Thread 0 Crashed. Based on other posts I understand that the 0x8BADF00D in the crash report is a WatchDog crash that basically says that WatchDog terminated the app because the main thread was blocked for a significant time. Many processes can block the main thread so it's hard to find out what it is in our specific case. Can someone help me reading through the crash report?
Short_crash_report.txt
Background information
The application is Xamarin Native and I use Rider as an IDE. When I use Visual Studio, the simulators run just fine. No crash occurs while using my app on a device.
The crash happens on multiple simulators with different OS versions. I already deleted XCode cache, erased content and settings of several simulators and deleted iOS DeviceSupport files.
I added gesture support to my app that supports iOS 16 and 17 and have never had issues with it.
However, when I compiled my app with Xcode 16 I immediately noticed a problem with the app when I ran it in the simulator. I couldn't scroll up or down. I figured out it’s because of my gesture support.
My gesture support is pretty simple.
let myDragGesture = DragGesture()
.onChanged { gesture in
self.offset = gesture.translation
}
.onEnded { _ in
if self.offset.width > threshold {
...some logic
} else if self.offset.width < -threshold {
...some other logic
}
logitUI.debug("drag gesture width was \(self.offset.width)")
self.offset = .zero
}
If I pass nil to .gesture instead of myDragGesture then scrolling starts working again.
Here’s some example output when I’m trying to scroll down. These messages do NOT appear when I run my app on an iOS 16/17 simulator with Xcode 15.
drag gesture width was 5.333328
drag gesture width was -15.333344
drag gesture width was -3.000000
drag gesture width was -24.333328
drag gesture width was -30.666656
I opened FB14205678 about this.
I strugge to make the app icon appear in the simulator and on a physical test device. Currently only the placeholder icon is shown. Using Xcode 15.4 and visionOS 1.2
If configured which app icon to use under Targets/[my app]/General:
And in assets theres my visionOS app icon:
Why is the app icon not used? Am I missing something or is this an Xcode bug?
Hi everyone,
I'm trying to find out if there's a way to mock Screen Time for a specific app (either on a real device or in a simulator). Specifically, I need to set the usage time of an app to something like 15 minutes. I'm not looking to alter the total Screen Time, just the usage time for a single app.
Currently, I'm manually keeping the app open for 15 minutes before I can start testing to see if the desired behavior occurs, but this process is slow and frustrating. Unfortunately, I can't reduce the 15-minute threshold, as Apple doesn't allow it for this particular use case.
Any advice or solutions would be greatly appreciated!
Hello,
I'm unable to run any test cases in Xcode 16 with the iOS 18 simulator.
Steps to Reproduce:
Create a new iOS project in Xcode 16 using the default iOS app template with the testing option checked.
Run any test or UI test case by clicking the "Play" icon in the Test navigator.
Xcode gets stuck at the "Testing" state indefinitely.
Environment:
macOS 15 beta 8
Xcode 16 beta 6
iOS 18 beta 7 simulator
Xcode 16 does not display simulators. Problem running on physical device with iOS 18.

When tapping on "password" in the accessory view above the keyboard, no password manger is opened. The keyboard just closes and re-opens.
I have made sure a password exists and is available to be used.
I have replicated this within my own app, but also from within the Settings app on the simulator (see attached gif) so I am confident it is not a coding issue on my side.
I have replicated it on both iOS 17 and iOS 18
I am using Xcode Version 16.0 (16A242d)
I am running macOS Sonoma Version 14.7 (23H124)
I am fairly confident I have not experienced this when working on another clients app. I was using Xcode 15 for that so not sure if this is something introduced with Xcode 16.
