Start from clean iOS 18.4 simulator. Application tried to request authorisation from user for microphone access. Clicking allow caused the application crashed.
Used Swift 6. Report Identifier FB17686864.
As the image access policy has changed with Android targeting SDK 34, I’m planning to update the way our app accesses photos.
We are using the react-native-image-picker library to access images.
On Android, the system no longer prompts the user for image access permissions, but on iOS, permission requests still appear.
Since Android no longer requires explicit permissions, I’ve removed the permission request logic for Android.
In this case, is it also safe to remove the permission request for iOS?
In our app, photo access is only used for changing the user profile picture and attaching images when writing a post on the bulletin board.
Are there any limitations or considerations for this kind of usage?
When testing my development build for gamecenter authentication, the game crashes. I've breadcrumbed it to the "await GKLocalPlayer.Authenticate();" call. Can't find any documentation on this issue and have been looking through the forums!
I've already done all of the usual stuff like verifying bundle identifiers match, ensuring game center is enabled for the app, setting up app store connect, using a sandbox account, etc...
Please point me to some resources if you know any. Any help is appreciated, I'm starting to lose hope here!
If I install RealmSwift into an ios app using SPM, I have no problems.
However if I install it into an ios framework, then when building there is this error:
error: missing required modules: 'Realm.Private', 'Realm', 'Realm.Swift'
I have discovered that if I change the import statement from:
import RealmSwift
to
private import RealmSwift
then doing that makes this build error goes away (but doing that isn't a feasible workaround as I would like to publicly export classes stored in Realm from the framework).
There's no point in posting issues with Realm on their support board as its being deprecated and its tumble weeds on their forum.
But I would be very interested in hearing from the Apple expects explanation or speculation on:
why is importing the same framework via SPM into a framework xcode project resulting in different behavior then when importing it into an app?
why would changing import to private import make the build error go away?
TIA
I'm totally baffled by the changes Apple made on iOS18 about certificates usage in the built-in mail application.
They decided that self-signed are not accepted any more, fine. As long as you can install your own root CA and trust it, it should be fine.
But NO! They have also decided that mail will only accept IMAP servers using a domain name, no more just and IP address. So you can't get any IP-based certificate that will be accepted by the mail app, even with the right SAN and al.
I've tried two "identical" certs, one with a domain and one with an IP and the domain works while the IP fails, being rejected as non-valid by the app. The most funny part is that the IP cert is good enough to configure mail (can see the successful login), but is being rejected when reading emails.
I'm really fed up with the "Apple police" that wants to push us not using our own storage anymore. My se case is simple, I have an IMAP server that is used by family to archive all emails and keep them organized, saved forever and away from being scanned.
I need to access that server either when locally connected or through VPN. For VPN, I use split tunnels because I don't want all traffic to go to tunnel. Nor do I want to create my own local DNS server and have all VPN clients use such DNS server only for the sake of having a domain name for the IMAP server. Nor do I want to open an external port to redirect to my IMAP server (that works of course as then I can use DDNS ...). Talk about increased security!
This is insane
Hello,
I have an app in AppStore "Counter Widget". https://apps.apple.com/app/id1522170621
It allows you to add a widget to your homescreen/lockscreen to count anything.
Everything works fine except for one scenario. iOS 18+
I create 2 or more widgets for one counter. For example, medium and small widgets.
I click on the widget button to increase or decrease the value.
The button in the widget uses Button(intent: AppIntent) to update the value and calls WidgetCenter.shared.reloadAllTimelines() to update the second widget for the same counter.
For iOS 18 in this particular scenario, you don't even have to call the WidgetCenter.shared.reloadAllTimelines(). iOS already knows that there is a widget with the same INIntent settings and will update it itself.
Both widgets are updated and show the new value. Everything is correct.
Now on the homescreen I open the widget configuration for one of the widgets to change the INIntent for the widget. For example, i change the background to wallpaper. This is just a skin for the widget, and the widget is associated with the same counter value as before.
As in (2), I click the widget button to increase or decrease the value.
But now only one widget is updated. iOS ignores my call to WidgetCenter.shared.reloadAllTimelines() and does not update the second widget connected to the same counter.
As I found, iOS, when I call WidgetCenter.shared.reloadAllTimelines() from the widget itself, updates other widgets only if INIntent is absolutely equal for them.
