Message Filter Extension won't use Basic Auth
I am trying to set up a message filter extension that will use shared web credentials for basic auth when calling to its ILMessageFilterExtensionNetworkURL. I have associated domains set up for both "messagefilter:" and "webcredentials:" and the message filter IS correctly calling the ILMessageFilterExtensionNetworkURL with each message - so that part is working. As detailed here, I have set up Shared Web Credentials and my view controller is using SecAddSharedWebCredential() to save the creds to the correct domain. Using Authorization services, the creds are auto-filled into my app's login screen. When I go under Settings > Passwords, I see the creds are saved and they are the correct creds to the corrent website that matches ILMessageFilterExtensionNetworkURL. Regardless of all of this, the deferQueryRequestToNetwork() refuses to use the creds and implement Basic Auth in its URL call. It makes the call to the correct URL, it just won't use the Shared Web Creds for basic auth. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

HKObserverQuery not working in background
I'm developing a single target watchOS app that obtains HealthKit information. I have the "Background Delivery" option checked under "Signing & Capabilities" for the watch target. The app does HKObserverQueries in the foreground that work as I would expect. But when I click the Digital Crown to return to clock face, the HKObserverQuery activity stops. I'm using Xcode 15.4, on Mac 14.5 and a Apple Watch Series 4 running 10.5.

The questions are: At least how to detect it to be able to manually reload the sheet (like what Opal does and shows an alert when this happens) How to prevent it in the first place? I really appreciate any help you can provide.

Device Activity Reports are returning a blank screen in release mode
There is an inconsistent issue when views are rendered from the Device Activity Report Extension. This issue is noticeable only on release versions and it works fine in debug mode. Around 80% of the times, the Report Views return blank screen and this is only the case when a weekly/monthly filter is used. Although, it works as expected for daily report views. My questions are: How are all the Report Activity Views working fine in debug mode but not in release mode? How the daily activity filter works fine in the release mode but the weekly/monthly filters don't work? Is this because of a memory limit issue in the extension? As of now, I have the family-controls(distribution) entitlement only for the app and for the extensions I only have family-controls(development) entitlement. Do I need to request for family-controls(Distribution) entitlement even for the extensions? I have seen threads on the forum mentioning the blank screen issue associated with the DeviceActivityReport but haven't found a solution to it. Any suggestions/feedback would be of great help, thanks.

How to prevent duplicate resource bundles from SPM dynamic framework in app extensions?
We use a local swift package in 6 of our app extensions. The product from the local package that we link to each app extension is a dynamic framework. And while the dynamic framework is copied into the final app bundle once, the resource bundles of each target that comprise the dynamic framework is copied into each app extension. I'd much rather have the bundles be copied into the dynamic framework once to prevent app bloat. Here is a visualization of the issue: . └── MyApp.ipa/ ├── MyApp (executable) ├── MyDynamicFramework_TargetA.bundle ├── MyDynamicFramework_TargetB.bundle ├── MyDynamicFramework_TargetC.bundle ├── Frameworks/ │ └── MyDynamicFramework.framework/ │ ├── TargetA │ ├── TargetB │ └── TargetC └── PlugIns/ ├── Widgets.appex/ │ ├── MyDynamicFramework_TargetA.bundle │ ├── MyDynamicFramework_TargetB.bundle │ └── MyDynamicFramework_TargetC.bundle ├── Intents.appex/ │ ├── MyDynamicFramework_TargetA.bundle │ ├── MyDynamicFramework_TargetB.bundle │ └── MyDynamicFramework_TargetC.bundle ├── IntentsUI.appex/ │ ├── MyDynamicFramework_TargetA.bundle │ ├── MyDynamicFramework_TargetB.bundle │ └── MyDynamicFramework_TargetC.bundle ├── NotificationContent.appex/ │ ├── MyDynamicFramework_TargetA.bundle │ ├── MyDynamicFramework_TargetB.bundle │ └── MyDynamicFramework_TargetC.bundle ├── RichPushContent.appex/ │ ├── MyDynamicFramework_TargetA.bundle │ ├── MyDynamicFramework_TargetB.bundle │ └── MyDynamicFramework_TargetC.bundle └── NotificationService.appex/ ├── MyDynamicFramework_TargetA.bundle ├── MyDynamicFramework_TargetB.bundle └── MyDynamicFramework_TargetC.bundle Notice that the resource bundles of Target A, B, and C are copied multiple times causing an unhealthy app size. I'd either like the resource bundles to be copied into MyDynamicFramework or copied once into the app bundle and let the app extensions reference them. Given the SPM + Xcode linking is a black box for the most part, how would I accomplish this?

Widgets and App extensions
Hi, I have few questions regarding the widgets. I would like to know whether widget and app extensions are same ? This link(https://developer.apple.com/app-extensions/) says widget is type of app extension but I am not quite sure as few link in web says they are different. so need to confirm here :) Can a widget share same bundle id as the main app ? so basically can we use the same provisioning profile as the main app? If we use the same bundle id and provisioning profile, will there be any issue during the app store submission process.?

