Manage purchase options for an auto-renewable subscription

Note: Multiseat purchases will be available for Business and Education organizations, and for App Store customers later this year. Multiseat purchases are turned on by default for all auto-renewable subscriptions. Subscriptions created prior to September 14, 2026 that do not use StoreKit 2 or that have Family Sharing turned on are set to opted out by default. If you don't want to allow multiseat purchasing for your subscription, edit your purchase options in App Store Connect to avoid any impact to customers.

Multiseat purchases allow a customer to buy a subscription in quantities greater than 1. This customer, known as the group purchaser, manages the shared subscription and controls who has access, making it possible for a team, classroom, or organization to share access under a single purchase. On the App Store, customers can purchase subscriptions individually or as a group. In Apple Business and Apple School Manager, only multiseat purchases are supported. Use the Purchase Options section on a subscription's detail page to control whether multiseat purchasing is available for your subscription and which stores can sell it.

Managing purchase options is not available for subscriptions in custom apps. Subscriptions for custom apps will automatically be available on Apple Business, and Apple School Manager and you may not opt out of multiseat purchases.

Default settings for existing subscriptions: Subscriptions are set to opted out by default if the app doesn't use StoreKit 2 or has Family Sharing turned on. If you want to offer multiseat purchases, you can turn them on at any time in App Store Connect.

Required role: Account Holder, Admin, or App Manager. View role permissions.

Manage purchase options

Availability and multiseat purchasing are configured together in the Purchase Options section in App Store Connect.

  1. In Apps, select the app you want to view.

  2. In the sidebar, click Subscriptions.

  3. Under Monetization, click Subscriptions.

  4. Click the subscription you want to edit.

  5. In the Purchase Options section, click Edit.

  6. Under "Can a customer purchase multiple seats for this subscription?", select an option:

    • Yes, allow multiseat purchases. A customer can buy multiple seats. Required for selling multiseat subscriptions in Apple Business and Apple School Manager.

    • No, don't allow multiseat purchases. A customer can buy only one seat for this subscription.

Note: If you disable multiseat purchases for an approved subscription, you'll need to click Confirm before the change is saved. If you disallow multiseat purchases, new customers can't buy multiple seats and this subscription is removed from Apple Business and Apple School Manager, which support multiseat purchases only. Existing customers' subscriptions continue to renew until the group purchaser cancels, New seats cannot be added, but can be removed by the group purchaser.

  7. Under "Where can a customer purchase this subscription?", select from the following options:

    • The App Store. This subscription can be purchased as an individual or group purchase on the App Store. After this subscription has been approved, you may not remove App Store availability.

    • Apple Business. This subscription can only be purchased as a volume purchase in Apple Business.

    • Apple School Manager. This subscription can only be purchased as a volume purchase in Apple School Manager.

Note: After this subscription has been approved, you can change it so that it's no longer purchased through Apple Business and/or Apple School Manager. Existing subscribers won't renew automatically and will be canceled at the end of their next renewal. To remove Apple Business, and/or Apple School Manager from an approved subscription, you must be the Account Holder.

If Family Sharing is already turned on for this subscription, you'll need to confirm that you understand that only the group purchaser will be able to share with family members when both multiseat purchases and Family Sharing are turned on. All other seats will be for individual use only

  8. Click Save. Before you save, consider the impact on existing subscribers. As described above, changes to availability or multiseat settings may affect customers' ability to renew or purchase additional seats. Only Apple Business and Apple School Manager require multiseat to be set as allowed. The App Store supports both single and multiseat.

Note: If you've enabled multiseat purchases for a subscription, only the group purchaser's access will include Family Sharing. Once you turn on Family Sharing, you won't be able to turn it off.