Overriding isEqual for them did not help. That is, I cannot specify which fields from my INIntent can be ignored during such an update and consider that widgets are equal and need to be updated. Obviously iOS make this compare outside my code.
The main problem is that when the user adds a widget to the lock screen and increases and decreases the value there. After that, he opens the home screen and the widget there is not synchronized with the value from the widget on the lock screen.
How to solve this problem?
I am experiencing memory leaks in my iOS app that seem to be related to an issue between UIInputView and _UIInputViewContent. After using the memory graph, I'm seeing that instances of these objects aren't being deallocated properly.
The UIInputViewController whichs holds the inputView is being deallocated properly along with its subviews.I have tried to remove all of UIInputViewController's subviews and their functions but the uiInputView is not being deallocated.
The current setup of my app is a collectionView with multiple cell, each possessing a textfield with holds a UIInputViewController. When i scroll up or down, the views are being reused as expected and the number of UIInputViewController stays consistent with the number of textfields. However the number of inputView keeps increasing referencing solely _UIInputViewContent.

Hello,
We are experiencing slow launch time indicators in our performance monitoring tools(Crashlytics/DataDog/Xcode), and trying to understand what is the best approach to reduce it.
Currently, cold launch takes ~900ms on iPhone 16 Pro , but
~2s on iPhone 11. Profiling app launch detected that most of the time
is spend on loading the libraries. Our app is massive, we use a
total of ~40 3rd parties libraries + 10 internal libraries. We enabled
the "mergeable libraries" XCode new feature however the app
launch is as written above.
We also postponed some of the work in didFinishLaunch, which help a bit...
But maybe we are trying to achieve the impossible?
Could it be that large apps just can't reach the golden 500ms goal?
Currently we are trying to create an "umbrella" library for
all the third parties in order to force them to become part of the
mergeable libraries. We would like to know if, are we on the right
track?
Hi Everybody,
I am actually developing dynamic shortcuts for my app. I have a problem with the class UIApplicationShortcutIcon. When I pass a personalized icon in the parameter icon as a UIApplicationShortcutIcon(templateImageName: "nameOfTheAsset" I always visualize a black dot instead of my Icon.
The icon is imported as .SVG file and rendered as a template. Sincerely I do not know what to do to solve this problem since the documentation is little. Hoping somebody can give some tips to solve the problem
I am encountering an intermittent issue with WKWebView in my iOS app. The problem occurs infrequently, but when it does, the WKWebView consistently displays a white screen and remains in this state until the app is forcefully terminated and relaunched.
To provide more context, here are the key characteristics of the issue:
The white screen problem occurs sporadically and is not easily reproducible.
The WKWebView remains unresponsive despite attempts to interact with it.
Reloading the webpage or navigating to a different URL does not resolve the white screen issue.
The problem persists until the app is terminated and relaunched.
This issue is specific to the WKWebView; other components of the app function correctly.
The WKWebView renders normally, and the main document synchronously loads resources both offline and online without any issues. The bridge and JavaScript execution also work as expected.
However, when interacting with the WKWebView, it becomes unresponsive to user clicks, and the web inspector fails to respond. Additionally, asynchronous network requests also do not receive any response.
The problem occurs exclusively on HTTPS pages, whereas HTTP pages load without any issues. Other components, such as workers, function correctly.
addUserScript injection during WKWebView creation is effective, and evaluateJavaScript during the page loading process works as expected. However, when the document becomes unresponsive, executing evaluateJavaScript only triggers the callback after the WKWebView is destroyed.
I have discovered a reliable method to reproduce the white screen issue in WKWebView. This method involves the following steps and conditions:
Create a WKWebView instance.
Load an HTML page using the loadRequest method(https url request).
Before the WKWebView is attached to the UI (not yet visible to the user), call the evaluateJavaScript function.
This issue has occurred in almost all iOS versions, including the latest iOS 17.x version.
Hi Team,
I'm using the simple mailto functionality in the demo page and when I tested the same via Safari mailto functionality is not working.
However, the same feature is working as expected via Chrome.
Demo: https://jsfiddle.net/xut0ed4y/
Kindly help.me to resolve this issue.