NSItemProvider throwing exception related to secure coding
Our app has a share extension. And we recently noticed something with iOS 17.3.1. From Safari, when we receive the plist and try to load it, we are seeing exceptions for classes not allowed to be unarchived. [itemProvider loadItemForTypeIdentifier:[UTTypePropertyList identifier] options:nil completionHandler:^(NSDictionary *jsDict, NSError *error) { } We see these exceptions: value for key 'NS.keys' was of unexpected class 'NSString' (0x1ee7d2970) [/System/Library/Frameworks/Foundation.framework]. Allowed classes are: {( "'NSDictionary' (0x1ee7cad38) [/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreFoundation.framework]" )} (null) Our preprocessing javascript file is basic, and only passes a title and URL as part of the payload. arguments.completionFunction({ "URL": document.URL "title": document.title, });

Is wallet extension an mandatory implementation for Apple Pay and Add to wallet?
I am working on a banking application (includes iPhone and iPad) which includes add to wallet feature. During the implementation I saw one document it is mentioned that for iPad app, the app must be extended to support Apple pay functionality. Details from document says "Card Issuers with an iOS mobile banking app must support Card Issuer iOS Wallet extension functionality to enable Card issuer mobile app customers to provision new cards directly from the iOS Wallet app with all eligible Apple iOS devices. If the Card Issuer has a dedicated iPad App, that App must be extended to support Apple Pay functionality. " Is wallet extension implementation required for Apple pay to work in iPhone and iPad? Is wallet extension a mandatory implementation for Add to Apple Wallet feature to work and approved by Apple? I am little confused in this. Anyone who integrated Apple pay or done add to Apple Wallet feature recently without wallet extension faced any rejection? Any help would be much appreciated.

Strange behavior and log entries for Mac Catalyst Action
I have a text based action for iPhone and Mac Catalyst I am developing in Xcode 14.3.1 on macOS 13.4.1. I have the container app, an action and an AppGroup defined. I have confirmed that I can read the necessary shared defaults when the action launches. At this point the UI for the action is a simple textview in which I hope to display a modified version of the text passed to the action in the NSExtensionItems. I am not using a simulator. I am running the action directly using Xcode. What is happening is that the ActionViewController viewDidLoad runs but no visible window opens. In the console I see this as the action launches: 2023-07-05 18:27:23.692277-0700 XYZ[4634:279295] [ViewBridge] ViewBridge attempted to look up a hosted window with identifier 8E816BD5-67D3-402D-ADEB-AC59EDFA1F3B, but it was never registered. 2023-07-05 18:27:23.692408-0700 XYZ[4634:279295] [WindowHosting] UIScene property of UINSSceneViewController was accessed before it was set. .... The last line above is repeated 12 times.... Any helpful ideas would be deeply appreciated! Steve

Catalyst & Audio Units: getting plugin dimensions right
I'm experimenting with getting my AUv3 plugins working correctly on iOS and MacOS using Catalyst. I'm having trouble getting the plugin windows to look right in Logic Pro X on MacOS. My plugin is designed to look right in Garageband's minimal 'letterbox' layout (1024x335, or ~1:3 aspect ratio) I have implemented supportedViewConfigurations to help the host choose the best display dimensions On iOS this works, although Logic Pro iPad doesn't seem to call supportedViewConfigurations at all, only Garageband does. On MacOS, Logic Pro does call supportedViewConfigurations but only provides oversized screen sizes, making the plugins look awkward. I can also remove the supportedViewConfigurations method on MacOS, but this introduces other issues: I guess my question boils down to this: how do I tell Logic Pro X on MacOS what the optimal window size of my plugin is, using Mac Catalyst?

ShieldConfigurationExtension not working
I created a ShieldConfigurationExtension in Xcode 14.3 with File > New > Target > ShieldConfigurationExtension. This created the extension with all the necessary Info.plist values (correct NSExtensionPrincipalClass, etc.), with the extension included in embedded content in the host app target. No matter what I try, the extension is not getting invoked when I shield applications from my host app. The custom UI does not show as the shield, and looking at the debugger, an extension process is never invoked. I am shielding categories like this: let managedSettings = ManagedSettingsStore() ... managedSettings.shield.applicationCategories = .all() And my extension code overrides all the ShieldConfigurationDataSource functions. class ShieldConfigurationExtension: ShieldConfigurationDataSource { override func configuration(shielding application: Application) -> ShieldConfiguration { return ShieldConfiguration( backgroundBlurStyle: UIBlurEffect.Style.systemThickMaterial, backgroundColor: UIColor.white, icon: UIImage(systemName: "stopwatch"), title: ShieldConfiguration.Label(text: "You are in a Present Session", color: .yellow) ) } override func configuration(shielding application: Application, in category: ActivityCategory) -> ShieldConfiguration { return ShieldConfiguration( backgroundBlurStyle: UIBlurEffect.Style.systemThickMaterial, backgroundColor: UIColor.white, icon: UIImage(systemName: "stopwatch"), title: ShieldConfiguration.Label(text: "You are in a Present Session", color: .yellow) ) } override func configuration(shielding webDomain: WebDomain) -> ShieldConfiguration { return ShieldConfiguration( backgroundBlurStyle: UIBlurEffect.Style.systemThickMaterial, backgroundColor: UIColor.white, icon: UIImage(systemName: "stopwatch"), title: ShieldConfiguration.Label(text: "You are in a Present Session", color: .yellow) ) } override func configuration(shielding webDomain: WebDomain, in category: ActivityCategory) -> ShieldConfiguration { return ShieldConfiguration( backgroundBlurStyle: UIBlurEffect.Style.systemThickMaterial, backgroundColor: UIColor.white, icon: UIImage(systemName: "stopwatch"), title: ShieldConfiguration.Label(text: "You are in a Present Session", color: .yellow) ) } } What am I missing?

Notification Service Extension for macOS
Are “Notification Service Extensions” officially supported on macOS? I’m developing an app for both iOS and macOS (not Catalyst). I’ve successfully setup a separate notification service extension for both the iOS and macOS targets. The iOS extension is modifying the CKSubscription push notification as expected. However the macOS notification service extension is not being launched at all no matter what I seem to try, matching deployment targets etc. I’m also asking because although Apple docs report that support for UNNotificationServiceExtension was added in macOS 10.14, the article at https://developer.apple.com/documentation/usernotifications/modifying_content_in_newly_delivered_notifications makes no mention of macOS, only iOS.

Adoption of New MV3 Standards for Browser Extensions
As with the adoption of MV3 standards among all major browser vendors that allow browser extensions at the client-side, I understand that this is the same with Safari as well, as mentioned here (https://www.wwdcnotes.com/notes/wwdc22/10099/). However, as with Firefox, browsers may choose to adopt them incompletely and with few changes. I had a few questions regarding how Safari views this transition and what would be the next steps from here. Thus, it would be really great if the browser team could provide your insights on any or all of the following points: Would Safari adopt the exact standards proposed by the Chromium ecosystem such as with functionalities like header-based modifications in the coming days.  What would be the general timeline be for this in general?  Does this also translate to the fact that existing standards with MV2 standards would not be allowed to operate any further, as with the timeline with Chromium? Regards

OSLogStore can't access an app's extensions?
I've got an iOS app with lots of extensions, some of them complex and doing a lot of stuff. After a bug I'd like to be able to use OSLogStore to get a holistic picture of logging for the app and its extensions and send that to a debugging server to retrospectively view logs for the app and its extensions. The constructor is OSLogStore.init(scope: OSLogStore.Scope), however scope only has one value .currentProcessIdentifier. Implying if that is called from within the app it can only get access to logging for its process only. I tried it out to confirm this is the case - if I log something in an extension (using Logger), then run the app with code like this:  let logStore = try! OSLogStore(scope: .currentProcessIdentifier)  let oneHourAgo = logStore.position(date: Date().addingTimeInterval(-3600)) let allEntries = try! logStore.getEntries(at: oneHourAgo)       for entry in allEntries { look at the content of the entry Then none of the entries are from the extension. Is there anyway from within the app I can access logging made within an extension?

Open Share Extension
Hello, everyone! Help me please to find answer. I have two applications: App-1 with share extension and App-2 without it. From the second app I can open share extension via UIActivityViewController. But I need this extension in the second application to open immediately by pressing a button, and not through UIActivityViewController. Can I do this?

Safari Web Extension tab ids are 0 during webNavigation callbacks until onCompleted event
Safari Version 14.0.1 (16610.2.11.51.8) I am porting a Chrome/Firefox/Edge extension to Safari Web Extension. Mostly, the process was painless, I am, however, seeing quite different behavior in the tab ids generated by Safari compared to Chrome, Firefox, and Edge. My extension has callbacks for each of these browser.webNavigation events: browser.webNavigation.onBeforeNavigate browser.webNavigation.onCommitted browser.webNavigation.onDOMContentLoaded In each of these I rely on the tab id for various future tab targeting operations. When opening a new tab, the details object passed to each of these callbacks has a non-zero tabId on Chrome, Firefox, and Edge. However, in Safari, the tabId is always zero. To debug, I added one more callback: browser.webNavigation.onCompleted At this point Safari finally has a non-zero tabId in the details param. Needless to say this is causing some consternation with achieving the same outcomes as tab tracking on Chrome, Firefox, and Edge. It's like Safari is treating new tabs as "non tabs" until navigation completes. You can even see it when trying to get the tab by tabId=0: browser.tabs.get(tabId) // tabId=0 here .then(tab => { // tab is undefined }); Seems like this might be a bug. I can't imagine why the behavior is so different from other browsers. Any ideas on how to work around?