The Apple documentation for [UIViewController willMoveToParentViewController:] states,
Called just before the view controller is added or removed from a container view controller.
Hence, the view controller being popped should appear at the top of the navStack when willMoveToParentViewController: is called.
In iPadOS 16 and 17 the view controller being popped appears at the top of the navStack when willMoveToParentViewController: is called.
In iPadOS 18 the view controller being popped has already been (incorrectly) removed from the navStack. We confirmed this bug using iPadOS 18.2 as well as 18.0.
Our app relies upon the contents of the navStack within willMoveToParentViewController: to track the user's location within a folder hierarchy.
Our app works smoothly on iPadOS 16 and 17. Conversely, our customers running iPadOS 18 have lost client data and corrupted their data folders as a result of this bug! These customers are angry -- not surprisingly, some have asked for refunds and submitted negative app reviews.
Why doesn't willMoveToParentViewController: provide the correct navStack in iPadOS 18.2?
Xcode 16.2 archive fails to compile XIB
Xcode Archive command fails most of the time while compiling an XIB which was created in older Xcode.
XIB was updated in Xcode 16.2 version also which did not fix this issue.
Archive from Xcode app works but Xcode build command fails and no reason shown by the command.

A NavigationStack with a singular enum for .navigationDestination() works fine.
Both NavigationLinks(value:) and directly manipulating the NavigationPath work fine for moving around views. Zero problems.
The issue is when we instead use a NavigationSplitView, I've only dabbled with two-column splits (sidebar and detail) so far.
Now, if the sidebar has its own NavigationStack, everything works nicely on an iPhone, but on an iPad, you can't push views onto the detail from the sidebar. (They're pushed on the sidebar)
You can solve this by keeping a NavigationStack ONLY on the detail. Sidebar links now properly push onto the detail, and the detail can move around views by itself.
However, if you mix NavigationLink(value:) with manually changing NavigationPath, it stops working with no error. If you only use links, you're good, if you only change the NavigationPath you're good. Mixing doesn't work. No error in the console either, the breakpoints hit .navigationDestination and the view is returned, but never piled up. (Further attempts do show the NavigationPath is being changed properly, but views aren't changing)
This problem didn't happen when just staying on NavigationStack without a NavigationSplitView.
Why mix? There's a few reasons to do so. NavigationLinks put the appropriate disclosure indicator (can't replicate its look 100% without it), while NavigationPaths let you trigger navigation without user input (.onChange, etc)
Any insights here? I'd put some code samples but there's a metric ton of options I've tested here.
After updating to iOS 18.4, our web application (with service workers) crashes on devices that accessed it prior to the update. This issue also affects hybrid mobile apps using the same web application; reinstalling the app resolves it by refetching and reinstalling service workers. Debugging is challenging because clearing the cache or reinstalling the app fixes the problem, and no useful error logs are available. Has anyone encountered similar crashes related to service workers after an iOS update and have any insights into the cause?
I want to leave the iOS beta program. Please apple, remove me. Also How can I get removed from the iOS beta software program? I mean leave the iOS Beta Software Program
Hi,
I have few questions regarding the widgets.
I would like to know whether widget and app extensions are same ? This link(https://developer.apple.com/app-extensions/) says widget is type of app extension but I am not quite sure as few link in web says they are different. so need to confirm here :)
Can a widget share same bundle id as the main app ? so basically can we use the same provisioning profile as the main app?
If we use the same bundle id and provisioning profile, will there be any issue during the app store submission process.?
I have multiple web views of the same domain that share the same local storage, as expected.
One of them though, is loading a .webarchive file.
The web archive is of the same domain, and is loaded using the same base URL.
For some reason, in most cases, the local storage is not shared with this web view when loading the web archive, although if I make that same web view load the actual live web page it does share local storage.
I say in most cases, because for some users it works as expected, but for a significant portion of users it isn't sharing local storage.
I think that the main difference between working and not is iOS version. iOS 17 seems to be able to share the local storage but iOS 18 does not. I can't find anything related in the release notes of iOS 18 versions.
There is nothing in the documentation for load(_:mimeType:characterEncodingName:baseURL:), or the header file, that explains anything specific about local storage and webarchive loading.
Does anyone know for sure how local storage is handled when a webarchive is loaded into a web view, and did something change with iOS 18 in regards to this?
